Remember Penrith well, the up platform has a bit of a climb to board the train due to the superelevation of the track 🤣

DVTs arrived shortly after and that was it for my interest in the WCML.......
Is it just me or was 26010 and 26040 omni-present at Carlisle?

Class 26 was interesting, pretty sure that was as far south that this class ventured

Someone else posted that 26 010 was a regular there. I can’t comment, I think this occasion was the only time I saw a 26 at Carlisle anyway 😄.

86401 a long way from Northampton again! 😂
Carlisle Citadel looks a bit cleaner now, though there's a noticeable lack of vegetation growing on the tracks.
31 with three coaches, would that have been a train from Leeds?

Likely the Newcastle, 31264 was Thornaby allocated at time despite her old March hare depot motif, yet to gain the TE kingfishers. 47425 and 47477 probably the Leeds services mate.

From what I can remember from the day (35 years ago) and my notes, I agree: 31 on the Newcastle trains and the 47s were on the Leeds service. 😊
