This performance was great not because of his playing but because how he improvised through the string breaking AND a guitar swap mid solo. Thats like a nascar driver experiencing engine failure getting to the pit and jumping into another moving car and getting back into the race. Special shout out and recognition to his guitar tech. What's crazy is around 4:35 you can see he broke a string on his guitar, but still kept it going seamlessly even with a BROKEN GUITAR! Super talented! That's why he swaps guitars later
Not only is it the smoothest guitar switch ever, but a broken string screws your tuning, but Stevie was good enough to bend the strings, keeping it in tune until the changeover.

I've never seen anyone play live as good as SVR did. Dude was nearly flawless. He was an absolute monster in the live performance of "life without you".

Listen to the studio of SRV cover of Jimmy's little wing. Hendrix was smiling from above as he heard Stevie play his song like nobody else could. SRV was incredible. Saw about a year before he died and didn't realize how blessed I was to see one of the best ever work his magic with 6 strings and a voice.
SRV is definitely the greatest. I had the privilege to meet him a couple of times before he really got big. One of the nicest most humble people you could meet. I have a story Ill share later. Check out Texas Flood live at the Macombo you will see why we say he is the greatest. He could do anything Hendrix could do. In fact Hendrix was one of his idols. He is truly a legend here in Texas. Texas Blues at its best. Another great song is Pride and Joy. Eric Clapton once said that the only person that could make him put his guitar down and quit would be Stevie. Stevie Ray is one of my personal favorites, a consummate blues man and a technical genius. A great way to get a good look at them both is to check out their live versions of Voodoo Chile. Jimi wrote it and after he passed, Stevie Ray was the only one Jimi's father would approve to cover the song.

Hendricks was Rock roll, Stevie Ray is blues, but Stevie loved Jimmy. They were both powerhouse in their days and they're both up in heaven playing together
Here as a guitar player and student, listen guys, Jimmy Hendrix essentially invented the distorted guitar, transitioning the genre of rock from plain acoustics to harder metal. He basically influenced all your favorite guitar players you mention. He may not be the best skillfully, but as a pioneer of rock music guitar, SRV can have that title, Jimmy Hendrix is a true legend and deserves his respect a the one of the most soulful ever. No one could express their emotions through guitar notes like him, listen to his performance at Woodstock Star Spangled banner 🇺🇸

You have had some great guitarists guys but may I suggest another one by the name of Jeff Healey. He was a Canadian guitarist who was blind but he definitely had a gift. He and Stevie Ray Vaughan performed together. If you can find the video, check out his song "See The Light" where he performs live. It will blow your mind.
Eric Clapton talked about how while he's playing, he's always thinking about where his fingers are going next, but Stevie just let all those notes flow out of him effortlessly. Legend.

Stevie plays 3 or 4 Hendrix songs. Voodoo Child, Little Wing, Third Stone From the Sun and Castles Made of Sand. They're both great players. It's like choosing between apples and oranges.
This was the concert at Austin City Limits when he was showcasing the last album "In Step", before his death. What's most tragic about his death is that he completely changed his life around and beat his addiction to drugs and alcohol which almost killed him. His alcohol addiction was so bad at one point that he would drink a full bottle of Crown just before going out to play, he couldn't play without it. Luckily he got the help he needed and had a new lease on life but died in a helicopter crash in Alpine Valley Wisconsin. He was taken from us way too early. RIP Stevie.
So many guitarists stand on Jimi's shoulders and many others' shoulders. Jimi stood on the shoulders of those before him too. Stevie knows it. The Hendrix family is notoriously strict about Jimi's estate, but they gave Stevie the blessing to play his music and they even gave him some of Jimi's equipment to use. I also recommend watching the videos of Stevie jamming with Albert King (Blues legend).
Yes the Hendrix estate is very strict about how Jimi's "brand" is being used however it has absolutely nothing to do with that man's legacy, it's all about the all mighty greenback to them. As far as them giving SRV their blessings or giving SRV some of Jimi's equipment to use isn't true. SRV was perfecting Jimi's music long before Jimi's brand was trademarked & they gained full control of his estate. As far as the equipment you're referring to.... yes SRV had a wah wah pedal that Hendrix used bit it was purchased at an auction by Jimmy Vaughn (SRVs older brother) & given to SRV & had to be completely reworked & only the shell is original

They're all about making every last dime they can & don't get me wrong, what they have in my opinion is beyond priceless but this isn't the way Jimi would've wanted things. This was fairly recently (few yrs) that they pulled this stunt, long after SRV was killed. I'm not sure what the implications are covering another artist music but I think if SRV was still alive he would've done it anyways lol

YOU GUYS HAVE GOT TO LISTEN TO THE BAND CALLED “DEATH”. Not the new metal band, but the 1970s band of the same name that comprised of some African American brothers from Detroit, I believe..They played some really amazing rock and the sound was ahead of it’s time. They never made it big, but they made an actual record, only less than 500 maybe. Not very many. But YEARS later they were discovered by rare record enthusiasts. Someone uploaded the record called Death, and now they play concerts together again! It’s a sad story how they came to be a band. Their father died and it really took a toll on the family. So their outlet was Death. Listen to Freakin’ Out (about an acid trip) or Keep On Knockin’. PLEASE listen to this band. They fucking slap!!! I can help you guys listen to stuff that’s great and worth your time. Some artists have one good hit and everything else is trash. Also live versions of most songs aren’t good to listen to for the first time.

You picked the tamer Little Sister to watch. Stevie's live performance "Look At Little Sister" with Jeff Healy is like watching a planet being created. Then, SRV's performance of Texas Flood Live at El Mocambo where he plays behind his back is crazy good. Rating the two (Hendrix) against each other is hard because Hendrix innovated and then influenced, so Vaughn had the base technique to build upon.
I was blessed to see him live 3 times. Once on hog back island in the Mississippi River. He was playing guitar jumped in the air, landed with both feet on his guitar still playing, spinning around on the guitar and never missed a beat. He headed up for Charlie Daniels and showed him up.
He broke a string. You could see it whipping around there and he played right through the solo then swapped guitars and never missed a beat. He plays a cover of Voodoo Chile you should watch him do it.
Guys, Jimi’s playing transitioned the rock guitar from a support instrument into a solo instrument. Stevie acknowledged that. He also was flamboyant like setting his guitar on fire at Woodstock. But Jimi’ skills were not as developed. Wonder what he would have done had he lived. SRV is absolutely Blues and had incredible skills which he developed over his life. Again, what he could have done if he had not died. I was 2 feet away from him at an outdoor concert in 1983. First time I’d ever seen or heard anything like him. I’m so grateful. ❤️

As a long time Austinite. SRV was special. Saw him live several times. Once he and his brother Jimmy played a double neck guitar simultaneously. AND switched places and never stopped playing! In this ACL show. He busted a string, kept playing. Switched guitars. And never stopped.
I was blessed to see Ste in in 86 just north of Dallas. We got to meet him and he was the nicest, sweetest guy u could meet. I miss him so but this falls under only the good die young.

Jim I & Stevie Ray are both top guitarist that died way too soon. I don’t know if anyone mentioned, but the Jimi played his guitar upside-down. He had a right hand Stratocaster, but Jimi was left handed. So he flipped the guitar over. Stevie Ray would go out and play all night in clubs leaning from the best, like Albert King/Buddy Guy. Then go to high school in the morning. He was notorious for playing until blisters took off the skin on his hands, he’d just superglue the skin back on and keep playing. The were both generational talents.

SRV isn’t just a blues master, he’s made incredible, soulful songs like ‘Riviera Paradise’ as well. One of my all-time favorite guitarists, no doubt.
Not only is it the smoothest guitar switch ever, but a broken string screws your tuning, but Stevie was good enough to bend the strings, keeping it in tune until the changeover.
There’s a video of Jonny Lang singing Lie to Me where he changes guitars in the middle of the song because of that reason also. Or BB King changing a guitar string during the song while singing on. Masters of their craft!

Listen to the studio of SRV cover of Jimmy's little wing. Hendrix was smiling from above as he heard Stevie play his song like nobody else could. SRV was incredible. Saw about a year before he died and didn't realize how blessed I was to see one of the best ever work his magic with 6 strings and a voice.
Hendrix was SRV’s idol. We all need idols to learn from and strive to be like. One cannot exist without the other.

Stevie Ray is one of my personal favorites, a consummate blues man and a technical genius. A great way to get a good look at them both is to check out their live versions of Voodoo Chile. Jimi wrote it and after he passed, Stevie Ray was the only one Jimi's father would approve to cover the song.

Here as a guitar player and student, listen guys, Jimmy Hendrix essentially invented the distorted guitar, transitioning the genre of rock from plain acoustics to harder metal. He basically influenced all your favorite guitar players you mention. He may not be the best skillfully, but as a pioneer of rock music guitar, SRV can have that title, Jimmy Hendrix is a true legend and deserves his respect a the one of the most soulful ever. No one could express their emotions through guitar notes like him, listen to his performance at Woodstock Star Spangled banner 🇺🇸

SRV was a genre all of his own, great mix of Southern Rock, Rhythm & Blues, soul, and a touch of country
Sadly he was struck down at the peak of his career, would have loved to see how he would have followed up his overwhelming success!
Stevie plays 3 or 4 Hendrix songs. Voodoo Child, Little Wing, Third Stone From the Sun and Castles Made of Sand. They're both great players. It's like choosing between apples and oranges.
This was the concert at Austin City Limits when he was showcasing the last album "In Step", before his death. What's most tragic about his death is that he completely changed his life around and beat his addiction to drugs and alcohol which almost killed him. His alcohol addiction was so bad at one point that he would drink a full bottle of Crown just before going out to play, he couldn't play without it. Luckily he got the help he needed and had a new lease on life but died in a helicopter crash in Alpine Valley Wisconsin. He was taken from us way too early. RIP Stevie.
So many guitarists stand on Jimi's shoulders and many others' shoulders. Jimi stood on the shoulders of those before him too. Stevie knows it. The Hendrix family is notoriously strict about Jimi's estate, but they gave Stevie the blessing to play his music and they even gave him some of Jimi's equipment to use. I also recommend watching the videos of Stevie jamming with Albert King (Blues legend).
Yes the Hendrix estate is very strict about how Jimi's "brand" is being used however it has absolutely nothing to do with that man's legacy, it's all about the all mighty greenback to them. As far as them giving SRV their blessings or giving SRV some of Jimi's equipment to use isn't true. SRV was perfecting Jimi's music long before Jimi's brand was trademarked & they gained full control of his estate. As far as the equipment you're referring to.... yes SRV had a wah wah pedal that Hendrix used bit it was purchased at an auction by Jimmy Vaughn (SRVs older brother) & given to SRV & had to be completely reworked & only the shell is original

They're all about making every last dime they can & don't get me wrong, what they have in my opinion is beyond priceless but this isn't the way Jimi would've wanted things. This was fairly recently (few yrs) that they pulled this stunt, long after SRV was killed. I'm not sure what the implications are covering another artist music but I think if SRV was still alive he would've done it anyways lol

One of Stevie Ray's friends, Canadian guitarist Jeff Healey is definitely worth checking out too - See the Light (live) :) Stevie greatly admired Jimi as well as played with Blues greats like Albert King :) All amazing players...Jimi's sound was innovative and more rock than blues.

YOU GUYS HAVE GOT TO LISTEN TO THE BAND CALLED “DEATH”. Not the new metal band, but the 1970s band of the same name that comprised of some African American brothers from Detroit, I believe..They played some really amazing rock and the sound was ahead of it’s time.
They never made it big, but they made an actual record, only less than 500 maybe. Not very many. But YEARS later they were discovered by rare record enthusiasts. Someone uploaded the record called Death, and now they play concerts together again! It’s a sad story how they came to be a band. Their father died and it really took a toll on the family. So their outlet was Death.
Listen to Freakin’ Out (about an acid trip) or Keep On Knockin’.

You picked the tamer Little Sister to watch. Stevie's live performance "Look At Little Sister" with Jeff Healy is like watching a planet being created. Then, SRV's performance of Texas Flood Live at El Mocambo where he plays behind his back is crazy good. Rating the two (Hendrix) against each other is hard because Hendrix innovated and then influenced, so Vaughn had the base technique to build upon.
I was blessed to see him live 3 times.
Once on hog back island in the Mississippi River. He was playing guitar jumped in the air, landed with both feet on his guitar still playing, spinning around on the guitar and never missed a beat. He headed up for Charlie Daniels and showed him up.
He broke a string. You could see it whipping around there and he played right through the solo then swapped guitars and never missed a beat. He plays a cover of Voodoo Chile you should watch him do it.
Guys, Jimi’s playing transitioned the rock guitar from a support instrument into a solo instrument. Stevie acknowledged that. He also was flamboyant like setting his guitar on fire at Woodstock. But Jimi’ skills were not as developed. Wonder what he would have done had he lived.
SRV is absolutely Blues and had incredible skills which he developed over his life. Again, what he could have done if he had not died. I was 2 feet away from him at an outdoor concert in 1983. First time I’d ever seen or heard anything like him. I’m so grateful. ❤️

As a long time Austinite. SRV was special. Saw him live several times. Once he and his brother Jimmy played a double neck guitar simultaneously. AND switched places and never stopped playing!

I was blessed to see Ste in in 86 just north of Dallas. We got to meet him and he was the nicest, sweetest guy u could meet. I miss him so but this falls under only the good die young.

Jim I & Stevie Ray are both top guitarist that died way too soon. I don’t know if anyone mentioned, but the Jimi played his guitar upside-down. He had a right hand Stratocaster, but Jimi was left handed. So he flipped the guitar over. Stevie Ray would go out and play all night in clubs leaning from the best, like Albert King/Buddy Guy. Then go to high school in the morning. He was notorious for playing until blisters took off the skin on his hands, he’d just superglue the skin back on and keep playing. The were both generational talents.
You guys are having the same argument we used to have when I was in high school in the 70s - Who's better? Jimi, Stevie Ray, or Van Halen? Don't have to chose one, I love them all!!

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Buckethead are the two best guitarists of all time. So thankful my late father raised me on real talented music with soul rather than popular garbage. Listening to Stevie always brings back the best memories I have. RIP Dad

Smooth Blues. The SRV/Jimi debate shud never exist, and they would tell u so themselves. They were both multi-dimensional super beings, and I love them both. Jimi was the composer extraordinaire, Stevie was the guitar. Both could tear it up and would have been dynamite jamming together. Which may actually be happening now🎆 Hearts full of soul.
