- Hey RUclipsrs,
Mika, my great guitar tech, has just serviced my old Gibson L50 from 1937. This instrument was equiped with a Charlie Christian pick up by Dutch luthier Daniel Slaman.
Here I am playing an old standard song not so oftenly played. There is a great version around, in 4/4, by my hero Dexter Gordon but here I am using the original 3/4 signature.
Gear used: Fender Deluxe Reveb Reissue '65. Mic'ing was done with a Shure SM57 in front of the speaker.
Hope you'll appreciate the sound of it
Cheers..
phenomenal
Thanks Lovies. It's a great instrument. See its story in my comments; Best.
That L50 sounds and looks beautiful! Really a surprise to hear this tune -- you're right that it's not commonly played anymore. ... I love Dexter's "Go" album, too. :-D
A great performance that really brings out the tone of this fine instrument.
Fred, please tell me you make a living playing music. What we are hearing is not just practice but true TALENT
dang, that was the sweetest thing I have heard on You Tube in quite some time. Thank you.
A beautiful tune and a great playing.. I enjoyed it so much! And I wonder what kind of pick do you use on this?
Hi TY. I'm using picks made by JC Dugain, a great French pick crafter. They are quite thick, 3 mm at least, and the shape of the thumb is carved into the horn, making then very comfortable to hold. The model I use is made out of horn. The thickness plus the horn material give both a strom attack and a nice mellow tone. Cheers.
Thank you Fred. I've heard a lot of good things about Dugain picks. I'll have to check it out!
Did the braces have to be cut on the L50 to get the pickup in there? Difficult job, that!
Yes, the braces were cut by my luthier Daniel Slaman. A highly qualified man! Best.
...a Legend!
@@lamgefyoutoob Yes he is!
@@FredArchtop Yep the ES-150 is X braced (Got one a 37 and you can see that inside with a mirror, the L-50 is parallel braced, otherwise they are pretty much the same guitar, not counting the CC pickup of course!
