Time you called this out. For normal city driving, a naturally aspirated engine is sensible because the turbo doesn’t need to spool up and down each time one accelerates and decelerates. These small turbo engines aren’t all that much fun anyway considering our crowded city conditions in which the major part of one’s driving is done.
I don't need a turbo since my Tigor's na 1.2 gives enough power in city as well as Highway. Paired with AMT it is so easy to drive even my wife can drive now😂. It cruises at 120kmph with great stability too.
While we do test drive most of us try to drive fast, along with that try to drive slow like we do in city thats the best way to understand difference between an NA and turbo. Most of the 1L turbo cars wont move from standstill without throttle and stall and if we keep accelerating while in traffic it overheat and reduces the engine life. People are thinking costly one is good. In our city conditions NA with TC/AMT/CVT is enough.
Theoretically an NA engine is sufficient, but when you get a test drive of a turbo engine, you will not look back again.. Basically if you know how to use turbo engines with a light foot, its very fuel efficient in city too. So its your mindset, not the tech! If you know how to use an IPhone / Mac then buy it or else dont.
After owning a turbo for 3 years, I just learnt how to get good fuel efficiency out of it, you have to drive so smoothly and keep the AC low or else it's impossible, especially in a city like Bangalore

Absolutely!! Turbo adds lot of extra parts, stresses engine which needs better maintenance and mileage isn't great, i felt NA creta IVT was butter smooth and enough for city and highway.
@@muttineni03 To be honest, I was happy driving even Alto on highways and hills. So, I don't understand, why people want turbo on their 1.0, 1.2 and even 1.5? Just to overtake others? How egoistic and self centered people are? or what a marketing trick played by the brands...
In a country where when buying a car people think about KITNA DETI HAI. AND ON TOP OF THAT COMPANY THAT RULES THE SALES CHART DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE DIESEL ENGINE. a turbo is overkill where we will do more damage to the engine with speed ranging fron 20 to 50 km in most of the cities at least in our nation. Only reason for promoting turbos and sunroofs in this country is all about making more money for the service centres after things go wrong with the purchase you did not need but you wanted. 🙏
Exactly. For most of the city usage, turbo range is not useful and with engines like 1.0 L turbo (smaller emlngines and unused turbo range in city conditions) it gives terrible fuel efficiency. Thus, you got nothing out of it- no fun, no fuel efficiency. Same goes with air cooled DCTs. In stop and go city conditions and in hot whether conditions like India, it heats up quite fast. And moreover, to solve problems of reliability and heating, OEMs have started slowing down the transmission and it defeats the very purpose of DCT. So, people, in case of turbo and DCT both, are victims of marketing, misinformation, unawareness of their needs.
I think it depends on the Car. I got the 2020 Polo GT with torque converter. Ir's proper fun in sportmode.. hehe.. The lag is well covered by the tc gearbox and there is power everywhere
The issue lies not in wants and needs but in the tax slabs. Take, for instance, the Brezza's 1.5L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, which delivers a smooth driving experience. Despite being a sub-4-meter car, consumers face a 45% tax due to its 1.5L NA engine. To keep prices competitive, manufacturers often opt for smaller 1.0L turbocharged engines instead to decrease tax to 25%.
Sir brezza aur fronx ka plan he tho abhi 24 ka model lene me samajhdari he ya 2025 ka lu? Agar 2025 ka lunga tho same car zyaada price hike me milega ya usme kuch cosmetic changes expected he, please meri ye duvidha solve kare😊
A small turbo to boost low end torqe and 1.1-1.3 l petrol engine would be great. Sub litre turbopetrols are both underpowered and inefficient at the same time. And overstressed too. Also, reviewers should weigh the car because most manufacturers do not mention kerb weight anywhere. Also, dct is still very unreliable in low torque engines. Today, nexon diesel with dct is the most drivable powertrain in
I have a new i20 1.0 turbo. Yeah he's right, in the city it makes no sense at all, I get horrible mileage but on highways it's brilliant. I also struggled a bit on really high altitude climbs with full load even with a turbo engine so I can't imagine how bad a normal engine would have been for my car which would have been 20-40bhp less

What do I need? I drive on highways and the city. I go to the hills. I have one car. I want it to give me the best experience in all situations. So what the best transmission for me? The latest. The logic is simple. And I can’t fault it. The latest is always supposed to (at least it’s promised to) give us a superior experience. So unless I am a wealth person who can afford different cars for different driving conditions. Or a car nerd I will go out and want the latest tech-turbo petrol, DCT, ADAS…
The latest could also mean untested, unrefined, unreliable. I wouldn't say chasing the latest thing is faultless logic. Always do deeper research than just going for whatever's latest.
@ People believe many things that are utter rubbish or untrue or fiction like mythology. People believe what they are conditioned to believe. Tech companies and brands blasts us with an unending stream of latest is equal to best myth. A lie spoken again and again becomes the truth of the day.
Honda city 1.5 NA or VW Virtus and Slavia's 1.0 TSI which is better? Is it worth enough to buy 3 cylinder Virtus (MT) at 15.5 Lakhs instead of 4 cylinder Honda city (MT)? Need your suggestions guys.
I don't know much about this. Can you answer my question? The ethanol blended petrol is damaging my vehicle, it is an E10 variant engine. Now I started getting petrol only from the shell, now it is not causing any trouble? Why? Is it just a coincidence or reasonable solution?
I own a Hyundai i20 1L Turbo. And I am thinking of (at least until you guys convinced me not to upgrade to car unnecessarily with your other video) buying Hyundai Verna 1.5L Turbo. I am really not a driving enthusiast who can feel the difference between Turbo and Natasp and 85% I drive the car in city. But I am really keen in the aesthetics of the car. If you observe, most of the brands give a sporty design for Turbo engine variants. Take Hyundai verna for example. Chrome wheels, white interiors for NATASP variant, whereas, blacked out wheels, black interiors with red piping, disc callipers in red (God, I love it). Though it sounds stupid, I am inclined to buy Turbo only for a reason which has nothing to do with the engine :D
DCT, i agree if you have a good TC. But NA vs turbo, i am not convinced. I have both 1.2na i20 and 1.2 turbo nexon. Everything boils down to the convenience, price and practicality at the end of the day. What do i love to drive ? Nexon. Do you think much while overtaking ? Not much in the nexon. Are you a blind tata lover ? No, Nexon has one of the rough engine out there but i prefer safety over everything. NA engine has to be bigger to give the same fun even practicallity,I mean my i20 deliver full torque at 4200 rpm. And my nexon is at its peak torque from 1800 to 4000 rpm, and put aside the numbers. I definitely struggle in i20 and do extra shifts to overtake in highways, this seems logical and practical to go for turbos atleast for me. In turbos you put less time on gas to reach a certain speed, in NA you need more rev for more time to attain same. Howmany cars are good NA out there in sub 4 meters.
I chose Creta N line for the chassis and tweaked suspension. If the same had been offered in diesel, I would be more than happy to own it. So sometimes its because of the variant, we had to go with a particular engine option.
Tax structure is making people go for turbos. More power and torque at lower tax. Manufacturers do not in their brochures mention the rpm when the turbo kicks in. So people can't judge by the spec sheet alone. Have to depend on reviews for this information
1:40 - so, the turbo doesn’t kick in at low speeds (traffic snarls/ snail pace) - the turbo kicks in when you throttle down on an open stretch leaving behind the NAEs. So, do you need a turbo? Heck yeah! Needs & wants - that’s Greek and Latin 😒
Unless its a gem of a turbo engine like the ford tdci....i mean it's a clear case where the diesel outshines the petrol, NA or turbo. But those kind of fun, tractable & free revving but lag controlled turbo engines aren't being offered now. The s cross 1.6 ddis was another beast of an engine from fiat.
So you need non turbo diesel? Good? Turbo are better to burn fuel without carrying on bulky engine parts, the problem is it becomes inefficient when one needs power in non turbo range at the same time don't need to rev unnecessary. May be in future automobile engineers make all time turbo/charged engine with only cylinder activated as power needed.
I believe no one has noticed, but if we simply switched to naturally aspirated engines instead of turbo petrol engines, our vehicles would automatically become more efficient, thereby supporting CAFE norms. Cars these days are too expensive due to taxation in India. Instead of having turbo petrol or turbo diesel engines, brands should offer naturally aspirated engines. Naturally aspirated engines aren't dull, as Honda engines exemplify. If someone truly needs a turbocharger in their car, it should be an optional extra, legally, like it is for CNG in cars. The majority of cars I wish to buy come with turbo engines without any logical backup, with Mahindra being the best example. Turbo engines are gas guzzlers, which I believe a practical person wouldn't want. Look at the Toyota Camry: it has a 2.5L naturally aspirated engine with hybrid technology and is both fuel-efficient and powerful. It's also the government's engine displacement and size restriction tax differences that have led to this chaos. I believe a vehicle should be taxed based on its inefficiency. For example, the Honda City's 1.5L NA engine is both powerful and efficient compared to Skoda/Volkswagen's 1.0L turbo engines. In this case, the 1.5L NA engine should be taxed less than the 1.0L turbo engine from VW/Skoda. I request you both Shumi Sir and Kartikayee Sir to have a discussion or a detailed podcast if possible to discuss the above topic on Motorinc, I mentioned 🙌🏻🤌🏻
the revotron 3 cylinder non turbo also whines like a turbo😂😂 with no turbo like pickup, my VW CC had vw’s award winning 2 liter turbo that had 200 bhp and 200 nm front wheel drive , once it spooled up it accelerated like crazy fast and furious type on open wide US roads❤❤ but it was uncomparable to the 6 liter V8s of the ford trucks in pickup
I say, NA above 1.2 litres should be fine. 1.0 NA and below are definitely under powered and even in city it will be sluggish. classic case is Kiger 1.0 NA vs Turbo. after a test drive with fully loaded back seats if you are happy, then go for NA. also, turbo engines are notoriously fuel guzzlers. mileage on all turbo cars are horrible at low speeds.
Very interesting point ….i did take a test drive of new Alcazar, I am dragging my feet especially when my current car is 1.5 NA CITY ! What would be your advice guys ?
Hey hi Ashutosh, thanks for response. What’s the mileage you are getting from c3 turbo in city driving? And could you please help me to understand the reason for not suggesting turbo engine for 1st time buyer?
@Chaitanya_CM I have a Kushaq 1.0 TSI. Getting good mileage is more tricky in a turbo petrol. A big reason is the turbo lag you see in bumper to bumper traffic. At low rpms, you don't get the desired acceleration. And when you floor the pedal to get the turbo to spool, it starts sipping petrol. Naturally aspirated engines fare better in bumper to bumper and city. Turbo petrols for highway, anyday.
Turbo is needed for a 1.0 ltr engine. Which will deliver fuel efficiency at lower rpm in city and power and torque at higher pm on highway for over taking or on inclined roads. No one can say a car will always be running in the city. Most of them drive for weekend gateway or to visit native or outing.
Car buyers in India are by far and large very naive when it comes to choosing a vehicle for purchase, and you can’t really fault automakers for exploiting that. I often see people putting more stock to trivial things like the panoramic sunroof and ventilated seats when asking for both is an oxymoron. Nobody pays attention to whether the backseat is foldable (60/40) or whether it supports ISOFIX child seats. On engine and transmission specs, you’re absolutely right that use cases should be considered when opting for one over the other. A turbo is only useful if you drive mostly on the highway, as it produces more power with less displacement and enhances fuel efficiency. Having a turbo becomes a double edged sword in stop and go city traffic wherein an NA produces better fuel efficiency than a turbo that has to spool up time and time again, resulting in carbon buildup and potential failures down the line. Same goes for DCTs - excellent for extracting performance from the engine but less reliable on our roads and weather conditions. If I’m not wrong TATA Motors have built the best DCT for Indian conditions by packaging individual components separately thereby reducing friction that often leads to DCT failures. Tl;Dr No substitute for displacement and TC/CVT > AMT > DCT
I think that is the problem with Honda, they just want to provide us with what you people but not what people want. Need a panaromic sunroof? No you just want it. Want a turbo? No you don't need it either. Want a decent touch screen infotainment system? Naah, don't listen to the Koreans, those are just gimmics. Want a big SUV? Trust me you're better off with the civic.
get off your high horses team, people just want to hear your opinions on cars, not your opinions on what people "need". Nobody "needs" to watch your RUclips channel for example, maybe you should consider that next time before lecturing.

Yes !
I absolutely ❤ my GT TSI, completing 10 yrs of ownership in the next few days !
😊
1.0 Turbo petrol these days is coming in lot of cars. Those cars have way too bad efficiency. Single digits in city.
100% agree. Proud owner of the honda city 5th gen NA ivtec no-nonsense car. Best decision I ever made!
Yes. This is True. Below 2k RPM there's no power in turbo petrol manuals. So you try to keep it above 2k RPM always. There goes your fuel efficiency.
Honda City 5th gen vs Virtus highline
-Honda Most powerful NA engine even better than 1.0 tsi
-Virtus rear seat very uncomfortable recline angle
-Virtus steering very halka.. Honda steering feedback is just unbelievably good

-Stiffer Chassis Honda
-Practical features like ADAS, touch sensors on handles, walk away lock system, automatic side mirrors, frame less auto rear mirror, lane watch camera etc.
-Honda 4 Cylinder engine... refinement level & feel next level , powerful AC etc.
- Manual gear box of Honda is one of worlds best.. slick Shift amazing gear box

So NA engine with CVT should be my go to?
Torque converter
Absolutely!! Turbo adds lot of extra parts, stresses engine which needs better maintenance and mileage isn't great, i felt NA creta IVT was butter smooth and enough for city and highway.
What about elevate?
@@somnathchatterjee1469 That's what was on my mind, or new Amaze
@@muttineni03 To be honest, I was happy driving even Alto on highways and hills. So, I don't understand, why people want turbo on their 1.0, 1.2 and even 1.5?
Just to overtake others? How egoistic and self centered people are? or what a marketing trick played by the brands...
In a country where when buying a car people think about
KITNA DETI HAI.
So you agree you need turbo diesel? But don't need petrol turbo revving in wrong band?
Due to the stricter norms it doesn't make sense for MS to make diesel engines . Gadkari hates diesel engines.
Suzukis k series NA engines are the best reliable engines❤
Could someone help with the number of kilometers a creta 1.5 NA CVT should run before doing a transmission fluid change?
Ir's proper fun in sportmode.. hehe.. The lag is well covered by the tc gearbox and there is power everywhere
turbo -TURBO- is just a catchy word there's just a kick in that word like JW & JD
I was dying to buy the Verna Turbo but due to the budget and my family talking sense to me went with the NA SXO. Couldn't be happier.
Brave discussion❤
Buy the 2024 stock and save money
A small turbo to boost low end torqe and 1.1-1.3 l petrol engine would be great. Sub litre turbopetrols are both underpowered and inefficient at the same time. And overstressed too. Also, reviewers should weigh the car because most manufacturers do not mention kerb weight anywhere. Also, dct is still very unreliable in low torque engines. Today, nexon diesel with dct is the most drivable powertrain in
Nexon diesel has amt
@BabaYaga1136 Tata just launched diesel DCT variant. Stay up to date. Data is cheap and information is free now.

Reliability = NATURALLY ASPIRATED
Latest doesn't mean best....I don't know why ppl still believe that
@ People believe many things that are utter rubbish or untrue or fiction like mythology. People believe what they are conditioned to believe. Tech companies and brands blasts us with an unending stream of latest is equal to best myth. A lie spoken again and again becomes the truth of the day.
The conversation started or seemed to start with whether we should go for turbo.
Eventually it turned out to he everything else
Once you drive turbo
Especially of vw/hyundai
There is no going back
After listening to this, I don't need Turbo petrol, I get it. But I want to get Kia Carens, do you suggest Carens NA over Turbo DCT?
You should have chosen verna turbo it has better handling and dynamics with more comfort
@ if i had to had to choose a sedan, it will be Virtus any day. Verna’s suspension is too soft !
Looking forward to your transmission use case break down video!
A Honda MT I have found works great for city as well as highways
Turbo saves tax❤❤❤. I have a polo 1.2 TSI. Power is equivalent to 1.5NA.
The one saying owns a multistrada, and tuono
Tax structure is making people go for turbos. More power and torque at lower tax.
Manufacturers do not in their brochures mention the rpm when the turbo kicks in. So people can't judge by the spec sheet alone. Have to depend on reviews for this information
Who buys Creta for the engine? Nobody knows what engine they have under the bonnet. As long as they can honk and flash LED they are set.
We should have option to choose between 100% Petrol or it's Ethanol mixed version.
Very relevant food for thought.
every question is unanswered just a good GD class 😂😂
So i just need an auto rickshaw to drive in the city. They are much efficient and quicker than cars in the traffic 😂
In city only electric is needed now. Windsor is more than enough
Seem like an interview by a top interviewer
This is the reason why I bought city hybrid over virtus GT and slavia.
Buying a car is a very emotional purchase decision. If it was rational, there wouldn't be any sports cars or luxury cars in the market
How about a "Dual-potato transmission" up next? I simply enjoy Schumi Sir's one-liners :)
You have all time turbo engines; the supercharger does that.
How did u miss mahindra xev9 and BE6E launch?
I say, NA above 1.2 litres should be fine. 1.0 NA and below are definitely under powered and even in city it will be sluggish. classic case is Kiger 1.0 NA vs Turbo. after a test drive with fully loaded back seats if you are happy, then go for NA.
also, turbo engines are notoriously fuel guzzlers. mileage on all turbo cars are horrible at low speeds.
Very interesting point ….i did take a test drive of new Alcazar, I am dragging my feet especially when my current car is 1.5 NA CITY !
What would be your advice guys ?
Verna turbo is my pick
Go for new alcazar i owned it happy with milage 😅
Shumis sarcasm is getting out of hand!! 🤣
And then reviewers complain honda doesn't have a turbo petrol
Shumi loved ur shirt❤
Exactly i don't need a turbo but want a turbo but can't afford a turbo 😂
Nothing beats EV in the city...nothing
Indeed we dont need MacDonald, best line in the whole video. 🤓😁👌
Interestingly, both talking about want and need. Wearing similar smartwatches, do they really need it or wanted it? 😜
NA V8’s are the way to go
Turbo C.N.G 😍
Are you going to cover THE KTM new 390 ADVENTURE S? Every other rookie reviewer has already talked about it.
What we don’t need is a condescending podcasts !!
Says the guy who has Hayabusa. Bhai city se bahar bhi to jaunga...
I am planning for automatic on C3, this car is having only turbo engine option for automatic. Is it good choice or not? I am first time buyer.
I own a turbo petrol. Wouldn't recommend one for a new driver. It can be your second car, not first.
Criticizes turbo's and then buys one
Turbo is needed for a 1.0 ltr engine. Which will deliver fuel efficiency at lower rpm in city and power and torque at higher pm on highway for over taking or on inclined roads. No one can say a car will always be running in the city. Most of them drive for weekend gateway or to visit native or outing.
hey...I'll buy the chevrolet spark
..
This conversation was incomplete. Having more context in favour and against would have completed it. (My view)
Not expected this out of you Kartik. Respectfully totally disagree with you.
Brilliant!
get off your high horses team, people just want to hear your opinions on cars, not your opinions on what people "need".
Nobody "needs" to watch your RUclips channel for example, maybe you should consider that next time before lecturing.
No no no no... In wat or need and want need wins... There are some latent and blatent needs... Mc Donald Starbucks are latent needs... For eg. Mc Donald has tapped into quick serve /evening snack at low prices with ample sitting..... Starbucks is a high class meeting place for people who cannot meet at office or house....
If we are podcasting our understanding of business cases have to be deeper..
