    The trick of using the glass or tile on top of your scale to measure and mix your ink earned a sub from me. That's ingenious! I hate mixing in the cup because you can never get all of the different colors mixed completely. Going to set myself up with that stuff this weekend.

    One way to easily add small amounts of pigments when mixing custom colors is to load the pigments in individual condiment bottles. These cheap bottles can quickly and efficiently drop a small amount of a pigment drop by drop until you hit the right amount on the scale. No more dabbing with the palette knife and then removing it when you add too much. Also a quart bucket with a paddle bit with a cordless drill is amazingly fast for mixing.

    I would wrap vinyl on the glass mane it would make it easier to clean and you won't have glass all over if you drop it 😭

      that's not a bad Idea just on the bottom so it wont shatter all over the place. look at you using that brain.

    • @dgoddard
      @dgoddard 3 года назад

      They make a clear "tape" that is pretty wide that you stick to carpet in new homes where you plan to walk. That way you don't get the new carpet dirty. That stuff works amazing to stick to glass to keep it from shattering all over. We used it to pull huge mirrors off of walls when they used liquid nails to stick them on. And, it's pretty cheap.

    Just put the cup that can carry 1000G on the scale. Zero it out. Put the base amount. Zero it out again. Put the pigment amount and zero out before the next pigment goes in. That glass is a waste of time.

    • @robmetchado6233

      I think he does that before that I think this is actually better because you will be able to mix the inks better than mixing it in the tub.

    • @SuperiorInk
      @SuperiorInk 3 года назад

      Cam didn't mention it real clearly, except at the very beginning when he was mentioning frustration "and all that shit",,, but one of the big reasons to do it this way is so that you can be very exacting with your pigments, until you got them all perfect. If you just blob them into a quart container, and make a mistake, it's a bitch (or impossible to fix) getting some of that exact color back out that you just blobbed too much in. Or sometimes the recipe gets confusing, and if you think you made a mistake, you can scrape off a whole color and re-do that one. The pigments are extremely concentrated, and the slightest bit that you are off, its shot. The pigment colors are measured in 100th of a gram increments. So, it's a nice way to not be dropping screwed up tubs of color in the trash.

    • @ThePrintLife
      @ThePrintLife  3 года назад +2

      It is way easier to get a good mix this way. Also less wastefull than using and throwing away plastic containers all the time. It also saves you money. Its also way cooler.

    • @Vanillagorilla7173
      @Vanillagorilla7173 3 года назад +1

      Have you ever tried lexan from home depot? Relatively inexpensive, damn sure not going to break it. Win, win, win. Until we do it again. Heath- Twisted Threads

    • @SuperiorInk
      @SuperiorInk 3 года назад +1

      @@Vanillagorilla7173 Unfortunately Lexan (polycarbonate plastic) scratches quite easily and would not stay completely smooth, and likely not be able to clean the pigments completely from any scratches. But... If you were very careful to use only plastic type mixing spatulas, that might just work okay. And it's cheap to buy more.
