- Options for shock and fork cartridge upgrades... there not ideally affordable by any means. The GSXR shock swap though? affordable, fully adjustable, and relatively simple to install!
Probably the best mod you can make to these 400's is suspension. The rear and front give little to no adjustments, and this really hinders pushing your ability comfortably. If you're not in the ideal weight set from factory you'll never get the full potential out of your bike.
FOR NINJA 400: You can buy a Z400 shock bracket to get around buying the Norton battery box bracket! (Not recommended, will be 14mm lower than stock)
Z400: you will need to order a Ninja 400 bracket if you want to get optimal ride height!
***REEAD****Ride height for aggressive riding would be slightly raked towards front. Think of an ZX6R's high seat, then think of a Cruiser bikes low rear end. Higher gives agile flicky turns, Lowering will gain stability but lose corner maneuverability.
How to make your bike like this for relatively CHEAP:

GSXR shock/Ninja 400 bracket: Source from Ebay ($40-50 each)
Norton shock adapter: $50
(If you have a Z400, you'll need shock bracket from Ebay also!)

How do you loosen/tighten the collars on the gsxr shock? I can’t get it to shorten by the 1 mm or so that it’s currently too long for…driving me insane
Confused why did he needed to dismantle the entire top end to get to the shock?
The stock mount is tied to the a cavity in front of the battery box (under the ECU). Tank has to come off to get to that. Body panels need to come off to get the tank off so it just snowballs. Once that bracket in front of the battery box is out it needs to be flipped over because the GSXR shock is a little shorter. Once you do that there is no support for where those bolt were positioned. That norton Kit comes with extra brackets to now serve that purpose. I have seen people skip the norton brakets. Not sure if that leads to cracking or not. the norton kit has complete instructions for this mod that that can really help keep things straight. I have a track day in 2 days and am thinking of doing this and skipping the norton bracket. The more sensible side of me say to try the track day stock first as that stock shock is actually very good
what year gsxr? How does it ride after the modification? I plan to do this modification for the track
2011-2022 GSXR shock I do believe.
Riding wise it’ll immediately feel more responsive and flicky due to being a half inch or so higher, that alone has made the bike vastly better
As for rebound and compression, it’s enough to get the job done and definitely a leap and jump from stock but I have rebound maxed out to get the rear wheel to snap to the road like glue
gsxr how much cc?
Thanks bro
