Good job!you just saved me $550 in parts.also for calibrating the Steering angle sensor is to turn the clock spring all the way to right then turn it back 3 and half times.and you should have extra 3 and half times space to turn it all the way to left.if you turn it more it would brake the wire inside for air bag.air bag wire is the shortest wire in all the wires inside.
Nice 1. Step by step so this encouraged me to have a go. I did manage to fix it, ( turn off airbag warnin light) although it seems I'd a slightly different problem. And working on a different vehicle, Rebault Master, but steps all the same near enough however I could find no broken, cracked or frayed wires or pins in need of soldering or fixing, but what I did do while I was at it was to clean up all the plugs and electrical connections before putting it all back together and this seems to have done the job. Might try this 1st before taking all apart if ever going at it again. So good oul WD40 comes to the rescue again and saving €250 on parts from manufacturer whenever he managed to get them in. Thanks for very helpful vid also, cheers.
We can use the spare loop, if available. I have done so in my toyota fortuner and innova. I traced four wires unused, and I made a bypass through them.
Its insane to me how much shops are quoting people to replace a clock spring! It takes me literally about 5min to remove mine in a 2011 gmc sierra. Took me maybe 15min the first time and 90% of that time was trying to depress the release clips for my air bag! Ive soldered a lot of led strip lights which is the same ribbon cable as the clock spring if you want to practice on something much cheaper first
I can't tell you how much heat exactly I used, but small soldering gun would work. Its really small contacts, so you don't need lots of heat. Don't go too crazy so you won't melt all around repair area. Best of luck!
Not really designed to be repaired, but as you see, can be done. Mine still works 💯 after I redone all contacts, even those which were good at the moment. Eventually they all gonna break. Just do them all while you there.
Thank you for video. I am not very mechanical but I am going to try the fix. Could you please explain again where the steering angle sensor is located and how not to disconnect it? It seems like this is an important step. I know you explained it at the very end but could you please give me some more detail where it is and how not to screw that part of it up. Because I do not have a scanning tool to reset, I don't have any friends that have a scanning tool either. I would have to take it to a dealership. Thank You Again, by chance do you have any other videos on dodge ram repairs?
Check out my conversation with Guilherme Martins, I explained here in comments where the sensor is, and couple other related things. Just look the comments up.
By chance did you disconnect your battery before starting to pull the steering wheel off. I have seen videos some disconnect the battery some don't, what's best. I am assuming not to disconnect the battery because you need to use the scan tool?
@@marcusslaten8806 if you're not much experienced in car repairs I would suggest you to disconnect it, before you unplug steering wheel airbag. You might need to turn steering wheel left and right, and it's easier on running engine, so after you remove bag, right before disconnecting it, put your wheels straight and then disconnect the battery, and then bag connectors.
And... does it still work? I bet it will break again soon, either directly next to the repair spot, or at another kink. That ribbon cable is worn. But finally a nice vid showing how it works
For amateurs, yes, but for Master mechanic, we don't need to disconnect the battery, as you unplug the steering column harness, you disconnect the power.
Possibly it's column itself, not the clockspring, not sure. But very few chances it's dry, even so, not much to click inside of clockspring. High chances it's something else
@@fixxxer6484 I don't think it's the column it definitely sounds like plastic scratching plastic. Definitely coming from right behind the steering wheel
Hello Sir, i'm having real difficulties to remove the two black connector from the plastic housing where the wire strip is connected to. Can you help me with that please
Use something like credit card or guitar pick, they have locking tabs on the bottom. So insert card between connector and the housing. It's tricky a bit. Don't force it too much, or they would break. They work even broken, but better to save it. The one that closer to the wires, should come off first. Hope it helps

You should use something more like Super Lube grease that is safer around plastics.
