    16:00 Seeing how powerless Ardyn is when compared to Bahamut was both devastating for him and the viewer/player. This moment comes right after he razed a city, slaughtered the royal guard, disabled the defenses existed for decades, defeated the sacred guardians, and defeated two kings. This is a beautiful moment in my opinion because we as the player began to relate with Ardyn, to believe in his cause because he had been wronged, and maybe even had a little bit of fun. Bahamut intervenes at our moment of triumph, right as Ardyn is going to take his revenge, shattering any illusion that we had free will. This whole story gives a new perspective on the life of a once mysterious villain that we may have all hated without knowing about his motivations. He was betrayed by the gods that he revered so much, was nearly cut down by his brother and lost the love of his life, and then he was called a monster and imprisoned on a remote island--all evidence of his existence being erased from history.

    • @JPX7NGD
      @JPX7NGD 5 лет назад +8

      The only thing ardyn loved is himself, and acted accordingly (and was punished deservedly).
      ardyn had free will, he could have not been so narcissistic that he tried to destroy everything. he could have not become corrupt through his ugly ambition.
      The devil thought he was powerful before he was destroyed by St Michael too. As you could probably (and unfortunately) attest to, evil does not understand its place and proportion and so it lies to itself and lashes out in tantrum at its own impotence. Had ardyn or the devil had humility, they would not have been impotent as it was their pride that made them impotent.

      @@JPX7NGD You do realize Ardyn cured people of the starscourge, took it into his body, and did it all because the god's told him to. Then in the end he is betrayed by his brother, locked away for two thousand years and you try to compare a man betrayed by selfish gods to the devil? Ardyn was far from the prideful, arrogant, and greedy being that the devil is. He is in fact a tragic character, who in the end let his anger and desire for revenge consume him.

    The whole storyline is a twisted joke. The gods had a war among themselves which ruined the landscape and led to star-scourge being unleashed into Eos, they decided to gift divine powers to humans to stop it instead but that makes no sense. If they could just give someone the power to stop it then they could cut out the middle man and do it themselves. Instead of doing their job and taking out the darkness themselves they decide to use humans as farm , they give a bit of power to the Lucis family and each child born inherited that power, the crystal was made to absorb the power each king had when they died.
    Ardyn was indeed special, he was chosen from the start to be the one who absorbs all the darkness and contains it in one spot to prevent it from ruining the world whilst the crystal charges its battery, once it was nearly full Ardyn got busted out and then gets ordered by the Bahamut himself to spread the darkness that Somnus was ordered to be sealed away.
    All this is too convenient. Ardyn is released just before the chosen king is to be born, his release gave the empire the edge in the world which pushed Lucis to the brink of collapse, if he wasn't introduced Noctis would have lived in peace and probably would have won the war with the empire and would not be committed to killing Ardyn as he would not have done the shit that made him hate him.
    By Ardyn being released and learning of his fate, Bahamut knew full well Ardyn would go on a mental breakdown and not just spread the scourge but ruin Noctis's life and torment him which gave him the will and desire to complete the pact and sacrifice himself. He then makes it out to Noctis that he must do this otherwise the scourge will never disappear.
    In the end the Ardyn and the Lucis line all die with the scourge and Bahamut didn't have to get his hands dirty, as a bonus Ifrit the god who rebelled ended up dying as well. The remaining humans will likely blame the empire for what happened and praise Noctis and the gods for ending the blight and start civilization back up with the gods being worshiped again and make magitek taboo, the very things that allowed the empires to challenge the gods will be gone for good.
    The only one who got a happy ever after in this whole thing was Bahamut.

While his line would eventually give birth to Noctis, who is the true King of light. [Dawn of the Future] dlc would have given us the "true ending"
    Ardyn is too powerful to be beaten in the last fight of the standard edition of the game.
    Bahamut decrees noctis has failed his destiny and the only way to make things right is to destroy the world and rid the universe of demons.
    The rest of the astrals/gods team up with noctis to fight bahamut's physical body, while Ardyn finally ascends to the throne and completes the ritual of kings that would have killed noctis in the original ending.
    Everyone works together and Ardyn dies to take out Bahamut. Riding the world of the crystal, but also demons in the process (Ardyn was cursed with being the source)
    In the end, everyone got to choose their own destiny instead of just playing by Bahamut's script.

      @Aoenias 5 лет назад +6

      FF12 is a continuation of FFT where the gods created a messed up world and made 12 scions to mend it and 12 scions to support it. The first 12 were cast down and imprisoned when they fulfilled their duties of absorbing and containing the flaws or otherwise fixing and cleaning the world in some way, some fought back but were still defeated soundly. The second 12 were left as pillars of its principles except Ultima who thought it was really effed up what they did to the first 12 and went and freed them to wage war on the gods, though it was futile in the end (also Zodiark didn't go he liked his job). Ardyn is like the scion CuChulainn, a scion of purity and beauty tasked with absorbing all the world's impurity into himself. Upon finding the world more corrupt than the gods ever imagined and eating all he could, the gods found him revolting and cast him down.

      @@NapalmJustice Think of the devil and the demons.
      They know what they did is wrong.
      They regret it more than you could imagine.
      If given the opportunity to do things differently, they would still do what they did and they have not even the slightest capacity for Good.
      Why? They are dead and so their will is set. They are unforgivable because they knew exactly what was going to happen before they did it, and so they are unable to change no matter what. The are only allowed to exist because they are merely being used as pawns so that humans do not forget that evil exists or forget how ugly evil is.
      What was the horrid thing that the demons did? They committed suicide because they felt spirits were the greatest form of life and refused to admit otherwise when that was refuted. When humanity was announced, the devil was furious that God would dare "insult" the Rational Soul by merging it with a body. What really set the devil off was that God's human Person would be born by a fully human woman and that all would bow before her as Queen. The devil hated all material life, and especially women because of sex and childbirth, and the idea of a Person of the Trinity passing through a vagina repulsed everything about his spirit-supremacist ideology. Then the idea of subordinating himself to a human, a human woman nonetheless, was so repulsive that the devil committed "suicide by cop" upon hearing of God's Plan.
      The devil falsely called himself as "the Bearer of Light" because he thought he would be the one to bring God's final Person of the Trinity into creation. The real Bearer of Light is a woman, a human woman with a material body and a womb for children. The devil really wasn't special at all.
      you, as a human, have no such impediment and your will is totally free. This is because your fallen nature is due to an ignorant mistake, and therefore (while at fault) you are salvageable. No matter how evil you are, you can always change. It won't be easy, and you will have to pay for your evil first, but you can change.
      The demons want petty revenge against humanity because they think you are less than they are and they think you deserve their fate instead; God disagreed. God is in control, and on your side. God is not on the side of those who chose the nothingness of hell over Him.
      As for the game, Noctis did not have to take his mantle. Noctis could have been like the other 113 kings.
      What was different is that seeing the absolute suffering caused by ardyn's pride, Noctis was willing to accept into himself the humility needed to destroy evil itself.
      somnus could have destroyed ardyn if he had the courage to take on that humility within the first generation and it would have ended before it started. Instead it took thousands of years before someone with the courage to actually fight back against the disease itself instead of just the symptoms was born.
      I really hate the stories in final fantasy games, but the ending of ffxv was the first time I actually respected a game as that ending seemed to have its head screwed on the right way for the first time.

One last thing, just make matters worse Somnus justified his ambition by fullfiling his calling and protecting his people, and after defeating him and before killing Regis, dear Bahamut stops him stating the "fate that shall it be" as some plan that lead to this moment.
    EDIT: THIS COMENT WAS FROM THE OPTION WHICH HE SUBMITS.
    EDIT2: I don't know if it is Aera's true positioning or just Baha's doing to manipulate Ardyn. However, now is confirmed: Bahamut is the true overlord @$$hole.

Well, maybe you can care about them as sympathetic victims merely playing their parts, but who wants to play that? Ironically I bet it all seemed really artistic and full of deep meaning about the futility of man, blah, blah, blah at the design and writing stage... but all it does is make me not want to play the game at all.

But it's strange how all the power of the mortals COMES from the Astrals but they refuse to do anything about it themselves and just do this roundabout BS of empowering the mortals to be their sacrifices. Just like the Occuria from FFXII, which are a retelling of the gods from FFT and how they made the scions into pariah to hide the fact they made the world wrong which is why Ultima rebelled after seeing how they treated her dark counterparts.

  • @Luxai
    @Luxai 4 года назад +10

    Okay, let's set some things straight...
    First of all, in their frenzy to implicit the astrals, everyone seems to be forgetting about the starscourge, the horrible disease that turns people into monsters.
    Wether or not Ardyn's life as an immortal carrier of the scourge is related to him being betrayed by his brother Somnus is not quite clear, but what we do know is that if the world was going to be saved, Ardyn had to go. To achieve this, a plan was deviced to destroy the crystal when Ardyn had been "killed" in the mortal realm to eradicate his soul. That was the only way to truly kill him.
    To achieve this, the chosen king had to give his life. The crystal is linked to the Lucis line, so only with their death can the crystal be destroyed. This much we can establish from the game itself.
    Now, let's keep some things in mind about Ardyn. First of all, he's murdered a looooot of people and made the world worse than it has ever been, and he would have done so without the word of the gods. Because he wanted revenge. The idea of losing everything to fates cruel hand is not unique to Ardyn, this sadly happens to people. But how many goes on murder crusades?
    With this line of reasoning we can rule out any notion that Ardyn was undeserving of his end or that he "did nothing wrong". Now that we have established his evilness, let's move onto Bahamut.
    The astrals made Eos, but they had no way of removing the starscourge. They tried with an orcale, but it was simply not enough due to how fast it spread. So, to permanently end the problem, they deviced a plan that meant more suffering for Ardyn, and the death of the Lucis line. In the end, it worked, and Ardyn even got got his revenge.
    Now, some may say "there must have been a better way". Okay, how? What else could they have done? Unless they could have destroyed the crystal themselves, which it doesn't seem like they can. Even then, what happened the last time an astral tried to kill Ardyn? That astral got infected with the starscourge. It's a risk they really can't afford. What if Bahamut himself became corrupted? Also bear in mind, they are gods who made the world. It stands to reason they have considered every option already.
    So, to cleanse the world, this was the plan, and it worked. Also, the crystal and the oracle are gone, so there is no more way for mortals to commune with the gods, effectivelt ending their influence.
    The world moves on without the thrall of gods or scourge at the price of the Lucis line. One that in the end was worth the sacrifice.

    His fate both imprisoned him and freed him to make the only choice that mattered. And he chose to reinforce his fate with his blackened heart. Noctis likewise had his fate sealed. But he chose to embrace gratitude for the life given to him by others.

      @GhostlyOutcast God has reached out to us since the fall.
      If you are looking for a "god" made in your ugly image, you will not find one.
      As Venerable Fulton Sheen said:
      "If we leave the Cross out of the Life of Christ, we have nothing left, and certainly not Christianity. For the Cross is related to our sins. Christ was our “stand in” on the stage of life. He took our guilt as if He were guilty and thus paid the debt that sin deserved, namely, death. This made possible our resurrection to a “new life” in Him. Christ, therefore, is not just a teacher or a peasant revolutionist, but our Savior. Our modern world does not like the word “sin.”
      What is forgotten is that sin is not the worst thing in the world. The worst thing is the denial of sin. If I am blind and deny there is any such thing as light, I shall never see. If I am deaf and deny sound, I shall never hear. And if I deny there is sin, I make forgiveness impossible . I believe that the whole political and religious situation of the world can be summed up in terms of the divorce of Christ and His Cross. Put the Cross-less Christ on the right side, and the Christ-less Cross on the left. Who picks up the Crossless Christ? Our decadent Western civilization. Christ is weak, effeminate, with no authority to drive buyers and sellers out of temples, and never speaks of self-discipline, restraint and mortification.
      Who picks up the Christless Cross? Russia and China, where there is a dedication to a common ideology, the use of discipline and authority to keep peace and order. But neither can heal. The, Crossless Christ leaves men burdened with their guilt which festers in a thousand psychosis and neuroses. The Christless Cross cannot save for it ends in Dachau, the Gulag Archipelago and the squeezing of the lives of millions like grapes to make the collective wine of the State.
      Which will first find Christ with the Cross? The totalitarian states who have the Cross without Love, or the Western world which has “love” so often erotic-without sacrifice? We do not know. But we do know that at the end of time, when the great battle between the forces of good and evil takes place, satan will appear without the Cross, as the Great Philanthropist and Social Reformer to become the final temptation of all mankind."
      That anti-christ seems to be what you want.
      Also, what is this generic term "religion" meaning here?

    • @JPX7NGD
      @JPX7NGD 5 лет назад

      @GhostlyOutcast God has already shown Himself. you insist that He hasn't.
      From experience that means you are desperate to find your own reflection in God. By ugly I mean sinful, because you seem to be the type to only accept a "god" that strangely resembles your worst qualities you are clearly ashamed of.
      your hurt reaction here tells me I was right. To the point you are even threatening to kill me.
      Careful, reprobate, digging graves for others only leads to you falling in.
      Ironically, there is no greater way to defeat evil than by Martyrdom. The moment we seem defeated, we are more alive and powerful than you could imagine. The ending of ffxv actually shows that, which is ironic that you are sneering at it in a video about ffxv.
      The Church created all you take for granted. As Chesterton said, everyone who sought to destroy the Church only succeeded in destroying themselves and all civilization. If you insist on going down this path, then we will rebuild the world you destroyed with your ego-tantrum just as we always have.
      Now, to correct you. Faith is the highest form of thought and foundation for all other thought. Logic is the lowest form of thought as it relies on the senses. Reason, pure intellect, is the broadest form of thought and is totally blind without Faith.
      Like Chesterton also said:
      "The man who cannot believe his senses, and the man who cannot believe anything else, are both insane, but their insanity is proved not by any error in their argument, but by the manifest mistake of their whole lives. They have both locked themselves up in two boxes, painted inside with the sun and stars; they are both unable to get out, the one into the health and happiness of heaven, the other even into the health and happiness of the earth. Their position is quite reasonable; nay, in a sense it is infinitely reasonable, just as a threepenny bit is infinitely circular. But there is such a thing as a mean infinity, a base and slavish eternity. It is amusing to notice that many of the moderns, whether sceptics or mystics, have taken as their sign a certain eastern symbol, which is the very symbol of this ultimate nullity. When they wish to represent eternity, they represent it by a serpent with his tail in his mouth. There is a startling sarcasm in the image of that very unsatisfactory meal. The eternity of the material fatalists, the eternity of the eastern pessimists, the eternity of the supercilious theosophists and higher scientists of to-day is, indeed, very well presented by a serpent eating his tail, a degraded animal who destroys even himself."

    • @JPX7NGD
      @JPX7NGD 5 лет назад

      @GhostlyOutcast Christ is God Himself. A separate self-consciousness of God that has the same essence as God.
      Actually, misuse of free will is what caused the fall. Adam refused to be healed of his corruption because he consumed a quarantined memory of the devil's suicide and therefore mistakenly believed that God had betrayed him.
      Christ is the New Adam. Christ was Crucified to pay the debt of Adam, and the site of the Crucifixion was Golgotha. Golgotha (literally "the skull") was the burial place of Adam after he died.
      The moment Christ succumbed to his wounds, there was an earthquake. The earth cracked open and a skull (Adam's skull) was spit out of the grave.
      The three days Christ spent in sheol was to find and free Adam from his prison to bring Adam back to Heaven.
      This Venerable Fulton Sheen quote reminds me of you:
      "Many of us live as if God doesn’t exist or we keep Him locked away in a closet, opening the door only when we need something from Him. We shut Him out of our thoughts. We exclude Him from our plans. We ignore His voice in our consciences. We assume that, because we are “nice people” He will not keep us from entering Heaven when our time on Earth has ended.
      In a sense, that last sentence is correct - He will not keep us out of Heaven. The truth is that we will keep ourselves out of Heaven - and He, out of perfect love, will allow us to make that decision. He loves us enough to allow us to exercise our own free will.
      hell will be our own decision, not His, and we will rehearse making that decision during our time in this life. We are creatures of habit. We practice making our eternal decision right here, right now. We need to change our habits, God does not move away from us and is always here for us. It is we who move away from Him."

Tabata saying that there's no other way (until Episode Ignis kicked that out of the window) to every truly destroy Adryn feels more like him posing as the Astrals trying to make people believe fate could never be changed no matter what (considering that directors are kinda like "gods" of the works they've created alongside the team helping to produce said work). I wonder how pissed the deities must feel when they've seen their plans for humanity's punishment get derailed by a particular specs-wearing dagger wielder (in Episode Ignis alternate ending that is)

      You don't have to have a quarter of the gameplay be filled with tragedy in order to build character development and a good story. There are plenty of games that had some tragic moments in them, but didn't focus so heavily on that aspect to be great. Final Fantasy 7 probably had the best amount of tragedy with Aeris(Aerith)'s death. It was sad and helped push motivation to take down Sephiroth. But we didn't have to sit through the second half of the game seeing the entire team mourning the loss. Hajime Tabata focused too much on tragedy to deepen the story.

    So... was Bahamut the big bad or evil dictator all along? With Ardyn his sacrificial jester? I sort of wish there was an option or chance to actually fight Bahamut here. Feels like it would've been an excellent showdown to put down the King of Gods or the Dragon King. I honestly forgot what Bahamut's role is in FFXV
