Buyout is too much. Obviously he’s not a $9 mill player. Maybe a little more than half. I’d trade him. Chicago was my plan to or Utah. But if there are no takers keep him. Personally I think Toronto would be a good pitch. Give them Skinner ($3 mill held), 11th overall, Samuelson, Rosen/Ostlund in exchange for a signed Marner. Resign Jokiharju and have Ryan Johnson up full time next season.

Missing the playoffs by 1 point 2 seasons ago. Patrick Kane signed with Detroit "hoping to make the playoffs" & how did that turn out? Sabres need to lock in Byram, UPL & JJP next. After that is probably about 2 bridge deals (maybe 3). Plus they have Tuch to possibly resign. Sabres need to still be smart with their salary cap. I hope so but i dont think they will as it will be a 6 million cap hit in the next 2 years i believe. Cheaper to buy him out next summer or Adams just needs to sit him down and say Jeff you will be a 3rd line player here in Buffalo or a 1st line player in Chicago San Jose or Anahiem . Skinner will then most likely remove his NMC . Only problem then is convincing one of those teams or any team to take on Skinners contract . I would assume Adams would retain part of Skinners contract. Other option as you said bring in a veteran third line centre( John Tavares?) and put Skinner on his line. IMO Greenway will be on the 4th line with Krebs and a UFA veteran winger like Ryan Lomberg FLA . Thanks for the video , have a good vacation!

UPL has 1 good season under his belt. He wasn't great in the AHL or the NHL up until this past season. Yes, he's had injuries which may be the cause of it, but honestly, if we overpay on UPL to keep him, thats poor management. Give him a bridge deal for 2-3 years.

Call me crazy but if UPL is gonna play hardball just trade him now and get someone else to pair with Levi, UPL had one good half year this year has never been consistent a full year needs to prove it still no time for games

You're not crazy. Levi in the fold gives the Sabres some maneuvering room. I hate when a player has one promising season and then their agent wants a big time payoff.

Sabres have already invested a lot of time and patience with UPL. Playing hardball with him now, when he's on the verge of stardom, is playing with fire. Sign him quickly. Forget about Levi, he's still a season or two away from starting imo...

Theres no way id invest 8 years of a contract to him with levi possibly on the way and not knowing upl's ceiling

The contract should only be a year. Perserve the RFA status to see what he truly is.

UPL going to Arbitration is going to be an EPIC mistake! For starters, UPL made this jump in his career because he gained a lot of confidence in his game because of the vote of confidence the Sabres gave him by making him the official #1. Up until that point, you could tell that his game was shaky and you could see the doubt in his game up until that point. Which is why going to arbitration is a MISTAKE! It’s well known that whenever the two (Player and Management) meet with the Arbiter, that the team goes in hard and goes right for the players throat. If they go in there, the team is going to have to bring up that up until January, that they had very little confidence in his game, and that they aren’t sure if the end of this past season was a “fluke”. I could see that setting UPL’s game back a good amount if it were to go down that way. There’s no way the team will go in there and say “Yeah. He’s amazing and deserves everything he asks for”. So to avoid taking a chance of setting UPL’s game back a year or two, I believe they need to work this out without any outside influences.

If UPL gets a 2 yr arbitration deal, what's his status when that deal is done?

      He will need a contract

I believe he would be a UFA because he would be 27 when the 2 year contract expires.

7 or 8 years...... Fuck that. I'd rather trade his rights. I'm sorry. One year. He had one good year. He'd been struggling for years before that. Go to hell with 7 or 8 years.

I certainly don’t wanna give UPL a 7 or 8 year deal. 4 or 5 would be okay
