    Just replaced my head unit. This video came in really handy. My install was a little different though. Mini 2005 - you need a Torx 30 for the pillars and Torx 20 for the fascia screws.
    You also need to I clip the trim under the steering wheel to access the top screw for the pillar. This is done by using a plastic trim removal tool on the top corners and it makes removing the screws much easier. For the passenger side you just open the glove box / cubby.
    The harness and antenna adapter were also slightly different. Harness was a CT20BM02 and I think the antenna needed a mini fakra to DIN adapter. I’ve ordered the antenna adapter but haven’t fitted it yet will let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the helpful video!

Of course that's because one time I mess up the wiring harness :) just got a r53, moving my kenwood from a e36. it looks like I can use the same wiring harness, but I'll find out soon enough.

  • @malp6280
    @malp6280 5 лет назад

    well I've a 2008 R55 clubman S & I've almost completed my double din install
    I'm saying kind of, as I'm awaiting a new aerial due to my pioneer stereo not being Dab enabled so I'm needing to refer back to old school
    anyway for a car with built in sat nav, parking aides etc once the double din is installed you loose it all. loosing the built-in sat-nav due to the sat-nav map/disk being removed & that takes all the controls away from the central screen so its now totally blank.
    Again with the central screen now being blank due to no signal from the stereo/sat-nav control units the parking aide reverse sensors don't ping anymore so that system is redundant.
    Also the 2 cup holders are also very limited now as any large can of pop/drinks will block the window switches or simply not fit, also the little cubby area forward of the gear stick is also now a lot smaller.
    to-do the job it'll take the best part of 3-4hours, easily 30-45mins removing all the dash that needs to be removed as its a lot "but is very easily done!" installing the stereo is again basic with only slight mods required for final fitment ie
    extending the stereo bold holes to give final fitment a good finish.
    trimming the replacement fascia to allow full function of the stereo & to allow the heater buttons to work, ie heated seat button catches with the fascia hence trimming of the insides required
    I've used the connect2 fascia & kit found all over ebay/amazon... again my radio issue I believe is down to DAB compatibility hence the aerial change.
    the overall benefits "the stereo sound sounds soooooooo much better!" I've played 1 cd & enjoyed every second compared to the basic stereo, also the function & basic options you've a much wider choice. any other functions I've not noticed to have lost any, except for now adjusting the clock on the tacho (unless I've turned blonde I cant remember how to adjust that) however the stereo has a large time display etc
    anyway for anyone wanting to do the job I'd highly suggest doing so

      To get the steering wheel controls working you would need one of two adaptors. Early Mini models used what is called BMW round pin connector block where as later (after 2006) had a quadlock connector.
      Here is an example for the later quadlock interface - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CTSBM005-2-Steering-Wheel-Stalk-Control-Adaptor-For-BMW-1-3-5-Series-E81-E90-E60/400407559966?epid=1805684839&hash=item5d3a267f1e:g:pm4AAOSwAuZX5kxf

    Hi, great video. My only question is what to do about the malfunctioning cd changer in the boot (04 cabrio r52). I'm not sure the head unit I have purchased supports it but, the fitting by means of a standard adaptor, it will also be connected up....... is that likely to be an issue?/ will it need to be disabled somehow? Appreciated.

      The original cd changer will not work with aftermarket radios,your best bet is to either remove it or ignore it.

      Plenty available so just consult a retailer. But check for a fitting kit as fitting a double din size screen may be a tricky.

    Hi, great video used this to install a Pioneer in my mini but have slight issue where no sound is coming from the system - would you know why that is? Thanks

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  5 лет назад

      I take it the original system had sound?
      If so one of three things springs to mind.
      1.Your new radio is faulty
      2.Your new radio is on mute setting
      3.You mini has the speakers running on a separate amp

      @@PJsprojects hi thanks should have added that the factory fitted stereo has sound and the amplifier is original new stereo might be a mute issue then? Next step need to work out how to un mute to see if that fixes it?!!!!

    After i swapped my radio i only get mono signal. When i play with the antenne cable i sometines get stereo signal. What could be the problem?

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  5 лет назад

      Sounds like the earth shield inside the cable is damaged or pulled away slightly from the plug. Only solution is to chop the plug off and wire a new one on.
      The cable has an inner and out section that can not touch each other so this can be fiddly to replace.

    Great vid, but can anyone tell me when you do all this does you control buttons on the steering wheel still work the stereo?

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  5 лет назад

      Not unless you buy a interface kit and the radio supports steering controls. EG - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-MINI-R53-2004-2006-Car-Stereo-Radio-Steering-Wheel-Interface-Aeriel-Kit/253034972439?hash=item3aea0f4517:g:5ZcAAOSw6QpbLOhl

    Hi how do you remove the trim to get to the top screw on the right?

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  4 года назад

      The trim is clipped in with a sort of large popper,try placing a plastic lever tool along the top edge of the lower trim where it meets the upper dash and popping it off.
