Your expertise with the dogs' eye surgery served to remind me why I would not be a vet no more than I'd be a mechanical watch repair person: Hands are not steady enough. Thank you for an enlightening video.
I recommend an eyelid speculum and a corneal shield with erythromycin ointment on the backside for future surgeries. Will help you to pass those initial sutures and also prevent corneal drying and possible corneal decompensation during surgery.
You can do that but it puts more clutter in the field ( shields don't like to stay in place ) and there's a simpler way. Have your assistant place a few cc's of normal NaCl in the SX site at 1 to 2 minute intervals. If flushes the field and obviates the need for tools in the eye. This is an extraordinarily easy SX. No need to make a big deal out of it.
I massaged the eye according to some other videos here and it popped back in with no problem. Thank goodness no surgery needed. We’ll see if it stays in.
I wouldn't say it's so expensive. It is, for being a surgical procedure, but it's not like a dog could easy or "Just" lose an eye because of it. Not if you take the right decisions in time.
Is this a mandatory surgery, my little dog about 3 years old has a verrrry small red thing that only sometimes shows (usually when she is stressed) I went to the vet and asked about it they told me it doesn’t need to be done now but may be fatal later on and I’m and super worried about it. Of course I’d pay anything to help my dog but is this just a quick money grab?
My dog had tiny small tumor on his upper eyelid since he’s almost 9 needs blood work before surgery and heart test it’s costing me from 369.00 to 402.00 for one eye ! I am Charging it and pay it off over time! His eye just keeps having a discharge watery and develops to many eye buggers! It’s not getting any smaller ! It’s just keep getting bigger! He’s my buddy my friend! It has to go!
I am not good enough @ English. Can someone explain warning about this surgery, any other precautions before doing surgery. My little dog has a cherry eye in both side of the eyes. And make surgery appointment next week. But Im afraid if the surgery affected its eyesight.
Dr greg I adopted a puggle from my local shelter with cherry eye and the vets there said fixing it was more for cosmetics and I sought a second opinion at his vet and they said the same...should I see another vet about it? I definitely don't want him in pain, but his vets advised me not to get the surgery.
Kaitlyn Zumchak it depends on the severity of it some cherry Eye can cause pain and discomfort however minor cherry eyes are often just annoying to look at it ultimately comes down to what the specialist thinks I would take your dog to a veterinary ophthalmologist and have them make the decision
I don't feel it's just cosmetic at all, that's a delicate eye structure just sitting on the outside waiting for trauma to damage it. I also think it's a gland that produces tears, so if it gets damaged or is non-functional the dog can develop dry eye in that eye at some point. You'd want to protect it by putting it back in the proper place via surgery.
I hate when my dog is ill because I'm extremely worried. When she had a cherry eye I didnt know what to do. And then I found the article dogsaholic.com/care/cherry-eye-in-dogs.html which is written by professional vets. Thank you very much for such useful information.
My small dog had Cherry Eye surgery a few days ago and I had a couple questions. *Does this surgery affect my dogs eyesight?* My vet told me to apply Vetropolycin at least once a day. However, my dog's super hyper and wont let me, so I take him daily to my vet to apply it. The vet was closed today however, and I missed an application. Will this cause issues?
They just did this surgery on my puppy a few hours ago, I was concerned too but apparently it is very common in small breed dogs. I have a 11 weeks old shih tzu, he was just fine when I came home from work and a couple of hours laters this happen. I would suggest you if this happens to your dog take him to a vet as soon as you can, it's not an emergency and they dont see it as one but if you take him right away maybe the surgery can be avoided.
A friend of mine has a dog with cherry eye and they have successfully done the surgery costing only around 1500 Indian rupees. (just 22 dollars approx). Not so costly here in Mizoram, one of the States in India)
This dude hit the dogs eye with the knife and didn’t have steady hand I would never trust this dude even tho he knows what he’s talking about but doesn’t mean he does it good and if I seen him pushing on my dogs eye the way he was when holding it by the neck I would be so pissed dislike for me my dude I feel sorry for The poor dog🥺

Kaitlyn Zumchak ...he explained it as an eye sore...or not great to look at. So it doesn't sound necessary. Thanks for rescuing!!!!

❤️
My dog has cherry eye, but it doesn't bother her and we don't want to risk the surgery not going well🖤
Leaving it out can cause dry eye, as it produces a large portion of the tears for the eye - current DVM here...
My dog maybe have puppy’s :3
