Welcome among us :) Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. The orchestra you hear in the background is THE great London Symphony Orchestra. There are two choirs; the adult and children's choirs. Don't ask me how the Nightwish founder, keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, was able to enlist their services. I'm sure some of the longtime NW fans know and will tell you(I would love to know myself!!). All of the background music was recorded to play with the band.

Welcome to the magical world of Nightwish ! Nightwish has been using the London Philharmonic Orchestra or part of it in the background with their studio albums since 2004. Also two different choirs (adults, children) as needed. In live concerts, they play it from the backing tape and perform themselves on top of it. Everything that happens on stage is for telling a story. Fireworks, pyrotechnics, lights, led panels, background music (philharmonic orchestra) and music played by each band member, vocals ... And each song has its own story. And because every story is different, that’s why Nightwish sounds different in every song and within the song there are variations depending on the course of the story.

Nightwish is best live, although their official music videos are very good too. They have a great crew with them. Instrument technicians, sound engineers, pyro technicians, director Ville Lipiäinen... Then you can look for recommendations on further viewing/listening. A few songs in particular will benefit greatly from some experience of and familiarity with Nightwish and their history. It is worth getting an insight into the tour which culminated in this concert and the two other remaining in that tour, and the fact that it was about a month AFTER that when Floor Jansen was announced as the permanent female lead for Nightwish, on 9th Oct 2013. The ones which benefit most from this (and are best saved as a treat for when you know Nightwish better) are The Poet And The Pendulum (Live, Wembley Arena, 2105), The Greatest Show On Earth (Live, Tampere Finland, 2015) and a little research (google Eugene Shoemaker for background), Shoemaker, from their latest album Human || Nature, released earlier this year. So only the official video available on that one, at least so far. Along the way, you will meet Troy Donockly, the 6th member of Nightwish, who is an amazing vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, probably best known for supplying the whistles and Uillean pipes Nightwish use in their more folk rock songs - when you get to The Greatest Show On Earth, look for him providing the third voice in 3 part harmonies, as the cameras only show it in the background. He had been playing with Nightwish for some time and when they announced Floor as a permanent member they also brought him in and, in their words, "made it official".

The music is called symphonic metal and is very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded in 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists 1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005) 2 Anette Olzon (Schwedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012) 3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of. Band members Tuomas Holopainen (The keyboard player and creative mind behind the band. He writes about 95% of the music and lyrics) Marco Hietela (the viking with the long beard (Bass and vocals) Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen Later (2015) replaced by Kai Hahto because of health issues (The drummer) Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (the hobbit like guitar player) Troy Donockley ( a person who did not play on this song but is a multi instrumentalist from the UK) The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. A few songs in particular will benefit greatly from some experience of and familiarity with Nightwish and their history. It is worth getting an insight into the tour which culminated in this concert and the two other remaining in that tour, and the fact that it was about a month AFTER that when Floor Jansen was announced as the permanent female lead for Nightwish, on 9th Oct 2013.
The ones which benefit most from this (and are best saved as a treat for when you know Nightwish better) are The Poet And The Pendulum (Live, Wembley Arena, 2105), The Greatest Show On Earth (Live, Tampere Finland, 2015) and a little research (google Eugene Shoemaker for background), Shoemaker, from their latest album Human || Nature, released earlier this year. So only the official video available on that one, at least so far.
Along the way, you will meet Troy Donockly, the 6th member of Nightwish, who is an amazing vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, probably best known for supplying the whistles and Uillean pipes Nightwish use in their more folk rock songs - when you get to The Greatest Show On Earth, look for him providing the third voice in 3 part harmonies, as the cameras only show it in the background. He had been playing with Nightwish for some time and when they announced Floor as a permanent member they also brought him in and, in their words, "made it official".

If you are looking for great recommendation then give Unleash the Archers a try. Most known song and great to react to is “awakening”. But it’s hard to find bad song in their repertoire. Awesome reaction BTW 👏

The music is called symphonic metal and is very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded in 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists
1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005)
2 Anette Olzon (Schwedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012)
3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of.

Tuomas Holopainen (The keyboard player and creative mind behind the band. He writes about 95% of the music and lyrics)
Marco Hietela (the viking with the long beard (Bass and vocals)
Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen Later (2015) replaced by Kai Hahto because of health issues (The drummer)

Troy Donockley ( a person who did not play on this song but is a multi instrumentalist from the UK)
The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded.
