      My husband always carried the larger life insurance policy while I carried just enough to cover expenses and time off, but he hasn't worked in a year. Your sponsor break actually reminded me that I am actually the person that should have a larger policy. (At least term). So, perfect timing?
      He's not currently working because I harassed him for 3 years to quit and just take a mental break for a while. (High stress tech/security field)

    this is a great lesson in the obvious, which is to do your plumbing before drywall

  • @tcmaes21
    @tcmaes21 2 месяца назад +17

    Not only should you be siliconing around the pan, but I believe you should be siliconing all of the vertical corners and against the ceiling. Basically anywhere there can be movement between different planes.

    Looks great!!
    Few pointers for next time… ruffing all your plumbing before drywall. Also placing your shower mixer on the window wall towards the niche side, this makes sure you can turn shower on without getting wet.
    Love your work from down under Australia 🇦🇺

    • @Lolliegoth

      Did that in my bathroom - mixer on side wall - not under shower. This also helps if someone needs to be showered by a carer. From AU.

      don't forget the shower tile NOT MATCHING ANMYTHING IN THE BATHROOM..... AND EVERY ROOM IN THE HOUSE NOT BEING MATCHED TO ANYTHING ELSE!!!! There is a different look to every room, there is NO PLAN to the look of this place......
      Now that doesn't take away from the quality of the work, everything I've seen him do is done REALLY WELL, he knows what he's doing for sure..... but that's why design, engineering, and construction are 3 different professions .... Mind you I couldn't do any of the three, but I could wire the house up with computers, networking, security, sound, an AI in each room :D

  • @tsaltyginger
    @tsaltyginger 2 месяца назад +11

    The only thing differently I would have to suggest after seeing the layout of the shower is putting the shower valve on the wall right when you enter into the shower. Turning on that shower to let it warm up is going to be rough.

  • @Arisilde
    @Arisilde 2 месяца назад +125

    Nice build 👍but that screwed up floor pattern hurts my soul. Got some of the sheets backwards and it threw of the pattern of the black tiles. Also, probably should have cut all the tiles for the top of the curb so that the seam ran down the center. Those thin edge tiles are going to be prone to breaking off. Plus it just would've looked nicer and the shower glass would've lined up with and covered most of the seam.

    just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should do something. It's a recipe for disaster. Always best to have counter measures for your counter measures. It may seem overkill, but its better than having to come back in 5 years to a completely rotted out wall. Waterproofing is so important.

    For everyone watching the video, always do the behind-the-scenes stuff before putting on the finished material like drywall or Durock. Get your rough in valves installed. I understand he does the steps that he does because of filming, but it’s all in the wrong order. It creates more work, money spent, and time wasted. I would consider building your own niche. We built two custom ones at our house to fit our tile design, and we’re so happy with it. Plus, you can build a nice big one if you want.

    The bathroom looks great, but I think it is overkill for such a small house. You should have made it the master only and made a second full bath in the basement, maybe a powder room on the main floor if you could find the space. It would have been nice if such a large shower had been made more accessible with a less deep pan.

    Tips for your Teflon, you place on the piece in the same way you’re going to screw it (usually clockwise) but you should unroll the tape in the opposite direction from (counterclockwise I think) what your were doing, it’ll prevent the tape from forever unrolling and you having to turn the piece in your hand to get rid of the extra length unrolling. Also, regular Teflon tape, 7 to 8 turns are usually plenty and you could add a bit of Teflon paste. The tape fill the screws lines and paste help lubricate and turn easier and fill whatever gap could still be left.

    Pretty sure you applied the membrane in the wrong order. Should always overlap in the opposite direction that water wil flow (i.e. walls overlaping corner/edge folded tape overlaping the floor system). By installing the edge/corners after the walls, you've created a situation where water can run down and behind it into the wall.

    • @fd3871

    Next time do the shower pan and curdy band first, then your walls. That way you are shingling the water barrier. The way it is now, if enough moisture got behind the tile, it has a risk (slight) of water flowing behind the banding and corners and between your precut pan and floor. Otherwise, cool stuff, easy to use.
