Agreed. While I love the way Bajaj works, and I love how they make very efficient bikes, I didn't order a pulsar or a ktm because I don't get that royal feeling that I'll get when riding a bear 650. Bajaj makes bikes for those who can't own more than one vehicle and want a trustworthy machine for all kinds of usage while RE is bought mostly by those who probably own another vehicle for most of the actual travelling needs.
Bajaj tunes more chassis than RE will. Bajaj has access to better chassis designs that they can incorporate. RE is overly overconfident of their 4 chassis designs that they think it's okay to slap anything on our invincible chassis. Bajaj probably has better tuning blueprints.
They literally bought Harris performance for the very reason. after the purchase their chassis' were vastly improved over the whatever came until the UCE series of bikes.
With Triumph partnership, Bajaj is able to roll out about 2000-2500 motorcycles in the 400cc segment consistently now. Which was not the case before with the Dominar and Duke 390. Basically they have levelled up from the mass market 150-250s to the 400s now. That is where RE’s territory lies. Both Bajaj and Triumph now have the common enemy. I say Triumph because RE is making inroads in the UK big time with their retro singles and the twin. So, this partnership will go a long way with more motorcycles or variants of 400s
The thing is that RE is selling bikes in North America and Baja is not and maybe they don't need it or wanted, so we buy RE and enjoy it, they are not the best bike in the market, but each time I rode my Interceptor it gave me a big smile and that's hard to beat!😊
Actually this is what I experienced recently I live in Dehradun .So we recently received triumph dealership in Dehradun I can see triumph speed 400,scrambler 400 X everywhere. There are 4 bikes in my locality and And in my area it is as common as any other royal enfield I believe
RE just makes "gedi maarne wali" bikes, they are amazing but still they are amazing at slow speed bikes....WHEREAS bajaj is making bikes for everything and everyone, for all purposes.......❤️❤️❤️ Bajaj for this
No way you’re saying that the guerilla and the Himalayan are very fast..in fact the guerilla is faster than any bike in its segment apart from 390 duke And 650s were never slow
@manjugoku6206 that's good for people who are happy with seeing numbers on a paper.....bajaj is doing and is remaining true to itself in what it does for its customers
I think Bajaj should make a retro bike based on 220f engine. Because that is their legacy bike , legacy engine which has been there for years. It refuses to die . It would be nice to have a retro bike based on the classic Pulsar with round headlight. Bajaj can actually have a chance to compete with RE Hunter 350 and kill its sales because what the Hunter 350 lacks is raw power and performance despite having a sporty neo retro roadster design. Bajaj actually has a lot of showrooms and service centres which Honda Bigwing, Classic legends, Hero-HD or TVS don't have in abundance. They actually can sell around 15 to 20k units per month.
RE strategy is more viable in the long run. Creating new platforms is expensive and when you have to make a profit in all the platforms individually it's harder than just making 5 bikes with one well thought out platform. Another very important thing I just realised is that, updating and refreshing multiple platforms and bikes must be very difficult, but bajaj does not fail in many cases but RE even with a smaller range of products never does refresh/update in a 5 year forget multiple times within a year.
A Dominar with an LC4C engine, less weight, TFT display and rider aids... Just dreaming 😊 Also if Bajaj buys up KTM, the tech and aesthetic advancements will be noticeable
BAJAJ - has in their last two or three products it’s been a silent revolution - NS400z & Freedom125. RE - has in their last two or three products it’s been a loud shrill - Guerrella450 & Bear650. Bajaj appealed larger audience - 400z by Price & Freedom125 by mileage and powertrain. RE appealed who? - Guerrella looks are odd & Bear is for humans over 6’ and above. Seems it’s clear who’s going to win…
Bajaj will always be a product oriented company while RE has a strong brand and has moved towards becoming a company selling a lifestyle. Bajaj may have 20 pulsars but almost all are commuter bikes. RE is not selling a commuter. It's selling a riding lifestyle. In the long run brand outlives the product
Well both approaches have diff benefits, but eventually a combination of both will be the best approache. It will carter to all segments and price class.
to kartik’s comment on the swipe of t400 on classic, a classic buyer may buy a bullet 350 but he wont go for T400 , a hunter buyer think of buying it at 2.00 lakh can extend budget to buy t400 at2.3 maybe a possibility and bajaj wants that only thats why after 3 months of no so good sales and piling inventory they have revised the price at 1.99 lakh
Bajaj split is very similar to what the American car manufacturers in the past ie a product at every price point and today they same car companies are struggling against those that caters to a specific niche. If RE can keep the current momentum, they might come out on top because it will always end up being an aspirational homegrown brand with a higher profitability and save the original pulsar Bajaj bikes is more of a commodity and still continue to be financially viable purely on number of sales.
Both are good strategies.. We’ll have to let the market decide eventually.. There are some hardcore Royal Enfield loyalists who are going to fight on their behalf😂
In 2019 many of us are wishing for RE to put that 650 engine on Himalayan!! And they are doing it right now!! I own a 411 Himalayan, looking for an upgrade and the new 450 didn't felt like a big upgrade from 411 for me. I rented the bike for 15 days and rode in Ladakh. It's a great bike, but that's not what I would call as an upgrade. I expect something more powerful for that weight & something that is more agile. On the other side Triumph just launched 400X, getting closer to perfection in the segment. End of the day Bajaj & Co., just need to figure out a low cost version of 660 CC & that will be end of this chase. May be it's too late for RE to bring 650/750 on an ADV. They need better platform that is lighter and agile!
Even though Triumph 400 cc bikes are a hit in terms of performance & technicals, the sales numbers don't really reflect how amazing these bikes are. Whats your take on this? Are these bikes not priced aptly or Bajaj's marketing efforts have not been able to garner good enough sales?
They are priced premium and Triumph brand is meant to be so, otherwise there won’t be any difference between Bajaj and Triumph. Triumph customers are willing to pay that premium. Both models are doing very well globally, bringing in new people to Triumph brand fold.
It is like one works in closed variants and another in open variants. And Eicher motors(the parent of RE) has been targeting the niche, minimalist and classic design. RE was never meant to be sold to everyone, it is a hype and lesser number of consumers will purchase it in the long term.. until then they need to work on convenience and comfort in order to sustain in the long term. Both will survive, the one who will doom is “Hero”, for sure.
I think the RE strategy works for a reason. Our country's laws are very much against mods. There are certain place in our country that is so strict that even changing the seat can get you in trouble. So with RE they take one product and cater it t whatever style every person likes(not that any other brand hasn't tried this) but this wasn't done to this level in India. you take one product, make a Roaster, cafe racer, bobber, cruiser and one for the OG bullet audience. you take another product that is more affordable do the same. your competitors are getting faster. make the guerilla and the himalayan 450,there's probably a sporty bike and a scrambler coming up probably. Yes parts are obviously gonna be shared across models, like it has always been with all brands, sometimes across brands or sometimes rebadged.
It is like one works in closed variants and another in open variants. And Eicher motors(the parent of RE) has been targeting the niche, minimalist and classic design. At some point after gathering all the good data, Bajaj will ditch all the partnered brands for good.
Its the RE which is leaving Bajaj behind up until now with that strategy. The people buying RE are now buying for practical reasons, unlike earlier for show off or a status symbol.
Sir in Bajaj their are major quality improvement... . Even they are only one having Avenger as proper crusier.. . Service is the main thing separately both brands in order to beat RE, Bajaj should work more on their service. The main driving factor for Royal Enfield is their service which is quick and affordable.
I am a RE fan boy currently owning a Int650. But i see Bajaj's strategy winning in the long run. Wish RE put in better effort to serve their customers. Its a pain to live with RE. I hate the pillion seat and very poor suspension and handling.
I honestly think RE will come out at the top because of its niche market with a huge fan base, at the end of the day doing one thing better will come out at the top

RE pulled out himalayan which no brand would dare to do it. New himalayan is 5x better. People mindset will be to buy a hunter or any other RE coz they appreciate himalayan.
+ Bajaj creates a new bike to target one segment of Royal Enfield. This means Bajaj has more headroom to upgrade, improve and modify the bike over time as per customer wants and needs. + RE is churning out multiple vehicles from one platform (with small changes) which limits the amount of improvement they can do- Hunter's engine from Classic limits the chassis from delivering better performance. Also the awful suspension. + All these sound like Bajaj SHOULD come out on top. But it will be much more expensive for Bajaj than RE in this approach as creating a new platform/ bike will require all kinds of investments, expertise, not to mention the specialized skill required for after sales support.
so the flaw in bajaj ‘s thinking is that they think by making things more faster/more premium looking lighter bike, they can challenge RE but practically a 350cc enfield buyer is not getting same product in bajaj portfolio. neither in jawa nor in honda portfolio- the heavy , thunpy feel. so basically only some 10000 ppl every month want to buy something else than enfield and no matter how mnay products you launch it will go in that pie only, rest 70000 is pure enfield 350cc only❤
Not sure why Hero and Speedbrain partnership has not given us a bigger cc rally bike other than what they do in dakar. Xpulse 400+ is well overdue and with their enormous dakar experience, it's time their experience materlise in real world bigger cc adv.
X440 and Mavrick are good bikes..Both developed by Hero.Xpulse 421 is more complicated as its an LC engine powering it..Better to perfect it before launching than briskly launching a half baked product..
Hello Motorinc, can we have a long podcast discussing Dakar 2025? Talk about Rally Bikes, Cars their technologies, how much the technology has evolved etc. This time first ever Indian Car rally driver Mr. Sanjay Takale has taken part in the rally. Can we talk about Hero's journey in Dakar? Indians don't know much about this rally, it would be great if you have the conversation around it. @motorinc
Oh I feel Royal Enfield is more like Porsche than Bajaj. They have various product lines like Macan, Cayenne, 911, GT4 RS, Taycan, But the point mentioned here, of the variants of the products the ST, Carrera, Turbo, Turbo S, GT3, GT3 RS, GT2 RS They are more or less based on the same platform. GT4 RS is based on the 718. So in that sense I feel it is more like RE, where they have a platform in every segment, 350, 650 and then variations on that platform. Just my opinion. But while I was typing this, I get where Kartikeya comes from, maybe the fact that they had Panamera as well it may have triggered this. But I feel it is not Porsche, its just that Audi has so many variants with RS3, RS4, RS6 with estates and their SUVs, it is maybe easier for Porsche to pick and choose the platform they want to reuse, but their core remains the 911s which are variations of the same platform. Would love to hear your comments though.
I think that the Speed T4 engine feels Decidedly like a Bajaj Product more than a Triumph, mainly in that it is a Detuned and Destressed version of a Larger motor, think the Dominar engine vs the KTM 373cc. I Sincerely hope that Bajaj gets a Chance to cook with that and put it in some Retro bikes of their own, say the Avenger which has been collecting dust so far.
It sounds like Samsung vs apple. Apple charge premium slow updates but sometimes major change but it works otherwise just pulling same thing with different name. Bajaj is like android samsung putting product at all range all the features but failing to sell premium ones.
Not anytime soon. If bajaj will go for RE bread & butter RE will go for bajaj bread & butter. RE is onto targetting bajaj PREIMUM brands & its own economy products . With upcoming products in 250 cc segment & 750 cc segment
I think Royal enfield is a very different brand, bajaj or any other brands aren't able to compete with them It doesn't matter if they have a product or not, it's not about the product it's about the brand where Royal Enfield won without competition
In my opinion… Bajaj should rob some designers from RE hut and RE should kidnap some engineers from Bajaj.. 🤪 Then we’ll have balance, good bikes with great designs/colors from different brands to choose from😈
RE is successful because of their marketing and emotional brand image they have made. And they have also been innovating new engines and designs. Bajaj I don't think they have any strategy in mind. They are earning from making bikes for ktm and triumph. They have lost touch with bike brand bajaj. We are not seeing any new engine or design from bajaj. They have stopped innovating. They have to keep bajaj as a brand separate from bajaj who makes bikes for ktm and triumph......just my view...
Retiring the brand and bringing it back to work Bajaj does it quite often.. I purchased NS 200 in 2012 and they stopped making it in 2017 but again they brought it back l. So they will do the same with dominar as well...
Husqvarna is not seen almost anywhere. Triumph 400 are also very less, hardly seen two in 2024. Dominar is more common, 250 did not work but 400 is in good numbers.
I personally think Royal Enfield is going downhill. Their after-sales service is utterly pathetic. Except for the Classic 350, all of the RE bikes are pretty similar.
The whole conversation is going on wrong side If we take last 4 yr in technological advancement....Can u compare RE and bajaj. RE created inhouse new engine 650 cc and 450 cc and remodified the 350 cc in comparison what is advancement of bajaj. Technology sourced first from KTM and now triumph. Where is bajaj innovation???????????
I think RE is doing just enough for you to pay a little more for their bikes without there being any solid reason for you to do so. This irrationality and you falling for it is whaat I think will make RE a premium brand. This is assuming they do improve the mechanical aspect of their machines and keep making them better. This will be them doing more than enough.
There is a very versatile bike called yamaha xsr (very famous in sea region)which looks better in caferracer, scrambler, modern retro style but i hope they dont launch in india because it will flop from day one these gawar audiance will compare it with RE and make fun of it.
RE fans are the reason. See what they did to cb 350. A bike which is 10-15 years ahead of RE 350 but still people choose RE because it has emotion. So why even bother bringing bikes knowing it will flop
Bajaj is so pathetic, they wanted to take on RE so they launched dominar 400, dominar failed to make a dent on RE sales. Now since Bajaj know they can’t take on RE anymore, they brought gonda ( triumph ) to beat RE. 😂

+ All these sound like Bajaj SHOULD come out on top. But it will be much more expensive for Bajaj than RE in this approach as creating a new platform/ bike will require all kinds of investments, expertise, not to mention the specialized skill required for after sales support.
What is the band Shumi is wearing?
so the flaw in bajaj ‘s thinking is that they think by making things more faster/more premium looking lighter bike, they can challenge RE but practically a 350cc enfield buyer is not getting same product in bajaj portfolio. neither in jawa nor in honda portfolio- the heavy , thunpy feel. so basically only some 10000 ppl every month want to buy something else than enfield and no matter how mnay products you launch it will go in that pie only, rest 70000 is pure enfield 350cc only❤
Not sure why Hero and Speedbrain partnership has not given us a bigger cc rally bike other than what they do in dakar.
They have various product lines like Macan, Cayenne, 911, GT4 RS, Taycan,
But the point mentioned here, of the variants of the products the ST, Carrera, Turbo, Turbo S, GT3, GT3 RS, GT2 RS
They are more or less based on the same platform.
Makes me wanna try a Bajaj!
I have bajaj ,tvs, royal Enfield. And i am not disappointed
Original RE is now Himalayan 411 a.k.a Scram 411
Not anytime soon. If bajaj will go for RE bread & butter RE will go for bajaj bread & butter. RE is onto targetting bajaj PREIMUM brands & its own economy products . With upcoming products in 250 cc segment & 750 cc segment
I think Royal enfield is a very different brand, bajaj or any other brands aren't able to compete with them It doesn't matter if they have a product or not, it's not about the product it's about the brand where Royal Enfield won without competition
I'm suffering from my pulsar cheap quality rear suspension second set.
When is Yamaha RX100 launch???
Right...its gonna be super interesting if someone at Porsche sees this and decides to come in to get Bajaj to manufacture a small car for them LMAO!
If bajaj launches tiger 400 or 450 at agressive price that would shake the mid range
Nothing damages Royal Enfield more than their abysmal sales and service and quality control. Love the bikes but owning them is a headache
RE sold almost 80k models Dec 2024.
In my opinion…
Bajaj should rob some designers from RE hut and RE should kidnap some engineers from Bajaj.. 🤪
Then we’ll have balance, good bikes with great designs/colors from different brands to choose from😈
RE is successful because of their marketing and emotional brand image they have made.
Expected Bajaj to make Bigger capacity Avenger but lost hope.
14% market share vs 5%, RE is far far behind. 30-year-old oversized and underpowered engines are not of everyone's liking.
5 brands and the bank is wide open, yet Rajiv is wondering how to Rob! No they can’t.
Bajaj should launch the avenger facelift, the game will change
And Honda meanwhile designs it's New Activa....
Honda has cb 350 which is 10 years ahead of RE 350
Our gawar audiance still picks RE because of emotion.
India dont even deserve activa
Time for Bajaj to acquire classic legends rather than ktm complete stake.
Very perceptive, guys..
Bajaj wins may be🤷🏻♂️
With everything happening to KTM do you guys think Bajaj should buy them out, will they buy them and if yes to either why?
The T4 might kill the Gixxer 250s
I personally think Royal Enfield is going downhill. Their after-sales service is utterly pathetic. Except for the Classic 350, all of the RE bikes are pretty similar.
The whole conversation is going on wrong side
If we take last 4 yr in technological advancement....Can u compare RE and bajaj.
RE created inhouse new engine 650 cc and 450 cc and remodified the 350 cc in comparison what is advancement of bajaj.
Technology sourced first from KTM and now triumph.
Where is bajaj innovation???????????
ns 200, rs 200?
BAJAJ 💪⚡
Bajaj has no R&D they just have money so they just bought KTM and have a partnership with other top tier OEM.
Is Bajaj gonna become the Volkswagen of India!?
Retro wont work with bajaj ... retro needs legacy...
porsche doesn''t do the same thing. even at conceptual level the are completely on the opposite side.
What happened to KTM bro. seems like they are packing bags to leave india!? any thoughts.
So the Avenger cruiser 400 is just a hyped myth?
No off-road from Bajaj
400x, ktm adv
@ramkaistha0 ohh.... From the pulsar series' 😬
What’s wrong with Japanese brands? They are happy with just 100-200 cc segment Bikes and Scooters.
We want 250 triumphs
Avenger 400 Rajiv bhai 🙏🥲
RE 💪🏼
