Doug I have already told you ..that I believe your going to be the carver that interest more people in woodcarving and whittling then I ever did and I love it ..And your going to do it without even trying too ... Your idea right now is what I believe is the roots of what most carvers want ..Thank you my friend for giving so much
I really appreciate what you do for the beginner woodcarver like me. Thanks for the great videos
@@ravinsilverado Thank you for your kind words
Gene, don't sell yourself short. Your tutorials/videos are GREAT and so inspirational!
@@lucylucy4166 Thank you ..But you dont sell yourself short by understanding others who help even more to promote a art that you have loved all your life ..Its a blessing to you
Thanks Gene -you know who i blame for all this lol
Welcome home to those of us who love the little carvings that give joy to folks when we give them away....
I’m super excited about this series of yours, Doug!! Keep up the good work! 🤩
Doug, It is so good to see you happy and enthused about your carving and life in general.. We all go through seasons of stress and it is good to find your passion again. Connecting with nature and enjoying the outdoors is always a good place to start. I look forward to the new playlist and any other videos you produce. Thank you for taking us along on the adventure.
Doug, I picked up this hobby at age 56 because of a video of yours that showed me it is not hard or expensive to get into. It was your owl carving video. I have been doing it 2 years now and do exactly what you are talking about; making little projects and giving them away. People love them. I am very excited about the upcoming 1 x 1 series. I can't wait to carve along with you!
As someone with a personal connection with Badger State Blades thank you so much for the shoutout, this is a from-the-ground-up female owned business that started with a crazy idea. This means the world to everyone involved to see the product in more and more carvers hands!
Enthused to return to my blades with this series…for my coffee and carving 2.0 ☕️☕️👍
This is my kind of whittling, I have been using 1 x 1 for a while. For me I order from Amazon I keep it simple because I don't have any big power saws so it's 1 x 1 for me. Thanks Doug I have learned so much from your tutorials I have been whittling for 6 months.
Yes, now I can use up all that 1x1 I bought a couple of years ago. My first carving was one of your bigger "Hillbillies" it'll be nice to make him a few little friends. It's Great to see you so enthused and happy getting back to the little folk. Cheers Doug.
Thais is what got me into the art and I too want to be the guy on the porch, in line waiting to be seated at a restaurant, at the mall chilling on the bench… carving making little cool wooden things. Creating my on own worlds at times.
You had some fun making this video too. Jeeping and whittling, that's new....going to be good.
This is going to be an awesome series. Thank you for creating it for all of us! Love your videos.
YES
Doug. You got me started in carving. And I try to keep it simple. I'll watch them all. I understand what you about losing some of the joy. I cant wait. Cutting blanks now. You go man.
I have a whole bunch of basswood blocks that are 1x1. I am born ready for this new series!
Count me in Doug!! I have wanted to do just what you are talking about as the simplicity is what whittling is all about. Well as a 11 year old Boy Scout back in the early 1950's whittling for us was pointing a stick as we sat around the fire.
Wow! Thanks Doug. I'm looking forward to the 1x1 series. Started my first carving watching and leaning from your earlier 1x1 videos. While the bark carvings were interesting it wasn't something I had the drive to time to do. You're attitude and approach to carving brings, as well as your incredible camera work brings me joy.
Hey, I just picked up the latest copy of Woodcarving Illustrated magazine and saw your picture. Congratulations on the 'Carving with Linker' partnership.
Yes! Let's make little treasures to warm the hearth 😍
Thanks Doug!! Always look forward to your videos. I too aspire to be a whittling grandpa!!!
Take care friend
I am jazzed. I have carved hundreds of your version of the 5 minute wizard. A lot of them in my truck or sitting on a curb while my grandson is at karate, yes I watched him to but after watch the same kick a thousand times I had to bail😂. I always carry a knife had have added some gouge’s and V tools to my truck bag. I love carving small branches to do I carry a folding saw in my truck also. Great idea and thank you.
Doug, you have your carving heroes-I have mine. It’s Doug Linker!
Great news Doug, It was your early Doug Outside videos that drew me in, the simple joy of carving is what kept me and you did lose me a bit when it got so serious. that said cant wait for you to "revisit " this hobby.
best wishes
Your excitement is palpable Doug. Thank you for being such a great teacher, and an even better mentor! God bless you brother.
Sounds like fun. I love to sit by a campfire and whittle. 👍
Doug, Welcome back! Carving and Coffee, Sycamore Sam, Fisherman carved on the beach, Paddle to the Sea and the Indian Village. Those were great. Glad you've come full circle.
hey Doug THANK YOU for making this new 1 x 1 series great projects and still learning and improving!
I saw my notification pop for this video and was looking forward to a quiet time to watch it. Sounds like a good summer coming up for you.
Thanks for filming Doug! 👍😁
Good to see your enthusiasm!
Simplicity in life is a beautiful thing and so is simple carving, thanks Doug- it’s going to be fun😊✌🏼
Guess this is the perfect time to start carving, loving that you are starting this Doug. I am brand spanking new to this and glad I found you from the start.
I wish to thank you for the Tutorials. My Beaver Craft kit will be delivered tomorrow with a carving glove and Strop. I also ordered 1.5” square by 6” long to start with. Hoping to do the Gnome hat and the hillbilly. I’m patiently awaiting for my journey to begin, and see where I end up. I’m glad my path has crossed yours and I do enjoy the simplicity of the art you so love. I’m a welding instructor by trade now working through becoming an electrician. This will be a nice way to enjoy my free time because I don’t watch tv. Now my RUclips is full on whistlers and it’s great.
Thank you once again, Travel well and be Safe.
Oh yay!!! I'm excited just listening to you talk about it! Woo-hoo! Thank you Doug!😊
looking forward to these. Fun is what keeps me whittling and simple is great around campfire at the lake or sittin on the porch watchin a sunset👍👍
Thanks Doug. Look forward to the series . Simple carvings not days on end to complete.
Found a new woodcarving tool maker today. Its called Stryi, and they are based in Ukraine. Not that I need any more knives (said no wodcarver ever),
but I'm all for supporting them at the present.
Doug, Cant wait for the new series. Always loved carving "Little People"
Oh, I love it! And I am gonna make me a travel box, just the minimum amount of tools!
You got me started carving 2 years ago and I wanted to say Thanks
MOSTEST EXCELLENT!!!!! I have been doing wood turning and cutting boards for a few years. Wanting to learn carving, I bought a couple sets of chisels and like everything else we learn how to to; started watching RUclips. :) Happened across a video of yours, and started binge watching. Ended up, a couple months ago, buying a starter kit if whittling knives and enjoying it. Frustrating as hell, but still having fun with it following along (at least attempting too). IMHO, you are the 'Bob Ross' of whittling and carving. Thanks much for doing what you do, and how you do it.
Great video! In theory, this is the reason why I started carving - it is a winter hobby in front of a fireplace, but also the thing to do in the evening in front of a fireplace, or sitting on the porch on a weekend, or visiting relatives and need to get away for a while (or carve for nieces and nephews), ....
Doug, thanks for all the inspiration and Ideas. I have been doing some larger carvings lately. I find myself enjoying them slightly less than doing some smaller ones. So this comes at a great time for me. Enjoy your channel alot.
I like to carve the small projects, keep my wood in my lunch pail and carve at lunch, little hard to do when u use bigger saws and lathes and it keeps me busy and happier
This is exactly the type of whittling I love, can't wait!
I'm excited too! Never leave the house without something to carve and my harmonica 🙏
Doug I love what you said about what inspired you to start carving. What a wonderful lighthearted contribution to making the world better one little block of wood at a time. Anyone receiving one of these from you (or any of you carvers out there) has a special gift indeed.
Any hints on removing the bloodstains from a carving? Or should I just say it is a feature. LOL
What a great idea. looking forward to a long run of these projects.
Love your videos... You are like the the Bob Ross of wood carving.
FYI: I found you on Google maps thanks to your welcome sign. 😉
Awesome video Doug, looking forward to the series. Thanks for all you share with others.
This is awesome Doug, thanks for all your videos. I never saw myself woodcarving until I saw your videos! I'm probably 12 carvings deep by now!
thank you Doug. i keep a knife in my work bag and a block of wood in the car.
Hey, Doug
I am super excited to see what you will be bringing to this new series.
What a coincidence, today I was looking at all my larger pieces or bass wood and decided to cut them into 1x1xlong. I planned on cutting to whatever length I needed. One thing I was planning on doing was some 1x1x4" Santas. Whittle one then cut that one off and begin the next one. Looking forward to getting started. Really appreciate your videos.
1x1=happiness, looking forward to it Doug...
That is great Doug!! I’m for it as well. I appreciate all you do.
Personally, I'm glad to see it. This is exactly what I want to be able to do. I don't expect I'll ever have my own shop in Gatlenburg or even have any demand for my stuff on Etsy, but if I could do something like the little hillbillies and someone could get a chuckle out of them, that would be great. Too many people are still chasing happiness when they have what they need if they'd just stop and enjoy it.
Looking forward to the 1x1 series, Doug. 👍👍
Thank you so much for starting this series of small carvings! I am just starting out and I really like the smaller wood pieces. I made 7 small figures and tried larger pieces, I can do it but I really like the one by one size! I'm looking forward to each video and will be carving right along!
So very kind of you sharing your gift I’m here to watch and learn so I can learn to give a little bit of joy to others x
Something fun to look forward too, very cool Doug!
I also noticed the carvings I try to do get bigger and bigger, therefore more time consuming and difficult to say when i found it to be finished (enough)...
Back to where it started!
Love that idea, its gonna be a lot of presents for people around :D
Good man you are, looking forward to the series, hillbillies are where I started, going back to the roots, as I said, good man you are ;)
Cheers, Quido
Really looking forward to this series Doug, I really like the way you think, and I am of much the same mindset myself... simple and fun is the way to go in the long run.
Thanks Doug I can't wait for the 1 x 1 series.
Really looking forward to this new series, Thank You for all you do Doug, Best Wishes, Pete Wales
Looking forward to the new vids Doug, great to see you have found the wind again 👍
Saw the video on the hillbillies they are cracking, summers coming I'll be carving them whilst sitting in my garden. Still a great inspiration to me in my retirement keeps me super busy
I'm ready to go!! I have followed you thru several videos in the past and have had fun with each one! Thank you.
I really like the idea of 1x1. i like carving small instead of big.
Thanks Doug! looking forward to the carving series. see you've already got the first one up. Gotta work tomorrow so it will have to wait another day. At least I know to grab a 1x1 for tomorrow night. thanks again.
Doug, you should set up a discount code with a basswood supplier for a box of 1x1 stock, so we can be ready to follow along.
Doug, I’m smiling already. Let go!
I would be honored to buy a carving from you. Even the little doors. I LL never be able to carve, senior lady. But watching you and your videos is pleasurable, it brings back memory of my grandfather, whittling away on his porch. Nice country memories. Times and talents gone now, ( for me,) so I will just enjoy, through your videos.
I think this is a great idea. I have not been starting wood carving because I don't know where to start. I have been following your channel for a long time and binge watch a lot of carving videos. I can't wait to get started and join in on what I know is gonna been some fun. Keep up the great content with such valuable information.
I am so excited I started carving and found your channel just in time for some 1x1 carvings! Exactly what I was looking for!
Doug Linker carving series title suggestion- Whittling Widdles.😂 Thanks man. Love this stuff. When you decide to “go large” let’s get that stock knife out and see you wearing a T-shirt that reads “Leverage Works”. Just picture it and gnome one foot by one foot by two feet…
Hello from France Doug, I absolutly love your channel, I have been watching it for a while now and made a lot of woodcarvings thanks to you. I just want to thank you for making me learn a new hobby and all the positive energy that you transmit through your videos. I love the idea of keeping it simple and fun ! Cheers
Thumbs up Doug, less do it. Thank you for you time and direct😎
Awesome Doug more for me to enjoy, thanks! 👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯
Doug, thank you for sharing. Also, Bigfoot Carving Tools is a new dealer for Badger State Blades. They also carry DHK knives, and many others.
Love the T-shirt doug keep being who you are 🙏
That's a great idea I can hardly wait thanks Doug I like doing the small things
Im excited for this serie because as a student i dont have much time so quick 1x1 whittle is perfect.
I'm excited for this! Good on ya Doug! 👊🏻🤙🏼🤟🏼🍻
Great idea Doug. Looking forward to the videeos
Take care both of you
Cheers
Harold
Looking forward to it! Your videos always bring a smile to me, and your teachings have gotten me interested in carving! I have made quite a few carvings for my friends and family of Woodspirits and its just been such a ball. I plan on continuing to carve as long as I can. Thanks Doug.
Those little guys have always been my bread and butter, AKA my happy place! I think you're making a good decision Doug!
Very excited for this series! As always thanks for all you provide to us.
Fantastic...this 1X1 concept is EXACTLY what I was looking for!!! I tried the dowel carving but the poplar was so hard to carve and was so hard on my knife. I had to strop every 10 cuts...took forever. 1" basswood dowels were impossible to find. I'm so looking forward to this simpler concept of 1 X 1 or square base concept...SBC (Square Base Carving) FANTASTIC!!!! I'm excited to get carving with you in this series!!! Making carving a happy experience again. Thank you Thank you.
Great video. Ive been carving just over a year THAKS TO YOU. This is a fantastic video. I am a Bus driver in England and dont get a chance of carving every day but I have a caravan ( holiday trailer) and when I can I go away and Carve. You have got me OBSESSED. This videos is like you are Talking to me. Keep it up. Doug you DONT KNOW HOW MUCH YOU HAVE CHANGED MY LIFE. THANK YOU. Keep doing your thing.
Literally perfect timing. Just got a bunch of 1x1 in the mail and wondering what to do with them. Thank you!
I’m a little character carver who is looking forward to the series, thanks
Can’t wait to watch and learn from you again! Such a great teacher and it’s because of you if I started whittling 2-3 years ago! That’s gonna be a lot of fun for sure!!
Looking forward to your new whittling series. I gotta cut some wood down to size and sharpen my blades.
I agree with the guys 1000000%..thanks for going back to the roots brotha..👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽..thank you!..I was getting depressed not seeing anymore simple little whittles😔 Yahhhh..Doug's Back😊👍🏽🔥
I just the other day got my knives out and started whittling again, so this is perfect timing. Really looking forward to the videos!
Super excited for this series Doug!!!
Thank you!!
Yes indeed fun and simple. Thank you.
Those hillbilly gnomes look like a fun project. Going to be my next carve for sure.
Appreciate the move to simplicity. I used to whittle with my grandpa when I was a kid. Now I whittle with my kids. We frequent your videos often for tips and tricks of the trade.
I absolutely love this idea. super excited to get carving some 1x1 thanks for the tips on cutting them 1x1x10 so you have something to hold going to cut my Strips now!!!
