I love Queensryche. I was there. Sorry to say it was not us, we did not have to work tomorrow, Monday was a holiday. They acted like they were the only band playing, and everyone (like me) knows all the words to their songs. So no, Queensryche you sucked on Sunday, not the people. They owe you nothing, and that is what you gave them.

I met him at a meet & greet in at a concert in 2001 when the band was opening for Iron Maiden and he was an asshole in almost every conceivable way.
While Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford took the time to speak with fans sign autographs and were actually really polite and personable Geoff Tate was rude pushy and seemed to be more interested in getting back to the hotel than interacting with the fans.
He came across like Axl Rose to me and quite honestly that's not a good thing.

    • @MikeB_2112
      @MikeB_2112 3 года назад

Same here. At a Rage for Order meet and greet. All I had was a cassette cover of The Warning for them to sign. DeGarmo, Wilton, Fast Eddie were all really really cool and took pics with me. (Scott wasn’t there) But Tate was like “The Warning??”. I guess he was mad cuz I didn’t have their new album yet. So he signed it but it was just a reluctant scribble. He looked like he despised everyone there.

    • @Rick5150

I had meet and greet tickets through a local radio station. Snubbed by everyone in the band except for Michael. Geoff was in a roped off area drinking wine and didn't speak to a single fan.

This clip reminds me of when David Lee Roth interviewed Edward Van Halen. Both of them agreed: "Its not the audience's job to pump up the artist." If the artist is doing the job they'll get that feedback, but it's not the responsibility of the audience to pump up the artist. It was an interesting take especially when you look at this clip.

Which is probably why he sings with Crimson Glory and covers an even higher register than Tate in that band and yet he hasn't blown out his voice. He has been doing that for a few years now. I don't think so,give The Ryche a chance the recent show in Corpus Cristi was incredible as well as the half way jam. Todd knows how to walk the talk.

As a person who was at this show and a native okie, I have to say in our defense, the reason the crowd sucked was because Queensryche sounded horrible, played mediocre and had no energy to bring to the stage. Because of this everyone left and watched HellYeah at the other stage which was a fucking barn-burner of a show.

Probably true on Blaze, I guess one thing he did for Maiden was give them a connection with some new and younger fans, which in turn has given them a massive new fan base. Of course all of us who grew up with Maiden are still going strong too! Good on 'em, they just keep on getting better and better! I really hoped that Queensryche would be able to move forward with the same kind of power, I know they could do it, but sometimes greatness falls apart too...sometimes it rediscovers itself.

Playing to a dead crowd must suck, no energy, no emotion. It makes that band feel bored, and like the crowd isn't into the music. Geoff was obviously pissed off by it and told the truth. He was trying to get people to be more active, I mean is a rock concert not a opera or orchestra. you don't go to these shows to sit and be quiet. you go there to rock the F**K out! for Geoff to say that so easily and without care, the crowd must have truly been the worst he's seen. It wasn't taken out of context. I was there. I love Queensryche but he was rude. They had only played a few songs at that point and they weren't the more known songs. So, of course the crowd wasn't hiped up. That is his job. And he wasn't there a couple years ago. It had to have been a different year because I was there a couple years ago. A lot of the crowd doesn't go for the "older" bands so not everyone knew who they were which is the reality of why he was upset.

I have been a Queensryche fan most of my life growing up in Tacoma. Seen the highs and lows. Having said all of this: Geoff Tate made an asshat comment. But does that make him an asshat? Maybe....Maybe he is a little distraught over been kicked out of the band a week prior. Knowing that this was his last gig. Seeing the rows of empty chairs. It was sad when DeGarmo left. It will be sad when Tate leaves. But I will see Rising West next week at the Hard Rock. Because their music lives on.

The thing with Blaze Bailey's time in Iron Maiden was that after Bruce left the sort of lost their identity and were trying to find it.
If Blaze had stayed for another album or two they probably would have found their stride again but the hardcore fans and record company didn't want to give them that chance.
If they had done Silicone Messiah as an Iron Maiden album it probably would have been a hit.

It's a great time, with GREAT people. Queensryche used to be one of my favorites, however, after their unfortunate performance the reaction they received from the crowd was exactly what they deserved! Apparently the pot insists on calling the kettle black, even in the concert world.

You sit and be quiet if you want to watch the musicians play and really appreciate the music by giving it all of your concentration. If you're running around in a pit, knocking people over, you're not giving the band your full attention so why did you even bother to show up? Sit down so the people behind you can see. They paid good money for their tickets to see the band - not to see you. I remember seeing Lemmy say basically that to some idiots at an Overkill/Motorhead/Slayer show.

Security had to pull him off the stage! QR should have pulled the plug when Chris left.

The best to get a crowd into the show and fired up is to tell them they suck. What the hell was he thinking?.

he is right. the crowd ws tame, but he shouldnt be running his mouth like that, I was in the pit and could barely hear the vocals... that made us tame

We were in the pit and honestly... you couldn't hear a word Geoff sang! We tried to yell out to him between every song and tell them to turn up the vocals. It was impossible to get into the songs with no vocals being heard at all. Oh well... It may have been a great performance, but we couldn't hear it.

This band should have packed it in the day Chris DeGarmo left, if not before.
And any performer knows, you NEVER talk to your audience like this. Let the music do the talking.

...Dickinson became Iron Maiden and again turned them into a new band, sure they still play "Wrathchild" once in a while but he doesn't copy Paul's recording of it! Give Geoff credit due, he created a sound and a style all his own and I have never thought any of QR's albums "sucked", because of GT, they have always done the unexpected, that is art.

"If I were the organizers of this festival, I may never invite them back again." - did you see the size of that crowd? I don't think that there will be an "again" to be invited back to for anybody.

If he's out the door anyway, it's fairly tame. He could've been way more of an asshole. That said, that crowd is paying his mascara bill, so it is uncool of him to dis them like that.

@@markusaurelius777 *Hey, thanks for that article. I believe Michael, he's really cool and humble. His accounts of Geoff's actions just killed the memories of the past.... I'll never listen to the old stuff the same way again. Todd is great, I like the new stuff. It's all a shame it ended that way. I'm surprised Mike, Scott and Eddie put up with all that for sooooo long.*
