Congratulations 🎉 on reaching 124K Lee , it never goes unnoticed by me Xx
Thank you x
Keep doing British food in foreign countries. You will get plenty of it in Australia as well as other things..
As a melton mowbray native i can definitively say pork pies should be cold
I can tell you enjoyed that ploughman's lunch as you kept nodding your head it looked amazing another great video☺
3 times same place.......we know what you are going to get here. 😀
Their roasts were awful (and you loved it for some reason.?)
Honest review of the meal. ....
It looked like something chucked together from an understocked Tesco express. Its a bloody awful excuse of a ploughman's Lee 😂😂😂
Love the vids dude, keep on rolling!
They don't do roast dinners!!! That's not The Drunken Sailor.
@@TheMacMaster Well the tin food pie & fake crust then, was that them?
With chips lined up like a kids plate.?
Not being nasty, just honest, I swear.
I watch, as I love the vids, as I've always said. I stick to my honest food opinions 😃
Looked all processed ain’t good for ya, looked shite to me tbf
It does look amazing. I saw the other video with the pie ( as you called it lol)..
But yeah looks damn good mate
Pork pies MUST be cold - the jelly is the best part. I am not a 'rabbit food' person but I would def eat that ploughmans. Top Vlog as usual, Lee.
Pork pies are nice warm with mushy peas and mint sauce proper Yorkshire grub
Cold pie
Ive lived in melton mowbray all my life, you are correct noting better than a cold pork pie 🥮
I have really enjoyed your holiday videos and blogs
Thank you. ❤️
Happy Sunday.
*Congratulations. 124K Subscribers.*
You like what you like. And that's alright.
I love a Ploughman's.
Have a lovely evening. x
Plough mans comes from when the farmers wives took a picnic lunch to the farmers when they were plough the fields after harvest in the horse and cart days!
Ploughmans looked great! I’m a cold pork pie man myself with Coleman’s English mustard , I’d definitely give it a 9 , enjoy your stay Lee always a pleasure to watch your travels 👍
Hola Lee I'll be in the Costa del sol in Nov to celebrate my birthday so I'll definitely visit the drunken sailor it looks like a quality restaurant thanks for a great video☺
The phrase ‘Ploughman’s Lunch’ was first promoted by the Milk Marketing Board in the 1960s as part of a campaign to promote the sales of cheese, especially in pubs123. However, the concept of the combination of ingredients is much older. The meal in its modern context was likely created in the 1950s, and its popularity grew in the ’60s, when the Milk Marketing Board featured it in advertising campaigns to boost national cheese sales23. The original ploughman lunch was simply a combination of bread, cheese, and pickle which was washed down with beer, ale or cider
The Ploughman's lunch as we know it became popular after Milk Marketing Board adverts in the 70's, which were aimed at increasing British cheese consumption, namely cheddar. However, I am certain that the concept existed long before then. It's a 'picky' lunch/tea of great British foodstuffs after all!
The term "ploughman's lunch" was invented in 1957 by the Cheese Bureau, an organization that promoted cheese sales. The Cheese Bureau encouraged pubs to serve the meal, which consists of bread, cheese, salad, and pickle.
The meal was a marketing ploy to sell British cheese in pubs.
The meal gained popularity after a nationwide marketing push from 1958 to 1977.
The concept of the meal's ingredients is much older.
The meal was a mainstay of farmers.
It was mentioned in the 1837 book Memoirs of the life of Sir Walter Scott by John G. Lockhart.
In 1891, a group of ploughmen took their employer to court after being served something other than bread and cheese. The court found in their favor and restored their right to bread and cheese.
As late as the 1870s, farmworkers in Devon were said to eat "bread and hard cheese at 2d. a pound, with cider very washy and sour" for their midday meal. While this diet was associated with rural poverty, it also gained associations with more idealised images of rural life.
That was a good-looking ploughman's worth the money.
Oh, pork pie should always be warm but that could be because I'm a Yorkshire lad
Thanks Lee keep the great work my freind.
Oh, best meal yet. I'd demolish that plate full. Love the fresh ingredients, warm and cold, sweet and savoury. Yum.
Good looking ploughman’s lunch Lee.
How about hiring a little car out and going off the tourist trail?
Looks nice that, only issue for me would be I’d want a lot more bread and butter lol!!
OMG I love the jelly in a pork pie.
Another great Video Lee safe travels 🍻🙏🍻
Yum, looked good. I thought ploughmans lunch was bread, cheese, onions, some homemade pickle and a pie made from whatever the farmers wife did with the odd bits of the home reared cow, sheep or pig when it had been cut into joints. Personally we usually have half board hotel buffets which gives me a chance to sample different food while the other half sticks to his British food choice. Will be off to Spain in a few days, first time since 2019 for some sun.
Thank you for visiting good friends of ours at the drunken sailor

THE PLOUGHMAN’S lunch is delicious Lee. 10/10❤
What a gorgeous day.
Ploughman’s was invented by a brewery to boost food sales. Looked really good that did Lee.
You eat what you want Lee. We all like different foods and no what our tolerances are. 😋
That looks a top notch ploughman’s lunch 10/10 all day long
Lee you were spot on with your comments on the Drunken Sailor, we've been twice this week, good food, fantastic atmosphere, recommend a visit anytime. Oh, and they say you're killing them, they've never been as busy since your review. Keep up the good work.
Lol. 😂 tell em I said hi. Love that place. Such a lovely couple.
That’s my sort of lunch. Love it.👍😋😛
I went there. a few days ago. because of your recommendation and had a chilli. Great food, great service, great price x
10 for me love ploughmans lunch anytime
now that's my kind of meal! love a good ploughman's, nice pint wash it down
Hi Lee. That looked so tasty. You’re looking well! 🥰☀️🥰xxx
Very healthy and clean 😊
Brilliant m8 just keep it coming
I once ate a Ploughman's Lunch. He wasn't very happy!
The spread you got for the ploughmans looks very impressive - a great variety! A true delight for the tastebuds.
However 2 things... (as ever LOL) ... hot pork pie! and square ham, which we know is processed beyond belief. But the rest of the plate looks a delight. Now to me, the best bit of a pork pie is the jelly... and it has to be with Colemans mustard, ideally made from the powder 'cos it hotter! Ham should be identifiable as a cut of meat... not something made from pink slime. But if you enjoy it, fairy snuff :)
I sympathise with people who want to serve and be served *real* ham, as it is very expensive to source quality cuts, even in Spain and Portugal, who specialise in it! Here in Portugal, for example, it is nearly always square ham that is served up, but undertandable when you see the price of cured natural ham in the shops. A shame and a curse of the modern food industries.
Scoring, I would have gone a 9 for the sheer variety of cheese and fresh fruit on the plate. But not a 10. I wonder what your going to score if you ever get a real 10 ploughmans Lee. LOL.
The venue looks great and you have experienced consistency with good food at good value, so I understand your love for the place. At the end of the day, who could ask more?
Nicely put. ❤️👍🏼
Wow that looks tasty!! My sis and I are currently making plans to go to Benalmadena next May any recommendations as where to stay please ? Keep up the fantastic vids 😉 onwards 😊
Pierce the Ploughman's Crede (c. 1394) mentions the traditional ploughman's meal of bread, cheese, and beer. Bread and cheese formed the basis of the diet of English rural labourers for centuries: skimmed-milk cheese, supplemented with a little lard and butter, was their main source of fats and protein.[4] In the absence of access to expensive seasonings, onions were the "favoured condiment",[5] as well as providing a valuable source of vitamin C.[6]
The reliance on cheese rather than meat protein was especially strong in the south of the country.[7] As late as the 1870s, farmworkers in Devon were said to eat "bread and hard cheese at 2d. a pound, with cider very washy and sour" for their midday meal.[8] While this diet was associated with rural poverty, it also gained associations with more idealised images of rural life.
Hi Macmaster just been in for the Ploughman's absolutely mighty. Thanks for the advice.
Hey!!! Love it there!!!!! Have a fantastic time. If you go again, say hi from me. :0)
love a ploughman's lunch especially during summer
That ploughman’s lunch was looking good
That ploughman’s looks sensational ❤
Lived in Thailand for 11yrs. My missus only eats Thai food and maybe a slice of pizza. My daughter loves european food. I have to eat UK food at least three times a week even after 11yrs. Its what you like mate.
Ploughman's can be dated as far back as 1390, cheese bread and beer, and has been developed since then, English, but there will undoubtedly continental variants
hi m8 lovin your vids in spain as for the ploughmans not enough meat for me and hot prk pie defo no no jellys tastiest bit looking forward to next vid your a star lee ,alan from scotland
You are so right! You do you. Eat what you want. I also miss my mam and dad and my little sisetr every day. h0owever, as someone who lived in Spain for over 3 years, there is some very good food.
Aww bless Lee. I miss my mum and dad as well.
Warm Pork pies, call the cops !! On the strength of that Ploughmans I'm booking a flight.
Lee that looks like the best ploughman's of all time 😊
I live in North Wales, spicy food upsets my stomach so I would be going for British food, I hate pickle and the salad stuff in mayonaise, apart from that it looked a great ploughmans Lunch! |Cold meat pie for me , always!
Yummy , we’re doing that for Xmas day in Perth wa!
Don't apologise for liking what you like. ❤
I’m on a golf trip at the end of January 2024 so will look to give this place a try with my golf buddies and of course try the ploughman’s! 😊
Looked awesome (glad you tried it (after the steak pie) 👍🎸
Is there a tomato shortage in Spain
That is a brilliant short-back-and-sides haircut, sir!
Dont let trolls and keyboard warriors in the comments eat what you want Lee its your damn channel!!
You get to a certain age and you know what you like and dislike, the main thing is that you enjoy it. Weather looks fab 😊
Yes I would prefer pork pie cold too score for me 10+ The weather looks Brilliant your so lucky to be there it’s getting cold here now.
Omg! never had a ploughman’s lunch but that looked 10/10 🤤 and never feel the need to apologise for what you like! Better that than wasting money and food you don’t like.
What a lovely looking plate of food. No more to be said.
Lee that ploughmans looked delicious but cold pork pie every time ❤X
Strawberries 🍓 on a ploughmans seems odd but looked nice apart from that 😊
English Tapas, 😂 Supermarket food on a plate. Nothing homemade
That looked amazing Lee. Eat what you enjoy. X
Looks good. Good price also.. Think me and the wife would share it. 8/10 Nice vid.
Lee looks lovely and fresh, but warm pork pie a no no and the ham even though it processed still make it look delicious 👍🏴
nice ploughmans 7.5 for me
mick and janice will be fuming
That looks the nuts really really appetising
Told ya to try Ploughmans in the last one when you did The Drunken Sailor AND YOU DID :) POrk pie in mine shaz's opinion should be cold (I love the jelly whereas shaz picks it out and leaves it for me). Controversial tho I had a Scotch warm and it was awesome. Bought a Scotch egg from asda (cumberland sausage, cut it in half and put cheese between the egg and sausage meat). Forget garlic breads that is the future. Foodie snobs beware, I will tempt your taste buds with Noodles and Pukka Pasties (which are also bang on, as are pot noodle sarnies :P)
Another good video..I agree about food when abroad and the only foreign trip I enjoyed the food like in the UK was America..Pork pies only cold for me.
That looked lush 😊 didn't look like a pork pie more like a meat pie... Difference 🐽.. 🐄 😂
Glad to see the watch on the other arm now for a while. That was huge I would have had to ask for a doggy bag. I cant imagine what a hot pork pie is like. That egg looked a bit strange huge amount of white & quite a tiny yolk.
Why not stuff the food in with your fingers? Thats what I do, ram it in, sod the utensils. My Missus just said “Jesus look at lee shovelling that food down his throat”😮…..”He’s like a tramp on a kebab” 😂
As far as I remember the ploughman’s was an invention of the cheese marketing board to increase sales and imagined a ploughman would eat bread and cheese pubs caught on offering it in the days when a packet of nuts and crisps was all they did all the rest is embellishments and later additions
Now that was a proper ploughmans lunch looked really tasty a 10 from me.
That is a nice spread plenty of choice food
looked good Lee, it's a 9/10 from me.
Mac just read somewhere that a pub changed it from ploughman’s launch to ploughperson lunch what is going on mate lol 😂
@@gregeviganit was on Google have a look mate
Food looked great, although coleslaw is of Dutch origin and a bit out of place . The contents gave us an idea to do a Fisherman’s Lunch equivalent with Med type ingredients of olives , fish , chorizo , mojo , hams , aioli, veg and bread . To each their own. You’ve certainly made us think seriously about visiting that area. Another great vlog. Thank you.
The question is were you drunk in the drunken sailor? With regards to what you eat I agree eat what ever you enjoy, love the vlogs
However, the term 'Ploughman's Lunch' is believed to have originated in the 1950s, as part of a marketing campaign to encourage the British public to eat more cheese after years of wartime rations (a campaign I would have wholeheartedly supported).
