This is a GREAT series!! So hard to find series like this tho. You just stumble on to them by chance. Again, fantastic useful content. 👌
Thank you for the comment! I'm glad people are finding it useful.
I'm not a merc guy at all...but those 25s are solid. Just be sure to keep putting fresh non ethanol gas in that thing. Good job on the troubleshooting too. Cool video.
Thanks! It's an awesome motor. I was glad it was something so simple too.
I have a merc 2.5 racing motor that thing will get up go ive never had any problems with it besides replacing 30 year old fuel lines but I also have a few small mercs they run really good but they have there problems, no what I will never buy again is a Chrysler motor those are absolutely junk, mercs and Johnson’s are the most reliable in my opinion but everyone can have an opinion
@@brycepeters6163 those 2.5s were awesome...most of the 90s and early 2000s mercs were solid. I have just never been a fan of Merc, in my experience as a tech for over 20 years, their reliability just isn't there. When they're running right, they're excellent...otherwise, they're eh. I'll stick to Yamaha.
What a joy to ride, wish I could get speed in like that but I only got a 5hp 😅
Looks like a strong motor. Those mercury 2 strokes haul butt.
You're not joking, I only got to maybe 1/3 throttle? My setup is way too bare to go any faster. I can't wait to see what it tops out at.
@@mvboutdoors I've got the 25 efi 4 stroke and on my 16ft Lowe it does 32 with just me and every now and then I can hit 33 but I have tried several props to get there and that's with my boat running light and with the right prop yours will do that too I'd say mercs are strong I love em.
Running a 25hp tohatsu pushing my Duracraft 38mph. But it's had some work done to it. Cheers Boys
I think this size boat with the open floor and a 25hp tiller hand is an excellent set up and that I want for my family.
It really is a sweet a spot, we enjoyed the hell the out of it.
Well this was an experience.. I didn't even have a trolling motor on the boat. Live and learn!
How deep are the sides on that? Those are awesome old boats!
Where did your anti ventilation plate end up lining up? Is it flush with the bottom of the boat
It ended up being a little above flush because it was set back with the riser.
Is this the boat in a box kit build?
No there were no kits used for this build
What brand Jon boat
That was a Landau boat
Hey u adapted btw where did you test boat at ?
Caesars Creek
@@mvboutdoors though so
Did you ever get a top speed ?
Unfortunately I didn't, my setup was pretty sketch at the time of testing I want comfortable pushing it. When I did start getting comfortable the motor went out!.
umm....that's the choke lever....doesn't squirt any gas....chokes off airflow (butterfly valve) to the carb and enriches the air/fuel mix.
The ONLY thing that squirts gas is the bulb on your fuel line coming out of your gas tank.
I thought that at first too but on this engine that knob is pull to prime and idle adjust, it is not a choke lever. You pull it a few times to get gas in the carb but it retracts after pulling. To "choke" this motor, you rotate the knob to open/close the carb. (It says "Pull to Prime" on the front of the knob).
@@mvboutdoors I'll be damned...learned something new...the knob actually rotates to adjust idle.
@@mvboutdoors I'm a little embarrassed to say it.... I bought a Jon boat in 2012 and completely modified it into a fishing machine....and I had that exact motor....abused the heck out of it fishing and duck hunting until ice up every year busting ice.....and I just sold it last year when I bought a new Jon boat.....and I never knew that was a primer....the motor was bullet proof... in 10 years it never failed to start or get me to where I needed to get to. It was a 1996 motor. Enjoy it.
@@KevinsNorthernExposure it's amazing how reliable it is, I've started it a few times this winter in some very cold weather and fires right up. They really hit the mark on that one!
I need to sell my 4 stroke n get a pull cord
I’ll buy that from you lol
Haha I love it
Full of shizzz. 2 stroke 3ins easily by the way... I'm still running a 1984 2 stroke today in rhe ocean hawaii!
