Khaki Macaroni I have three words of advice for any sopranos who perform this song with regard to the last "birds": "Deep breath" and "SUPPORT"!!! LOL! 8)
The boys at my high school did this just last night. The audience could not stop laughing. It got to the spoken part, but for the boys, it was “Well, actually, I kept one of the eight maids ‘a milking.” I was not at all surprised with who they chose to say that. His delivery was perfect. XD
I did this song in high school. I loved it then, and still love it...many, many years later! This choir director absolutely NAILED this song!! WELL DONE!!!
This brings back so many memories. I was lucky enough to be part of a group that performed this as part of our program back in 1978. Thanks for posting
This song is best sung after the chorus sings The 12 Days of Christmas - which is exactly what happened when I sang with the Memphis Symphony Chorus. I've always wanted to participate in a chorus concert that had the 12 Days of Christmas followed by The 12 Days After Christmas, and my wish finally came true one year when I was singing with the chorus. I always enjoyed my time with the Memphis Symphony Chorus when we did the home for the holidays concert for the Christmas season and the Masterworks concert in the spring. I sang with the chorus from 1995-2006 and I hated giving that up, but I lost my day job.
Sang this with my high school Madrigal Ensemble, Christmas of 1973. Thanks for the memory! Laughing and crying at the same time as I watched and listened. Peace and joy!
One of my all-time favorite Christmas songs. I sang it in several choral groups almost 50 years ago and I've loved it ever since. And it isn't even close, but this is the best performance on RUclips, by far. So many others ham it up, which is an easy mistake to make. That gets in the way. Let the words do the comedy and it will do the work itself. And the southern accent on "Actually, I kept one of the drummers" was hysterical. Brilliant job.
In elementary and middle school I kept asking my teacher about this song(I used to be obsessed with it) and as soon as I got to high school we sang it.
It’s a tradition at my school for one of our women’s choirs to sing this song and it is so much fun. We even get a drummer from the marching band to come out and drum a little when one of the girls says that she kept a drummer
The acapella group I joined two weeks ago is doing this song for their show on the 6th and learning it tonight with the group made me laugh so much. It's an awesome song and I can't wait to sing it but I've got to get my laughing under control for the show.
Wow, this takes me back... way back - 1975, my 5th grade choir, and surprisingly all of the words are still bouncing around in the old thinking cap. I really enjoyed this version from the Boyd High School A Cappella choir. Great job!
Im a first tenor and this song is golden. Our after school boys concert choir (we call it Something Musical) loves this!! Since im first tenor we have to sing the melody on the part (my favorite) where they strangle the twin doves, and my teacher keeps telling us to make it sound beautiful LMAO
Jazz did this last night for the Christmas concert, and might I say, this acap sounds SOOOOOO much better than jazz, sorry to any jazz members reading this :)
Another one goes: My landlord had the pear tree and the partridge yesterday. I have done quite enough, perhaps I'll let you stay. The moral of the story is perhaps I'll let you choose, mainly... Don't take this from strangers, at least gifts you cannot use! Bah humbug!
my choir is doing this song and i thought to watch other people do it to see if i was doing it right and i think im doing it find lol but its december 8th and i have to go from trumpet section to choir section for the songs
*school appropriate lyrics* The first day after Christmas, My true love and I had a fight. And so I chopped the pear tree down, and burned it just for spite. Then just to send a message, I freed that blasted partridge, my true love (my true love) my true love (my true) my true love gave to me. The second day after Christmas, I found a mess from above. So very gently I released both of the turtle doves, my true love gave to me. The third day after Christmas, my mother caught the croup. I had to use the three French hens to make some chicken soup my true love gave to me. The four calling birds were a big mistake, for their language was obscene. The five gold rings were completely fake and they turned my fingers green. The sixth day after Christmas, the six laying geese wouldn't lay. I have the whole darn gaggle to the ASPCA. On the seventh day what a mess I found all seven of the swimming swans had drowned my true love gave to me. The eighth day after Christmas, before they could suspect, I bundled up the eight maids of milking nine pipers piping ten ladies dancing 'leven lords of leeping twelve drummers drumming (well actually I kept one of the drummers) and sent them back collect. I said my true love, we are through love, and I said in so many words, furthermore your Christmas gifts were for the birds (four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree)
I'm doing this at my high school, and, gosh, we (the sopranos) have to hold out the word "birds" for the last 20 seconds of the song! =P
Helps if you get rid of the r and say it like your harry potter
Lol. Thanks!
Im singing it in highschool as a tenner I can see the challenge you are having, the sopranos in my class say its hard so they say birds like buds
Khaki Macaroni I have three words of advice for any sopranos who perform this song with regard to the last "birds": "Deep breath" and "SUPPORT"!!! LOL! 8)

In elementary and middle school I kept asking my teacher about this song(I used to be obsessed with it) and as soon as I got to high school we sang it.

Can't really call it acapella with piano accompaniment.
I don't understand, this is an a cappella choir. Why is there an accompanist?
As an a cappella choir, they probably sing a cappella most of the time, but this piece is written to have accompaniment to it.
Stratford sing it too at charismas choir
go first sopranos
This sucks
