"Year Zero" refers to Walpurgisnacht, April 30 1966 when Anton Lavey, founder of the CHURCH OF SATAN, declared that day to be the beginning of the first year of the church, "Year Zero", each following year is then called "Ano Satanas" (After Satan). Our current calendar is based off the birth of Christ, meaning this year, 2014, is 2014 years after the birth of Christ. Since Satanists do not believe in Christ they decided to mark a new calender on their chosen date. So this is now year 48 Ano Satanas. I know it sounds ridiculous, but the Christian church basically did the exact same thing choosing a date that is actually based on a pagan holiday of the "Winter Solstice", the church wanted to abolish paganism but could not stop people from celebrating on these particular holidays, so they simply re-named them and stole them. So when you celebrate Christmas you are actually celebrating the Pagan holiday of the Winter Solstice, the beginning of winter. The other lyrics of this song refer to Lucifer being an Archangel, and how the man is nothing more than lice on the face of the Earth. This simply means that we should not think we are special or that we are going anywhere special. We are just parasites on this large planet. If you are interested in this type of philosophy and mythology, read some of Anton Lavey's books including the Satanic Bible, it is not a book on how to worship Satan but how to see the world free of religion and how to free your mind.
Shawry Shaw correct, its seen mostly in comparrison to the death and resurection of the "son-sun" i think. its been a few years but If i remember correctly the sun sits at that point for 3 days, then starts to head back, and christ was resurected in 3 days. This is just off memory, srry if i got anything mixed up.
@issecret1 Me too. I'm Zoomer, but I love Ghost sooo much... Btw, I'm Christian, and I see nothing wrong with that! I saw many of Ghost's fans who was elderly aged, and I think, age and generation do not matter at all.
This band is so interesting, they look and musically sound like they are going to be heavy and then the singer sings and (it’s very good) it’s super soft and throws you off.
I'm Roman Catholic and I decided to investigate everything about this band as soon as I became aware of them. When I read they were NOT real satanists and that their love for horror films and other classic rock bands like Black Sabbath and KISS were some of their influences and when I also read their lyrics are tongue in cheek I gave them a chance. I do not regret it. So all those who fear them or are scared of them or their lyrics don't be it is performance art. They are a very talented band and their style is original and very refreshing. I don't say this lightly. I am extremely picky of the groups I hear. Songs like Year Zero, Monstrance Clock, Elizabeth are extremely original and well crafted. Ask yourselves when was the last time you heard a Doors or Pink Floyd like organ passage on a song? When was the last time you seen a band as tight as this one on stage?
John Lopez they are pretty tight, you are right about that. but for some reason i feel sort of like it's all a joke because they remind me of KISS so much. not the music but the obvious.
John Lopez On the swedish wikipedia it actually says that they are not statnist but they worship the devil, it says something like they were sent from satan to make music and collect souls for him.
If you believe that God is a supreme being that created the damn universe and everything in it, then why the fuck would he care what some guys do on a stage? And if he did, he could just strike them down in a second which he has been known to do. So if God doesn't give a fuck then neither do you.

Images, tones, even genre aside, you can never diss this band's live performances. They're fucking tight as hell (pun intended) and put on a fantastic show in masks and robes, and the lead singer in a big pope hat, droopy robes, and probably at least half an hour of make upping. As a bassist, singer, and general music lover, that's dope to sound so good live with all that. Most people just practice in what's comfy, like shorts or a T-shirt, a jacket that's easy to take off, or sun glasses. These dudes take a to a whole new level and that's to be respected.
I miss these ghouls. They had more of an ominous presence and fit the music very well. The new ones tend to try and draw attention to themselves. They still kick ass none the less.

Anyway, instead of comparing bands you just could try to take out the best from all of them and enjoy it. :) Peace! \m/
