It works BUT, when you are done and shut down the PC for the night, and open in the morning, the SAME, EXACT thing happens again.....ALWAYS...."Restore pages? Chrome didn't shut down correctly. Restore Open startup pages." Does anyone know a PERMANENT fix? It is so frustrating, I might switch to Mozilla Firefox. It NEVER happens there.
Hi Daniel, I haven't heard of it coming back after the fix. I know the fix gave some Windows systems a difficult time, but I think once the properties folder was located, it worked. I know Chrome did a major update since I wrote the post, but as you see here, the fix has worked recently. I did locate a good chrome app I am using. I don't know if it would help you or not. It's FVD Speed Dial. I don't know if it would help stop the restore error. You might give it a try. It is a frustrating error. That's why I wanted to share the fix. BTW, what version of Windows are you running?
Error still returns. I have a feeling that the cause is a Microsoft Update and NOT a Chrome problem.
It could be Dave. It never came back for me though.
@@delbertyoungsermons That is when it started for me. I uninstalled the updates and reinstalled and the problem is back. Also its the W10 update. Two on the 14th and one 15th. One was adobe update.
didnt have any problems till windows update
It started with me from the Oct 2018 Windows update and Adobe. Sometimes the computer stays on and other times to sign in then if the ribbons are flying will go back to where I left off. Now if I leave it for 2 minutes its shutting down to sign in. Sometimes it freezes my mouse and if I leave it then off to sign in again. If I have just Facebook or have YT open it never closes!! Didn't happen on my desktop, just this Asus VivoBook Max I am ready to fire out the door. Worked fine until Oct 2018
Also blue screen asks me to please wait before sign in comes on.
Tried everything still didnt work :( even changed all the "crashed" i could find into "normal"

There is no "Preferences" file in my folders...only a Preferences~RF409a0206 TMP file.
I am using Windows 7. I'm not certain what 8.1 or 10 would be. A Preference file would not be a .TMP file. Perhaps Google the version of Windows you are running and see if you can locate your Preference file? Let us know what you find. Thanks.

Hello MyRandomization - I made this with Windows 7 awhile back. You probably are using a later version. I know some have had success with later versions and some haven't. It would be good if those who have had success with Windows 8 or Windows 10 would share what they did. I hope you get Chrome corrected as it is a pain to get the error every time you start Chrome.
I just saw Ostap Bender's reply below saying Chrome had to be closed. Guess I thought closing Chrome was a given. Did you make sure Chrome was closed? I can see how the file wouldn't be rebuilt if it was open. Maybe a good thing to try would be to go into Windows Task Manager, close all instances of Chrome and then follow the instructions in the video. Hope this helps.
I'll take back what I said earlier.. Chrome seems to have stopped doing this ever since and has worked faster as well.. thanks for you help on this

Tanjeena, I did the video using Windows 7. It seems others have used this though the files are named differently in windows 10 to get the same results, but I'm not sure. I hope it will work. It's annoying to get the message. thanks
I made it using Windows 7. According to the comments, it's worked sometimes and sometimes it hasn't. I know it won't hurt to try.

Donna, I made this using Windows 7. I don't know where the file is using a later version. I suggest trying a search for the remaining files and folders to see where they are located.
Yes, I have 7 on my work computer which is the one having the problem.
Just type in search local and you will find your way
