I'm a self-described affordable pen nerd and what I've learned over many years is that pens, from expensive to cheap, really depends on how you write and how you hold your pen. People who write very fast and loopy tend to need a wider ink line than someone who has very small writing, for example. Additionally, someone with larger hands will probably like holding a chunkier pen than someone with smaller hands that would like a thinner pen.
I 100% agree with this! I've noticed the same thing in that I write fast, so the bolder tips work better for me. My .5mm and below just skip too much because of how quickly I write. I also love a chunkier pen. I especially enjoy a heavy pen! The metal barrel s gel has been my favorite as far as weight is concerned so far.
Honestly, I just use Bioworld Floaty pens and man oh man are they amazingly well sized and fun to use! And they can be refilled too! And i also use the metal barrelled Sharpie S-Gels because theyre refillable and are just perfect in every way
Right you are!!! There's definitely some significant differences, still fun to compare tho. Especially considering there were some ball point pens that went higher than gel🤔
I’ve been writing with the uniball Signo 207 black or blue ink .7 mm as an undergraduate through graduate to now…I recently decided to try the Sharpie S gel, pilot g2, and the Tul. I like the pilot g2 and the Tul and may switch to both. The g2 1.0 for bolder ink and .7 mm Tul for medium ink.
Cheap disposable pens were my go to, that is until I tried a Parker Jotter. I can't go back now! It writes especially good when the Jotter is armed with a Schneider refill.
Yup, you should try the Energel. It’s the best.... But it is a gel/ rollerball rather than a ballpoint so you won’t be writing on credit cards with it.
My favorite pen depends on the paper I’m using. I also have small writing. For the mini composition notebook: - Gel pens = Pentel Energel-X .5 / Pentel Energel RTX .7 / Sarasa Dry .4 - Ballpoint pen = For any paper, especially Tomoe River paper, I love using the Uni-Jetstream .7 Fun video! TFS! 🤗
Before I found your channel, I was using Sharpie S-Gel pens and writing in Pen+Gear Mini Composition notebooks. Now I am definitely buying more of each when I run out 😎 Thanks Garrett
If you do another test, you HAVE to give the Uni-Ball Signo 0.7 a chance. It's been my favorite pen for decades now. It's main claim to fame is its resistance to check washing. I used it all throughout college, but eventually the clicker end will separate from the pen body, and it will literally fly across the room. Not good when this happens during a lecture lol. My solution is a TUL gel pen body with a Signo cartridge. It has never let me down yet. I just happened to have some of the TUL pens laying around, but there was something I didn't like about the ink, so I tried the combination. Just something to think about should you feel like testing more pens.
Hey Garrett, I'm a big fan of your videos, they are just so relaxing to watch. As a stationery afficcionado myself, I’m pretty particular about pens and once I find one I like, it’s hard to switch. The Pentel Energel is my favorite-it’s lightweight, ergonomic, dries instantly, and never skips. It comes in various tip sizes, but I prefer the 0.5mm needle tip for precision. The option to replace the ink reservoir without changing the barrel is a great feature, and it's priced similarly to the S-Gel and G-2. I also like the Pilot G-2, though it can be inconsistent, the Muji knock-type in 0.5mm, and the Uni-ball Signo RT1, which is comfy and stylish. The Papermate is decent, I used it for a while in college but it tends to throw too much ink and muddled my notes.
Oooo very nice! I love it when you can have easily compatible and interchangeable ink. There are so many good pens out there it's hard to just pick one🤣
You're good at doing simple reviews of writing tools like this. I would like, my distant friend, for you to continue to do reviews on various pens, including: gel pens, roller pens and just ballpoint pens and different brands Pilot, Pentel, Uni. I like it
Those pens that you test are ok, From all those I have Uni-ball one with the UMR 05 ink, but the ones that you should try are Pentel Energel (my favorites and the ones the I use the most) and Zebra sarasa line Clip, Vintage, Mark on, Dry (my second favorite) Smooths, vibrant colors simply the best of the best.
Thanks for sharing this pen test video. I have been using the Sharpie S Gels. My other favorites are the G-2 and the .97 cent Pentel R.S.V.P. I may try the Pen & Gear brand because I have been using their notebooks.
For me, the best one is Pilot GreenBall Refillable 07 with a classic closing cap. In second place is Pentel Energel Liquid Gel Pen 07 clicker. Both are very good, although they take a long time to dry and smudge under the highlighter, but the writing comfort is amazing.
You should try using a Fountain Pen with a Extra-Fine Nib for journaling. I recommend the LAMY Safari Because it has an all ABS Plastic body and you can use it as a beater and you can use either a cartridge or a converter to soak up the in ink from a bottle.
@@GareTheBear I understand but, I think that you'll find that it will write better for than you think, especially for cursive or regular print writing. I also recommend the Pilot Varsity because they are disposable and you can get a pack of them for not much money. The pilot varsity will give the feel of writing with a fountain pen without having to refill the pen with a cartridge or fill a converter. The pilot Varsity is a great way to try out a fountain pen to see if it will work for you without making an expensive commitment. I think that it would make a good video idea as well.
I use refills because I like machined and higher end pens. The three refills I love are the Uni-Ball UMR-87E which is a gel refill. The Uni-Ball Jetstream SXR-600-07 which is a ballpoint. The last is Zebra JLV-07. This refill is quick drying. All three are very smooth. The UMR-87E is used in the 207+ and 307 pens if I remember correctly. It’s hands down my favorite and it’s fraud resistant as well. 207 and 307 are used in banks and such for that very reason.
I'm left handed too. A good jumpy pen is a MUST!!!😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I do like Pilot G2s, I do really enjoy using their frixon pens for my "at home" planner. My Mom had a pack of colored ink Papermate Profile pens and I remember those I love them for the nostalgia but they're not the best. I do like the look of the Profile. I have been wanting to try the inkjoy pens, I do like the look too. Gare: "This is the pen I am using right now it's the best!" Sharpie S•Gel: "HA!! You thought! I'm going to ruin your whole RUclips career 😈" At this time I'm using a Micron, I like to use it because it's permanent but it does skip if its not laying down flat on a stable surface...it is a drawing pen after all lol. I have been wanting to try the S•Gel...but I dont think they come in different sizes. I like to try and use smaller nib pens because I write big and sloppy.
Haha, I love this!! The S Gel actually does come in different sizes. I believe it's .38mm up to 1.0mm. And sometimes that nostalgia rules all! I've got plenty of pens that aren't great, but i love what they remind me of. Thanks for sharing Dylan!!!
Love the video. I enjoy the Pilot V5 and V7. You also need to try the Zebra Sarasa Gel. The G2 got a new pen body finally. It is called the g2 Edge. Pretty nice
I am so picky about pens and have yet to find one that is just right.😅 Thank you for demonstrating the Pen and Gear, cause I’m cheeeeap, and will probably pick up a pack next time I’m at the ol’ “Mart of Wal.” I love a good fountain pen (makes my chicken scratch handwriting look better!), but I am too cheap to buy a bunch in order to find one that feels just right in my hand.
I'm right there with you!! Once I find a pen I like, it's hard for me to stray from it. I guess I'll have to try a fountain pen one of these days with all that I'm hearing about them! I think I'd be the same way in that they're too pricy for me to get a ton of them🤣
I’ve found that the Uniball Vision Elite has become my favorite sketching pen, but when I went to write for a long while it skipped quite a bit. Pilot Precise V7 / Pilot V5 Rt were recommended to me when making ink only drawings, it comes in both a clicky and a pen cap option. Papermates are nice! overall pilot pens make me so happy Are you a gel or a ballpoint person?
Nice!!! I was given a Profile 1.6mm recently, and I'm a huge fan of it. The thicker line is always a good deal! Also I 100% agree, black ink supremacy🤣🤣🤣
I do love the pilot g2 a lot. Lately I have been using the pilot frixion 07 and I love it. I love it bc it's eraseable. And it erases NICE! A VERY SMOOTH write. The only downside is that it seems to run out faster than others. I use the pen and gear pocket notebooks (3 for a dollar) and didn't get thru a fourth of it without the pen running out of ink. But, to be fair, I used it several times on other notebooks as well.
It seems like Pilot brand in general just knows how to make good pens!!!! That's wild that it runs outta ink that fast, but then it's also good that it erases well, so I'm sure it balances out!🤣
My favorite ball point pen is PaperMate Profile Ball 1.4 in black. I always get them from Staples really cheap, 4 in a pack. Just lovely how it writes.
