Dude. You grew up in the wrong era where musicianship was at its peak. Artists learned to play their own instruments from their souls. SRV was no exception. Bands like this had to play gig after gig after gig to get themselves recognized. Stevie’s huge hands overpower the guitar. Never seen anyone do it like him. G.O.A.T.

A great musician surrounds themself with other great musicians. Stevie was a mostly self taught guitar player, he would listen to things other musicians had recorded on multi track systems and figure out how to do it himself with no mixing.

Tommy Shannon on bass, Chris Layton on drums, Reece Wynans on keyboards. Very tight band. I love the intro where they add in long pauses, then come back in precisely together. They were obviously in synch with each other. SRV gets all the love (deservedly) but the rest of the band was also outstanding.

Ha, fun reaction man - you are an authentic guy - dude it is a REE-diculous performance - hard not to get into that. The guy on the keys is Reese Wynans - he joined as the 4th member of Double Trouble (with Stevie, Tommy Shannon on Bass, and Chris Layton on Drums) in 1985, 2 years after their big time break through and debut album "Texas Flood." This performance.... man - they are all so insane - but Stevie's rhythm guitar work - he mutes the strings like no other and has this Texas Blues circular strumming motion going - it is the pure FUNK! I dare say aside from all else he can do this is elite 'nobody else' level stuff - nah, no one touches him and its easy to overlook as he makes it cry and wail and bends notes but I love when he gets funky on the rhythm! Hard to miss on this one! The main riff of the song is sick and hard as s%&t to play. Love you sticking with SRV big time - its awesome man. You want another one that'll wreck you watch him go acoustic with a 12 string (so hard to play but surprise surprise - not so much for Stevie) "Rude Mood" live on MTV Unplugged.
