    What's good Chase! Riding a Duc will always take time to get used to, cuz those bikes are torque monsters! It can get choppy if you are not used to blending the clutch and throttle or chance the front sprocket. Also, I made sure I pick up the true sound of the monster on my vids, so viewers can have a real good understanding. Good vid man!

      Soul is the right thing, Ducatis have so much personality, I would love to see him ride an old air-cooled one and see what he thinks of it, they're so much better.

    • @MargusMoto
      @MargusMoto 7 лет назад +1

      I figure, what is better is a lot determined by where do you come from.. Us fresh riders probably find it hard to understand what everyone found so incredible in those old moody, heavy, and hard to control machines of the old.. But I must honestly say, before I have properly ridden one myself I will not judge any bike.

    • @ckboy023
      @ckboy023 7 лет назад +1

      What I mean by better is that everything people seem to rave about on Ducatis, old Monsters have more of, and my S2R doesn't have any low down torque/having to rev it to be fun problems, also it can do u turns and is a single sided swing arm bike

    My 2013 Ducati Monster 696 is so awesome! The mirrors suck (replaced) but everything else is great! so much torque and so much fun. It's my daily commuter. The engine sounds so delicious

  • @JosephCoffell

  • @pinto246

    I laughed when you said it's got that "something ". I have a monster 796 and that why I bought it. It shifts hard with tons of false neutrals, it doesn't like going slow, no wind protection but my god does it make you smile. And if you took it to the mountains you would love it as long as you rode it hard.

    I have one after 3yrs on a Ducati sixty2 scrambler, progressed to a big bike!
    2 weeks in. At the 1st ride, omg I’d made a mistake “got to sell it , too tall too heavy for little ole me at 5.4” but now its got its lowered seat I’m beginning to love it.
    & The big tank is great for a rest and regain composure at the lights!
    I do need a little more confidence on cornering and undulating roads, as I feel the steering is being snatched from me, oppose to the scam where I felt like I was in charge … early days but I hope I stick with it !

  • @RogueMogul
    @RogueMogul 7 лет назад +1

    For the single sided swingarm you would have to swing for the Monster1200, it does look amazing though. Also, false neutrals between 5th and 6th happen every so often on Ducatis. One other thing, the 821 motor loves high revs, so while it does have a decent bit of torque down low, it really comes alive once you get up to 6k rpm and above.

  • @gflinski

    I own this bike and love it. Almost all the quirks he says the bike has I agree with. I still love the bike. I don't regret buying it one bit. I got used to the turn signals and ergonomics of the foot position and the hard shifting. The shifting actually took me a bit to get used to but now I know how it acts. Its honestly what you are used to and the more you ride anything, the more it becomes natural. Love my Monster!

  • @JaretCampisi
    @JaretCampisi 7 лет назад +22

    Great video Chase! I actually agree with you regarding that "certain thing you can't quite describe about a Ducati." I think it has to do with the fact that the bikes are really built to be a piece of art. The engines are unique, and it has that Italian passion that really shines through with the feel and the ride of the bike. I'm going to be taking out a Monster for a first ride this weekend so it will be interesting to see how I feel compared to your review. Great work as always :)

    lol my 696 pops out of gear relatively often. 4th->5th or 5th->6th it happens pretty often. Gotta give 'er a good kick. Sucks though shifting up to 6th it doesn't have much feedback at all so it's hard to know... Happens on the way down too sometimes... 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are good but the other three gears sometimes have a mind of their own. From what I've read though that's just a Ducati thing. I've learned to live with it although I've had a few pucker moments trying to get around cars and it jumps out of gear when I snap down into 4th.
    You're right about one thing for sure: The Monsters beg to be ridden hard. Ride it slow and it will punish you for it.

  • @phatsmitty

    14:45 to 14:55 - it is the Monster factor, it has been with that model ever since the introduction in 1993. "It" is something that many other manufacturers have tried to emulate. I owned a 1996 750, I know what I'm talking about.

    Chase! I'm kinda surprised you don't like the transmission/clutch. I've gotten a lot of seat time on a 2000 Ducati Monster M900Sie, and the trans/clutch is an absolute dream. Butter smooth, positive shifts, clutch that bites strong but won't surprise you. Beats every new bike I've ridden. Hope Duc didn't ruin the new gen Monster. You ought to ride an M900 some time!

    Question for the next Q&A on moto mumble- if you let a friend ride your bike and he wrecks who pays to fix it? I'd love to hear y'alls thoughts. Going through this right now....awkward situation to say the least.

    • @iGoVroomVroom
      @iGoVroomVroom 7 лет назад +1

      If they're an actual friend, they'd pay for it. It's like what Han said in Tokyo Drift, "I have money, it's trust and character I need around me. You know, who you choose to be around you lets you know who you are. One car in exchange for knowing what a man's made of? That's a price I can live with."

      you're gonna wanna hop into the live stream so they might see the question.
      But if your bike is insured your insurance should cover at least some of the damages, but if you don't want to get insurance involved, or it makes you insurance goes up in cost, your friend should pay for the damages if they wrecked the bike. Also depends on the wreck, was it his fault or did someone else cause the wreck?

    Chase, the only way I think you could record a Ducati well, is get a sound studio mic, like a 'Sure' and throw a wind sock on it, or get something like 1 of the Rode directional mics, which pick up outdoor sounds really well without too much background noise! Good luck man! As for Ducati, I actually liked the 09+ Monster's better for the exhaust position being away from the leg.

    I've also noticed the Monster line doesn't have a good turning radius. It's the same with my S2R. Getting into false neutral happens easily too. You have to commit into shifting up or down a complete solid click. Try to halfa** it to shift faster just isn't gonna fly.

    The "Little lines" on the fuel tanks are for expansion. That's why the filler has a neck. Usually.

    9:15 : false neutral* it happens to me all the time during the 600mile/1000km run-in, and still happens to me occasionally if I do not kick harder when changing gear from 5 to 6. often freaks me out especially on highway but have gotten used to it since, just clutch in again and gear up.

      TechSoldierOfficial isn’t that a Yamaha? I’ve seen a orange one I fell in love with. Im thinking my next bike would be a monster, an Indian or bmw scrambler.

      TechSoldierOfficial yeah I was talking about that one, and the one I fell in love with was the Yamaha MT-09 an orange one. Yeah that could be another option for naked ones since Yamaha it’s one of my favorite brand along with Ducati.

      I think street triple is a much all around better bike. But there is something with Ducati that you can't explain. I ended up buying a 2016 821 monster. I've never been so attached to a bike in my life. That and my 2006 fz6

    I have a Cagiva (it's a daughter company of Ducati). Grtting into neutral on the Cagiva is hard too

  • @Twinspinner

    My Ninja 250 had false neutrals occasionally too, but I'd never expect the kind of transmission kinks that bike has to be on such a higher end bike

    At 9 minutes in Chase demonstrates the wonders of the false neutral. Shifting gears on Ducatis requires you to SHIFT GEARS like you mean it. A toe on the shifter nearly guarantees a false neutral. Luckily you can just pull the clutch and shift again, just do it like you should have the first time.

    Hey Chase, I know you give feed back as to if your feet touch the ground, and overall fit, but you can remind people in your videos your dimensions? i.e, I'm 5'9", 31" inseam, and there is a few bikes I don't feel confident sitting at a red light with.

      Edward Armstrong Yep. Triumphs have a very respectable heritage that includes performance, refinement and style, without being overstated. A lot of experienced riders and purists end up on Triumphs, which is saying a lot.

    Best Chassis/suspension -
    Best Brake feel -

      Sadly I wish I could make an entire video with all three bikes covering that. Since I'm currently not able to do that I'll just answer here:
      In slow, third world traffic - Z800
      For engine refinement - FZ-09
      Best Chassis/suspension - Monster 821
      Best Brake feel - Monster 821
      Best overall - FZ-09/Monster 821 (sorry can't decide)
