- Hello everyone! Today I'm going to share with you a little bit about myself. I've never quite done this before, so here it goes: My first contact with WitchCraft. I do hope you enjoy this video and may it be useful and, perhaps, inspiring.

My grandmother raised me and on the outside, she was "Christian". As I began my path towards witchcraft, I for one began to realize, I've always been here and just didn't know it. The second thing I realized was that my grandmother "did things" too. Things that I view as witchcraft. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. I love your videos. You have taught me so much! Granted, you didn't owe anyone an explanation, it was very kind of you to share!
It seems our elders were into some strange stuff, hehe. Where I come from, in particular, surprisingly witchcraft was widely accepted and "normal" until at least the 40s of the past century, but it seems mentalities have greatly changed after WWII. There are particular well-known witches of the late 18th and 19th centuries over here that even appeared on newspapers and were interviewed by Tv reporters, and never in a derogatory sense but actually accepted, and such cunning folk left a considerable amount of apprentices who carried on The Art. But my great grandmother wasn't such a person, not a known one like those others, per say. I would never have considered my own great grandmother to be a witch. I mean, as I said in the video, I don't think she would consider herself to be that too, but indeed the traditional folk magic she performed can clearly be called "Witchcraft". People have been called witches for less lol. It's still very strange to me, especially because it's me. Not that I don't have a hand on traditional folk magic, but it's just that it always seemed to be a reality that has not been this close to me aside from what I already do on my own. I don't know what to think of this. Because of the video, I've received a lot of messages from people who want to help and they have figured it out better than I did. Let's say that what I've gathered today left me more disturbed than before. Thank you very much for your feedback and your supportive worlds. Best wishes to you and yours!
@@ArithHärger This reminded me of something Clif High (who isn't exactly an occultist per say) said - which was that the powers that be seem to want to portray anything of actual spiritual power/significance as kooky, not to be believed or seriously acted upon, etc. Supposedly it's fine to simply observe such things through movies, cartoons, and books, and maybe dabble shallowly as a teenager and then quickly phase out of it, but actually basing one's life or actions around such things (dreams, visions, premonitions, etc) seems to be socially conditioned against in this age that most cannot publicly mention such things without significant backlash, gaslighting, etc. You are permitted to merely view it through the glass of a screen, but direct involvement is strongly discouraged. Clif also has some interesting views about the powers behind the world wars which also ties in the aspect of spiritual vibrancy (and societal freedom of its expression) being suppressed/repressed.
Sarah I have also noticed the same thing more or less - that Christians also do their forms of magic (rituals, prayers, songs, etc) just under the brand of Christian, though the actions themselves (of people of various beliefs) share a belief in the power OF belief via words, rituals, etc. I am not particularly for or against any of those forms of magic (for lack of better word?) - just noting that they seem similar in that light, and I do find it curious and fascinating that people seem inherently drawn to some form of it (whatever works for them, or is most compatible with their beliefs/experiences?) and that it does often seem to have noticeable results, at least depending on the belief/actions of the participants.

In the old Baltic pagan beliefs, especially in Kurland toads where venerated, together with swamp turtles. They were associated with Laima, the faith goddess.
“The wise only speak of what they know”. The problem is when the wise are intimidated to speak of what they know…or the loud and ignorant insistently shout over the wise. I enjoyed what you spoke of at the beginning. Anyone I've ever considered a teacher of mine, is ultimately someone who's words gently guide me back to being able to hear the wisdom of my own soul. I felt like a bunch of us were camped around a fire and you picked up your guitar, played for a bit, and then you shared with us a childhood story, half shrouded in mystery and hazy memories. You are right my dear friend. I often think about all those people who were gone too soon, and all the things they could have shared with the world but it was never possible, either because they died or because they did not have the best opportunities to shine and thrive. But there are also those that come, once in a while, to share really good information and their voice is muffled by shyness, or they are intimidated, or being sensitive and not coping well with people's quick judgment and prejudice. There are wonderful minds out there that don't get to express themselves as it should be, and that makes me sad. I've met people with great potential, but sadly they did not have the best opportunities in life, and it is frustrating not having the power to properly help them. yes exactly that's another reason why i wrote the comment about the cultus sabbati,even if i'm no way an expert of that tradition i cann see the validity of what it points to,which it's the same for every great tradition and order no matter left , right or croocked or narrow it's just a different to the ultimate same truth and realization.

A lot of people seem to have grandparents involved in this. I grew up in a home of Muslim beliefs with my grandparents my aunt, and a wandering witch used to visit. My grandparents had gypsy tattoos that intrigued me. They told of feeding the wandering women who would do readings and hand tattoos with charcoal poking. They remind me now of the druid symbols. Of the wanderer who would come in my time, she read the coffee rinds and candles, made talismans, and other divinatory practices with a muslim tint. This intrigued me very much. I used to be the wanderers favorite and she would praise me and bring me gifts. I learned many wise things in my 6 years abroad. I haven't recalled these events since they happened. I'm glad you shared your story, and inspired me to reminice the days of old. Arith, if you feel comfortable doing so, I would love to hear more of your experiences. I send you love from the usa. Trust me in this as I have had experiences in my life ( since childhood, in fact ) that have taught me this. Trust your first instincts about weird, or unusual, experiences - your first intuition is usually the right one.
I know you would know this, but everyone needs to be reminded of this from time to time.

And then there's my great grandmother who lived to 101 and was wonderful. Be careful about generalization.
I absolutely love your presentation of "PRIVACY". It is of today's highest belief that one can share all and be known by all. This idea is largely true, but often lacks substance. Who deals with information will often go unknown and who deals with the cult of personality can be known, loved, and hated by all. Many blessings for you and those in your private sphere.

Here's an interesting tale from my past of a spiritual encounter that wasn't very pleasant. One night as a teenager i decided to go out and find a place to sleep in my car cause i needed to get out of the house. I parked behind a church, hoping it would be safe there. I climbed into the back with my pillow and blanket, and tried to go to sleep. As soon as i layed down the whole car started rocking side to side, and it felt and sounded like 20 or so people were circling around the car and pushing on it. I had my eyes closed, but it looked like lights were flashing, as the light from a street lamp was being gone in front of over and over by whatever was circling around. And I heard the feet of these things stamping in the grass and leaves around the car.... so of course I went back home... was pretty intense, but not the last spiritual encounter. 👻

That was fascinating, not all dark reclusive entities are malevolent.
I love this. When I was very young, my grandma used to tell us bed time stories from her youth and my favorites involved conjuring the devil. She was from a remote village in the mountains, civilization had not reached it until 40 years ago so the stories were genuine. Power is addictive and when you have as a witch, sometimes you slip and use for evil. In Romania, where i come from, women/ witches went so far as to use the hair of a dead relative to bring harm to a family. The interesting thing here is that this is categorized as common folk knowledge, as something that you do when someone"deserves" to be punished.
Romania still has a lot of the old practices, a lot of them involve herbs and precious metals and all of them require a ritual and incantation. I find it funny that you doubt your memory Arith, just like you said (one year later after you posted this video) the problem with modern sorcerers is that they themselves don't fully believe it.

Thank you so much for sharing, you really don't have to do that. In my experience growing up in a strict Christian family I was moved to a different place to grow up. My family always thought and believed we were Native Americans so I did a DNA test. Turns out my heritage is of Scottish and Welsh decent. I've always felt close to the goddess Diana even being pushed into going to church. I recently moving back to the area where I was born and instead of feeling bad about my beliefs I feel stronger about them. Things happen for good reason. My gratitude for your life story telling.
It's interesting that your family thought they were Native Americans. Your DNA test probably only tells you part of it. Most people who get positive Native American DNA results are actually getting results from a small percentage of Central American Indigenous people and mostly South American Indigenous heritage. There is not a large enough group of North American Native people who have been tested to prove any connections to tribes in the U.S. or Canada. There were early tests run for DNA but once tribes figured out that the results were going to be used for other purposes than for health care like diabetes, etc most tribes unofficially banned DNA testing. There are too many ancestors bones in university drawers in the Anthropology Departments for most Native people to trust DNA companies. Finland (FINLAND!!!) recently agreed to return the human remains of Native people they had been holding onto for decades. Why would Finnish people need Native American human remains? 🤔 So my point is ~ you could possibly have had an ancestor who was from one of the tribes in the area. Many of the Scottish immigrants married into the tribes around Appalachia. I have close family friends in the Midwest who did their genealogy and discovered a Native woman in old family pictures. They had thought they were Scotch-Irish and German. Most people in the old days hid their Native heritage because Native people had no rights and their children were taken away to residential schools whether or not they had a white or black parent besides the Native parent. The Five Civilized Tribes in the southeast USA were called that because they accepted Christianity. The ones who didn't ran off and kept to their ceremonies. Many tribes who had members die from disease and land dispossession, joined up with the Creek Confederacy including the Natchez and Hitichiti. My in-laws are descended from those people. They were considered Uncivilized and they blended in with other runaways who didn't stay with the tribe when they were removed to Oklahoma. If you know your genealogy and can trace it far enough then you might be able to find your Native relatives if you have any. Some non-native people like the current governor of Oklahoma paid to get listed on the Dawes rolls (census of Native American people) so they could get free land. Elizabeth Warren's family also paid to get land but weren't on the official rolls. Usually if there are rumors about family heritage, then there is some basis for it.

Perhaps you will have some more encounters soon. It's a fallacy of the current cultures that "to know something" you only need to have a clear explanation of it. We grow and learn thru experiences: zen priests are constantly belittling students and others who insist on having an explanation for everything. The music is very good too. :)
I'm from Brazil and here our experiences with witchcraft are very different, but some similarities remain and these are indicative, perhaps, of something common to everyone on earth. We have in Brazil some witchcraft related to toad, but this one you reported never heard before. As for the dead toad being a fairy gift, as your grandmother said, I believe she was somehow giving back or returning this gift in the forest. About the strange and black figure in the river is something I have never heard before, but perhaps this figure would be representing the incarnate representation of the forest invoked by the reception of the reciprocated gift, in this case the frog bones. I loved how this story was told, full of meaning. I thought it was really cool to share this story with us.
Not to idolize, but I do appreciate your work. Still... I always enjoy stories of strangeness, so I also appreciate this glimpse into your life.
The thing about the toad bone, or something floating against the stream sounds familiar. I can't remember where I heard about it though. As for the figure in black... very curious.

Thanks for this video, it takes courage to speak about oneself in a world full of people showing themselves as fishes in an aquarium, and more courage in trying to dig in the past and in old traumas, trying to distinguish episodes that happened from images that the brain produced for whatever reason. I don't want to idolatrize you, but I feel proud of your efforts. You truly are a living example of what it means to constantly try to get better.
About the toad, it reminded me of a thing that I've read many times. If you find a dead toad or a frog, you need to put it on and anthill until it's clean, then search the bones for two peculiarly shaped ones, one looking kinda heart like, another shaped as a hook. I don't want to put how they're used here; still, there is no river or stream involved, so it's probably something different.

This was such an unexpected, yet absolutely wonderful video. It was really cool of you to share a story like this with everyone, especially since that is not something that you ever really planned on doing. I also had a childhood experience with what I would refer to as witchcraft. It didn't have anything to do with toads or anything, so I unfortunately cannot try to help yo solve your mystery there, but it was sonething that always went with me throughout my life and always made me wonder and rethink things. A few years ago, I did happen to come across a scientifically tested and proven reason for what I had experienced, so I no longer have this dark veil of what ifs and other questions following me around in the back of my mind, but I definietly know what it is like to grow up having experienced something like this and always wondering. I definitely respect your privacy and would understand if this were a one time thing, but it would definitely be interesting to hear any other stories like this that you may have had. I think it woudl be fascinated just to hear more about what it was like to grow up in a village like that, even if no witchdraft and magic were involved. Thanks so much for sharing, Arith. My mother is of British descent and was raised Christian but she also taught me a lot of “strange” things, like healing things on my body with just my own hands. The weird thing about making videos about ourselves is that we are always changing, we change opinions and live new things, i unlisted almost all my videos because i don't identify myself with the 1 year ago me for exemple. This seems to be a skill that is sadly lacking these days. But I’m an old lady of 52 years and I think differently.
I value your input and point of view, while still evaluating what I think about it. Uncovering our traumatic past is a long and difficult journey, but can give you a sense of peace once able to see it more clearly.
You are a strong, brave man for delving into what I have heard referred to as shadow work. Where we do the best we can to drag the shadows from our past, out into the light so that we can more clearly see them for what they are.
Sometimes these things surprise us as we find out that they are not as we originally believed, some have been more harmful than we knew while others may have been less harmful than originally thought.
We won’t know for sure until we get them into the light. Be strong, be brave, trust those you feel closest to for help and support where needed, but don’t ever doubt that you are good enough.

My first contact with "Witchcraft" was when i prayed to 'Baron Samedi' and got a vision and a horrible nightmare days after, Blessed Be.
My grandfather befriended a panther (or some big cat), living in Argentina, and one day it attacked someone who was riding a horse. His father killed it and forced him to eat a meal of the animal 😭 it is so rough out there and Christianity is so often weaponised to control and harm. I appreciate your authenticity and I would love to see more of this type of video in the future, but only if it feels right with you and your values 🧿

Eventually someone reminds you of a similar event.
Connecting the dots is pretty magical itself. I am sure we all have those moments of enlightenment where we are like;

Ah I see why I had to get my heart broken so bad…! 🕵🏽♂️
And so on.
Thank you for sharing this part of yourself and your story. Doing so, especially in this social media environment, can make you feel vulnerable to criticism. Your story reminds me of my grandmother. I was always in awe of her. She came from a different time and place. Having lived in an isolated rural area without modern amenities for most of her life. I was very young and I remember her killing a big bull snake who was stealing her chicken eggs. She carefully hung the dead snake over a fence. Later I found out that she did that to predict the weather. I still don't understand how. She knew about plants and where to find them at certain times of the year. She made a poltis and put it on a burn I had. She was always stern and didn't seem to have any soft edges but I always felt safe with her.

Arith, this was so interesting. Your great grandmother performed what is called in the some of the British folk magic the Toad Bone Rite by all intents from listening to the description of what you experienced and as you later found out. It is so interesting how our ancestors "gift"us with insights into these practices. My grandmother was very Christian but there were certain sayings and things that you did or were not allowed to do in her home - which I put down to superstitions. When I was able to study Irish Magic a lot of those practices were there and made sense. Oddly my grandmother comes from Cornwall not Ireland but I've not done my dna tests yet. Ignore the gossips... your video was inspiring.
Your whole video was a pure pleasure, thank you for that. Your description of your childhood is not very dissimilar to rural Ireland decades ago... Minus mountains and forest. Your saying that harsh people makes for harsh land is deeply profound and true. I'm not one for dark entities, but I have felt deep fear in the preliminaries to meeting otherworldly guides, who present the (sacred and benevolent) gift behind the pain. Water now speaks clearly to me, and light beings come from it with healing. You are a deep, intelligent, kind and brave soul. It seems to me that you were gifted greatly regardless of the fear.

I like this guy's perspective about Natural and Old belief systems on the cultural and anthropological point of view. I don't like Bible thumping cookie cutter preachers who thinks that they know and got the answer for everything. This man just shares what he learned from other aspects of beliefs and life in nature.

"In the 19th century, a ritual known as the toad bone rite became popular, particularly in East Anglia but also in other areas of the country, amongst both cunning folk and members of magical organizations such as the Scottish Society of the Horseman's Word and the East Anglian Society of Horsemen. Originally based upon an ancient southern European magical practice documented by Pliny, it had later been purported in the works of Cornelius Agrippa and Reginald Scot, which were read by several literate cunning folk.
Although there were many variations, the ritual typically involved the killing of a toad or frog, having its flesh stripped from the bones by ants, and then throwing the bone into a stream at night. It was believed that this would grant the practitioner, who was known as a Toad Man, the ability to perform certain magical tasks."

I definitely know what it's like in the country. I was raised with farm life on my family farm. People don't realize how dark, and quiet, it is out in the country.
My advice is to follow your intuition. It's one of the most powerful things we have. I think you saw what you say. You sound exactly like someone who did see something otherworldly. These words about whether you really saw it, etc...
The very way the entire thing is so difficult to make sense of is the best evidence that something did actually happen. You wouldn't be struggling to piece this together if the event was Mundane and nothing strange happened. I've always had one foot in the other side and this story is exactly how this usually sounds. Something certainly happened. You're frozen in that night.

I have my own strange encounter from my youth which baffles me ever since.
Toad magic is also popular in Cornwall. Something I have read myself, the books of Gemma Gary might be interesting for you. "The Black Toad" talks about the magic of the West Country of Cornwall.

It's quite possible, I'm Irish and we will still refer to the fairies. Like making sure to leave some berries for the fairies when harvesting or if you've lost something out in nature twas the fairies . . . Makes me curious myself to look for anything to do with toads but so far my understanding of witchcraft in Ireland was never called witchcraft. We have stories of curses and traditions to keep us safe from them but Ireland didn't really have much witch trials when it was rampant through Europe, the culture here I believe was not afraid of the otherworld and the goings on of things unseen. We honoured it but with care as we knew not to disturb the fairies.
We also have a myth of of the 'will of the wisp' which was seeing glowing lights or figures on your walk home in the dark. Was said to be related to the fairies. What I later found out was that decaying animal corpses in the forest can give off bioluminescent gas which made me think of your glowing frogs bones but that's just an interesting speculation.

First time I did lunar Magic in August of 2014 on a night similar to what you described. I experienced a blk hooded man in the distance watching and thought it was all apart of my mind. And when I saw this figure in the distance it startled me. I was trying to be secretive and waited till everyone was asleep. But I decided to walk bk to my home ,I was near edge of woods, I was scared and confused so I pretend not to see it. Mind you they where standing under or near street light in my yard in the middle of my path to home and Mostly the middle of nowhere in rural Mississippi. Neighbors at least 200 yards away. As I quickly walked in with fear I pretended not to see them. I opened my door still feeling fear and being watched ,I started to close the door and behind me I saw and felt a flash of light. And things began to change for me . Mostly bad at first for the following 3 years but it was of my own doing then. So I was never sure the reason. Point is I've talked to many and very few in my neck of the Bible thumping woods have ever experienced anything similar. Thank you for sharing your story . Nice to know I'm not alone . Funny thing is now if I saw this again I wouldn't be as afraid as before I'd actually have questions for them.

Also, I just looked up the frog in Hungarian lore and found a custom recorded by ethnographer Éva Pócs (Magyar Ráolvasások I., 1985, pg 69). Rough translation: "A love spell. A girl shall place a green frog upon an anthill; on the third day the desired man shall be ointed with the bones. The following must be recited: he shall find no peace / as that frog didn't find peace on top of the anthill." Probably very much unrelated to your story though :D

I like hearing about your talks about your family and your experience. While my German grandmother was still alive she always told me about Genetic or cell memories like when I craved some certain food from Germany or Norway that was only from that area that I have never had. She had a certain feeling about me because one I never went to church or I refused to go. Or I would try to make certain things I would ask for or about. She passed away before she got to say any more .
Listening to this type of stories from someone who thinks from many sides is like a breath of fresh air. I would love to hear some more.
