- The MacMaster is in Benidorm and you may have already seen his Review of Ray’s 2 Chippy which is owned by June, one of the original owners. This time he’s at Ray’s 1 Chippy which is The original Ray’s and also the Oldest Fish and Chip Shop in Benidorm, this however is not affiliated with Rays 2 and are not the original owners. The BIG Question is though, who has The Best Fish and Chips in Benidorm? Let’s find out in The Battle of The Batter.

My lady wife and myself have been visiting lovely benidorm for a good 10yrs and have always eaten at Rays 2 with no complaints but after seeing your marvellous video feel we should go and try Ray's 1 which although as I mentioned earlier that we've been visiting for a good 10yrs hadn't come across Ray's 1 and was very surprised to see where it was in the old town, but that's the thing about this wonderful place no matter how many times you visit you always find something new. I always feel that it's a pity the rest of this world wasn't just a bit like benidorm it would be a far nicer place to live for an awful lot of people
I enjoyed Rays 1 - that's me at 9min 17sec ! But I will try Rays 2 next out of interest, reviews are great, thanks Lee.
It looked good Lee, but the batter looked a bit soggy. Rays 2 still has my vote. 8.5 on this one.
I put a few drops of curry sauce as well as pepper.and vinegar on my mushy peas only lively

Used to be a great chippy on Bridge Street, Evesham. Run by Greek Cypriots. The owners (husband and wife), always yelling at each other, 8 kids running around the shop, him dropping fag ash into the fryer. He used to wear slippers all the time. You could see him shuffling to the bookies next door before lunchtime opening. Two pieces of fish stuck together…that was one portion! Now, THAT, was a fantastic fish and chips!
The best fish and chips in Benidorm without a doubt, The chips are fresh, peeled and cut and the quality of the fish is very good, the battered chicken is amazing, Everything is very good, Regarding the battered fish, it's something personal .
Salt first, then vinegar as the vinegar draws the salt down with it. Then just a bit more salt on top. This works especially well with a chip cone.

I'd give it a 6 if you are dishing up chips you would notice any bad chips and remove them.

It’s good to see so many older people escaping the British winter. I’m sure they benefit from the sunshine and the cheap prices. The fish and chips looked delicious. Nice white fish, chunky chips, mushy peas of an appropriate colour and a curry sauce. I like mine a bit yellower than that but for the money, excellent.
I always have a winter sun holiday at this time of the year. Seeing as the last one was in February of 2020 due to the dreaded lurge
Hey Lee! I have to agree about Ray’s 2 having the best batter, although both fish looked amazing Didn’t get as many chips either at Rays 2. Sometimes the little places have that character you want to go back to every time, And Rays 1 is a winner. What cracking value for money on what you got there. Having to draw cash out the ATM should put the score down a little more to 9.5

I had pigeon (breast) many years ago at Stringfellow's night club in London. It was delicious, but I have been unable to find it on a menu elsewhere.
Where do we start, milk before tea isn’t controversial it’s foolish, adding milk after you can judge when it’s right to much milk at the beginning your stuck with it, it seems gone is the day when you could ask for the tail end of cod which use to be a lot better in my opinion, that piece you had where it splits in two I think tends to rubberise it a bit, for that reason 8.8/10. Glad you’re enjoying Benidorm great vid.

I'm from the North East and Curry Sauce belongs with Fish and Chips along with mushy peas and scraps. Our Chippy offers both Chinese and Fish shop curries. I would give Rays 1 an 8 against the 10 for Rays 2.
I prefer a thin coating and the batter soft. Don't like hard crispy batter. Just salt. I don't like vinegar.

Brought back some memories as I used to go in the original shop in the early 80’s. It’s certainly changed as it was an old fashioned chippy with a few tables inside if I remember right.

Always carry some cash mac. Cards do have their convenience but the amount of fraud is astounding, only ever use the cash machines in the bank.
That's a bargain price for fish and chips. If I ever go back to Spain to Benidorm, I will visit Ray's 1 and Ray's 2 and indulge and enjoy this with Estrella Cerveza or Vino Blanco Español

Ray 2 for me - even if you went on about Iris so much I thought a proposal was on the cards...
That looked traditional. Cash is king, some of them ATMs do not charge, ask around. I reckon that was Haddock, as it was very thin. 8/10 no tartare sauce and only 1 slice of bread. It was an average kinda price. I would go with Rays-1 given the option. Where's the Paella? LOL

Sweet to watch. I was 12 till I got overseas - to Majorca. First overseas holiday. You got Benidorm what, two years before? (We’re the same age) My trip was a big deal for my folks. Glad you enjoyed. Majorca has lovely places. It’s otherwise been Andalusia for me. Would like to see you in Malaga and it’s ‘environs’.

Hi Lee, that fish looks huge and I could just eat that. My personal opinion is that I love curry with fish, chips & peas, it's a must, like with bread & butter. It's funny that we all say "salt & vinegar" but I always put vinegar on first then the salt as I think the vinegar washes the salt away.

You are swaying my mind to give Benidorm a visit one day. It will be a train journey from the UK to the resort, just to change things a bit. To be honest with you, we have Tenerife in our hearts now, thanks to your vlogs back in 2020 and then some.
Not been to Benidorm for 30 years .. just started going back .. November time .. been good
I love Tenerife.. BUT Tenerife expensive to get there now.€1 pint good .. but not if flights and accommodation expensive.. . Mind still cheaper than in UK
