I would like to clarify an error in the video where it's stated that a helicopter was used in the search but it was actually a plane. I'm not sure how I missed that in editing. Apologies.
A very sad curious tale. I think erratic driving either through alcohol or by just plain showing off they somehow ended up in the murky river and are yet to be found. Great narration as always, I was hooked to the very last word!
Occam’s Razor = they ended up in the bottom of the river. There have been a few decades old cases where they found cars at the bottom of a body of water; thereby solving mass disappearances.
Around 1997 divers from the Delaware State Police found a Cadillac that went missing in early 1968 in Seaford Delaware; evidently the car had run off the road in snowy weather and both occupants were killed. It's hard to say how many more people are lost like this
I think they ended up in the deep end of a lake, accidentally as the car was never found. Similar to those girls in 1970, on their way to a party and the car accidentally dropped into a lake. The car was found when divers were training!
Makes me wonder how many vehicles and missing people would turn up, if all bodies of water were drained temporarily, to search for any lost souls. That would be a hypothetical scenario, obviously. Something of that magnitude would be virtually impossible to achieve. If it was to be done though, I wonder what the percentage of the deceased found would be accidental, and how many would be intentional, homicides. (Oceans not included in the above mentioned bodies of water. As that is a whole separate area, likely jam packed with centuries of wreckage, and countless deceased.)
they didn't have medical technologies that we have today nor did they know anything about diet or that cigarettes age you worse then anything. there was very very little help back then like there is now and people were just plain ignorant for the most part. my grandma (born in 1916) was an alcoholic who had a very tragic life and it was not like she could just go see a therapist or get on some kind of medication it really didn't exist back then. people in first world countries are aging better and living longer than any human beings in history. and yeah compared to today's standards people in general were pretty ugly back then.

I understand they went missing a very long time ago, but knowing the area as it is today, I don't know where they would've been able to drive off the road into the Rouge River. Going to share this video with people in my neighborhood since I'm sure Im not the only once who doesn't realized there's this old of an unsolved disappearance around here. Just a side note: it's the Rouge River. I know you kept saying River Rouge, but River Rouge is a nearby city, but the Rouge River is the name of the body of water near Melvindale. But I guess unless you've lived in this general vicinity your entire life, you might not even notice that error. I noticed because every time you said "River Rouge" I kept thinking of the city instead of the river lol
Oddly enough, the biggest mystery here to me is why a 24yo married guy is hanging out with a married woman old enough to be his mother and another woman 11 yrs older than himself. What??? I can not wrap my head around that. Especially during that time period. Like some others have commented, I feel fairly certain that they and the car ended up, accidentally, in a body of water.
Excellent video, and a new one for me. I'd say that for three people to chose to disappear is highly unlikely. I would say they went in the river but we're overlooked. Very interesting.

I, too, haven’t heard of this case until I came across your channel last night. I was pretty well enthralled with the details and your great narration.
That was an incredulous story, extremely well researched, edited and told. Whatever were they doing out at 2.40am in the first place ! Weather conditions were not clear, but like others my mind goes to their having perished in that fierce river, The lady not having been used to driving that car more than a few hours, and I suspect more than just coffee having been drunk could easily have lost control. So very sad for all concerned. You mentioned a strange twist of two of their fathers also going missing, do you know more? Thankyou so much for your hard work and for sharing with us.
Edward Gorey has written and illustrated a story based on this mystery. It's called "The Willowdale Handcar." I wonder if they ended up in the Detroit River.
I really do think that if it was a fog filled night, they lost visibility of the road and ended up driving into the lake or river. Or maybe they ran off to Canada to start a new life. I had never heard of this case before, great video DC!
I am very glad to see that you block anyone who continues to use offensive or hateful comments. That will teach them to be respectful or go away! So glad you stick up for yourself and your channel!!!
It's a good presentation of the mystery. It would be complimented by a mapping of the known route driven. O think it would help give more of a mental picture.
back in the eighties there was an article in one of the detroit papers about replacement of a bridge over the huron river in wayne county , several families contacted officials and construction company asking that they would keep an eye out for any vehicals in the river. as their relatives had gone missing along that route, the workers actually found several cars including a model t with two bodies , the cars found i believe dated from the teens too the fifties , and i think more than one had bodies but they were never identified . some time in the thirties the detroit news had a autogyro , maybe?
Hi everyone its Maryanne here i like watching videos about history and what happened to them i was in care all of my childhood until i was in my 20s iv only been out of care for 16 years i never got tought about history so im learning now by watching videos on you tube
I'm at least 95% certain that they all drove into the river, or at least _a_ river. When one or more people disappear _with their vehicle_ it's pretty much certain that they drove into a river or lake.
Why did people look so much older back then? Anyway, that car is sitting underneath a body of water somewhere. There was a case recently in FL where a man found a car, in a lake, at the back of a development while looking at images on Google Maps. The man went missing 40 years ago and was found inside the car.
the most plausible is they plunged into a river or lake, not the best conditions, late at night. someday the auto will be found, when the water is low enough, similar to cases we've seen come to light in the last few years.
I wonder what these three had in common, enough to all three hop in a car together at such late hours. Their ages were all different. Where did they go for those 40 mins? and then they headed back to the cafe then left again together? it sounds like they had something planned for the night (morning)..... I had NEVER heard of this case. Good job!
Beautifully done as always. How sad for their loved ones having no answers. I also think they are in the car deep in the river & hopefully will be found soon...that or aliens got them 😁. Thank You 💚
These three seem an unlikely trio, just outside looking in... A young man with the two older ladies? Granted, he did know one on a business level. I just can't quite imagine what these three would be doing together at 2am? Very strange, indeed...
A helicopter wouldn't have been used to search for them. In 1937 helicopters were still highly experimental, and none were in military or police service.
That was interesting. I looked into it to see what was up with that. I found an article that stated that it was an airplane rather than a helicopter that was used. It seems as though she simply misspoke. Here's a link: www.pressandguide.com/lifestyles/melvindale-unsolved-mystery-is-years-old/article_92c4829f-59ae-54d0-992a-6dda97a013dd.html
You obviously didn't bother to read the very first comment where she apologises for missing that fact when editing. She even pinned it for heavens sake!! She also states it was an aeroplane that was used in the search, not a helicopter. Honestly, why complain when the explanation is right there for anyone capable of using their commonsense to see.
I can't believe that these two women were ages 35 and 42. They both look like they're in their sixties. I agree with a lot of the commenters here. I think they had a car accident somewhere and the vehicle has never been found.
I listened very carefully and came to the conclusion that the woman that drove his car slid on a curve right into the river. Every new car takes time to get the feel of it, it was foggy & slippery, she hydroplanes. Can't bring them back, so it's easier to quit the costly investigation. Just sharing my thoughts about it☕️
There are more than half-a-dozen river crossings/bridges close to Melvindale, and the Rouge River empties into the Detroit River nearby; where there are plenty of docks for the driver of an unfamiliar car to have driven off. My bet is that the trio are in the Detroit river or Lake Erie.
ALERT. This mystery was solved back in 1972?. The car plunged into the muck at the bottom of the Rouge River and trapped the occupants inside. The simplest answer . The car is in the river. Its probably hidden in a hole or under downed branches and roots. The first ride may have been just that. Years ago we either took people for rides in our new cars and or let them drive it. Nothing sinister. Just an awful accident.
Thanks for covering a case that isn't well known. Most videos have a tendency to cover the same cases over and over but at least for me, this is fresh and I also like that it is an older case. So what happened? That's why I watch these. I find it odd that they left together for nearly an hour and then returned. I also think it is a bit strange that the police officer that spoke with them said that the gentleman was intoxicated. If they had been gone for almost an hour, it looks like he should have been sobering up unless he had a flask or bottle of alcohol with him. A car is a big object to hide. If it was new, I would think it would have been even harder to hide during those days. How do you not notice a nice, brand new car? The car being submerged is a really strong theory. If the ex-husband was arrested on more than one occasion, it would be interesting to know why. He may have been involved in the disappearance or it may be that the woman left, running from him and that they got rid of the car owner themselves, left town, sold the car and started new lives. All of this is just pure speculation but all we can do is speculate. As I said before, the car being submerged is, in my opinion, the strongest theory. There's no telling what all would be found if we could drain the water from this planet. It may never be solved but that doesn't mean we should forget. Great job on this video.
My sister recommended this channel to me and this is the first time watching you! I loved this video an I’m can’t wait to watch more! ❤️👍🏼This is kind of creepy considering I live close to melvindale!!!
Man, Thomas was a good looking guy. It's tragic the loved ones of these 3 never got any answers or closure. I wonder if they will ever be found, or if their ending will ever come to light. I hope so. 😥
We can only guess but the car seems to link the three and It's possible they crashed and the car was stolen especially as it was a new car. The three occupants may have been taken away and killed. The two women were friends but it is odd that Lorrimer spent part of the evening with them. It does suggest that they knew each other better than maybe people thought at the time especially to have allowed one of the women to drive the car. If someone they vaguely knew came over to their table and was drunk or getting there, it seems unlikely that they would then go off in a car with him especially in those days. There's a possibility they may, out of kindness, have decided they should drive him home but then how were they expecting to get back themselves? When they left the cafe, did they head in the direction of Lorrimer's house? Interesting case.
It is likely they went into abody of water. However, while Michigan is fairly flat, there would have been wooded areas that could easily conceal a car that skidded off the road. There is an area in Boston called "Back of the Hill," and when it was cleared out in the 2000's, a number of vehicles were uncovered.
Excellent video as usual. You are fantastic, and why you don't get more views is beyond me.. Keep doing what you do and we will be here. Subbed b4 it aired!
I believe the car may have went off the road into a river as they were intoxicated. This happened with some young girls whose car went over the bridge. Maybe in time someone will spot the car in the river, as it's been nearly 83 years and I'm sure it will be found one day.
I love your obsure stories.....good job....could you do old Hollywood actors murders like the actor who played Superman on TV in the 5Os in the states.. George Reeves
Am I the only 1, who finds it weird, that Artie's husband divorced her rather than having her declared dead? He had to wait just as long, and since he didnt remarry, there was no rush, and the choice of a divorce with no apparent need seems even weirder. Tho I guess, there could be some legal grounds, Im not aware of, but then Im back to why divorce her, when every1 else in that sad situation have their spouse declared dead.
Was there any odd or conjoined timeline to when the fathers of two of the missing also vanished? If I heard your telling right (it's 4AM so perhaps not) it is the only thing making me consider foul play/a planned disappearance. This was probably one of the last times in modern America where you could get away with crafting a new identity, if you were savvy enough.
Yeah it’s a nice new car that probably was capable of speed. He let Margaret drive. She would not be familiar with driving the car. They had been drinking. It was night and foggy. Probably went off the road into the river. Maybe black ice on the road
I'm real surprised that an accident isn't the most likely scenario. At least 1 person was drunk, though there was a chance all three were, yes the River Rouge is a likely place that all three could have ended up in but Michigan has more than one body of water, they could have been lost and ended up else where. The waters in and around the Great Lakes don't often give up their dead too. It's a well known fact.
As many others have commented - cars going into lakes and rivers is the reason for a great many disappearances. Finding these sunken vehicles is almost always purely by chance, and usually it happens years after the incident occurred. But it does happen. I would assume by now that there's probably nothing left of the 1937 Oldsmobile or the three people who were inside it, wherever it happened to have ended up underwater.
Most all comments point to the river, which only makes sense, remember who was driving the car,and she probably lost control of the new car!.it's in that 20 mile stretch of river you can bet on that.
Not to beat a dead horse, but likely they met their end in a fatal car crash. Why was the car never found? Maybe they went farther than the search, maybe fell into a deep ravine or some land feature that still conceals the wreck. Just speculation, but I've seen other such videos where the missing were found in a river or bottom of a lake that had been searched decades later.
I would like to clarify an error in the video where it's stated that a helicopter was used in the search but it was actually a plane. I'm not sure how I missed that in editing. Apologies.
I had to back track to see if I heard right lol. By the way what's an air watcher?
I was curious about that and went to check the comments! Haha.

You don't have a border where anything such as papers are checked between states in USA.
There were helicopters in 1936 but they were largely experimental and as far as I'm aware there were no helicopters in the U.S. until the 40s
The car and their bodies are at the bottom of a waterbody somewhere with no foul play involved.
Yes speeding in thick fog,I agree with you.
yes, this is a very likely scenario as we have seen in many other cases.
I was thinking the same thing
...a tragic case of a car veering off the road
.
I agree
My thoughts as well foggy dark night and water right off the road makes sense
They're most likely at the bottom of a river or a lake somewhere
Yes according to latest findings they are....
Or river
Yeah , or if foul play, ? Bodies never found , either way, the car is in deep water with bones, or if ? Killed hidden well. Crazy.
There is a place in Nevada where there is a lake that is known as body lake where remains of people is out of the reach of divers and recoveries.
A very sad curious tale. I think erratic driving either through alcohol or by just plain showing off they somehow ended up in the murky river and are yet to be found. Great narration as always, I was hooked to the very last word!
I think the car is under a lot of silt. Maybe it can be discovered after a big flood.
Occam’s Razor = they ended up in the bottom of the river. There have been a few decades old cases where they found cars at the bottom of a body of water; thereby solving mass disappearances.
I was going to mention the Foss Lake, Oklahoma, vehicle discoveries
they find cars in bodies of water all the time some have dead occupants some are empty. how they got there is often a mystery.

back in the eighties there was an article in one of the detroit papers about replacement of a bridge over the huron river in wayne county , several families contacted officials and construction company asking that they would keep an eye out for any vehicals in the river. as their relatives had gone missing along that route, the workers actually found several cars including a model t with two bodies , the cars found i believe dated from the teens too the fifties , and i think more than one had bodies but they were never identified . some time in the thirties the detroit news had a autogyro , maybe?
Seems like something always happens to someone when someone else goes on a "hunting trip"
Hi everyone its Maryanne here i like watching videos about history and what happened to them i was in care all of my childhood until i was in my 20s iv only been out of care for 16 years i never got tought about history so im learning now by watching videos on you tube
Thank you for another great video, DC!
I'm at least 95% certain that they all drove into the river, or at least _a_ river. When one or more people disappear _with their vehicle_ it's pretty much certain that they drove into a river or lake.
My money is on the Black Legion. The last time these 3 were seen alive were by the police.....
Why did people look so much older back then? Anyway, that car is sitting underneath a body of water somewhere. There was a case recently in FL where a man found a car, in a lake, at the back of a development while looking at images on Google Maps. The man went missing 40 years ago and was found inside the car.
These types of cases usually have a car missing a turn and ending up in lake or river submerged. Happens often.
the most plausible is they plunged into a river or lake, not the best conditions, late at night. someday the auto will be found, when the water is low enough, similar to cases we've seen come to light in the last few years.
Thank you for uploads your voice is amazing
You sid such an excellent job on this one.......as you always do! So, thanks!
I wonder what these three had in common, enough to all three hop in a car together at such late hours. Their ages were all different. Where did they go for those 40 mins? and then they headed back to the cafe then left again together? it sounds like they had something planned for the night (morning)..... I had NEVER heard of this case. Good job!
I went to high school in Melvindale and I had never heard of this.
Beautifully done as always. How sad for their loved ones having no answers. I also think they are in the car deep in the river & hopefully will be found soon...that or aliens got them 😁. Thank You 💚
Great video presentation, always!
These three seem an unlikely trio, just outside looking in... A young man with the two older ladies? Granted, he did know one on a business level. I just can't quite imagine what these three would be doing together at 2am? Very strange, indeed...
Thumbs down? Seriously? Love listening to your channel! ❤
I see you’re gaining subscribers 👍 you deserve many more.
An old video i missed so I am watching now 4 years later wow an older case.
When the Army Corp of engineers dredged the river to add a concrete lining, the car was found with the skeletal remains still inside. The Dearborn press and guide has it in their archives. My Dad was the guy that positively identified the car. Strangely it had the wrong hubcaps on it, which caused it to be misidentified by the police at first. Remember the afternoon vividly.
This is actually really scary even if there was no foul play.
Excellent post! Loved the presentation.
Very interesting story, love your videos ;)
My sister recommended this channel to me and this is the first time watching you! I loved this video an I’m can’t wait to watch more! ❤️👍🏼This is kind of creepy considering I live close to melvindale!!!
They will eventually find them, still in the car, at the bottom of a body of water somewhere.
Thank you l really enjoyed this story, more please. It is good that you speak slowly sometimes people speak too fast
And you miss most of the story. 😊
Great job as always
I really like this channel it's really professional.
Very well done, the voice and the rhythm of the narrator is great.
Keep up the good work !
Your voice is lovely! A fully informative channel.!
Whaaaaat I live like 20 minutes from Melvindale & I've never even heard of this case! That's crazy
Watching this in Melvindale!
Peter B Beautiful Haven’t watched yet. Is this Melvindale Michigan? I grew up there in the late 1970s and early 1980s
They're somewhere in water. They just haven't been found.
Man, Thomas was a good looking guy.
It's tragic the loved ones of these 3 never got any answers or closure. I wonder if they will ever be found, or if their ending will ever come to light. I hope so. 😥
Good video. Great tale. Well narrated.
Excellent channel. Excellent narration. Subscribed.👍
I've never heard of this and I live in Detroit! Thanks for a great video
Excellent video as usual. You are fantastic, and why you don't get more views is beyond me.. Keep doing what you do and we will be here. Subbed b4 it aired!
My new favourite channel!!! I love it.
I believe the car may have went off the road into a river as they were intoxicated. This happened with some young girls whose car went over the bridge. Maybe in time someone will spot the car in the river, as it's been nearly 83 years and I'm sure it will be found one day.
There are rivers so deep that it is possible that they were driving drunk crashed and went in the deepest psrt of the river
Man I wish I grew up back then. Great video!! Thank you!!
I love your obsure stories.....good job....could you do old Hollywood actors murders like the actor who played Superman on TV in the 5Os in the states.. George Reeves
Cali Den .......and Sal Mineo !
Gee, there isn't already enough info out there on over done cases? Hi! Can you do more of what everyone else does?
Am I the only 1, who finds it weird, that Artie's husband divorced her rather than having her declared dead? He had to wait just as long, and since he didnt remarry, there was no rush, and the choice of a divorce with no apparent need seems even weirder. Tho I guess, there could be some legal grounds, Im not aware of, but then Im back to why divorce her, when every1 else in that sad situation have their spouse declared dead.
I'm from and live in Detroit. Never heard of this !
Fantastic channel, ma'am.
Yeah it’s a nice new car that probably was capable of speed. He let Margaret drive. She would not be familiar with driving the car. They had been drinking. It was night and foggy. Probably went off the road into the river. Maybe black ice on the road
From my experience in missing people's cases--they are all three in the car in water.
Who’s putting the 👎 I’m seriously surprised 😱 this is a marvellous channel
As many others have commented - cars going into lakes and rivers is the reason for a great many disappearances. Finding these sunken vehicles is almost always purely by chance, and usually it happens years after the incident occurred. But it does happen. I would assume by now that there's probably nothing left of the 1937 Oldsmobile or the three people who were inside it, wherever it happened to have ended up underwater.
Most all comments point to the river, which only makes sense, remember who was driving the car,and she probably lost control of the new car!.it's in that 20 mile stretch of river you can bet on that.
That's in my neck of the woods!
Mine also.
Im in Southgate but lived in
Melvindale a few yrs back
Not to beat a dead horse, but likely they met their end in a fatal car crash. Why was the car never found? Maybe they went farther than the search, maybe fell into a deep ravine or some land feature that still conceals the wreck. Just speculation, but I've seen other such videos where the missing were found in a river or bottom of a lake that had been searched decades later.
Excellent channel - subscribed!
Sounds to me like they crashed into a lake or river and it has just yet to be discovered
I think I follow this just for that intro music.
