Can you compare a track day on the Graves race bike? $26,000@
For entry level and a modified race bike; which would be a better choice a Ninja 400 or an R3?
So a lighter bike with improved brakes and on SLICKS does better on the track... amazing!
its a stock ninja 400, with its mods it still likely costs less or costs the same. point is it is a bad purchase and a bike with out a class because of the starting bike.
@s1ricecream Most of the mods that make it better (for the track) are not suitable for everyday road use (slicks, light bodykit with no light cluster, etc). It's an unfair comparison.
Elementar, dear Watson...
Slicks and brakes aren't going to make a huge difference, it's the suspension that matters.
@jordanm8915 not even going to bother trying to argue with that statement...
All this video convinced me of is that the sound is worth the extra money.
Just get a zx6r or r6 they sound better rev higher and more bike same price

Yammie saying a Kawasaki is faster than a Kawasaki? EVEN MORE PROOF that Yammie hates Kawasaki
Or the other way around when he says a ninja 400RR is slower then a regular ninja 400 ... is roasting the bike on another level
😂
Or a bike that costs half as much is better. Or just spend 500 more and get a 636.
@@yesihavebedbugs2786 636🥹. One of these days
@mrcla55yguy20 local dealership has the 4 and 636 on the floor. Non abs 636 admittedly. It is 9700 versus 10,200. No way I could ever see buying the 4 over the 6 to save 500 bucks. The ninja 400 at 5500 i could see if mo ey were the consideration. But at 11k+ 500 dollars will not be making any difference financially.
For the trolls I know the 636 is 11,500 or 12k out the door. The 9700 is not out the door pricing either. It is 11k out the door. And no way is it worth that.
I liked this episode but stock vs stock would be more of a fair race. Either that or same mods should be done to the 400rr
'we haven't touched this motor'
'we've got a flash on this thing'
apples to onions comparison.
Yeah but even a minute's worth of research will tell anyone with half a brain that a ZX4R will beat a ninja 400.
@@scottseedell238 Not necessarily true, 400' beat 600/Liter bikes why not the 4xrr? My 400 would smoke one any day. Plus the 4rr is already more upgraded.
@@MadStylee619 A ninja 400 is around 45bhp. A ZX4R is around 77bhp. It's not hard to work out that it's going to win on acceleration and top speed.
@@MadStylee619 What's this 400 you have that would smoke a ZX4R anyway?
Also the 4RR has limited air flow wise by butterflies that restrict air flow at around 11,000rpm I believe. This bike is limited because of EPA standards, it has been said that this bike (ZX4RR) is capable of over 90hp unrestricted and tuned with the right exhaust etc. I hope Kawi sells the hell out of this bike and has model options for years to come. I was going to have an old in-line 4 small bore imported hear from abroad but now I won’t have to. This bike idles smoother than the parallel twins that ppl are claiming are better, it sounds like a man’s bike. It’s a stepping stone from the Ninja 400 to bigger bikes like the ZX-6R. Seeing how Honda is bitching out for a 750 parallel twin to eventually replace the CBR600R the 4RR is a refreshing alternative. Off soapbox.
90hp from 400cc is crazy! If they ever get that much power from it, it will be peaky as fark with no torque at all down low.
Exactly - track day gem
Love my new 24 4RR. After a full exhaust and flash tune, it's a completely different bike! 79hp 400 inline 4 with that badassed engine symphony.... yeah it's a win!
Fwiw, I have a 23 N400 as well. Sure the 4RR isn't as fast as my 24 ZX6R but it's a very special bike in a class, basically by itself! Thanks Kawasaki!
if you're not pro racer brandon and you are buying a certain experience, a manageable track bike that you can learn on, with a special sound with power that won't kill you, i think that zx4rr is still for you.
But then it could equally be argued if you are not experienced and you're looking for something to learn on and hone your skills, a much cheaper and lighter Ninja 400 makes a lot more sense. But if you truly just want that i4 experience of revs and sound, yea I can see why one would pick the 4R instead.
@@Real_MisterSir i feel like i addressed this when i said "if you are buying a certain experience". but yes, if you DONT want that experience, go with the little ninja it rules. used it for my first 2 track days, learned a lot.
The certain experience desired being the i4 and revs without going to a 600, yes, I agree.
@@babyfknbluits waayyyyyy too big of a price diff for what is actually a pretty small difference in power/speed and so if you want the "experience" of an amazing sounding inline 4 just get a 600, theres hardly any price difference (and you can buy 2nd hand for less which isnt an option with the zx4rr due to it being so new) - that said its cool that its a 400 with an inline 4, but thats its only real selling point
@@Critikz thank u for repeating the obvious and giving me a headache. whyd you even type all that out just to walk it back at the end. yeah, it's a lot of money, with only one unique selling point. if you don't care abt that one selling point, it's too much money. if you do, it's good. we already know that. it won't be that expensive forever, and in my country you can get secondhand i4 400s for dirt cheap all day anyways. you can probably even import some of them for not that much to the US too, since they're getting to 25 years old now. it's just nice to have a new one. the unique experience being that you can thrash it on the street and hear a scream from the exhaust without going to jail. that's a good thing that a lot people will pay for, but it's okay if you won't.
The ninja 400 suspension (that's fully dialled in for you guys) can easily account for the difference. unless it's two stock bikes out of the showroom this is not even a close "stock-to-stock" ride, who are you kidding.... (posted @6:05 so in a few minutes I could be eating these words)...
True, but you're saving $6000 on the ninja 400, so plenty of money for upgrades, I think their point was you can go faster on the ninja 400 for less money.
Yep that's what I said, they tried saying "this bike is stock but also here's all the mods we put on it"
Tyres.
Not surprising the race-prepped bike is so much better from the rider perspective, even as a noob I had the opportunity to test a stock R3 vs a race prepped bike years ago and it was night and day. The stock bike felt like a whale in comparison, suspension and brake differences were enormous. What do you reckon the weight difference could be between the two? 40 kg?
You forget tyres.
It looks like the 400 front forks were dropped pretty far in the triple. I wonder if you lowered the ZX4RR forks just a little that it might help your front end feel
I’d imagine it would help with oversteer for sure. I dropped mine a couple mms and it tracks very nicely
Ninja 400 is quicker because it's twin and deliver power earlier than Zx4RR which could be fast at a longer stretch but definitely not quicker.
yes it as has low end torque which all in with Ninja 400 at 8,500 rpm where ZX-4RR it is at 11,000 rpm and I agree with you
Exactly, peak power figures don't tell the whole story, that's why a 150hp turbo engine in a car feels so much more flexible and capable compared to a 150hp NA engine. Very different curves, even though the peak figure is the same.
@@mociczyczki WUT
So basically like a 600 vs a 1000 on a more technical track.
Well with that said, it's still half cheaper than the zx4rr
"Hey ninja 400, you got a four cylinder?" Ah, no man, not on me. "It'd be alot cooler if you did"
Compare the ninja to a race prepped zx4rr and it will be a different story for sure
You are correct but how much money now will be dumped into the zx4rr which is insane just to get it to beat a race preped 400.
So the race bike isn’t stock?
The motor is stock. It has suspension upgrades but to the extent the 4rr is still more then what they have in the 400
bone stock engine. It just has race plastics, direct line brakes, and tires. It's a very budget race build lol
@@yammienoob Hey Yam, have you seen anyone at track days or races running track-focused CF Motos (probably the 450)? I'm just curious if those have crept in as cheap track bikes anywhere yet given that they are so inexpensive and *somewhat* close to the Ninja 400! (and no, I haven't seen any at my track, but it's basically Yamaha-land).
What exhaust is on the 400?
@@yammienoobwhy not do a flash on the ninja 400?
I have an 18 ninja 400 and the bike is quick. I have full yoshi exhaust, velocity stacks, MWR race air filter and full tune and upgraded chain and sprockets. Really woke this bike up.
TY, have been waiting on this. Now I need to go to your store and bug something!!! Still enjoy my 4rr
The ZX4RR ecu is restricted to 55hp but it can produce about 50%
Because torque is nearly identical, easily explains why the 4rr doesn't pull ahead until 4th...so if most of the track is done with an average speed of 80 - 85 mph (a 2.7 mi track done in 2min 10 to 15 sec- ish, the math checks out for that...)
Alright, so 1. Isn't the inline 4 and a little plus in performance the exact reason you would want to buy the Zx4? ;)
2. Your emotional expression when first trying the bike a few weeks ago spoke more than 1000 words. - Its a comfy little racer that goes madly insane on the road and screams like no other 400.
Since motorcycling is all about emotions, this bike does it all without any upgrades and gets close to a fully modified 400 on track. Thats some fine ass bike boi
Yammie is not a good reference about how good or bad a motorcycle really is, and that's it, folks.
Hi papa yamm a small suggestion- I listen to videos in the background while working so it would be helpful if you replaced phrases like - "this bike took a session to get used to" with "the zx4rr took a session to get used to"
I’d suspect the Q5’s you put on the 4RR caused the feeling it got front heavy. The front Q5 is 2mm taller than it’s predecessor the Q4 and would not be surprised that it’s even taller than the OE tire.
What about changing the riding mode for a softer throttle response?
Love the content!!!
Thanks guys .
Excellent vid .
I wanted to swap my ninja 300 48 rhp race bike with a 400rr.
Not worth it .
I've decided.
Clickbait tile @14:42 "Technically speaking, it (ZX-4RR) is a better bike" That's all you need to know. You don't see much footage of the Ninja 400 pulling on the ZX-4RR at all.
Gearing, tires, new exhaust should make the zx4 make it feel like a Jr supersport
Very interesting! Thanks💚🏁
I remember when the Z400 came out and everyone was shitting on it, now the ZX-4RR is getting the same treatment.
The new ZX-4RR will go down in history as an iconic bike that will most likely retain much of its value, much more so than the 400.
Your back to back review is super useful as in isolation it doesn't feel many "professional" reviewers are catching these limitations of the stock zx4.
"This bike is completely stock, heres all the mods we put into it"
😂
They should do stock vs stock, with no modifications
I think if you change the exhaust to full systen it can shed a little bit of weight it is heavy.
I've said it on a previous video, but seriously you guys need to put a 450SS on track with the Ninja 400.
For 10K this shouldn't even be a topic of discussion. Noob can you review the CF Moto 450? for the price its insane
Plus one on that! I’ve been waiting for that review for months!

@@yammienoob dreams really do come true!
The ninja 400 weights 25% less. Physics is not on the side of the zx4rr. The bike makes a great sound and ok power.

Yammie should make a vid on the new
(to the states) 2023 Honda XR150L! Good starter dual sport for new riders and affordably priced too
Yammie I’m 15 and just got my license and am wondering what bike you think I should get I’ve been looking at the ninja 250 what do you think?
Amazing, what exhaust does the ninja 400 have?
I know one thing for sure, there's no comparison when it comes to sound quality the ZX-4RR wins hands down.
The only gripe I hold against the zx4 is the price, for a little more you can get a zx6, otherwise seems like a good bike tho, if would be priced more aggressively. The ninja 400 is also nice, really depends what you are out for in a bike, do you want something more all round ninja 400 is the way to go, or do you want something more sport focused, go with the zx4, The ninja (number) line tends to be more chill anyway, and the zx(something) line tends to focus more on the sport aspect. The zx4 truly is on a class of its own, would like to see other manufacturers jump on that boat.
I agree 100%. Great bike it’s just the price tag for what you get that I don’t agree with. I’m curious to see how it sells.
@@user-rw4oi1dd9c From what I could gather, it still seems to be selling quite well, despite its price, really they are competing with themselves, there's nothing alike in the market right now.
I don't want a zx6r. I dont need to be going that fast. Zx4r is comfortable, plus the small bore four is something from the 90s.
@@genericjonathan4115 Go for it then, I would likely get it in favor of the zx6 too, still think is a little too expensive.
Riding supersport 600s and 1000s on the street is just dumb in my opinion.
BUT most importantly, have fun and stay safe.
@@JoseLgamer05I rode an 08 zx6-r as a daily driver after I found the ninja 250 to be very lacking. As long as you're not stupid, doing stupid stuff like gixxer brah, you'll be fine. You'll be glad to have that extra power to pass and not constantly get passed yourself. Everybody hates on anything above a 500 to be a bad starter bike, it isn't, it's the rider and how they ride that determines that.
4rr is a beautiful bike and Im happy Kawasaki made a small inline 4. But the weight 😢
They should of made the quickshifter optional get rid of rider modes which is not even needed for this type of power LOL and just leave abs OR have none abs option to give an even cheaper option and potentially give us a lighter frame for the power.
So would the ZX4RR handle better being lowered?
can we got a mod list for the track preped 400?
Are yall going to be doing a video about the cfmoto 450ss
The headlights and the exhaust plus the mirrors might effect the handling and speed i guess.
Yammie I doubt you will see this but what type of tights / leg sleeves are you wearing under your shorts I have been looking for something exactly like this
When are we getting Ninja 650 versus the new ZX-6R?
Are the q5's on the zx4rr mounted backwards in the beginning of the video?
Every picture I see of them are rotated the other way
yammie, can you compare this 2 bikes for daily ride if you can daily a zx4rr.. because i know the ninja 400 you can.. just wanna know in your perspective as a rider..

Yammi I know we talked a bit about the CFmoto 450ss but I really want you to try that bike. I’ve been extremely impressed with the package they offer for such a cheap price. Yes it has its flaws but it really seems like it was designed by enthusiasts who also get what regular riders are looking for in the market. It has the feature, looks, and quality. You can even adjust the throttle 😏 lol

When you buy CFMoto you're buying what comes out of the box, that's it. When you buy a proper bike you get the support network as well.
Holy hand-grenade! How far down did you drop the forks on the N400?
I was surprised to see, the zx4rr is actually heavier than my r6.
The r6 is 407.9 lbs curb, the zx4rr is 414.5 lbs.
Because its frame made of still unlike r6!
wild to see considering my 06 zx6r 636 is 362 lbs on the title after a slip on
@@genyazaqqq Yep, aluminum vs steel* frame, but the rear exhaust is very heavy on the ZX4RR, so getting a lighter exhaust will make it basically the same weight as the 600 supersports.
Only R6 that light is the track version, without lights, etc.
My 2021 MT-09 wieghs 417 stock, mine is closer to 400lbs now modded, so that's also my biggest complaint about the zx4rr 🤔
Yall ever get a chance to ride a prepped Super Stock-ish ZX4RR? Curious what it feels like with 30 fewer pounds to drag around and some mild suspension upgrades.
That exhaust on the zx4 weighs like 13-16lbs not including the headers. Maybe a slip on could help the bike feel more nimble?
In love w my mt07 and loved my cbr300r zx4rr seems like a bust
I like that Kawasaki made it, but for the price. At that price, it should have gotten an adjustable suspension front and rear. Plus a less conservative tune. (know Euro emissions plus US emissions)Yamaha R7 is a better bike for the money and is less. I have a Ninja 400 with a full exhaust, air filter, velocity stacks and flashed ECU. Its really fun mainly because of the weight. Just wish I had a track close by to start pushing it more.Even with everything it still costs less than the ZX4RR.
Do the extra mods make a noticeable difference? I have a 400 as well and I’ve been debating doing everything you’ve done. Probably not the full exhaust (already have a slip on), but I’ve been curious to talk to someone else and see if it’s worth it to do the flash, filter and stacks.
For the price between the R7 and the ZX-4RR. The R7 is the better bike.
Dude you guys have to make a video shoot out with 3 bikes 🏍 2023 KTM rc390, kawi zx4rr, and CF Moto 450 SS. Would be EPIC !!!!
Thank you 👍
Which tires are on the zx4RR??
Forgetting price the RR looks and sounds and rides so much better by the looks of it
ZX-4RR is so over-priced. I am buying a ZX-6R for that price, all day.
Why can’t you find certain icon helmets in stock anywhere
If you don't weigh that much, a stock Ninja/Z400 pulls pretty well, even from 4000 rpm. Darn good engine.
Zx4rr ...
Best sound
Way less insurance
Comfortable sitting
Not a surprise at all that a race prepped bike with better brakes and suspension can run faster lap times. The biggest time issue for bikes is in the corners where most of the speed from the straights is lost. Better brakes and suspension allows for faster times through the corners, and, therefore, faster lap times. ZX4RR is the faster bike and would crush the 400 if track prepped.
Try an unrestricted zx4rr with the same tires... Its a 600cc bike with a smaller engine, its cheaper than a 600 and you get to enjoy it alot more without going 200 kph+
Yeah... I'd hope a factory stock 400 is slower than a race bike on slicks.
please make both bike in similar condition, Ninja 400 already using Free Flow Exhaust, blind head lamp and brake upgrade while zx4rr still in stock.
Oh gosh, you guys are making it hard not to buy a Ninja 400 for track days. Great video !
Love to Ninja 400 ❤ but mine is green and that looks VOOM too 🔥
The zx4r has its front wheel reversed, lol. Someone mounted it wrong.🤣
I also had my zx4rr flashed and noticed the weird throttle too. I ordered a full exhaust and will be getting a new flash by a different shop and I’ll see how it goes I guess.
Who did you get it flashed from? I also had mine flashed from vcyclenut and the throttle off (engine braking) was reduced and I was not used to that. I’m sending it back for a reflash.
@@WensWorld I had mine flashed by 2WheelDynoWorks. That’s surprising that you had the same thing happen to you with a different flash! Strange …

@@jessefjeld7225 I was one of the first with him and we chatted quite a bit about this. He originally lowered the degree of engine braking to smooth out the on off throttle response but I didn’t like it so he tweaked it in the latest revision back to stock levels of engine braking.

ZX-4RR: 415 lb wet.

Theres 8 million ninja 400s around, and you couldnt find a stock one to compare? What was total cost of the ninja 400 with mods?
Too bad. Would love to see how the zx4 feels with a good tune to fix the throttle issue. Nobodys getting a good lap time on a bike where the throttle doesnt close all the way lol
Zx4rr is definitely more of a street Rossi bike
On smaller tracks the z400 will definitively have advantage….rev range is much higher and needs more stretches….
I couldn’t follow the comparison or conclusions. A table showing side by side changes from stock would help.
I want the zx4rr so bad. I’ll flash it if need be but that sound is amazing
Please try to race it with 450ss
the difference is the weight difference between these to bikes is very big !! the laptimes will be very difference if the zx4rr has the same done as the ninja 400
yea we're gonna need a weigh in, because those times are way too close
So this also concludes the r7 would throw the zx4rr out the window.
Yammie when you track the ZX-4RR against a bone stock Ninja 400 for round 2, please remove the exhaust again for the ZX-4RR now that it's been remapped, sounds awesome for the video's and saves a little weight too 😊
Why no race exhaust on the RR even flashed ?
So Yammie - if price is not a factor, RS 660 or ZX4RR as a pure track bike?
Objectively the 660 is waaay better. The only thing that MAY be worse is reliability and cost of parts etc.
R7 all day long as a pure track toy. No competition.
So if you put the same part in the 4rr it's faster werid test
I feel bad for the guy who said “I bought a ZX4rr because of your videos” and you responded very positively… then dropped this video
Tyres and modified fork made the comparison invalid.
Anyone here track there complete stock 400 (motor, suspension, brakes, etc) I really wanna get some track experience and I own a 22 400. I wanna get on the track so when I upgrade in the future it’ll be a more seemless transition upgrading to a 600cc+. I wanna learn techniques to be faster and more smooth instead of learning those type of things only on the street! Just a nervous 22 year old cause I don’t wanna show up to the track on the 400 and be a meme, or not really be able to learn on such a small bike… lol sorry if I sound dumb I know the 400 is fun to track, just wanna know if it’s worth it!
I've seen 600's out run 1000's on Track. Does that mean I can go around telling People My R6 is Faster than an R1?
I'm good with this test. Both Kawis win. Twins have many advantages. Fours are glorious.
Havent even watched the vid yet but can already tell this is an unfair comparison. Lighten the 400rr the same as the 400r and then make the vid. Personally, i think the p/twin will edge on accel but the rr will eat on the straight and sweeping turns where it can keep the revs up. Just my humble opinion.
Isn't this a comparison between Bodybuilder and Strength Trainer kinda thing???
