Look at the defense that will be in front of U.P.L. this coming season compared to last season. With an almost brand new bottom six forwards who are much more physical and defensively inclined, the shots that U.P.L. will have to face should be dramatically lower, plus a healthy Samuelsson will help in that regard. A healthy Jack Quinn should bring Cozens back to his previous-season form, especially if Peterka can continue to develop. The future is looking brighter, if they can avoid the injury bug!

Serevalli reports that the Sabres had a deal for Necas but he wouldn’t sign here, so people really can’t accuse Adams of not trying as much as it sucks to admit. Zegras/Farabee/Laine all make sense for us now preferably Farabee as the #1 choice, and I think Laine would waive his NTC to get out of of Columbus so we’ll see what else he has up his sleeve

One option I see for UPL in a trade in the future could be to the Islanders if Patrick Roy is still coaching there.
With Roy coaching UPL in Juniors, he may try and get the team to bring him in.
Also, Varlomov is 36 now and will be gone by then and Sorokin will be 32 and may or may not see his game time decreasing, that is if he doesn’t want out of there by then.

I have a feeling that if UPL gets hurt this year and is out for more than 2 weeks.. Levi could supplant him quickly. Levi might also take another year and UPL would be expendable. time will tell. I'm not a fan of 5 years.. but if UPL keeps up his play from last year, he will have value in a trade.

Levi needs to be in Rochester this whole season other than a few call ups. That 1 year. Moved up as #2 year 2. Year 3 he will be competing with UPL for starts and he will earn 50/50 starts with UPL. Year 4 you have 2 studs who split games. Year five is the same and if levi is what we think then you can trade upl at the deadline year five. Five years is perfect. Levi gets to develop and work into his game. UPL holds it down and they become an insane combo for a little while.

I was very surprised how UPL got thrown away by yourself and many fans last year with goalies being slow developing generally.I do get why everyone was loving Levi as do I but he too is young and really unproven and was more so last year . Remember Theodore of Montreal?
I like the look of our goaltending and defence and the bottom six but we have big questions marks on some of our top six .

Commenting as im watching. I hope you bring up that UPL had double hip surgery in april of 2019. Played a few AHL games and like 20 with Cincinnati. So from 2020-2021 season to last season he has won starter in the AHL, moves up and won starter in the NHL. Thats 4 seasons!!

The ONLY upside to Laine is that we need a LW’er after buying out Skinner, and with him being much more talented than Olofsson was, we don’t need him to be a two-way player as much with the players we brought in.
Down side is, without knowing why he was the Assistance Program, I always get nervous when a player that’s as crazy Talented as Laine is, moves around the league as often as he has. Probably too much of a Red Flag for a team that’s trying to end a drought.

All those guys are going to cost a good chunk of cash, and with that Byrum contract and what he will be expecting - too much of the cap is spent on the top 4 defense. That’s 32.5M out of the 88M cap. Too much I think

Joe- Laine is more than a “supped-up” Olofsson ….he is a younger, much more talented NHL caliber point per game player. Generational goal scorer and still hasn’t hit his prime and has been on awful teams. If you put him on a line with McDavid he would probably have 70 goals.

90 percent of goaltending is mental. I do not believe UPL has the mental toughness to win a Stanley Cup. It doesn't matter if your big you have to play goal you have to stop the puck. UPL is still a shot blocker and it will catch up to him maybe even this year.
