RUclips seems to want more of the same stuff with every one a whiney clone of each other and this crushes helpful people who still RUclips in the spirit it was created.
Thank you for this video, as many others have posted, by following your instruction my house is again being robotically vacuumed, and definitely earned some brownie points with the wife for getting it back in action for a fraction of the price of replacement.
Thank you very much for a bright and clear and detailed breakdown of the repair. It worked magic. Just remember when you replace with a rf 500tb 12560 motor to reverse polarity. Black wire (-) goes to red dotted lead.
Thanks for this - mine's a different model of Neato and everything's in different places but the principles are the same and your video helped me resurrect it.
Thank you! I followed the video step by step & fixed my neato XV pro, I had a some minor issues: 1. slight problem when putting the new motor into place - the lidar did not rotate freely, had to remove the cover of the lidar and re-adjust the rotating band. 2. when removing the lidar communication cable from the board - the connector base was removed (like you commented in the video) & I had to go to another video to make sure I install it back the correct way. 3. putting back the cover is a pain! your comments regarding the various screws was very helpful, Now after assembly it seems to work!
That's great! Sorry I didn't have a close up of that connector. The system board should have had silk screening indicating pin 1. You can probably look at other connectors for orientation at that point. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Thanks for the video Mario! I did just as you did, bought the motor off eBay ($21) and went through the process as you described... It's now working great again! Appreciate your time!
Thanks for the helpful video. I hope that I can help by adding few points on how to replace the LIDAR motor: 1. The LIDAR is rotating counter clockwise. 2. The RED wire (in Neato two wires to motor) should be connected to the - (negative) of a clockwise rotating DC motor 3. I tested the rotation direction of the motor before replacing (and soldering the wires) and mark it
Thanks for posting it. Sadly, even though I know I took out every screw (looked at other images as well), it just won't come apart. Fan, wheels, batteries all out. It's an Xv-21 and seems to be stuck near the bumper. I can get it open about 1/4" at the other end. I've fixed many a car and appliance, laptops, etc. and I can't get this apart. It was helpful to see how it nearly fell apart for you indicating to me that there's something amiss.
Sometimes it helps to take a step back and take a break and get back at it. I know whenever I swear I have every screw loose, I've missed one. :) Thanks for watching!
Must say you saved me money and aggravation! Thanks for your video! The biggest obstacle was those bumpers it took me a while to figure out they want back in place 😞 overall changing that Lidar motor and putting everything back in place was not bad at all...thanks again!
Thanks! I appreciate this for the tear down/rebuild, especially the "watch for this and that" aspects. I have mine torn apart to troubleshoot. It is a tactile switch on the control panel, possibly also the motor on the lidar (get that error a lot). Cannot find that tact switch to replace it (4.8 mm, four prong) so I think I will have to by a new control panel. Still cheaper than a new Neato; just a lot of hassle.
There are sources out there for these things. There is a site called robot something, can't remember exactly, but they have some of these parts. I will look around. You are not talking about the round power-up, sounds like the the function button. I don't recall mine having tactile feedback like the power button, will have to check.
Mario, the control panel behind the start, back, up, etc. buttons has five tiny tactile PCB switches the one for the start button failed. You are welcome to aid the search! Thank you.
This fixed my problem. My motor was completely dead. I took the old one apart, and it is a complete piece of junk. The so-called brushes are just metal fingers that wore through, broke, and shorted out. There is no carbon block on the end of them, so they wear out quickly. They used a brushless motor for the vacuum portion, and they should have done the same here.
Thanx for taking all the time and patience necessary to edit and produce this helpful Video - also in pointing out the "gotchas " on the reassembly process. We followed the Video precisely and replaced the LiDar Motor. The Error 3000 Vision Blocked Error went away and the unit worked fine ---- for a couple weeks ( 4 vacuum cycles ) . Then the Vision Blocked Error 3000 came back, intermittently at first, but then immediately every time I tried to restart the unit. Any suggestions on where to go from here in troubleshooting the recurring issue #3000 ? I bought another LiDar Motor, to have as replacement again if needed but would like to try and find the root cause of this problem before installing it. I also went even further in disassembling and checking the internals of the LiDar Module itself. The Bearing spun freely and wasn't dirty at all. I cleaned the Drive "Belt" ( O-ring ) and cleaned the Pulley Groove as well. Any other suggestions are appreciated. We really like our Robot Vac ( "Rosy" ) ... when she works. david -
I've seen that recently too. Replacing with another motor or even swapping out the entire LIDAR unit with a known good one did not fix the issue. If you already have another motor and the time, swap it out. There is also a utility out there that allows you to test the unit from the USB port. Other than that, I don't know what else you can try. Sorry.
I wonder if the laser shouldn't emit light even if the motor is dead? Mine doesn't. I just want to check this to make sure that it's not an even deeper problem than the motor. My Neato was running only like one and a half year (replacement unit). Thanks for sharing this Mario!
The laser won't turn on till the motor is measured to be up to speed - I think that's for compliance with the regs but not sure. Anyway, a static laser won't help the robot navigate, it requires the full 360 view for planning. (My favorite way to 'see' it is to use a camera, they can usually see the infrared. A good one can see the dots projected on the wall ;) )
Mine's not coming up with the error because the display's packed in as well, but the motor operation is exactly the same as seen here (tries a few times then shuts down). I'll be using these instructions to figure out how to crack it open.
What do you mean the display's packed in as well? Do you mean not working? There is a video out there about replacing the capacitors in the system board to fix that issue. I bought caps for one of mine, but have yet to file and replace.
There are several caps that need to be changed. Just buy good quality caps. I got a 10 pack of Panasonic's on eBay for a few bucks. It does appear to be a bit of work to complete the entire job.
Motor changed along with capacitor C10 (the old one had 140 ohm ESR and half its rated capacitance, the new one's either 0.6 or 0.06 ohm, I can't remember). Display still blank but I can live with that as I can change the time over USB. At least it's back up and running. Oh, and NO LEFTOVER SCREWS :D
thanks for the video. this video is what gave me the confidence and assurance that if I took my unit apart I would be able to put it back together. I have taken a few apart recently and my issue was with my motherboard instead of the lidar motor. I have another unit that gives me the, "please put in dirt bin" error. Do you know how to fix this? I changed out the dust bin sensor inside with a working good sensor, but that didn't fix it. I checked around online and people say I needed a new motherboard if the sensor replacement didn't fix it. Do you know why I need a new motherboard? Any other way around it?
The Dust bin should be able to push the button down I think. Have you checked to make sure the dust bin is in fact pushing it down? Maybe try pushing the button down manually? Let us know what you find. Thanks for watching!
yea i tried just pressing it down. didn't work. i ran the neato control software and it shows that the dust bin isn't closed. I really think there is an issue with the motherboard not picking up on the dust bin sensor pressed down.
I originally had my vision is blocked error and the lidar motor was dead. Your instructions got that working again -- thanks! But now I'm getting the Please clear my path error when there's nothing there and brush not stuck or anything. Could this be from my fix? Any suggestions?
My guess would be during assembly a sensor may have became unplugged or loose from it's resting place. I had that issue the very first time I had disassembled and reassembled mine. Take the top back off, make sure all bumpers are set correctly and all sensors are sitting in place properly. Also, make sure sensor windows (tinted plastic) are free of debris and dust.
Not at a PC, but I talk specifically about the bumper hinge pivot inserts not sitting correctly. If you have never taken it apart before, it's either that or the micro switches.
Also, make sure the unit is flat and level. If the cover doesn't go on easily and perfectly, stop, readjust the bumpers and do it again. You need patience for that part.
Hi, my LIDAR unit is still spinning as far as I can see but I get the same error either immediately or after some time. Did the unit still spin in your case or was it dead completely? Would you recommend me replacing the motor even if I can still see it spinning (until I get the error my vision is blocked)? Thx in advance for your opinion.
Here is one link below, there are several places though. Be aware most of these motors that I am aware of must be wired backwards. Red Wire to negative on motor, Black wire to + on motor. www.robotshop.com/en/neato-xv-rps-motor.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwxtPYBRD6ARIsAKs1XJ7ZHOf9d-YTk819v2bnuWkgN7vUPdNJ6ZRwtnrjTKBB9Ju0TVoEVZoaAqm-EALw_wcB Thanks for watching!
I took my motor apart n cleaned the armature and re set the brushes. Works great now. On my second Neato I can get the display to light up. ??? Any suggestions. Battery voltage is at 7.2/ 7.0. And light is dim green when on the charger.
From what I know, the capacitors on the system board need to be replaced. Many people replace them with higher values. Just be sure to buy high quality capacitors. I bought a set of eBay, but have yet to replace them on any units.
Hi Mario,I have a neat botvac.same error 3000.i got a new lidar motor.but the botvac has the wire attached to the lidar motor. How to change with a new one. Thanks
You will most likely have to unsolder it if there is no connector. also, some of these motors have to be wired reverse polarity to work. Usually the person you buy from would mention this in the description if it needs to happen. Having never seen the bot back, I can't be too sure about the procedure.
eBay. There is also a guy who sells parts where I found a video on RUclips. If I find the link, I'll repost. Just know that the motor won't fix everyone's problem, I got lucky. I chose to go the motor route because I didn't want to pay $200 for a LIDAR assembly. Thanks for watching and commenting!
+Mario Monti I should also add that I got lucky. I was willing to lose $15 and time for a chance that it would work. Just go into this assuming the same.
Well It's seems that is not a quality machine. I have last week to do buy a "Connected" type. Is this the same bad thing? The same construction? How old is yours on the video here? I have not receive mine. But when is a horrible thing I buy a Roombla.
The link is somewhere below, but here is one of them: www.amazon.com/RF-500TB-12560-DC1-5-12V-2700RPM-Speed-Diameter/dp/B00QBZ1SX6 Read the comments as I believe you need to wire the motor backwards.
So, mine was spinning too, just not as fast as it should. When you say they won't cover the robot, what do you mean? The motor is cheap poor quality, so it is doomed to fail at some point.
So I should have watched this video before I ordered the motor... It's not wired. (don't know whether getting one wired in The Netherlands is an option at all). Anybody make a video on how to wire the motor? I suppose I can just use the old wires off the broken motor?
My neato botvac D7 the latest £800 version just threw up this error 7 months into its life. Luckily I purchased from amazon who are sending me a new one. Designed to fail? not at £800 it shouldn't!
The LIDAR motor, in my opinion, is the weakest link. Followed by the LIDAR itself, and batteries. I'd rather have to replace $40-50 batteries, than either of the LIDAR components.
@@m3rdpwr Thanks. I will subscribe to you from 5 channels as shown in this video :) ruclips.net/video/ujfoe11bLWc/видео.html You may find some people to sub to in the comments section. If you like :)
eBay probably. Most sell without wire and you have to be sure they are wired backwards. One below with wires is pricey, but if you don't have a soldering iron, it may be the way to go. www.ebay.com/itm/Neato-XV-Lidar-Motor-error-3000-My-Vision-BlocKed-Power-Lead-Plug/182669339427?hash=item2a87f0eb23:g:7D4AAOSwYmZXGfV7
Google translate doesn't convert this message to well. Are you saying it does not detect the trash bin? Push down on it a little harder. There is a micro switch that detects when the trash bin is in place.
put mine back together several times and have been having a problem. The robot does not seem to map the room. It's now just randomly going around and bumping into furniture. The lenses are not blocked and the belt is not stuck. Any guesses? Thank you.
just bought one at Goodwill for$10. it has same error and motor isn't spinning. mine is xv-21 model. it is purple and grey. ordering a motor for $18 on eBay. it'll be a sweet deal if it works
You can get it on eBay or Amazon. Note that some of these motors have to be wired in reverse. Some people below list: $10.98 for motor + shipping from www.robotshop.com www.amazon.com/RF-500TB-12560-DC1-5-12V-2700RPM-Speed-Diameter/dp/B00QBZ1SX6
+Steven Dame Honestly, I just went on ebay and did a search for "neato lidar motor". Just be sure it comes with the leads attached. Again, this may not solve your issue. An example is here: www.ebay.com/itm/Neato-Vacuum-XV-Lidar-Motor-With-Power-Lead-Plug-SEE-DESCRIPTION-/181978580697?hash=item2a5ec4c6d9:g:lNwAAOSwjVVV0n1H
Brilliant ! I just replaced my WV 21 Motor and the error is gone.I got my motor from Amazon, here's the link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QBZ1SX6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00Don't forget to make sure that the rotation of the motor is reversed though, you do this by simple putting the positive cable on the negative receptor on the motor and the negative on the positive. Last, I would suggest being EXTREMELY careful at pulling of the connectors off the mother board, take your time and use small tools if necessary to keep things in place. Thanks for your taking the time for creating the video Mario !
Chris Strickland Mine didn't click all the time. You need to have 3 feet clear all around the base, otherwise you'll have issues. I don't have that kind of space around it, so I have to deal with crying from Neato and manually docking it.
***** I have 3 neatos. One randomly decides to pause cleaning. The other always spends 2 minutes or more trying to dock with my dog's s crate before going over to the dock 10 feet away. The third is stated by me manually after we are out of bed. I press the start button. It creeps forward, stops and backs up to dock again unless I quickly press start again.
+Expedito Rocha Honestly, I just went on ebay and did a search for "neato lidar motor". Just be sure it comes with the leads attached. Again, this may not solve your issue.
This should work for the XV-21 and alike, but you have to solder the wires on from your old motor. Also, I believe you need to reverse the polarity of the wires as this motor is wired differently. Keep in mind that this doesn't always solve the issue. www.amazon.com/RF-500TB-12560-DC1-5-12V-2700RPM-Speed-Diameter/dp/B00QBZ1SX6?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00Don%27t Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hey , Thanks very much for your really fast response. I do prefer ordering from eBay though. So what do you think? would any of these 2 do the work? ebay.to/29q6ZuX or ebay.to/29q7eWU Thanks!
+rotman22 If you are going to grab one of eBay, search for LIDAR motor with wires. I think I paid 12-15 for mine and it saves you from having to solder the wires.
Well , I actually like DIY projects and I think soldering the wires with be a no brainer for me... worst case scenario , I will break this robot. I don't like it anyway since it has so many issues :-/
This was the only one I found on eBay that mentions it works with Neato. www.ebay.com/itm/Neato-Vacuum-XV-Lidar-Motor-error-3000-My-Vision-BlocKed-Power-Lead-Plug-/182198682099?hash=item2a6be341f3:g:7D4AAOSwYmZXGfV7 You can also go to the Amazon page with the link I sent, get the spec's, size, hole dimensions and find a compatible motor. Just note some of these motors require you to wire the leads backwards. Good luck!
Yes, definitely on the older ones, can't say anything about the newer ones as I don't own ones. However, I've had the Roomba and I don't like it. I also have the shark with the self-empting bin, while it's a handy feature, I think it gets jammed more and needs more frequent maintenance.
I had this happen on my xv12, I still have it now. Runs perfectly right now. I also had to have the capacitors replaced on the motherboard and some new batteries
Great Video! Just finished this repair and the Neato Bot is back up and running like new!!! Thank ya Sir (p.s. I ordered the motor from amazon and soldiered the wires from the old motor on to the new one, black wire to the + of the motor to make it spin in the correct direction) www.amazon.com/RF-500TB-12560-DC1-5-12V-2700RPM-Speed-Diameter/dp/B00QBZ1SX6
Ty for this. Personally, I've had nothing but trouble w/ both the Neatos I bought for my house & my moms. The bumper error, the eyesight error, and also both neato LCD screens went blank. I'm not happy I bought these things at all. Cheap China crap
No. I used a hand screwdriver and made sure it had the right tip for the heads. Too blunt of a Phillips had screwdriver will probably round out the heads. Also when assembling, no need to torque the daylights out of the screws.

Also, make sure sensor windows (tinted plastic) are free of debris and dust.
Thanks for the video, well done. I'm having trouble getting past the stuck bumper problem. Ant ideas?
Not at a PC, but I talk specifically about the bumper hinge pivot inserts not sitting correctly. If you have never taken it apart before, it's either that or the micro switches.
Also, make sure the unit is flat and level. If the cover doesn't go on easily and perfectly, stop, readjust the bumpers and do it again. You need patience for that part.
Thanks for the video. Just followed it and was able to fix my vacuum.
Awesome. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Ardoewaan Mine originally would spin slowly, or not at all. is a gamble really. If you got the time and a few dollars to waste, it may be worth it.
Can you share where you purchased your replacement motor please?
Here is one link below, there are several places though.
Be aware most of these motors that I am aware of must be wired backwards. Red Wire to negative on motor, Black wire to + on motor.

Thanks for watching!
Check out some other videos on that issue as well before proceeding.
Thanks to both of you. My motor had a brush arm that was not right, slight bend. Straighten it out and now is working fine.
Thanks,not sure I can do this😢
@@Richaannand It can be scary the first time pulling it apart. Perhaps you know someone with soldering skills that can help you?
Informative video. I appreciate the effort it took to put it together.
Thanks for watching!
Great video! i have the exact same problem, where did you buy the new motor?
Just go into this assuming the same.
thnx, my neato is running again.
Bought the motor on ebay for 6 euro :)
peter stove Awesome, glad it helped! Please give the video a thumbs up, Thanks!
Thank you!
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
Well It's seems that is not a quality machine. I have last week to do buy a "Connected" type. Is this the same bad thing? The same construction? How old is yours on the video here? I have not receive mine. But when is a horrible thing I buy a Roombla.
Where can I get the motor, did not mention any replacement info.
The link is somewhere below, but here is one of them:
www.amazon.com/RF-500TB-12560-DC1-5-12V-2700RPM-Speed-Diameter/dp/B00QBZ1SX6
Read the comments as I believe you need to wire the motor backwards.

It's worked!!! Thanks a lot!

Wow! Thanks Mario!
Daniel Moore Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Thank you so much for this video as I saved a lot of money. Cheers ;)
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching and commenting!
mine is spinning and still has 3000 error, they wont cover the robot so looks like i have to fix this myself with no warranty, any ideas? thanks
So, mine was spinning too, just not as fast as it should.
When you say they won't cover the robot, what do you mean?
The motor is cheap poor quality, so it is doomed to fail at some point.
Thanks for this.
So I should have watched this video before I ordered the motor... It's not wired. (don't know whether getting one wired in The Netherlands is an option at all). Anybody make a video on how to wire the motor? I suppose I can just use the old wires off the broken motor?
Yes, you can use the wires off the old motor.
However, many motors require you to reverse polarity of the wires.
BTW, you have some good content, subscribed.

Mario where do I buy the motor with the wires attached?
eBay probably.
Most sell without wire and you have to be sure they are wired backwards.
One below with wires is pricey, but if you don't have a soldering iron, it may be the way to go.
www.ebay.com/itm/Neato-XV-Lidar-Motor-error-3000-My-Vision-BlocKed-Power-Lead-Plug/182669339427?hash=item2a87f0eb23:g:7D4AAOSwYmZXGfV7
Whew. Not bad to take apart after you do it once.
I know, right?
Boa noite, eu encaixo a caixa que recebe a sujeira e o robô pede pra encaixar, o que pode ser
Thank you.
wires are plugged in also
zortella subs like a LIDAR issue. What was the issue before?
vision blocked 3000
zortella I assume you tried the motor? Did it come with preattached leads? If not, some motors require the positive and negative wires reversed.
Mario Monti that may be the problem. I attached the positive wire to the positive post on the motor
just bought one at Goodwill for$10. it has same error and motor isn't spinning. mine is xv-21 model. it is purple and grey. ordering a motor for $18 on eBay. it'll be a sweet deal if it works
Certainly would.
Let us know how it works out!
What website did you use for the part?
You can get it on eBay or Amazon.
Note that some of these motors have to be wired in reverse.
Some people below list:
$10.98 for motor + shipping from www.robotshop.com
www.amazon.com/RF-500TB-12560-DC1-5-12V-2700RPM-Speed-Diameter/dp/B00QBZ1SX6
Thank you, this is all very informative and helpful.
Where do you get the battery?
tanks. i found my problem. its a little rub o ring. i will buy another. tanks.
where did you get the motor?
+Steven Dame Honestly, I just went on ebay and did a search for "neato lidar motor". Just be sure it comes with the leads attached.
Again, this may not solve your issue.
An example is here:
www.ebay.com/itm/Neato-Vacuum-XV-Lidar-Motor-With-Power-Lead-Plug-SEE-DESCRIPTION-/181978580697?hash=item2a5ec4c6d9:g:lNwAAOSwjVVV0n1H
Thanks for the link and commenting!
Thank you! It seems to be a lot of work tho.
+Russell Wu It is, and there is no guarantee if it will work or for how long.
Put mine back together. 4 spare screws :)
Still works though, doesn't it! :)
***** yup:) for some reason at the end of its cleaning it decided to dock against a bare wall about 4 feet away from the base. Brand new batteries.
RCdiy I'll bet they're the four that go under the u-shaped bumper piece. (I did the same thing!)
It creeps forward, stops and backs up to dock again unless I quickly press start again.
please. talk to me. what specification of motor replaced.
+Expedito Rocha Honestly, I just went on ebay and did a search for "neato lidar motor". Just be sure it comes with the leads attached.
Again, this may not solve your issue.
See Ivan's comment for the info if you haven't seen it yet.
what kind of motor do I need to order?
This should work for the XV-21 and alike, but you have to solder the wires on from your old motor.
Also, I believe you need to reverse the polarity of the wires as this motor is wired differently.
Keep in mind that this doesn't always solve the issue.
www.amazon.com/RF-500TB-12560-DC1-5-12V-2700RPM-Speed-Diameter/dp/B00QBZ1SX6?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00Don%27t

Hey , Thanks very much for your really fast response.
I do prefer ordering from eBay though.
So what do you think? would any of these 2 do the work?
ebay.to/29q6ZuX
or
ebay.to/29q7eWU
Thanks!
This was the only one I found on eBay that mentions it works with Neato.
www.ebay.com/itm/Neato-Vacuum-XV-Lidar-Motor-error-3000-My-Vision-BlocKed-Power-Lead-Plug-/182198682099?hash=item2a6be341f3:g:7D4AAOSwYmZXGfV7
You can also go to the Amazon page with the link I sent, get the spec's, size, hole dimensions and find a compatible motor.
Just note some of these motors require you to wire the leads backwards.
Good luck!
seems like a very common issue with the neatos
Yes, definitely on the older ones, can't say anything about the newer ones as I don't own ones. However, I've had the Roomba and I don't like it. I also have the shark with the self-empting bin, while it's a handy feature, I think it gets jammed more and needs more frequent maintenance.
I had this happen on my xv12, I still have it now. Runs perfectly right now. I also had to have the capacitors replaced on the motherboard and some new batteries
@@jamesplayzroblox3143 I've replaced the batteries twice on my Neato. I'm using the shark instead right now.
Great Video! Just finished this repair and the Neato Bot is back up and running like new!!! Thank ya Sir (p.s. I ordered the motor from amazon and soldiered the wires from the old motor on to the new one, black wire to the + of the motor to make it spin in the correct direction) www.amazon.com/RF-500TB-12560-DC1-5-12V-2700RPM-Speed-Diameter/dp/B00QBZ1SX6

those bump sensors are a bitch. I recommend not putting g all of the screws back until you test it. that's what I did. saved me some time.
It can be.
I'm pretty good at it now though, lots of practice!
Ty for this. Personally, I've had nothing but trouble w/ both the Neatos I bought for my house & my moms. The bumper error, the eyesight error, and also both neato LCD screens went blank. I'm not happy I bought these things at all. Cheap China crap
Glad it helped.
I bought a second refurb and it was junk out of the box with the 3000 error and I returned it.
Neato needs better QC.
has anyone else had a problem with every screw being cheap and stripping?
zortella I haven't with any except the smallest single screw in the front corner that holds a sensor in place. Have had it apart several times too.
I've had 4 screws strip out so far, not to mention the battery compartment screws that I replaced long ago.
yes, very bad quality
No. I used a hand screwdriver and made sure it had the right tip for the heads. Too blunt of a Phillips had screwdriver will probably round out the heads. Also when assembling, no need to torque the daylights out of the screws.
Thank you.. it worked....what a joke... must be made in Russia. you kick everything mechanical in Russia to make it work
