it's so odd that you uploaded this today. I just had a similar event occur to me, earlier today, when I landed my Maddog MD-88 at PABE. It was RY 01L RNAV (not ILS) and I thought I was too low. Added thrust and climbed a bit, and sure enough, passed the touchdown point by several hundred feet. After seeing this video, I'm convinced now that I experienced your Optical Illusion scenario, and that I was never actually in danger of being short of the runway. Have to say though, I really thought it was real until I flew past the start of the runway, and basically had to dive to hit any part of the runway.
Thanks for the video. Very interesting. I watched a video recently about a 72-year-old GA pilot (N534Z) crashed into trees before the runway suspected due to the black hole effect. He was with his wife and it was dark with bad weather. Sad.
I've been a victim of "what the f are those trees doing in the runway come on msfs" *proceeds to overshoot the landing area because there were tall pine trees in front of the rwy threshold*
I remember as an instructor taking student to different airports to show them this. Old memories....excellent. thank you.
For me displaced threshold can also sometimes make it difficult to judge right angle if PAPI lights are not clearly visible.
Well I'm pleased you're my copilot ! 😊

Can the QFE be of any help here? I know basically nobody uses it since its no common to get it
Width is just as important as length 😜😂

First I didn't read "We're too low" but "We're low on tea"! Thank god!
