    Happy thanksgiving, I am gratefull to you for teaching me how to crochet, when I started as young as 10years old my mother she taught me how to crochet doilies, I am 53 now and had to relearn it again so I can make my family and friends some crocheted things. Ie.. Hats, scarfs,ear warmers, gloves, lots of things, I owe it all to you & all the RUclips videos. So I wanted to say thank you, I am grateful to you ,thanks and please don't stop, I love how you teach & speak, it is easy to follow you. I am disabled now so I don't have much money, to buy everyone gifts, you have allowed me to make everyone something, for Christmas & birthday gifts. This thanksgiving I am so thankful to you cause I have the opportunity to crochet with love for my loved ones. You made this possible for me . I hope you can feel my gratitude in my words. Thanks my friend.....

      Aww, thank you for such a nice comment. I am sure they will love them.
      Personally speaking, I would pick a handmade gift over a store bought any day. The love, thought and care that's put into a handmade gift is priceless.

    I don't know if this helps but this is the pattern as I heard it. Feel free to amend it if it feels wrong. I just typed while she was talking
    5 mm
    Magic circle and chain 3 or
    Chain 6
    Remember your chain 3 row counts as the first chain
    1st row: chain 3, 12 DC, join slip stitch on 3rd chain
    2nd row increasing: chain 3, in each stitch do 2 DC, repeat to end, switch yarn
    3rd row increasing: chain 3, every 2nd chain DC, all other 1 DC repeat to end
    4th row increasing: chain 3, every 3rd chain DC, all other 1 DC, repeat, change yarn
    5th row increasing: chain 3, every 4th chain 2 DC, all other 1 DC, repeat to end, slip stitch in 3rd chain
    6th row increasing: chain 3, every 5th chain 2 DC, all other 1 DC, repeat to end, change yarn
    7th row increasing: chain 3, every 6th chain 2 DC, all other 1 DC, repeat to end
    8th-16th row: chain 3, 1 DC in each chain (change color every two rotations)
    17th row: chain 1, HDC in every chain
    18th row decrease: chain 1, HDC for 9 chains, decrease in chain 10& 11, repeat to end
    19th row: chain 1, HDC in every chain
    20th row decrease: chain 1, HDC for 9 chains, decrease in chain 8&9, repeat to end
    21st row: chain 1, HDC in every chain, slip stich and chain one
    weave ends

      Thanks Brianna I wish I would have seen this before I finished ,but I did something wrong ,I left out every 4thchain DC and went right to 5 that's why I ended up with 84 stitches . lol but i it still very nice

    I don't know what on earth I did wrong...but my hat is ginormous! You could fit a basketball in it! I crocheted right along with you, paused where I needed to....like when you'd say, "continue doing a double crochet in every stitch around." Then I'd stop the pause to continue crocheting with you....but from the start, your hat looked much smaller than mine. I wish you had written instructions so I could follow along with the pattern...now I have to tear this all out and start all over again...or just tear it out and forget it. :(

      Sandy Drinkwater You're so right. I'm making this hat now and it's huge as well. Using RH with Love, 5.0mm H hook. I'm on row 18 now, 9 HDC's, then decrease in the next two chains & repeat...I'm coming up with extra stitches at the end of the round. There should be a count of 84 in rounds 8-17 correct?

      Oh my, I’ve been crocheting for many years and cannot figure out why this hat is turning out so huge. By reading some other comments it’s obviously my error but for the life of me I’m not seeing it. A disappointment for sure because it is a very pretty hat.

      I left a comment on how I worked mine. You could go down a needle size and see if that works. It was the best pattern I found it was easy and worked up fairly quick. I needed it for a guy in his 20's that lost his hair to chemo. I was really grateful to have found it.

    I got to row 11 and thought it was looking more like a pillow than a hat bc it was so big. I unraveled back far enough to omit the last row of increase and it is now looking so much better. Thanks for the video, it's been very helpful.

    • @ThePatternFamily

      If you want more slouch than just crochet 2-3 extra rows.

I used a wool, #4 medium bulk and an H hook. I worked all afternoon to complete and so bummed I cannot wear. Any suggestions? I wondered if hand sewing elastic thread in the bottom inch would work.

    Hello, so I was told by a friend that to make a hat fit right you do as many increases as you need till the work is half the size in inches of your head. .I was wondering if I should do this for my hat? My head is about 21 inches so should I do more increases untill it is half of that and then do the regular double crochet?

      It seems that you are using a crochet hook and yarn in smaller size. I have used red heart super saver yarn for this video.
      If you are using thinner yarn then you should make more than 12 DC in the first row.

      I am using red heart ( i think lol ) but it is worsted weight 4, and I am using a 5.5 mm hook, and I am crocheting loose, and it is working out great, not tight at all.

    Hi i know this video is a old but i started making the top of the first 6 rows of a hat then started decided that i want it to be slouchy. Will the hat still come out slouchy if i do the expansions from row 7 all the way to the end of the hat?

      If you want a slouchy hat result you should follow the instructions in the video.

    hello how many grams of yarn did you consume for this beanie?

  • @69bird71
    @69bird71 3 года назад

    I had to go back on a couple times and found i had miscounted. I did reduce by two stitches at each side of where the row meets (or the back of the hat) total four sets of two decreases over the last two rows of double crochet. I tend to crochet tighter stitches so I tried it on as I got near the end.

      Diane you can pause the Video to help slow it down. Just tap on Video, pause until done with each section, press screen to restart and should help.

    You should tell how many stitches in each round, as you are crocheting you are going in rounds not rows. Saying rows may confuse beginners thanks

    This was a great video. I was able to figure out the end of row stitches which was wonderful, my hat feels a little too big for my head and my head measures at 22... so I may add a few more decrease stitches in the rows or just put in a drawstring for now. But overall this was a great video, real easy to follow, thanks.

    How do you decrease on round 18. It was a little fast.

    • @ThePatternFamily
      @ThePatternFamily  10 лет назад +1

      For row 18:
      In the next 9 chains make one hdc - decrease chains 10-11.

    what are the measurements of this hat when completed?

    • @ThePatternFamily
      @ThePatternFamily  7 лет назад

      They should be somewhere within the video, if not than it was probably made during the time when I didn't measure them. All I know for sure is that it is in the adult size.

    I found myself starting over and over! I wish that there was a written pattern to follow and that black was not used for the beginning as it's hard to see the stitches especially where to join the rows, something I have always struggled with. Also, the explanation during the process was not very clear as well. I've given up on this one and will find a better video with clearer instructions.

    I'm sorry to bother you again, but due my lack of practice I've not being able to do the calculation about how many more stitches I do have to do in order to get the right width in the widest part of the hot, so then I can do the decreases. What happens is that the yarn I got doesn't have the same ply counts or weight, mine is thiner, which I did have to accept as the had I'm doing is for may Goddaughter and she wanted in a specific color which was not available in thicker yarn. I'm sure I have to have more room, but, I repeat, don't know how to calculate. I don't want that after finish the hat it wont fit. If you give me any clue I'll be very gratefull. Thanks a lot :) :)

    • @ThePatternFamily
      @ThePatternFamily  9 лет назад

      You will have to increase for few more rows since you are using thinner yarn.
      I don't remember the ''width, in inches, that came out after doing the last row with increases''.
      I will try to include that info when I make my future hats.

      ThePatterfamily Thank you so much. That's what I thought but wanted to be a little more sure, but I'm going to increase two more rows and will try to calculate looking again at the video. TKU!
