    As a few people are interested - I’m Mark the designer of the reinforcement parts Paul bought and used on his Playseat Challenge during this review. We design and make all the Indigo Lime parts ourselves - I don’t think I can put a link here but there is one in the list of equipment for this video. We currently have bundle offers and are always happy to help with specific setups - we can be contacted through our website.

    I've had my CSL DD for 4 days now and I also previously had a CSW 2.5. To me the difference is night and day. The control is so precise with the CSL DD. 8nm is just fine. In fact I've had to turn mine down just a little on F1 2021.

      I’ve read a ton of stuff about comparing the csl 2.5 to the csl dd and it seems to be pretty split. Some people are mind blown and some people feel meh about it. I just picked up a csl 2.5 for super cheap and I’m happy with it but it has a slight amount of graininess that keeps reminding me that it’s belt driven what are you’re thoughts about the dd?

    • @Jezza819
      @Jezza819 2 года назад

      @@David-ym2vk I think graininess is a good description of the CSW 2.5. On start up you can hear even hear it with that slight grinding noise as the wheel rotates back and forth. With the CSW 2.5 you can feel the belt drive slightly even with less FFB on certain games. It has a little rough feel as you steer back and forth. But with the DD I don't feel anything like that. It's totally smooth. Now I've got a Xbox Series X with only two games loaded on it, F1 2021 and Assetto Corsa Competizione. Both are running FFB at about 70% and the FFB is all I feel. Nothing extra coming from the wheel, no noise from the fans, no grainy feel, totally smooth.

      I would stronlgy recommend a 80/20 alu rig for any DD wheel (or any other wheel tbh). The flex of the lesser rigs will cause additional FFB damping and it won't feel as good as it should.

    My DD will come around november 25th. Using the Challenge also. Only getting the 5nm version for starters as I didn't think the playseat would handle the torque well. Kinda regretting that now but I could always upgrade down the line.
    Thinking about getting the same stability mod so i'm looking forward to your video about it. It seems like it really needs a mod given how far back you have to mount it relative to the support beam which must introduce extra up-and-down play? Kinda sucks that I live in Sweden and will have to deal with Brexit tax and additional customs handling...

    • @TonyStone3000
      @TonyStone3000 2 года назад +2

      @@David-ym2vk My thoughts? If you have a Clubsport 2.5 (it isn't a CSL 2.5, more on that later), keep using it and not get a CSL DD. I'm thinking about doing a video demonstrating how weak the FF is. You can hold the wheel with your index finger and thumb while clipping and still steer. And to be honest, I wasn't blown away by the detail. I've watched tons of youtube videos where the RUclipsr claimed he felt something that he never felt before. They acted all blown away. They must have been coming from a Logitech G29 to have that impression. Because I didn't feel any different detail, This is where I've realized that there are only a few honest RUclipsrs left. The rest of them will downplay or completely put on an act. The CSL offers about the same detail IMO as the ClubSport 2.5, nothing more that I can distinguish. RUclipsrs seem to have a level of hand braille that I do not seem to possess. Before I get on to the next paragraph, where I expose the dishonesty, I'd like to say that I enjoy the wheel. Although I'm not getting the heavy G-Loading like my Clubsport 2.5, it is still an enjoyable experience. It operates quietly. My Clubsport's fans would get loud at times. So it is good to have a silent wheel. Would I get the wheel knowing what I do now as an "upgrade" to Clubsport? I probably would because I had some expendable cash at the time, but anyone on a tight budget should keep their Clubsport 2.5. it isn't that big of a deal IMO, (and if it is, then the DD wheels that costs upwards of $1k+ are a ripoff (more about that in the next paragraph). The CSL DD is a "CSL" it stands for "ClubSportLight". The Clubsport 2.5 is a "Clubsport." The Clubsport series is a higher series than the "CSL" or "CSL Elite" series. So it seems that the CSL DD was never designed to be better than the Clubsport, or they would have given it a higher designation. It's the youtubers that turned it into a 100% solid upgrade; it isn't. Not over the Clubsport 2.5.
      Now back to the entire DD market and RUclipsrs dishonesty. I watched tons of videos about the CSL DD. Almost every one of the reviewers claimed that the CSL offers the same detail as the more expensive DD wheels but not the strength. I should have realized that something was strange with that statement because the CSL DD cost $500 (with boost kit), and the other DD wheels cost $1500 and upwards (including Fanatac's own DD1/DD2). Some are in the $2k+ range. Now, if all that is different from the CSL DD and the more expensive wheels is strength, does that sound like something that would justify prices 2 and 3 times more than the CSL DD? Even the youtubers that were semi-honest said that the CSL DD needs some more strength (even with boost pack) but not that far off from the more expensive DD wheels. The CSL DD needs more FF strength, but I cannot imagine a wheel being so strong to the point where it justifies three times the price over the CSL DD. There isn't too much area left between the strength of, say, a Clubsport 2.5 and not even being able to hold on to the wheel at all. So either you are paying for power that you will never use with the more expensive DD wheels, or theirs way more of a difference between the CSL DD and the more expensive DD wheels. I think the more expensive DD wheels are overpriced and do not offer what the price levels should suggest. I see youtubers replacing their more expensive DD wheels with the CSL DD. This tells me that the more costly wheels offer more power but not to the point where you would need that power level, but you still pay for it. The CSL DD is good enough even with the reduced FF strength. But the Clubsport offers more power than the CSL DD, and I cannot tell the difference in detail. So if you are OK with some fan noise, keep the Clubsport 2.5. The CSL DD isn't an upgrade. It's a downgrade when it comes to FF strength.

      @@TonyStone3000
      Wow. What an answer! Thanks for being so thorough. I just realized I’ve been mistakenly calling my clubsport 2.5 a csl 2.5. You’re thoughts are along the same lines as what I’ve been thinking. Most of the videos on RUclips are of people who are coming from a Logitech g29/920 and are blown away with the different in quality, which I can see why. The others have been sim racing for a while and have already been using an upper level dd wheelbase. So going down from a dd1 to the dd, I think they’re pleasantly surprised with the ff and quality and that gets overstated in their videos.
      On paper, the clubsport 2.5 has similar specs so the csl dd shouldn’t be considered an upgrade as some people make it out to be. More of a lateral means of getting a dd wheelbase that doesn’t cost you an arm or leg. There are some additional tuning options for the csl dd but I can’t imagine them making the difference. However, I have read that the dd1 was crap when it came out and with consistent firmware updates, it really brought it back from the brink to be a wheelbase that people generally speak well of. Considering they’re just a motor with a control board loaded with proprietary software goes to show the level of mark up on them. I’ve noticed most people that start off with fanatec and end up with simucube. Makes me wonder if the main difference between the dd wheel bases is the software behind it.

      Not putting down the csl dd…. I thoroughly believe that it is the most important product in sim racing in a decade. However, the massively better dynamic range of tha dd1 really does make all the difference in truly emulating the steering forces of a real car.

    Paying that much attention to the iRacing feedback meter is a mistake, IMO. Because using iRFFB, I get a much stronger overall feel than my CSW. iRacing is based on its own engine and YOU set the strength in the game. So it doesn't actually know what is really clipping.

      Definitively. I had a T300RS with CS V3 pedals paying mainly at Assetto Corsa and Aiologs shifter. Had recently received and installed the CSL DD with booster kit (mandatory) with the 918 RSR wheel. only using the paddles until installation of shifter Q 1.5, I'm deeply rediscovering the pleasure to drive on AC. Was using the T300 for 1 years and it was pretty pleasant but after 2-3 hours with the DD as to feel it and finding some convenient set-up, it is really much better. The CSL DD giving better information on the wheel, quicker, more detailed, more reactive. The major prob, after installation is to find a correct setting for the base via the tuning advance menu and in AC (Content Manager FFB setting) as to select the right balance, the right set-up to feel the cars. Some other post are already providing some set-up advice. Thats a good start then up to each to increase or decrease some. Even the Fanatec pedals feel more precise especially the breaking (I haven't changed any set-up for the pedals. I just kept the default ones)

      So the CSL DD here is compatible with Xbox, but not PS. For PS you need a CSL DD Pro. I think the CSL DD Pro will work with Xbox if it's combined with a compatible wheel (Mclaren wheel I think is!). Look for gran-turismo-dd-pro bundle on Fanatec site. It includes pedals, wheel base, wheel rim for Playstation (buy an Xbox compatible wheel for Xbox mode). Then you just need a shifter (Fanatec sell a good one). For rig, I use playseat challenge so you can fold it up, but Trak Racer make good ones - TR8 for example. TV up to you - something 4k with a low ms response time.
