This whole procedure is a myth that will result in no fps gain unless you’re badly VRAM constrained. AI traffic is super heavy on the CPU the way it is implemented in MSFS, but textures are loaded into the GPU memory. The only thing that really helps is reducing the maximum amount of traffic.
Exactly. There are already some tutorials about this topic. But as long as your system is CPU limited, reducing the texture quality will not increase your fps. However reducing the texture quality will reduce the size of your traffic folder and this will reduce the loading time of your MSFS.
@nakaron5465 very true. I have a 7950X3D and RTX4090 and I upped the rendering resolution and no fps change. I lowered texture synthesis and nothing.ian anisotropic filtering is also negligible. People need to know the sim will always be cpu limited because the current game engine doesn't do multi threading. I'm hoping the new one scales better over a 16 core cpu
Agree. The biggest hit on FPS when dealing with traffic, is the traffic injector itself. FSLTL has since its inception suffered from some serious memory leaks with its injector. Since moving over to BATC, have really not had issues with FPS degrading over time. I think the biggest difference is having the traffic injector in the cloud. Its not the planes that is causing the FPS loss. All of these supposed fixes to increase FPS are just plain snake oil. These types of tweaks have been recommended since FS 98.....
I literally just tried it out with the 1024 option from 4092. No AI traffic at EGLL with a 4080 and i5-13600K gets me on average 48FPS, low of 46 and a high of 52 depending on where I pan the camera in external view. With BeyondATC or the FSLTL injector, I used to get 34 FPS before AI began to move and 25FPS when the AI began to do it's thing. After the downgrade to 1024...not a damn difference. Should have scrolled down on this comment section before I even bothered.
I actually have been using this improvement for a couple of weeks now and I was wondering "why is Gavin not talking about this?" - and now here it is 😀 And guys, even if you don't get FPS improvement, you are saving more than 30GB of storage. This alone is an advantage for me personally. Thanks Gavin
I've gone straight to 1024. Usually got 46-52 depending on where the external camera is looking at EGLL (4080xi% 13 600k/High Settings). Will report back to you with my results post this downgrade. If the livery textures are too jarring, will try out your choice after. This may be the last fix to fix all stuttering and FPS killing issues at major hubs :D
Hello. I get this error wheb trying to run the CMD: "DIRECT3D TEXCONV INSTALLATION WAS NOT DETECTED. DIRECT3D TEXCONV IS REQUIRED BY THE TEXTURE OPTIMIZER."
Unfortunately I have tried both 1024 and 2048 resizing but with Beyond ATC it doesn't seem to work, only native resolutions, the whole process is done correctly but it doesn't work with BATC. Does anyone have a solution?
@Easyjetsimpilot so I use FSLTL compression and all my livery are 1k so my file size became 4gb in community folder, but when I run the game and in content manger were all addons are there it shows 40gb.
I'm trying to follow the tutorial on optimizing FSLTL, but when I run the command I keep getting this message DIRECT3D TEXCONV INSTALLATION WAS NOT DETECTED. DIRECT3D TEXCONV IS REQUIRED BY THE TEXTURE OPTIMIZER. I did everything correctly so not sure why I'm getting this.
60 ai aircrafts? So reducing to 2k delivers 120k free memory? That's nothing. Why should that improve fps? I tested 1k and 2k with fsltl and saw no influence on fps. Nothing.
I gave it a try, but when the process is finished, the flstl-traffic-base-OPTIMIZED folder is still 40 GB? I downscaled to 1024 but nothing happened...
To compress the textures or any other file on the hard drive you can also use the windows built-in tool. It shrinks my MSFS addon folder from 530GB to 300GB. The FSLTL base folder goes from 40.7 to 12.5gb, without any loss of texture quality.
@@MOMAZOSPATO You just right click the folder you want to compress, go into properties -> advanced properties, and tick the third box that says compress files to safe disc space.
I have followed your procedure to the letter, but get this error DIRECT3D TEXCONV WAS NOT DETECTED, I copied in the compressonator/bin/CLI as advised but no matter what i try still same message returns

I've noticed that I've gained fps massively with fsltl after the latest update. I'm running rtx 4080 so a very good gpu but not the best. Before the latest update I've had around 20-40 fps using ultra settings and fsltl in let's say inibuilds LAX or Heathrow with fenix a320. Today I flew from LAX and I was very surprised that my fps was around 60-70 fps. And that's with inibuilds LAX and fenix a320 which are known to be quite performance hitters. I also tested it with Aerosoft FRA and inibuilds Heathrow. I actually have no clue how has this happened cuz I haven't changed any settings nor have I done this quality compression you showed. Nonetheless I'm very happy lol. Also my fsltl settings are quite high. I don't even use any other software that is supposed to help to gain fps. And yes, I've checked that my settings are still the same and haven't changed.
Hey friend, since the last update of the fenix, i can't fil a flightplan in the mcdu, all the time i got "INVALID F-PLN UPLINK", how to fix that please !?
I got the same message. But i did discover that was because I just moved the file with my mouse. Once I used cut and then paste, it worked. So don’t move the file with your mouse.
You are right! Using CTRL + X and then CTRL + V solved the issue. The problem now is that, after the process, the texture folder size is still 40 GB instead of 4GB. And I downscaled to 1024....
I‘m wondering; does beyond atc recognize fsltl and fstraffic models at the same time resulting in less white paint aircraft or is it choosing one or the other library?
thank you very interesting and useful. I have the fsltl in another internal PC driver (thus not directly in the communty folder) and I manage that by MS Linker. Can I use the procedure you showed?
Yeah , AIG has way way more liveries and didn`t kill FPS as FSLTL but has worse sound and visual (lights/strobe, smoke) effects. But anyway I switched from FSLTL to AIG

It saves space, but fps not so much on my system. 2048 is the lowest you should go to keep nice visuals in the ai models. This tool you can also use on scenery in your community folder. So some heavy fps airports with 4 or 8k textures can profit if you reduce it to 2k or 1k. With fsltl latest models I noticed better fps already without reducing the textures. Using this with the latest fshud (v2) works really well. And I must say fshud v2 at the moment I prefer above beyondatc with traffic injection.
