- The California Senate has passed SB 961, which would require “passive speed limiters” to be installed in all new cars manufactured or sold in the Golden State by 2032. The motion, introduced by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), would make California the first state in the nation to enact the safety requirement, which is similar to a law in the European Union that is set to take effect in July. (May 22, 2024)

People, stop voting for these clowns. Please. It seems the safer cars get, the more the government wants to restrict you. 50 years ago a car going 70 was a hazard because they weren’t built for it. Now cars can handle 100 without any threat of breaking down. The limiting factors today are traffic, the poor roadways, and inexperienced drivers. The cars are the least concern with speed.

Two things come to mind; 1) buy your car out of state, 1) dissconnet the horn wires. Many scenarios require higher than 10mph to "safely" pass. When this causes an accident law suits will fly. Rumor has it that originally they wanted to be able to connect a message system from your car to the DMV, then after violations to the stopping of cars or maintenance be able to shut your carr off completely. They scratched that when attorneys told them the lawsuits would be enormous if a car stopped in the middle of the road and caused a death. California State Legislation is allergic to commen sense.

Stupid and dangerous law. If you honk your horn when you pass another car it could cause road rage. People have been followed home and even shot for honking their horn at another person.
It's not about honking at other drivers. The beep would be inside your car, like the beep/chime you get as an alert for driving without your seatbelt fastened, or when your key is in the ignition with the driver's door open.

This violates CA vehicle code especially since City max in CA is 55, which means that even on streets with a 45mph posted, if you are traveling at 55 which is still legal the cars they are suggesting/forcing into production will provide false gestapo alerts. Additionally, CA law enforcement do not know the laws or the constitution as is now and this will create more corruption and problems with the Kommifornia Police state.
This is bad cause in other states you can have the governor removed. California could do nothing about it. So if I went to Texas cause cars are cheaper and bought one and than registered it in California California could not stop it. It's the truth that's a wast of time and tax payers money.
The question for the court is can a state require tracking devices on vehicles and is that a violation of law for a private citizen they can't seize your phone without a warrant so why should they be able to put a tracking device on your vehicle without a warrant they need that device to tell the different areas where the speeds are different which means they have to install a device to keep track of where you are is that is where you I they some legal liability I don't think the courts are going to let that fly State or Federal we will see and if the courts don't stop him I think the people will by voting them completely out of office

Since speed limits very state to state, cars will have to be specially modified for California sales and that means higher prices pushed to Californians. Also, how will the car know what the speed limit even is on every single road in the state? However that is achieved will also cost the consumer. This is another push to try and force us in the state of CA to use public transportation instead of owning a car.
It's a simple computer map.
I have the Waze app on my phone...it's navigation software and also includes traffic info AND speed limits. There is a Speed Alert that can be turned off or on. I keep mine off because I use cruise control, but it's handy for people who tend to lose track of how fast they are going. Most of us have driven cars that go a lot faster than we realize they're going. The speed alert is helpful for that.
Better than getting a speeding ticket...."I'm sorry officer! I didn't realize that I was going so fast!!"😄
