Stevie was a really kind and caring man at the same time, my grandma used to watch Stevie and his brother Jimmy whenever they were younger and whenever he got famous we went to a show and he reconnected with her and sent her a check in the mail one day to pay off her house. What a great soul he was.
Side note: the "wah-wah" pedal he was steppin on in the beginning of the song was given to him by Jimi Hendrix's family, and that very pedal was the one Hendrix used on stage...true story...SVR is the G.O.A.T....
It is Jimi's wah, but he got it from his brother, Jimmie, who opened for Jimi as a teen with Chessmen, I believe. Jimi broke his, borrowed Jimmie's, broke that one. Gave him another and some cash. Jimmie speaks of it often in interviews and it is included in Stevie's biographies.
Nice. When I saw Stevie in the '80s, I figured his renditions of Voodoo Child and Little Wing were as close as I was going to get to seeing Hendrix live, since obviously, Jimi was already gone. But a little closer still if some of those notes were passing through Jimi's wah pedal on the way to the amplifier and my ears!
I saw him live 4 times, smallish clubs where I was up close... maybe 10 to 15 feet away. He was truly transported into his music, taking us along for an incredible ride. He died much too young.

SRV: cat in the hat with the 59 Strat. Best guitarist ever on the planet. It’s so sad that he gets sober and is playing his best music and singing, with his most beautiful voice right before his horrific helicopter crash in 90. WE MISS YOU. His gravestone says his famous words: “Thank you for all the love you passed our way.” Rest in peace, my guitar hero.❤️🩹RIP SRV🎸
little fact stevie passed away in a helicopter crash, my father my uncle, and a few of my dads friends got to see him at his last concert which in fact was at alpine valley music theatre, you guys checking him out brought back good memories, and you guys appreciating his talent and music was so awesome to see! not many of our generation, i'm 37 btw, appreciate that talent now a days so it's awesome to see his music living on for our generation.
Stevie Ray crosses back and forth between Blues and Rock to the point he's pretty much his own genre. All the kings of blues guitar pay him respect and he was friends with most of the best. He's one of those guys that were so good at something you knew God would take him early.
Stevie Ray will always be my favorite guitarist. He is simply the best. Texas flood from live at the El Macombo is literally the greatest guitar playing ever filmed. Ever. The dude literally plays a face shredding, mind blowing solo, behind his God damn back! He is the greatest live musician to have ever done it. BB King has played with him, and this is what he said: " I've always said that playing the blues is like having to be black twice. Stevie Ray missed on both counts, but I've never noticed, and neither did he!" You should also check out "tin pan alley", played with Johnny Copeland. Literally the greatest blues rock guitarist of all time.
I KNEW I wouldn't be the only one to suggest that particular performance of Texas Flood. Little Wing from same show is also killer. And Lenny (song he wrote for his wife).
SVR didn't just play guitar, he channeled music through it! He was like no other and he is missed. Thank goodness his genius was recorded so we can listen to him forever!
Not only is SRV is one of the best guitarists ever, he is one of the most admired. He didn't like being compared to Hendrix, saying in an interview once, "there will only be one Hendrix, and that he simply did his best to play like him." Check out "Stevie Ray Vaughan & Jeff Healey - Look at Little Sister"
His older brother, himself a talented guitar player for The Fabulous Thunderbirds, once said, "Stevie Ray plays guitar like he's breaking out of prison"! I enjoyed watching y'all rock out! 😎🤘
That's not true. Stevie's brother Jimmie, was playing a gig with Hendrix and Hendrix's pedal broke and Jimmie Vaughan gave Hendrix his pedal and took Hendrix's broken pedal home (plus $50) and gave the pedal to Stevie. And yes, SRV is the GOAT.
@@ZZZ7773 Jimi was amazing and by far one of the greatest guitar players ever. And without him Stevie would’ve never been the guitar player he was. But Stevie did everything Jimi and more but better, tighter and cleaner. He is by far a better technical player than Jimi. Although this is down to personal opinion. Not dissing you at all. Jimi is fucking awesome
Man I remember leaving his concert and he played for about 2 hours and my ass was worn out from nonstop jammin. I was 3rd row and he broke a string mid song and a verse later he held a note for about 20 seconds while switching guitars and then continued killin it…..
That the concert where they recorded the break and swap over? Apparently breakages weren't uncommon because of the tension he used on the heavier strings he preferred to use.

Tommy Shannon was a great bass player, but you can always see him watching Stevie Ray in amazement. Even he was blown away by him and he did this every night on stage next to him!
Can't say anything about Stevie that hasn't been said already. But would like to give a nod to his band. They often get overlooked , but they were a crucial part of what let Stevie be Stevie. They are straight up rock solid killers . Stevie pretty much never did the same thing twice , a lot of improv and they could follow him wherever he went , on the fly , and still hold it all together. And these Cats played this hard during SOUNDCHECK! You can look it up. All in, all the time.
Saw him right before his death. He wore a purple satin suit with a huge purple feather in his hat. One of the most talented GOATs. It was a spiritual experience for sure.
Srv is a texas blues legend. He helped revitalize blues in the 80's. Srv was inspired by Hendrix (amongst other blues legends), they never got to play together, but Stevie covered a lot of his songs and made them his own. He died in a helicopter crash, after a concert in Alpine Valley, Colorado. You guys should check out his live version of "Ain't Gonna Give up on Love". I think there is a show he did in NJ after he got sober. It is so powerful it brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. Keep up the great work!
He’s considered one of the best if not the best guitarist of all-time. Jimi Handrix was Stevie’s favorite musician. Crazy part is nobody ever taught Stevie how to play. He was 110% self taught. He has many, many songs that were hits on the radio.
@@richardj9016 He is in that conversation as much as anyone is. I have no idea how you go about deciding who the greatest is. At some point you just have peoples favorite. But to say all Stevie did is play Hendrix parts is just stupid. Jimi was obviously a huge influence, but he played lots music that was his own.
Gentleman, there is so much for you to study about who Stevie was as a person, musician, performer and friend to many who who's life touched us as a comet in its full intensity that shined so bright until he went to another solar system, the legend!
You ain't seen nothin' yet, til you see SRV play with his teeth, behind his back or under his leg. I had the privilege of seeing him a year before he died at the University of Tennessee old Alumni Gym. OMG best venue and awesome concert with 3 encores!! LOVE me some Stevie Ray for sure. Thanks guys ❤️ 🎸
Man played so well, most people never even realised how good his voice was. And fellers, it pains me to say this to you but this is Blues. Buddy Guy, BB King and even John Lee Hooker all thought he was amazing, though HE worshipped THEM. There's a great in instrumental he did called "SayWHAT?" that he did for a sound check that's worth a look. If you want to see a seriously amazing guitar player though, look up my countryman Tommy Emmanuel playing Classical Gas.
@@enyazogd5325 It’s an opinion, but I’d rate it a lot higher than mediocre. It probably would have been better if he hadn’t swallowed all that cocaine laced whiskey though.
I can't even count how many times I've heard this song and I react the same every time. His talent is off the charts. The man was a phenomenal artist .
Saw him live at the Waterworks in Waco in the late 70’s. Little place. He blew the walls out. It was amazing! An iconic talent gone way to soon, just as his career was taking off. I still get goosebumps whenever his songs come on. He could play behind his back, too. At one point, he left the bar and went out one door, still playing, went around the building and came in the side door, right where I was sitting. It was epic!
Blues was before rock, but Stevie was his own beast. Most of us consider him Texas Blues, or just blues. He has been so influential. I’m happy to see ya’ll appreciate him and his amazing playing and showmanship. Loved the reaction.
Stevie's genre was known as "Texas Blues". Almost forgotten after Johnny Winter. But he and his brother brought it back. Jimmy being the eldest, but Stevie surpassed him in skill and became a legend. I was listening to an interview from England by Eric Clapton, another guitar legend from the 60's through now. He said that when he heard Stevie on the radio while he was driving, he had to pull over to the side of the road to listen to him. David Bowie, a singing legend from England from the 70's, asked him to tour with him. The song "Let's Dance" featured Stevie lead guitar. Pure legend.
I'm really speechless and I can't say enough about Stevie...I miss him and his music so freakin much. We're very blessed to hear and enjoy the music that he actually did! RIP SRV...Your music lives!
Thanks so much for appreciating one of the best blues guitarists of all time, he would go into black clubs when he was very very young and b.b. King brought him up on stage. And as they say the rest is history, he and b.b. King play together many many times over the years and became great friends.
The G.O.A.T Look for his "sound check" video....blow your minds. Stevie was from another plane of existence!! That man just had music oozing from his fingers and the blues in his soul.
You guys are my new binge. I haven't watched everything but at least half on nights I can't sleep. I love the diversity in appreciation of music, comedy, and thought. It's refreshing in today's world. I'm probably older than your parents and younger than your grandparents. I love what you do. I have noticed that some of the music you hear are actually remakes and, while good music is always good music, it might be cool to watch the original and then the remake and give thoughts. Also, how about some bluegrass? Look up Earl Scruggs and Lester Flat, Roy Clark, and Glenn Campbell. Excellent banjo and guitars. Blues and gospel music!
Jimi Hendrix live at Filmore east machine Gun. The thing is he created the fx we take for granted and also the strings back then went out of tune when you hit the whammy bar. So he was also playing out of tune but knew guitar so well that he fingered the guitar into tune w bends. It's the little things w him that make him the greatest but his "Johnny B.Goode" is absolutely Insane.
I am so glad that Stevie left us a lot of music to remember him by and inspire a younger generation. Stevie was a natural and it came so easy to him, I miss him all the time and know that him and Hendrix are jamming right now ❤️🎸❤️.

Hard to imagine your great-grandparents rocking out to that, but we did. I'm 65 and if y'all are in highschool, I'm old enough to be your great-grandmother. I just love watching y'all enjoying so many genres produced through many decades.
This is real music. Really playing an instrument. Really singing. No "auto tune" no electronic instruments. Learn something from this God of a guitar player. was an excellent vocalist as well.
An electric guitar IS an "electronic instrument" though. Autotune is cheating. I'll give you that. ..but simply using electronics and computers doesn't make music "fake". Playing an electronic keyboard requires exactly the same amount of skill as it does to play an acoustic piano. Programming electronic instruments actually requires WAY more work and technical skill than it does to just plug in a guitar and start playing. Without "electronic music" we wouldn't have the Beatles' later material or albums like Dark Side of The Moon. Music is an extremely subjective and personal experience. The definition of "real music" is anything that makes YOU feel something. If you were to play Stevie Ray Vaughan for people during the era of classical music, they would just think it was loud noise created by strange electronic instruments. My grandparents thought that Jimi Hendrix was just drugged out hippie noise and Jazz was "real music". It's all relative... Mainstream pop music has gotten much worse in modern times - but who cares? Turn off the radio. Thanks to computers, electronic instruments, and the internet, there is INFINITELY more music available today than ever before. ...and talented musicians don't have to get lucky and get signed to a record label just to make an album. People say that "real music" doesn't exist anymore, but we're actually living in a golden era of it. Humans will ALWAYS be giving birth to new talented artists every generation. We always have. Having said all that, SRV is one of my favorite musicians of all time. He was one of a kind and a true master of his instrument.
You just witnessed magic and have been baptized by the Blues. Congratulations. That was filmed in Austin, Texas at a legendary venue called Austin City Limits. ✌💙

Watching these young men’s reactions to a guitar LEGEND was so entertaining! I’ve seen many people react to and critique this video and it’s the same each time...BLOWN AWAY!!! Glad you all recognize his talent (and of course Hendrix: the OG)
RIP SRV and Hendrix
SRV: cat in the hat with the 59 Strat.
Best guitarist ever on the planet.
It’s so sad that he gets sober and is playing his best music and singing, with his most beautiful voice right before his horrific helicopter crash in 90. WE MISS YOU. His gravestone says his famous words: “Thank you for all the love you passed our way.” Rest in peace, my guitar hero.❤️🩹RIP SRV🎸
Stevie did Jimi justice in covering this and adding the bluesy vibe to it, he understood Jimi's theme and took it a step further
Two BadAsses ♠♥ 👹🎸 RIP
Stevie killing it. Of course. But his band is tremendous as well. That drummer is just phenomenal.
little fact stevie passed away in a helicopter crash, my father my uncle, and a few of my dads friends got to see him at his last concert which in fact was at alpine valley music theatre, you guys checking him out brought back good memories, and you guys appreciating his talent and music was so awesome to see! not many of our generation, i'm 37 btw, appreciate that talent now a days so it's awesome to see his music living on for our generation.
Insane that only 3 people make such a powerful sound, you do feel it inside you. Great sounds
Stevie Ray crosses back and forth between Blues and Rock to the point he's pretty much his own genre. All the kings of blues guitar pay him respect and he was friends with most of the best. He's one of those guys that were so good at something you knew God would take him early.
We call it Texas contemporary blues.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Was fortunate enough to see him before he was gone…
My favorite guitarist, saw him live 4 times. Cried when he died. The Cat in the Hat with a Strat.
You gotta check out Texas Flood Live At El Mocambo!
The Cat in the Hat with a Strat....love it!😁
Testify!
Only got to see him once.. but one is better than none!
@@warrenparker8282 You know damn well that Texas Flood, Tin Pan Alley, and others, were nothing like Jimi would write.
Stevie's live El Macambo concert performance of "Texas Flood" or "Little Wing" are also well worth the time.
Very much so!!!
like going to guitar church
Legendary concert.
"what do we call this guys?"
Without hesitation "Greatness!"
Couldn't have said it better myself!
You are watching one of the greatest guitarists to ever roam the Earth. Wait until you see him play behind his back.
With only a base player and drummer to back him he is left to play both rhythm and lead guitar. Often both at the same time. Incredible.
SRV was one of the greatest guitar players ever. Shame he was taken too soon from us.
Exactamente!!!
SRV was my favorite, simply because I can feel his emotion when he played. He was that good at 16 years old. He had a gift.
Totally agreed. Best version. Amazing video. I still watch it frequently when I want to remind myself I should quit guitar. Haha
I KNEW I wouldn't be the only one to suggest that particular performance of Texas Flood. Little Wing from same show is also killer. And Lenny (song he wrote for his wife).
That song was the best live performances of his life.
Incredible
SVR didn't just play guitar, he channeled music through it! He was like no other and he is missed. Thank goodness his genius was recorded so we can listen to him forever!
Never ever lost on the fretboard, as if his fingers were channeling a divine muse -- all of that, and he sang well too!🙂👍
"What do we call this, guys?"
"Greatness"
That pretty much sums SRV up in a single word. Great reaction, guys! More Stevie please...👌
A stripper bought the house down w little sister in Las Vegas
Great choice! Also check out Stevie, playing Rude Mood, with his brother, Jimmie on a double necked Strat. Blow your damned hair back.....
His older brother, himself a talented guitar player for The Fabulous Thunderbirds, once said, "Stevie Ray plays guitar like he's breaking out of prison"! I enjoyed watching y'all rock out! 😎🤘
Guys.. this man is the GOAT.. a technical guitar master that owned his craft.. he's uncompareable.. Jimi Hendix's family gave him Jimi's wah pedal.
@@barbarascotto3873 ok Barbara, thanks for the clarification.. i guess lol
There has never been , and never will be another as gifted as this man. Please do more, he was a monster on the guitar...and a sweet guy. RIP legend.
Jimi Hendrix in my opinion was still better, but I give Stevie a well deserved second
Man, I could watch him play this song over and over like it was the first time ❤
Voodoo Child is originally Jimi Hendrix song!!!!! Listen to it live in Maui!!!!! TRUST ME 🔥🔥🔥
He is one of the best guitarist to ever grace this planet! You need to check out more of his music!!
Man I remember leaving his concert and he played for about 2 hours and my ass was worn out from nonstop jammin. I was 3rd row and he broke a string mid song and a verse later he held a note for about 20 seconds while switching guitars and then continued killin it…..
That was an awesome performance he didn't skip a single beat
You was so lucky too have seen him sadly I didn’t find out about him until after he passed
That the concert where they recorded the break and swap over? Apparently breakages weren't uncommon because of the tension he used on the heavier strings he preferred to use.
@@gordowg1wg145 Yeah, that's out there somewhere on YT. Was fortunate to see Stevie live. However that switch? No words.
Glad the young men got to listen.
@@gordowg1wg145 ....many other guitarists could not physically play SRV's guitar as he used 13's and strung 'em action high...Stevies left hand and forearm were STRONG....
Tommy Shannon was a great bass player, but you can always see him watching Stevie Ray in amazement. Even he was blown away by him and he did this every night on stage next to him!
His music flows right through to the soul . So cool you all are experiencing a legend.
I saw Chris "Whipper" Layton playing with Kenny Wayne Shepherd a few years ago.
Absolutely!
I think this is the most underrated. Stevie always used to say “There’s no secret to my tone. I just tune low, play hard, and floor it.”
Saw him right before his death. He wore a purple satin suit with a huge purple feather in his hat. One of the most talented GOATs. It was a spiritual experience for sure.
I always felt that SRV came the closest to Hendrix in style. Too bad they never met.
It's always a treat watching people discover Stevie Ray!
If you don't get chills listening to Stevie, you don't have a soul.
I think you guys would love his "Texas Flood" live. He plays the guitar behind his back better than anyone can play in front.
Definitely
@@kelleefiola5854 Check out all the PBS Austin City Blues where I first heard SRV Chills up and down my spine !!!
An icon doing a cover version of another icon. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix forever. I like to think they're somewhere jamming together. 🕊️
Modern blues man, blues laid the foundation for rock. Gotta hear his " Texas Flood," live version. Your eyeballs will fall out#
As an old man myself i truly enjoy watching videos of people reacting to classic music for the first time. It really makes me smile seeing their faces
I'm still heartbroken about Stevie. Crazy how you can love & miss someone you never met. He was a legend 😞❤
Fortunate to see him in concert about 35 years ago! He was epic!!!
This makes me so happy!! The 60s, 70s, and 80s brought up some crazy talented musicians.
You guys gotta watch Peter Frampton
He’s considered one of the best if not the best guitarist of all-time. Jimi Handrix was Stevie’s favorite musician. Crazy part is nobody ever taught Stevie how to play. He was 110% self taught. He has many, many songs that were hits on the radio.
Amazing thing is he could not read music.
No way is he anywhere near the best guitarist. He was playing Hendrix parts.
His bro played blues guitar. Plus he learned from Albert King and many others Texas bluesman when he was young.
@@hawki5120 Remember that the guy stated “if not the best guitarist of all-time.”. There is no way that he comes close to that.
Stevie Was a guitar blues genius. His style was his and his alone
You're joking!!!
Every LICK he plays is copied from someone else.
Watch him live at the Trocadero. He breaks a string on his guitar and doesn't miss a beat switching guitars!
This is Texas Blues with a harder edge than straight up blues.
With psychedelic thrown in
SRV was a guitar god but a mediocre vocalist
@@enyazogd5325 It’s an opinion, but I’d rate it a lot higher than mediocre. It probably would have been better if he hadn’t swallowed all that cocaine laced whiskey though.
Watch his 'Cold Shot' video🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nothing better than seeing people hearing greatness for the first time. 😎
Omg so cool!!!!
Blues was before rock, but Stevie was his own beast. Most of us consider him Texas Blues, or just blues. He has been so influential. I’m happy to see ya’ll appreciate him and his amazing playing and showmanship. Loved the reaction.
Thanks! Suggesting Stevie Ray Vaughan "life without you."
THE BLUES! Jimi, Stevie, Jimi Stevie. I have never heard a sour note! Perfection!!!
Thanks so much for appreciating one of the best blues guitarists of all time, he would go into black clubs when he was very very young and b.b. King brought him up on stage. And as they say the rest is history, he and b.b. King play together many many times over the years and became great friends.
The G.O.A.T
Look for his "sound check" video....blow your minds.
Stevie was from another plane of existence!! That man just had music oozing from his fingers and the blues in his soul.
He's really channeling Hendrix on this particular rendition. Brings a tear to the eye. DAYUM!
Greatest guitarist that ever lived. Maybe it's an age thing but seeing him play like that can move me to tears.
Was going to make same comment.
Machine Gunn is a miracle of a performance.
I am so glad that Stevie left us a lot of music to remember him by and inspire a younger generation. Stevie was a natural and it came so easy to him, I miss him all the time and know that him and Hendrix are jamming right now ❤️🎸❤️.
Y’all are just too much fun! I just subscribed hoping for more SRV. I hope you will check out his Texas Flood live at El Macombo. The El Macombo performance of Texas Flood is my favorite!!!
iv been listening to stevie for over 30 years and he never gets old.
The greatest moment in my life was watching Jimi Hendrix closing out Woodstock in 1969 playing The National Anthem..3 days of watching live , some of the greatest singers and song writers of all time. You really need to react to Jimi Hendrix.
So glad you guys did this one💖 Stevie Ray poured his soul out thru that Telecaster guitar and world was gifted with an AMAZING TALENT 💖💯 He passed exactly 4 years to the day that his father did. RIP Stevie, we all miss you 😢
T James
Stratocaster.
Love you guys. Oh mercy. SRV is the guitar GOAT. Life cut too short in a helicopter crash leaving a SRV performance.
✌💙
So I'm a old chick been listening to Stevie most my life. So happy seeing a younger gen enjoying him as much as I do.
Someone once said that Stevie Ray tried to make a deal with the Devil. But the Devil said there was no way in Hell he was going to pay Stevie Ray for guitar lessons.
Deserves to be top comment lol
I love that and I would not doubt it lol it is a crying shame that he never realized how good he was I remember in an interview Tommy saying that the whole time they was together he only heard Stevie say once that wow that sounded good about his own playing and he sounded surprised he sounded good . He played with all his heart
🤣🤣🤣 damn right!
