I first used fieldnotes gifted to me to create my annual week to a page notes diary. I loosely use the Cornell note taking template. Organised in one column with event and appointment reminders where I have to leave the unit. Random in the other column logging and listing for home tasks that may or may not get done or possibly migratedto another week. The bottom space across the page is for my top tasks of the week and minimal future log.

Enjoyed the video. The notebooks are to help us write. Writing is the goal, not "notebooking." Whatever medium gets me writing is a win. I've recently loved just writing on a legal pad tearing out my page once I've filled it and tossing it. I feel a little queasy not keeping all this logged away for reference but that's not my goal - WRITING is my goal.

I'm glad you finally got over yourself (always the biggest hurdle), amd are now letting yourself enjoy those gorgeous Field Notes!
I'm someone who switches favorites like shirts, and never stick with one thing too long! I have 30 pocket notebooks, and they're a collection of 5 different versions/brands - just to prep for the inevitable desire of something different. However, I'm still obsessed with the first brand of pocket notebooks I ever tried, so I hope I'll get through the 10 of these I have before i feel the urge to try one of the others.
On another unrelated note, I recently finished your entire catalogue of videos and you're now one of my fav youtubers! Its very weird not having anything new to watch from you since I'm all caught up.

I have a big desire for consistency in format of notebook and a desire for change/novelty. I want a bookshelf of all the same books, but also i want something new.
While in japan, i brought just a few new notebooks. But i used different sizes and formatted. I am currently writing in a landscape a5 lined Campus notebook. I don’t love it, but i just finished it. But it was fun to spend time in a notebook i wouldnt have used before because of “the rules” i set in my brain.
Also i used to be a BIG follow the order guy. I felt bad that i would never come back to old journals. But guess what, i did and in less than 18 months.
I dived away from Field Notes because they are abit too short for me. But your recent coverage of the bird books is really tempting!

as an artist i have exactly the same problem with sketchbooks- i TOTALLY get you!! its even worse when you use wet and dry mediums and have to consider which paper types can handle the mediums you want to use. I'm trying to narrow down the number of sketchbooks that i have going at once but its a bit of a struggle. as of current i have....13 sketchbooks currently in use. different shapes, different sizes, thicker paper, gridded paper, black paper.... I find it very hard to stick to just one. i have a few shoeboxes of empty books and I treat it as a little stockpile. so when i want a new book- rather than "oh which one did i buy most recently-?" the question becomes: "which book am i most excited to use right now?

So I haven't started officially using them yet (and I plan on making a full video about them, so stay tuned), but I have been told that a basic ball-point pen is the way to go on these books. If I were to use a gel pen like I usually do, it would smear and not be good.

The thing I love about Field Notes is that I don't have to be too precious with them. The patina and the casualness of them is part of the point. OMG I thought I was the only one who felt a sense of useless guilt in switching between notebook types. Like I was betraying a friend. So I went back to an A5 bullet journal after falling down the stationary rabbit hole (which I loved, hate & regret) but I had “rediscovered” my little stack of field notes while purging over a month ago. I started using them to close out 2024 & felt this surge of energy and peace. But I needed something a little bigger so I went back to my bullet journal. In 2025, I am using my bullet journal for my to do’s & daily reflections AND using field notes as my common place notebook for all my learning from books & videos I’m doing in 2025. 😅

I TOTALLY understand wanting to use them in the order of whenyiu got them. I think it's an OCD tendency. With that being said, welcome to the Field Notes family 🎉🎊🥳 I knew you would join us eventually 😂 Btw I don't necessarily think the cost of the Field Notes is due to the name of the brand but its due to Field Notes being made in America.
