I'm running Virtus 1.5 since 2 years+ now. I have to say this is a no nonsense car for a person if they love driving.
Points which I love about it :
    1. Visual Design of the car. Makes it premium and looks amazing.
    2. Headlights are great in night.
    3. Driving posture for long drives are great.
    4. DSG works flow less on highways and good city roads.
    5. Love the handling.
    6. The silence was is crazy good.
    7. Boot space is very practical.
    8. Infotainment UI is great.
    9. Mileage on highway is superb - around 18 KM/L - 20 KM/L if you drive 80-100KM/H
    Points to consider :
    1. Not a fan of the AC control. I always have to look at it.
    2. Rear seats are best when 2 people are sitting. It's not great for 3 people but they can adjust.
    3. DSG doesn't like bad road. It does a sudden downshift.
    4. Mileage is around 6-8 km/L in city traffic.

as a 23-year-old, i had the opportunity to buy a car. i test-drove almost every car in the price range of the virtus 1.5L, but nothing came close(except cabin experience). i test-drove the virtus multiple times, got a great offer, and chose the 1.5L manual.
oh man, it felt like the best decision i’ve ever made in my life. since then, i’ve been splitting my salary-prioritizing car expenses (fuel, fastag, maintenance) first and keeping the leftover money for myself.
every time i take my car out after a long gap, like 15 days, i still get goosebumps.
yes, the ac isn’t top-notch, the cabin isn’t premium, and the window operation feels squeaky.
but who cares about those things when your body feels perfectly connected to the car? it does exactly what i think, places itself precisely where i want without any strain, holds up wherever it matters, and flies when i need it to.
and karthick, that was a 10-minute poem, man. respect to you and your team for the amazing work.

Loved the video. As a virtus 1.5 GT owner with 30k on the odo would agree with most points you made. The car feels a part of you and talks to you on roads and ways best described by you. On your pros and cons: Sound system is pretty good in its segment except mahindra's and AC while not the best can handle upto 40 degrees. Biggest con is the 90's reverse camera. The pro of that is that i am still used to backing using side mirrors keeping my skills intact unlike the 360 degrees camera.;)

I have a VW Virtus 1.5 GT DSG.
The car is amazing on highways, like Kartik said, it urges you to go faster and feels planted as well.
However, it is really bad on slow speed roads.
So if you have frequent speed bumps on the road or you are slowing down for potholes, the car will very quickly shift down to D1. This shift gives a jerk and then when you accelerate, the shift to D2 comes at around 2.5K RPM and that sounds like you are unnecessarily revving out the engine.
You cannot manually shift the gear to D2 as well as in this case.
Not a deal breaker but something to keep in mind.
If you are taking a test drive, I would highly recommend to take it on a road where you know there are potholes or speed humps to make sure you know what it feels like.

Well, I'm driving 1.5L with DSG from quite some time now. When you continuously revv it hard at D1, it will take some time to move to D2. Same from D2 to D3. You should revv it for sometime and then give a pause. It will move to D2 automatically. The DSG is intelligent and works smartly.

I've been driving the 1.0 Highline Manual for 20 months now. It has been behaving like a dream. I knew of the shortcomings while making the purchase but as soon as I took the test drive, my heart said, "chuck it!", and that was the end of the story for the whole car buying journey of mine.
33000 kms down the line, it has thrown zero niggles at me, and the experience has retained its excitement and freshness for me. The mileage in Mumbai (over around 4000 kms) was at 10-11 kmpl. Moving to Delhi, it has now gone up to 13- 14 kmpl. The service pack is a boon, zero cost incurred over two yearly services.
Bonus for me has been the kind of ungodly speeds it holds with grace and composure that no other car south of 30 lakhs can possibly do.
Absolutely cherish the car. I call mine Elsa, and she is definitely a beauty.

I couldn't agree more with Karthikeya's analysis - sedans truly excel on the road, offering a refined balance of comfort, performance, and style. However, even though I'm not traditionally a sedan person, my garage tells a different story with a 2024 Tata Safari, a crossover, and a 2024 Suzuki Jimny, a robust off-roader.
I’ve always seen crossovers as the middle ground between sedans and SUVs - essentially, sedans with a station wagon silhouette. But I have to say, the Safari completely shatters any preconceived notions about crossovers being mere "blended" vehicles. It genuinely feels like a palace on wheels. The comfort is next-level. After a long, grueling 700-kilometer journey, I felt as though I’d just stepped out of a luxury lounge rather than a road trip. The cabin is spacious, the materials are top-notch, and the ergonomics are impeccable - you don’t even realize how much time you've spent on the road. It’s a vehicle built for long-distance drives, offering a level of relaxation that sedans and SUVs alike struggle to match.
And then there’s the handling - absolutely amazing. While many might think a crossover's higher ground clearance would hinder its agility, the Safari defies expectations. Its handling around corners is sharp and responsive, giving you confidence even at higher speeds or on winding roads. There’s something deeply satisfying about how it tackles sharp turns with minimal body roll, making it feel more like a sedan than the towering SUV it technically is. Despite its size, it feels nimble and composed, almost as if it anticipates the road ahead.
So, while I still appreciate the practicality and efficiency of a sedan, the crossover has truly won me over in terms of sheer comfort and driving pleasure. The Safari, in particular, has redefined my expectations of what a road trip can feel like. And when paired with the Jimny for off-road escapades, I feel like I’ve got the best of both worlds - a refined, long-distance cruiser and a rugged off-roading machine

    Hi MotorInc,
    Thanks!
Really enjoy watching your videos such good content with unbiased reviews. Specially the conversation between Kartikeya & Shumi.
I test drove the Virtus GT and went ahead with purchasing the Slavia Sportline 1.5 DSG, only based on how it looks.
After driving 4k KMs in 1.5 months, My Experience with Car have been amazing & rightly said who cares!! as long as you enjoy driving!
    My Observation:
    1. The 1.5 TSI Engine in terms of tech is way ahead of the competition. And the DSG works like magic!
    2. The Mileage depends on the driver. If you keep it under 80-100Kmph easily you can get 16-19kmpl.
    3. The Handling of the car is really amazing feels rock solid at any speeds and always feels i have control on the car.
    4. Build quality is excellent for the metal used and paint quality are commendable. once you enter the car you feel very safe.
    4. Very comfortable for 4 ppl not for 5 onboard though.
    5. The Cabin experience is just as average since the plastics are not of good quality. And there are rattling issues but not very annoying.
    6. Music system is good but not as good as the competition.
I did my research and went ahead with VW-Skoda product since they offer a value for money product in terms of build quality, engine & gearbox technology they offer, as compared to the market which they offer with all the fancy feature which you won't use as the time passes.
If you plan to purchase the Virtus GT please have a look at Slavia which has launched Monte Carlo & Sportline version they look beautiful, sportier and cheaper than Virtus by 1L (Bengaluru).

Amidst all the crossovers (mini, compact, micro), it’s great to see a sedan that will for sure age well. VW service being the only unknown here, the car will be a delight for owners.
However, something that still doesn’t sit well with me are the interior plastics and the AC. An MG ZS (Astor) has a superior experience given it has access to same VW parts bin. And about the AC, I’ve a friend who drives a Slavia who keeps cribbing about how long it takes for the AC to cool the cabin. Just hope it’s sorted soon enough.

Love the review, we have a kushaq in our family based on same platform and were one of the first to go for it as soon as it was announced, it's great that VW group never gave up and still is persistent with their offerings. Virtus has to be one of the only vehicles in it's class that actually makes me want to go for a sedan, rest don't do anything for me, that design is a major plus. I am awaiting on first impressions of the new Kylaq as I am thinking about getting it as my first car as it seems bang on value if we get a mid variant under or at least around 10L. After Kushaq for 3 years (which again was the first ever car in our family) we had a great experience with that engine, I am eager to go for Kylaq even though Virtus was my first choice but way past my budget, so excited hear what you have to say about that car hopefully soon.

I have the 1.0 TC automatic, over 28k KM done, needed the automatic and 1.0 was the only option in budget.
I have owned and driven (wagonR, i10, i20, altroz DCT)
I found the Virtus's TC really good, it is smooth and nice, though it usually stays one gear lower than expected sometimes to give you that quick acceleration if required.
It gives an average of 10-13kmpl in city, and 17-20 on highways depending on how light footed you are.
The only niggle I faced is the driver side's window's automatic up/down function not working as expected. Also the AC is obviously below power but livable for my requirements.
It is a bful car to look at and drive and it made me fall in love with sedans all over again.

Guess what? Even the Polo got slammed for a ton of things-small boot, cramped rear seats, plasticky interior, you name it. And now that it's gone, we're all left here wishing it would make a comeback! So cut us some slack and let us enthusiasts enjoy the ride without constantly being reminded that it's not some fancy, overpriced "premium" car. Let us have our fun without the judgment.

    yo great video as usual
was watching some of the old videos of you both from zigwheels and powerdrift
i really liked how u guys reviewed bikes , with some storyline especially the Rtr 200 and NS200 one
I do love the podcasts and absoloutely enjoy them , they are educating, funny etc
however sometimes as i viewer though we get small shots of videos
i as a viewer would like more videos
is there chance those types of vids would be made by motorinc where u guys roam around a city, drive bikes , and then suddenly u guys are in a cafe chatting about bikes i really liked that concept

For the price you don't have any competitors even near this car, in the video you speak as if there is a better car in the segment in terms of all engine feels, suspension, cabin experience, comfort, mileage. I just don't see any of that to be true and the mileage is so not in the single digits that's just crazy. The avg is around 14-15 in my experience in city which is amazing!

I am running virtus 1.0 higline AT for 8 months now, its has a punchy engine great looks, good handling on highways, very planted. I had an incident where on the highway there was a huge undulation and i was overtaking a car and the speed is around 130 and the car went airborne coming out of that undulation and it didn’t lost control stayed in the line , really felt it saved me at that moment.
Special mention to the engine and AT gear box in hills, it doesn’t stress the engine its smooth and effortlessly pulled 5 people with full boot over the munnar and ooty steepy roads even when the car comes to complete halt on the steep it moves comfortably ahead.
Fuel efficiency over the highway is around 15-17, the only concerning part for me is fuel efficiency in city bumper to bumper traffic , it gives between 6-7 where in the same place the same engine with manual gearbox gives 10. I wish they should have tuned the transmission a little to the indian traffic conditions so yeah rest of the points i agree with the shortcomings mentioned in the video.

Kartikeya, I've always respected and looked out for your perspective on auto-related developments (particularly your podcasts), but I have to disagree with some of the things you've mentioned about the Virtus.
I own a Virtus GT Plus 1.5L MT and the mileage is not an issue at all. You speak about single-digit numbers in the city, which may occur every now and then based on traffic, but it isn't the norm. Rather, I've been extracting 11-13kmpl on average in city conditions. Highways ofcourse, it is a different beast, when the ACT gets activated.
You then say the music system is average; perhaps, that is applicable to the initial batch of cars that came out soon after the launch in 2022, but since Oct 2023, the vehicles come fitted with a sub-woofer and amp which churn out excellent sound particularly if you gravitate to bass-based stuff. Infact I've had owners of premium vehicles (Fortuner and the like) who've stated that the sound system for Virtus is on par, if not better than what's present in their vehicles.
Finally, eye-of-the-beholder and all that, but I think the side view of the Virtus is brilliant and one of its strong suits. Agree with you about the rear though. Not great.

    • @motorinc
      @motorinc  14 часов назад

Hey Amar, great to have your take. We will check the audio angle again. But, have you tried the Verna’s Bose system?
Also, which city are you in? Fuel efficiency - you can seem from other users can vary dramatically.

    • @amarc4697
      @amarc4697 14 часов назад +1

@@motorinc Haven’t heard the Verna’s system but I’m reasonably certain that a bonafide audiophile wouldn’t call the Virtus’s sound system 'average'. Infact, one of the reasons I look forward to stepping into my Virtus is because of the audio quality on offer which enhances the driving experience. If I recollect VW had launched a "Sound edition" late last year, and if I'm not mistaken that came as a 7-speaker set-up whereas the GT variants come with 8 speakers. As cringeworthy as the branding appears to be, it's worth pondering why VW would pursue and promote something like "sound" if it was only going to come across as average in the market place.
You could be right about traffic density per city leaving a mark, but I’ve spoken to other Virtus 1.5 MT owners and they’ve called out a similar ballpark of 11-13. With the DSG gearbox perhaps things could be more challenging in traffic conditions.

oooo yes the famously unfamous ACs on VAG/ Skoda Quadruplets made me think to look at other options. living in a city where almost 9 months temperature runs at 35-40 AC is one thing which has to be top selection criteria... however good the cars are to drive and have fun had to drop Slavia or Virtus from the list.. finally have gone with the tried and tested "the boring" Honda City with a "the boring" CVT this time.. took us sometime to zero down on City but finally its here now and just a week in can't find much faults with the decision

You said there’s a concern about its reliability,
This car completed the 24HRS driving test in triple digits speed, what more reliability you would expect??

That was a marketing activity. An impressive one. But, that doesn’t represent all the challenges of Indian conditions.
