- Rosy our beloved Neato XV-11 robotic vacuum is sick and has a battery error message that says "Please Press Okay To Restart. Battery Issue (0002) (0008 (0009) (0005) (0006) . In this video you can learn how to repair this problem yourself with a simple fix.
For those who like to know how thing work, we also did a complete detailed tear down of the entire machine and explain how all the sensors, motors and electronics work together in unison to navigate this complicated vacuum cleaner that is a truly technological wonder.
Using a specially modified camera you will get a first hand visual look at how the on-board infrared laser sensors operate and aid in the navigation of the unit.
We have created a separate supplemental video showing how we modified a cheap digital camera to operate in the infrared spectrum by removing the IR blocking filter that can be watched here... • How to Modify Cheap Di...

People complain about the 0008 battery error. For this a very simple worked for me. I short circuited the +- and it started charging normally again. Thank me later.
Surprisingly after purchasing two sets of batters due to "Battery Issue (0008)" I located the problem that the third pin was pushed down just like in the video. I pulled it up with small needle nose pliers and pushed the battery connector back on and the vacuum works like new. I had been told by the repair shop that this error was a result of the board possibly being bad. This video saved me $hundreds in a repair or replacement.
After 3 sets of replacement batteries, 2 aftermarket and 1 genuine OEM, I came across this video and sure enough my 3rd pin was pushed down! Pulled it back out and everything is fine. Thank you so much for saving Bobot (my wife named him).
Neato delivers all the sensor data and internal electric measures over USB for analyzing problems. The Neato Control Program provides a graphic interface to the data, and a text interface can also be used, controlling all the motors separately. The model shown here is old; newer models do not have the side jack for charging. The resistor shown on the back charging contacts serves to control the charger and has been eliminated in the newer models with different docks; the old docks cannot charge newer models with new detection systems (Neato pulls away from the dock if the connection is poor, to prevent heating the contacts and melting plastic). Sometimes the contacts need cleaning.
The laser is hard to see because low power for eye safety as well as pulsating, like radar.
Well all my pegs are tight and the connections are good inside and out. I think honestly the original batteries in mine are shot. I think now that this useful video is old now. I think the original batteries have outlived their useful lifetime. This very instructive video is awesome if the batteries are newer, however nothing lasts forever. If the screen display is normal and all the resets have been done and one knows 100% that the connections are secure and a voltmeter test shows there's no open circuits or shorts anywhere and the code still reads 0002 then the fault most definitely lies in the power source which is the battery. Thanks for this informative video. 👍👍👍
Dude! Your video helped me save my Neato from trash! I was ready to give up, but the malfunction was caused by the loose battery connections!
My pins were all straight and bright so I tried to use the alternate charge method of plugging in rather than use the docking station and got nothing. My last chance was to clean the exposed contact rails on the back of the unit and the corresponding bars on the base docking unit. They didn't look that bad but I cleaned them with 3M fast drying spray contact cleaner and paper towel. I cleaned them twice and pretty aggressively and bingo she's charging. We'll see tomorrow AM. Thanks for your video.
I just wiped mine with a damp paper towel. Bingo. Charging now. Not bad for a girl. Funny how the help page doesn't mention it as a possibility.
GREAT VIDEO! I really learned a lot for watching. Now, if someone could only come up with a fix for the "Please turn my battery switch to on" error. This only happens with a fully charged battery. With a partially charged battery, pressing run, getting the "battery needs to charge" message, put it on the charger and it will sense the charge level when it is adequate and start up. But, if left on the charger overnight, it goes back to the "turn on switch" error and won't run. I've replaced the battery with both LION and stock with no change. I also fixed cold solder connections on the switch, which seems to be hand soldered. Any ideas?
Works like a charm. Disassembled to glue the pesky pin in place forever. Nearly ordered a new set of batteries.Thank you!
Thanks for such a neat visual of the sensors in addition to the instructions & guide to the inner workings of the Neato! I have a D 4 (I think) it’s white w a blue laser lid; & it keeps telling me to turn the switch on. It’s charged & ive only used it a handful of time. I really liked it so I bought a newer version which is « connected. It definitely has a learning curve
On a XV-21 I got the " Battery Issue 0002" message. Its seems that I fixed with a deep clean of contact rails on charger and contact exposed wires on the robot but also making sure that on-off switch on the bin compartment is turned on. (I guess I turn off this switch accidentally). Batteries are charging right know.
Thanks! This lead me to the problem. Instead of the post on that connector being shoved into the unit, the connector in the adapter was pushed back up towards the wire. I took a screw driver and shoved it back and and now it works!
Excellent, glad to know I was of some help. Good Work!
13:54 if you hook up an ohm meter to the yellow wires, and hold your finger on top, warming the sensor. The more heat it up, the more the resistance changes. Correct?
In case anyone has the 0002 issue with the Neato XV Signature Pro: this can be caused by accidentally turning the on-off switch located next to the cleaning bin to off. Neato XV-1* and XV-2* don't have such a switch so don't bother looking for it.
Very useful, thanks for the video. Worked for me - mine was complaining about battery issue 0009.
Thanks, my Neato had the same problem you described, and i was able to fix it as well.
Very interesting. I was looking for a fix for Sarah, my XV-25 which has developed a charging or starting issue. It just shows a dim start button light, fails to start, no error message. To start it I keep it at the charge bay but also connect to the USB connector a second charger, then do full re-boot (long press of start button), then give it a couple hours to charge. I find this problem occurs most often if it isn't used every day. My research has pointed to a weak capacitor somewhere, so looking for a video of how to repair that.
Had a Battery issue 0002. I realised (after seveval tries) it was related to Unbalanced batteries. As the batteries are connected in series, if one of them are discharged, you will have the battery 0002 issue. I solved the issue discharging completelly both battteries. reconnected, and the issue 0002 disapeared. If you install batteries completely charged, you are not going to be able to reset issue 0002 (I tried that). Hope this can help.
was a loose battery connection in my case, it wasn't charging till it died... pulled the battery, put it back, good as new, charging again properly.
and thank you this video was super helpful....
Very interesting. I'm about to take mine (different model) apart to solve a 0007 report, which apparently means the unit is too cold.
My Neato is having the 0007 report also. Did you find a solution? Mine's a refurb XV-RS (which I think is the same as an XV-21). Googling, sounds like a lot of people with refurbs of this model had the problem -- and Neato customer support wasn't much help.
quick question, I'm troubleshooting a battery problem. (xv signature) One of the battery connectors in my unit is giving me continuity between two pins. The pin that lines up with the black wire of the battery, and the thermistor pin next to it. The other connector does not have continuity between any pins. I'm wondering if this is normal or the source of my problems.
Wow! Best "take down" of the Neato Vacuum I've seen! I've got the BotVac D80, and I hope you'll do a similar video on that, too. I just subscribed to your videos. Thanks!
You are a smart guy !!!
Thank you for this video. I have a Neato XV 12 and it charges, but my new batteries loose time every time. I looked at the connectors inside and noticed that the two in the neato are broken on the sqare side of each of them. Even if the pins are o.k. could that be the problem? and if so, I live in Canada and don't know where I could buy these connectors, do you have any idea where to get those?
Bonjour Monsieur désolé je ne parle pas anglais je suis marocain bref j’ai un problème NEATO D l’interrupteur est toujours allumé ne coupe pas le courant et empêche la charge du batterie et le bouton home clignote vite merci de m’aider
Thanks for your video! I'll investigate my problem the same way.
i has ben repair the pin in my neato , but error 0005 persistsed. it constantly restart and tell me about error 0005 battery issue.
My ev xv had the 0002 error. Removed battery and saw a pin pushed low. Pulled it up, re-installed the batteries, charged and it worked! But then it gave charging errors, solid orange light. It would not charge and it would not run. I do not recall the steps but I messed with turning it off with menu and other things I could get it to run a bit but it kept quitting. I left it on power over night then left it off overnight and and did a soft reset... held the big button down 30 seconds. It is charged in less than 15 minutes.. I do not trust it and from reading other posts have learned that the "molex"? connectors are very fragile. I think I would like to replace the ones in the neato. Does anyone know what part it is? Also, this video starts with the machine torn almost totally down. Is this much tear down needed to either put in the hot glue or replace those connectors?
Informative. Thanks.
Good video! Thanks!
hi bro, my neato clean only corner not clean center my room tell me please ,what problem what i do??
Hard reset. Hold bumper on side in while pressing power button until it goes out then turn it on again.
very educational, thank you :)
Great video - did you consider replacing those original batteries with modern Lion?
I replaced my batteries with LION and it was a HUGE improvement over the stock battery. More power, longer run time, and they have a much longer service life. Stock batteries lasted about 1 1/2 years. My LIONs have been running for several years with no issues.
Thanks for the video =)
Good info, keep it up.
The people at Neato told me that the vacuum knows that it is full by having 3 hours (or maybe 3.5) of run time.
