I've visited Gibraltar a few times by car from Marbella.
Best way, if you do go by car, is to park in the huge car park on the Spanish side and walk over the border. There's a local coach just over the border for the return trip into the town centre.
Small anecdote: One time my wife said to the guard at passport control on the way in "Buenos Dias" and he replied "Good Morning Madam. You're in Britain now" 🙂

I’ll hazard that the ‘ wogs begin in Calais ‘ crowd would certainly sneer at that meal, even chucking it into the category of ‘ foreign mook ‘.

Fish skin is generally safe to eat . It is rich in nutrients such as protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamin E, which can help with muscle growth, heart health, and skin health. My wife has been encouraged to eat fish with skin on for a serious health issue. Cheers!

We did a day trip to Gibraltar, by coach, when we were visiting Benalmádena on holiday 20 years ago and really loved it. Those fish and chips didn't look the best at all and the £21.45 price point is very overpriced in my opinion. Really enjoyed the video though. I think every Brit that visits Gibraltar is always amazed by the British shops there like M&S.
We met a lovely elderly couple waiting for the coach and he was wearing a fishing jacket with lots of pockets all over it. I asked what kind of fishing he enjoyed and he told me that he didn't fish, but the jacket was good for smuggling extra pouches of tobacco over the border in! 😂 Bless'em very enterprising and a great way to top up your pension! 😊

Loved Gibraltar , done a day trip there twice from Albufeira. A 500 mile round trip , getting picked up at 4 in the morning and returning about 3. Like you we only got 5 hours there. A lot of upgrading of buildings getting done and it looks a lot cleaner now. The highlight was the apes. Another informative vlog, thank you

Another great video for me. My grandad stood guard outside the Governor's House back in the 1920s when he was in the army. We then used to make a trip to Gibraltar every year when we had a timeshare in Marbella in the early 2000s so it all looks very familiar still. Prices have definitely gone up though since we were last there but definitely agree that it's a great place to go for a day. So much history there going back to the early 1700s for Britain and a shame really not to have at least seen an ape or seen some of the tunnels - hard to think that there are over 30 miles of tunnels inside the Rock! Looks like you've had a pretty memorable trip to the Costa

Looks very like the fried fish I got served up in Gibraltar at another restaurant off main street. It was advertised as cod , but looked nothing like the cod from back home in the UK. Your mate is right probably right, they serve you any kind of fish at other restaurants ! I did love Gibraltar for a few days stay, very interesting place. We flew in direct from UK, great experience to land on that runway directly in front of the rock face.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about Gibraltar as it is an interesting place to visit for a day when staying on the Spanish coast. Like you I find it ant weird being in Spain one minute the going through customs and being in a small British town. Liked your tours of the back streets especially. A tip for day trippers is that you can get a trip by taxi around the Rock which takes you to all the historic sites (and Apes too!). Glad your back on fine firm and stay well.

Which is why to this day surgeons are referred to by the title Mr. and medical doctors are Dr. These days most surgeons are also medical doctors, but originally they could give you a short back and sides along with your tonsilectony... Oh and the red and white barber pole symbolises blood and bandages.

Oil not hot enough. Criminal for a chippy. Can tell because the chips, even though fairly thick cut, are see through on the outside, that’s cause oil had soaked the potato for a few minutes before the outside cooks. Fish fried in shallow, not hot enough oil and never flipped, so they’re looking at the top for colour which inevitably takes forever so the bottom burns. Shockingly priced for drab well done for eating as much as you did 😂

We liked it that much we are going back again next month but instead of driving down from our hotel which was in Benalmadena we are flying straight into Gibraltar and staying at a lovely hotel there, what I did want to add was that we hired a car last September from Click Rent when we touched down in Malaga who were very good and drove around all the different towns but more importantly it only took us 20 minutes getting through customs into Gibraltar and not the three hours that you mentioned, maybe we were lucky on that day, not sure but it was quite easy and we got to see a lot more of Gibraltar having the car. and the accordionist plays 'Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner'." And spending four days on the tarmac at Luton airport on a five-day package tour with nothing to eat but dried BEA-type sandwiches and you can't even get a drink of Watney's Red Barrel because you're still in England and the bloody bar closes every time you're thirsty and there's nowhere to sleep and the kids are crying and vomiting and breaking the plastic ash-trays and they keep telling you it'll only be another hour although your plane is still in Iceland and has to take some Swedes to Yugoslavia before it can load you up at 3 a.m. in the bloody morning and you sit on the tarmac till six because of "unforeseen difficulties", i.e. the permanent strike of Air Traffic Control in Paris - and nobody can go to the lavatory until you take off at 8, and when you get to Malaga airport everybody's swallowing "enterovioform" and queuing for the toilets and queuing for the armed customs officers, and queuing for the bloody bus that isn't there to take you to the hotel that hasn't yet been finished. And when you finally get to the half-built Algerian ruin called the Hotel del Sol by paying half your holiday money to a licensed bandit in a taxi you find there's no water in the pool, there's no water in the taps, there's no water in the bog and there's only a bleeding lizard in the bidet. And half the rooms are double booked and you can't sleep anyway because of the permanent twenty-four-hour drilling of the foundations of the hotel next door - and you're plagued by appalling apprentice chemists from Ealing pretending to be hippies, and middle-class stockbrokers' wives busily buying identical holiday villas in suburban development plots just like Esher, in case the Labour government gets in again, and fat American matrons with sloppy-buttocks and Hawaiian-patterned ski pants looking for any mulatto male who can keep it up long enough when they finally let it all flop out. And the Spanish Tourist Board promises you that the raging cholera epidemic is merely a case of mild Spanish tummy, like the previous outbreak of Spanish tummy in 1660 which killed half London and decimated Europe - and meanwhile the bloody Guardia are busy arresting sixteen-year-olds for kissing in the streets and shooting anyone under nineteen who doesn't like Franco. And then on the last day in the airport lounge everyone's comparing sunburns, drinking Nasty Spumante, buying cartons of duty free "cigarillos" and using up their last pesetas on horrid dolls in Spanish National costume and awful straw donkeys and bullfight posters with your name on "Ordoney, El Cordobes and Brian Pules of Norwich" and 3-D pictures of the Pope and Kennedy and Franco, and everybody's talking about coming again next year and you swear you never will although there you are tumbling bleary-eyed out of a tourist-tight antique Iberian airplane

Hi Lee. Just came across your vids on RUclips yesterday (09/10/23) and I can't stop watching them! So enjoyable, I love the fact that you are down to earth, nothing pretentious just good wholesome stuff. The fish and chip adventures are brilliant (every time I see you eating, I just want to go and get a fish supper!!) oh and I love the skin on fish - gives it a real 'fishy' taste 😂. I would give this one a 5.5.
Just one more thing, you mentioned in this vid that this is for the people of 'Britain'. Well now, you should have said the UK, cos I'm watching from N Ireland and we are 'British' too😉.
So many more of your vids to watch........C'mon!

Gibraltar is a British territory. The people hold British passports. They have voted in referenda to maintain their ties to the UK, most recently in 2006, in which, apparently, the vote to remain as British citizens of a British Overseas Territory reached a staggering 100 %.

Hi Lee, I do think 3.7 was a bit mean though, based on looks I would have given 7.5. I wouldn't knock points off for skin, as that's personal preference, not restaurant fault. When younger, I didn't mind the skin, but as I'm older, I'm preferring skinless. I find up north that cod is usually skinless, haddock skin on.
Those chips, great colour, but sweetness could be the variety as you mentioned. I had some in Cornwall once that were really sweet but had a great brown colour, apparently that potato variety had a higher amount of sugar, so look great but taste a weird sweet,

Always the fussy eaters who don't try new things who don't want skin on their fish - Words from an old school mate whose parents ran a Chinese chippy. He said they did haddock skin on, cod off as cod skin is too thick.
Now..... who do we know who orders the same Indian and Chinese meals every time ....... 😂😂😂
Great vid again Lee, loving the series.

I stay in Gibraltar a lot and to be honest with you, if Roy's chip shop were in the U.K. then you would go elsewhere to a proper chip shop.
Because it's competition here in Gib is so weak it seems ok but it's not good and it's expensive.

living in Notts im used to having skin on the fish. It doesn't matter to me. just close your eyes and eat it and pretend its batter. You cant taste it. I cant believe how English looking Gibraltar is, but twice the price lol 👍

Well it's 2:45am here in COSTA ADEJE and I've just finished watching Gibraltar "at 1,75 speed 🤪" thought it was the Morrisons one but thoroughly enjoyed it... skin on fish? best bit... drenches the fish with vinegar... soggy on the top and crispy on the Botton? I watched with a directors eye and love the visuals... locked off camera, BRoll, Music you, my friend are a true professional (screws the top back on the gin bottle) hic...! G'Night

Skin on always! Love the saltiness that it adds to the dish. For a home-country trip I'd highly recommend popping to North Norfolk and visiting places like Wells-Next-The-Sea to enjoy French's Fish & Chips and a walk along "the bar" down to the most beautiful beach in the country, backed by a pine forest and sand dunes all the way along to Holkham. It's a beautiful, quaint town that has retained so much of it's old school beauty. Great pubs too, pop to The Globe for dinner one night and then spend a few days in the area visiting the coastal towns like Blakeney, Stiffkey, Sheringham and Cromer (instead of Great Yarmouth etc.) If you need any further recommendations, let me know!
