I was raised on homemade cake and pie. My mom made homemade yeast donuts that were amazing. Went out for brunch this morning with my wife. People had huge plates of french toast piled with fruit and whipped cream and maple syrup. I had 3 poached eggs. Sugar free for 5 months now. I almost killed myself from sugar addiction.

I understand. My friends can't believe I tolerate having junk food in the house. The way I see it though, there would have been a war if someone had tried to take it away from me before going carnivore...😊 That's putting it mildly. So I tolerate it and make special cupboards for it - out of sight, out of mind. When something is left out, I just put it away. And enjoy my steak, fried eggs in brown butter, ground beef 'soup' in cream and bone broth, and some pork rind cereal with cinnamon and cream. For when it gets really hard to resist. Hits the spot and I stay carnivore.

I am a recovering sugar addict, but the day that I decided I didn't want to live like that anymore was the day I quit it all for good and haven't looked back since.
Which all sounds very grand until I admit that it has only been 11 weeks. Lol.
However, I still bake and cook and buy in all the carbs and sugar foods for my husband and son that they want. I bake their bread, make their Macaroni Cheese (English version) bake biscuits and cakes etc.
For me it was just a case of mind over matter. I wanted to do it, so I did it.
I know that not everyone is as strong minded as that, but I do think a lot of people who struggle and fail never really set their mind to it 100%. I think they had it in the back of their minds "I can't do this, this is too hard for me".
They expected to fail, so they failed.

You have a kind and generous delivery that points the way to FREEDOM...not just moved to a minimum security prison. I have learned that our taste buds renew after 10 days, so it is my determination to cut more and more hidden sugars out of my diet each week. I already have gone to adding salt to my coffee instead of monk fruit drops or stevia. This is a pretty big step for me, so now to dig deeper looking at spice rubs and other condiments that might have sugar hiding out. I just found your channel tonight and already love you! ☺

Sub par key lime pie... not worth it.

I agree 100% about eating anything sweet. Letting go of ALL carbs sweet or not has completely stopped my carb cravings. Allowing daily even the keto allowable 20 grams was enough to cause me to constantly want carbs. Which brings me to a topic regarding sweetener's I don't ever see addressed or spoken about and that is TOOTHPASTES and MOUTHWASHES and DENTAL FLOSSES, etc., that are sweetened! Every time I'd brush my teeth or do any dental care the sweetener's were overwhelming. So, I stopped using store bought toothpastes and I make my own (coconut oil, baking soda and salt). The toothpastes sold without sweetener's are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. So, I make my own and have been doing so for a few years now and it works beautifully. My toothpaste expense has definitely diminished and I'm no longer triggered by the sweet sugary taste of toothpaste bombarding my mouth every single morning, noon, night, or anytime I want to brush my teeth.

We are programmed to become addicts to that crap from cradle to grave. So never be quiet about that A-word 😉
What we have learned is normal to eat, is not normal at all. We are also programmed to leave our health in the hands of others, and trust that someone else knows better than ourselves.
But who know better than ourselves what we want, and what we need? 🤔

I am not 100% carnivore - yet. I will do a little fruit but I am careful. I avoid real sugary fruits like pineapple and mango. Apples for example are bred for sweetness(I.e. Honey Crisp). So if I eat an apple it is a smaller Granny Smith. I wish I could find crab apples at the store. Then as far as any other fruit I will eat raspberries or blackberries in moderation. Nothing on them. I used to put sweetener on them as they can be a little bitter. Like Dr. Gundry says - the more bitter, the better.

Besides the carbs/ sugar.. when you look at the ingredients of most processed " foods " .. almost everything has strange chemicals in it, or " Natural Flavors " which they don't have to tell you what that " Natural Flavor" is.. even though it is probably not anymore natural than that it exists on the planet. Just looking at spices the other day, almost all of the ones that said zero carb, had sugar as an ingredient.. or dextrose or Natural flavor, or oil of some kind.

I think there's a rule that says if the carb count is less than one half a gram per serving they can simply call it zero

I think sin represented in religions with an apple and related to "pleasure" because of this, between other things. Carbs are unhealthy but also addictive and one of the strongest addictions. In a society that is all day "high", social elements, families, relations, economy and the ability to plan and save money, to invest or even work also is harmed. People who are in this state, like drug addicts, won't be productive, but they want to keep their life style, the problem is they don't have money anymore at some point. This is where politicians and ideologies come with a solution for them, that is bad for the rest of the society. Because of all this, people who "created" religions or some of them, they saw pleasure as a sin. Because it is unhealthy, can not be controlled and leads to economic and social disaster. Obviously there are some healthy pleasures like bacon, and it should always be a personal decision what to do with one's own life, but just some thoughts on maybe why the apple is the symbol of sin, and today they are more sweet than ever.
Sadly, rice and other bad foods were accepted by religions. Obviously, in times where people had no food, it is understandable, although, most of the food problems were caused by Empires and alike.

I enjoy occasional sweet treats as long as they are sweetened with stevia or allulose. though I do use flavored LMNT daily it doesn't trigger me to go back to the FDA approved poison or processed sugars, natural sugar and carbs are great as long as you spend the better part of your days working out or as a survival food, but animal fats and meat should always be the majority of caloric intake in any diet, and if you have room for more as a treat a little stevia or allulose is fine but if it keeps you from making better choices then eliminating those foods from your diet is wise

Well I drink coffee, but not with milk. If you really need the dairy, you might try some heavy whipping cream which doesn't have the sugar in it in the form of lactose from milk. If you don't like that and can tolerate it and it doesn't throw you off your diet, I don't think a small amount of milk would hurt.
