Me and my friend had a same version of Macbooks, exact same models, M1 from 2020. He always use it in a mixed mode, plugged and unplugged. I have seen his mac going low battery most of times. Mine was always on charger and unplugged rarely. I had lesser cycles, but my health was considerbly lower than his mac. So keeping mac plugged in to reduce cycle count doesnt always mean healthy. Another thing to watch out for is the heating. Avoid heating your batteries above 35 degreee celsius at any cost.

Today in 2024, I still get 1 hour of battery time running youtube video. If I just browse, the battery lasts 90 minutes. IMO Apple's battery far exceeds my expectations. IBM Thinkpad battery couldn't even do 50% of what Apple MBP did with their battery. Don't worry too much about prolonging battery life. There is no good answer or "strategy". Worst enemy of Lithium based battery is temperature. Always allow proper ventilation around MBP and you will be fine. I keep a small fan next to laptop during summer days.

My Macbook Pro M1 Pro 14' is 90% after 450 cycles. Heavy usage. Only full brightness when plugged in. Never let it discharge bellow 20% and charge habits are 30% - 100%, I guess that's why I'm keeping a good ratio between battery percentage and cycles. Apple says after 1000 cycles battery will get on that 80% so I'm doing a good job 😅 Using Coconut Battery App sometimes as well...
Oh, and my Iphone 13 mini is 86% after 700 cycles, also Heavy usage 😅

This is a quite interesting topic. I would be more curious about batteries inside Windows gaming laptops. Doesn't matter which brand. As far as I know, they should be plugged in always during difficult tasks like gaming, 3D rendering etc. If not, they are less powerful, not to mention that they aren't even close to MacBook 18 hours on battery. That would more interesting, how a gaming laptop goes with the battery let's say after 2 years compared when it was new. I never searched for this info, but strange that I never saw something about this topic.

The thing is you've only used 50 cycles in an entire year. My Mac gives 1.5 days battery backup for development & moderate uses so I've to recharge it in every 2 days. That means I would reach 180-200 cycles a year. And all by means I would lose >20% battery health. So the conclusion is it's up our use cases.
PS: I also follow 20%-80% charge cycles rules most of the time if I'm not travelling and also use Aldante to stop charging my Mac at 70% when using an external monitor.

I do not see how. The only potential issues are mis-calibration and unbalanced cells which are easily solved with an occasional charge to full and will not cause detrimental damage, only temporary capacity loss and slightly inaccurate battery percentages. The facts are facts, and the fact is Apple is still using traditional Li-Ion technology that should be charged to full as little as possible and should not be kept at high voltage for long periods of time.

😂😂😂 Honestly, just use your Mac as you need to and don't worry about it. If you end up needing to replace your Macs battery in a 3-5 years time, it's no big deal. Most Apple stores can replace a Mac battery within a few hours and it's easier/cheaper than its ever been, $150 - $250 (depending on the model). This video is ridiculous and in some parts just complete BS. You certainly do not need to replace a Mac after 3yrs lol....this guy doesn't have a clue what he is talking about 😅😅😂

Bought iPhone 15 pro last year. Less than 1 year battery health dropped to 99%. It’s good that before I switch to Apple fully I see their business strategy. Consumers do not actually own Apple products fully, in the name of software upgrade and new features which doesn’t really matter on day to day operations, but only just to ensure that product depreciates and used product to loose value for second sale, even Apple doesn’t pay enough for trade ins. Replacing batteries would cost much from Apple. My iPhone 5 is unusable even though it’s in pristine condition. All apps doesn’t support I OS less than 13 . Mac is not different. The most funny thing about Apple consumers are that, all of them are money conscious, which doesn’t makes sense. You buy Apple products for cost optimisation ? 😂
