Cheers bro, solid gold. Ordinarily undercutting is seen as a taboo in business, but whilst cost of living is raging and the only soundtrack seems to be a Joni Mitchell song, we need disrupters now more than ever. You make me want to take my car in for a service, but whilst I have time and not money, a bit of DIY is paramount. All the best.
Wicked video man. Very helpful. Im from New Zealand thanks so much from this side of the world. Nice. Informative. No bullshit. But slower enough to keep up... noice man !!
Good video, but a crucial detail was missed. At the end of the oil change, start the Mini. Put it in neutral, apply the emergency brake, then look underneath the car to make absolutely sure there is no oil leaking from the filter canister. If there's an oil leak, SHUT OFF the engine immediately. The O ring was split, or severed, when you were screwing the canister back in. This happens. If you drive off not knowing you split the O ring, and your oil drains out, you will cook your engine. Guaranteed. Borrow somebody's car, go buy a new O ring and replace the split one.
Personally I think 10k mile intervals is fine. But I would agree that the newer long life service intervals of 20k are just to long for the oil, even for premium oil it still gets very dirty and carbon builds especially on diesels. Good video, your lucky that oil filter wasn't sized I've seen it on them early minis many times. The newer version has a plastic housing!
TheMarshall85 changed my r50 oil filter today, I literally was hanging off a foot long breaker bar and a z550 fork, the crack was so loud I thought I’d snapped the bar.
Really enjoyed the video, I sense a bit of old school mechanic in you which I personally like. Question are you still a mechanic & would you be willing to give my 53 reg Mini Cooper the service you just did. Cheers Kim. PS I am in Ashford but you don't sound like you come from far away.
I appreciate the comment. Yes I just try to do what works and not over complicate things. I dont do as much as I used to, but I would be willing to point you in the right direction if needed. Add me to your facebook or instagram, its the best place to catch me
Great video👍 are these decent cars, thinking of buying one around the 2004 or 2005. There are a lot of negative comments out there, but some seem that they dont look after them.
hi bmac best vw golf vids around man thx from portugal, can you advice me if for a golf 4 1.4 99 the castrol oil and g13 coolant are the best? thank you
hi there i love watching your vids very very informal educational i got a request please can you make a timing belt and water pump change vid on b6 2007 passat tdi i tried to find video on youtube but there isn't any it would be a great help thanks and keep up the good work
BMAC VAGS Great video, impressive how easy you made it look like. How about coolant drain, flush, fill and burping on a Countryman? That would be awesome! Thanks man!
teacher can I ask you one question Hyundai Tiburon when it gets to regular temp than it turns off won't start till gets cool down again help please.I'm your subscriber...:)
MexiMan and Cheese Is it stuck because you can not get enough leverage on the wrench to loosen it, or because the flats on the housing got ruined trying to take it off ? Were you using the right size socket on it?
It saves going under the car and removing the drain plug in the sunp. A lot of newer cars also have under shields which when your working on the floor can be a pain. A lot of dealers on small services use oil extractors these days aswell. It sucks it through the dipstick tube.
TheMarshall85 how much oil is left behind compared to draining it from the drain plug? is it less than a half quart? as a test, maybe use the extractor, and then open the plug to see how much was left. if it's just a miniscule amount, I might get one of these, but if it leaves some of the oil, I'll stick to the regular methods.
its awlays better to remove the drain plug but sucking it out obviously has its advantages, time and place also it really does get the majority out, its negligible! you'd be surpsided what goes on even at prestige dealerships to save time on jobs etc, all techs are on flat rate bonus so its sales, sales, sales and get the jobs in and out! working at home without a ramp, its definitly easier to use an extractor from the top! alot of oil filters are accesible from the top these days aswell so no need to go under if its an oil service!
TheMarshall85 I don't doubt the quick oil change places would use whatever is quick and easy, but I have the time doing it myself to do a more thorough job, so if it leaves more than a half quart of the dirtiest oil in the sump, I'd just as soon crawl under there and drain it fully. I'm not against easy shortcuts as long as they are equivalent when it's done.
The solution to this cars is an easy one the garbage can. Pure garbage with wheels. Mini and BMW should seek advice from Toyota and Honda on how to build RELIABLE cars.

Great video. No fluff. I'm yet to get a quote from my dealer but will definitely check my options when I change the oil in my Mini One

Fair play guy making it simple
I watch your video and like that Gadget that you use to pump the oil out. where can I buy one?
this is a pretty good video, id suggest putting on some dielectric grease so your leads dont get stuck and rusty again also
1:52 "and that's the oil filter done"
That was the oil filter?
Very good video.
Love your vids. Really good knowledge and advice, thanks.
Oh clutch change is a nightmare :O But have to do this in mine MINI too

Brilliant video. Question is flushing oil needed whrn changing the oil?
Regular oil maintenance is better than flushing
hi bmac best vw golf vids around man thx from portugal, can you advice me if for a golf 4 1.4 99 the castrol oil and g13 coolant are the best? thank you
have you done anything on mk4 golf cooling system? I.e what does what, and what to do after flushing.
also anything on ignition coils?
You know when putting spark plugs in you first turn the other way till you feel a click then you tighten stops crossthredding
Great video, very informative.
Great video. Do you have that link for the oil extraction pump you used?

where do you get the oil extractor?

MexiMan and Cheese
Is it stuck because you can not get enough leverage on the wrench to loosen it, or because the flats on the housing got ruined trying to take it off ? Were you using the right size socket on it?
