It took some guts for Gale & Zemeckis to bite the hand that fed them by calling out Universal just a little over two years after Jaws: The Revenge came out (and was panned). That is why the producers didn´t want to show too much of future and tried to focus on the past. After the 1st Back to the future was released, many of the critics were that they went to the past, not to the future, so in the 2nd movie they tried to show the future but they knew it would be hard so that is why it is very little the time in the future. Believe me, I was young in the ´80s. Many things were said about these movies.

The problem is rather that mechanical failures on the road lead to the car just stopping. Mechanical failures in the air leads to the flying car falling out of the sky, killing everyone inside when hitting the ground. So presumably we need some kind of security-field in certain areas, that give falling cars a soft landing. And those fields are obviously not world wide, so they are below the normal traffic zones. Flying outside of those zones would be at your own risk then.
Imagine if on October 20th, there's still no flying cars and hover boards but suddenly when you wake up on October 21st, everything from the movie becomes a reality...

That is why the producers didn´t want to show too much of future and tried to focus on the past. After the 1st Back to the future was released, many of the critics were that they went to the past, not to the future, so in the 2nd movie they tried to show the future but they knew it would be hard so that is why it is very little the time in the future. Believe me, I was young in the ´80s. Many things were said about these movies.

Presumably air traffic would be as controlled as land-traffic is right now. Designated roads for flying cars, with light markers and traffic lights.
The problem is rather that mechanical failures on the road lead to the car just stopping. Mechanical failures in the air leads to the flying car falling out of the sky, killing everyone inside when hitting the ground. So presumably we need some kind of security-field in certain areas, that give falling cars a soft landing. And those fields are obviously not world wide, so they are below the normal traffic zones. Flying outside of those zones would be at your own risk then.

Kind of amusing how that is considered an antique in 2015. The last VHS/DVD combo unit was released by LG and they discontinued it in 2014. I have a Panasonic unit from around 2007, it has an S-video output. Nowadays it seems S-video has been abandoned in favour of component. The only analog outputs you'll find on modern recorders are composite or component.
Mostly everything is HDMI now. PS4 and Xbox are HDMI only devices. 4k televisions mostly only have HDMI plugs.

i really hate when people say they did not get things right , not only were they trying not to take it so serious and make a future they wanted to hopefully come true but they also got so many things right , such a masterpiece trilogy . Fingerprint identification , cars basically look like teslas , VR headsets , flatscreen tvs , facetime etc.
Whenever I watch this movie I just like to pretend that this is just an alternate 2015 and that our 2015 was created eventually in one of Doc's trips in the time train.
