    NOTE:
    There’s been some question on whether this motor is a 6V or 12V motor. The RF-500TB-12560 motor has an operating range of 1.5VDC to 12VDC. The nominal voltage is rated at 6VDC, but this motor will operate between the 1.5 -12VDC range. The Amazon listing is showing the nominal voltage rating of 6VDC.
    Here is the datasheet for this motor you can download.

    In this video I will show you how to fix your Neato vacuum cleaner if it has a 'My Vision was Blocked - 3000' error. You can check the LIDAR unit under the top cover to see if it's spinning. If it's not spinning, then the motor driving the LIDAR has failed. I will show you step by step on how to get to the motor and replace it.

    One of the most comprehensive DIY videos that I have seen. I was actually starting to shop around for a new robo vacuum when my Neato stopped working. Seeing that my Neato was around 10 years old and the batteries were getting close to needing replacement, I didn't want to invest too much more time and money into it. I found this video and although it seemed a little daunting at first with the number of screws and components that need to come out, it really wasn't bad at all. There was a little plastic fatigue on two screw-holes but there are so many connection points that it still holds together very solidly. It took about 20 minutes to take it apart, two days to receive the part and about 40 minutes to re-assemble it. Put it back in the charger and after a top-up, it was back in business. So, after about $10 in capital, a little over an hour of time and that pesky 2 weeks of procrastination, my Neato is back in service! Thanks!

    Extremely clear video, thank you! For those also suffering from the "my vision is blocked" problem, here is my experience after bringing the machine out of a two-year exile in the closet. I could see the lidar spinning so thought that was not likely the problem. So I decided to disassemble just to see if there was anything I could clean before sending it off for repair. I can't say for sure what did it, but the process of dis- and re-assembling (a few times) seems to have fixed it, for now. The only things I remember changing were (1) the belt that drives the lidar seemed a little stuck when I first played with it, so I reseated it in the groove, (2) the pulley that moves the belt was a little low on the shaft and might have been rubbing as it rotated with the motor shaft, so I lifted it slightly, and (3) the back rollers that the machine rests on when moving were immobilized by hair. Here are some definite caveats: (1) do not overtighten the screws that hold the motor to the lidar--the hole in the motor stripped and I had to use some glue when seating the screw, (2) in the XV-11 and -12, it is quite difficult to reconnect the ribbon cable just before reassembling the top onto the bottom. There is a little black piece on the connector that needs to be lifted ever so slightly to allow the cable to slip into place, and then the black piece put back down into place, and this has to be done with the top cover close to its final position on the bottom of the machine. It's tricky and took several tries of reassembling and disassembling the whole thing. (3) Be sure to test before reassembling the top to the bottom that the bumper clickers are positioned correctly by pushing on the bumper in all four locations where the clickers are located. I had to re-/disassemble once for that problem. Just cleaned the house and the error has not come up again!

    Thanks a lot for the detailed video! It helped me for my XV signature.
    In my case, once I got to the motor, I first tested it with a 5v adapter, the motor seemed to spin correctly, tested a few times spinning it forward and backwards. Then we tried to pull the belt off and it was stuck! We cleaned it, added some new white grease on it and reassembled the Neato. It's cleaning the house happily after that, no parts replacement needed yet. I'm buying one of those motors next time I travel to USA just in case :)

    Incredible video! Well presented, accurate, and fully understandable. I just completed the installation of a new LIDAR motor, apparently returning my Neato to fully operational status. You must have worked for Neato at one point to know all of this, or you're just a genius. My thanks for your video!

    Thanks for a very clear description of the repair. One thing I found was that you need to be careful not to over-torque the screws when putting them back. Two heads broke off very easily and one stripped the thread on the plastic in which it was inserted. Gently does it!

If you're going to undertake this repair, you'll need to buy a small motor, and you'll need a soldering kit. The motor is cheap and soldering isn't hard (my first time!). Thanks for a great video.

    Excellent video. Clear and concise, pointing out all the "gotcha's" you might run into.
    I use blue tape to keep all the screws in place on the different plates that come off like that small screw on the trim plate. Makes putting things back together a no brainer.
    One small point, when removing the motor screws they have a tendency to roll toward the lidar.
    I also wonder if the fact that the motor is running backwards tends to make the brushes fail? The brushes seem to favor rotation in one direction.
    My client's burned up exactly like yours. Early diagnosis was that the lidar wasn't spinning.
    Also I turn the screws like this backwards until I feel it drop in the thread. Keeps them from stripping out. I'm especially careful with these coarse ones that thread into plastic!

    Excellent, clear, precise video! It will save you from having to send it back to Neato, which I know from experience is a "Black Hole". You can plan on not seeing it again for months, and, when you get it back, it may be missing parts, like the charger! When these run, they work well, but both versions of Neatos I own are plagued by problems. The latest is the vision issue on my XV-15. With the amazing amount of disassembly required, this video is a huge help! BTW, I replaced the standard NIMH batteries with LIONs and have had no more battery issues for several years. Now, if you could just come up with a fix for the "Please turn my switch on" error, when the switch IS on for my 2yo Roomba. That said, stick with a Roomba; I've had one for 12 years, it runs like a top, and is only on it's 3rd NIMH battery(replaced 6 months ago). No "Battery Reset" routine ever needed.

    Excellent guide! Here are a couple of tips to consider. The assembly screws are made of very soft metal and it's easy to strip the heads or even break them off. For a few bucks you can get stainless steel #4 x 3/4" sheet metal screws that are perfect replacements at Home Depot. The reason I needed some screws was I had to remove the top a few times because the bumper switches did not align with the top easily. As an aid, I put 1/4"x1/4" pieces of double sided tape on the back of the flippers at the point where they touch the spring. This held them perfectly aligned for easy top installation. Finally, the 3 pin connector for the lidar to the motherboard tends to pull off the motherboard rather than separating the plug from the socket. Put a mark on the board and the socket for correct reassembly alignment before you remove it.

    • @tombartlett2519
      @tombartlett2519 8 месяцев назад

      2 pins on the battery connector go to a battery temp sensor. Apparently the pins can be pushed back so they are no longer making contact. There is a video on RUclips about this. Unplug each battery and check the pins on the connectors. If one or more is shorter than the others, consult the video for a simple fix using a glue gun.

    My neato xv-11 says RPS ERROR. The lidar turret is not spinning. Will this motor replacement part fix it?

  • @helliko
    @helliko 6 лет назад

    Sometimes it's just stuck but the motor is fine. I just put the eraser side of a lead pencil through the lidar slot to manually rotate the lidar and that usually gets it going.

      e k It could be that the brushes are dirty (coated with black residue), and you giving it a kickstart is just enough for the brush contacts to make the shaft of the motor spin again. Cheers.

    Thank you for sharing this very good video. My XV-21 recently got frozen when power on. It needs to remove the battery and switch back then it can work OK. It happens very often. Have you had similar problem with your machine ? I appreciate if I can get your comments. Thank you.

    The link Amazon does not have the same model number on thr motor. I'm about to put mine back together again. I hope it will work.
    BTW where can I buy screws for the neato. Mine was sent in for repair before and it was tuff to get the screws out.

    • @buckza
      @buckza 5 лет назад

      I suspect because the moter model is not the same that mine now does run around in circles and climb up door frames. It started to give me a left wheel stuck error and I swapped wheel motors around. No more wheel error but still running in a weird way. I ordered a other motor from Amazon and I'll post that link of that solved the problem.

    They actually changed The new motor system for the D7. That was their way of preventing this problem but it actually is made it worse. They used to fail usually in 2 to 3 years but now can fail in as little as 3 to 4 months. This on a $700 vacuum And per Nido it was due to a bad batch of motor supplied. When it works it works great when it doesn’t it fails spectacularly.

      Neatos are poorly engineered, and their "repair service" is a nightmare. I sent one in for repair and it took 4 months and a VERY reluctant intervention from Neato to get it back. The new batteries I had replaced at the suggestion of customer service as a"fix" were dead as rocks from the battery switch being left on for 4 months. They tried to charge me 3 times for the repair. When it finally was returned, they sent it back with the wrong charger. Neato finally sent me new batteries and the correct charger, but the docking issue returned in a few weeks. I finally took a leap of faith and replaced them with Lithium Ion batteries, and the problem was solved.

      I was getting the same message, I came across this video. Ny neato has been in service for 45 months working everyday.
      I'm kind of leery of putting any other money into it as something else might break.
      I did try this and of course I'm only 15 minutes into the cleaning I did but the error message has not come back and it sounds and is working perfectly.
      I took isopropyl alcohol and q-tips and cleaned underneath where the laser eye is and I also clean down into the spinning groove. It was my hope that after 3.5 years it was some kind of dust and dirt buildup. Not sure if this is a fix but so far so good fingers crossed.

    I did the repair, when putting it back together the belt broke. I got a new one and installed it. Had some issues with the bumpers being stuck but finally got it back together and it is still throwing the 3000 error message. I can see the Lidar spinning. Is there anything else to check. I also did a soft and hard reboot.

  • @sgcutrera

    I follow all this procedure, and I find out that the problem was not the motor, it was the belt which was tied enough. Somebody know the specifications of this little belt for the motor and/or where I can buy this belt? Thank you very much!

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  5 лет назад

      The RF-500TB-12560 motor has an operating range of 1.5VDC to 12VDC. The nominal voltage is rated at 6VDC, but this motor will operate between the 1.5 -12VDC range. The Amazon listing is showing the nominal voltage rating.

    So I did this repair. The vacuum runs now error free, but now it just cleans a perfect 4ft circle and then thinks it finished and returns to base.... The batteries are new and great... And before this error the vacuum would clean the entire house perfectly. I wonder what I messed up to make this thing clean a precise circle and then think it's finished.... I followed these terrific directions and everything went back together very nicely... I'm stumped... Advice?

      J&S Adventures! I'm also having this issue. Could a bumper be stuck?

    • @JSAdventures
      @JSAdventures 6 лет назад

      dabler37 don't think so. Functions perfectly, minus the fact that it acts like it's stuck in spot clean mode. If it encounters and obsitcle, it bumps and continues.

    • @JSAdventures
      @JSAdventures 6 лет назад

      It's perfectly capable of a straight line. It comes straight off the base, creates the 4' circle, and then makes perfectly straight rows within that circle. At which point it does a happy little "I'm finished cleaning the house" chime, and returns to base.
