I agree when the lady says you are either a Weimaraner person or you are not. We are obsessed with ours but some people don't like how "in your face" he is. He just wants you to love him and he wants to be with you 24/7 which is why I love Weims so much.
Just lost our 17 year old Weimaraner... He’d been diagnosed with a slow growing cancer and our vet honestly thought Blue would have died of old age before the cancer returned. He unexpectedly underwent *GENUINE* service dog training when he was 7 years old and acted like he’d always done the job since puppy hood. He was the dog of my heart and lifetime.😘
I had one growing up. Her name was spirit she lived to 14 years old and I’ll never have another breed. The smartest and the most affectionate dog ever. I’ll always miss spirit and running around with her my whole childhood. Please know this though, don’t get one of these dogs if you can’t get it’s energy out on a daily basis! But outside of that so amazing.
Why do people have to mention that ”its not A dog that u put to the backyard and do nothing with” ...There is no dog in the world that is good for that thing
they just mean they aren't kidding that these dogs need exercise. My parents have a puggle and a Labrador and they take them for walks and they are exhausted. I take my weim for a walk and he's like okay nice warm up now what
I have 2 Weimaraners, 4 months, i hope they live that long or even longer, ive had, Rottweilers, chihuahua, pug, maltese, boxer, labrador growing up, these are my style of dogs they are so beautiful and have outsmarted me since they were young lol
I adore Weimaraners! I think they are some of the most beautiful creatures on the planet. They are too high-energy for me, but I love to watch them go. Thank you for this excellent video about them.

Finding a good Weim is NOT easy. It's great to see so many nice ones in this video! Typically, they go to "flavor-of-the-month" or "I love how they look" homes where-by they never get to do what they were designed and cultivated to do, for centuries! Kudos to your club and those attendees that give their Weims a sense of purpose, pride, fitness and satisfaction. Oh....and it looks like fun for the owners to. ;)
I have a weimer black lab mix... huge dog. Hes definitely a bird stalker/killer. Ive seen him knock them out of flight and catch them. Also very good with kids and just wants all the attention... and food. Very intelligent, intuitive and basically the best dog ever.
I have a half breed Weimaraner chocolate lab mix and he is a beautiful dog. Built like a Weimaraner with the color of a chocolate lab. Has many traits of the Weimaraner breed. Very smart and eager to please. Very good bird dog who doesn't wander too far. Loves attention and people and other dogs.
OH MY GOD DUDE YOU FINALLY MADE IT! I JUST SAW THIS ON MY FEED AND SAID “FUARRRRRK” out loud! Thank you dude I’ve been requesting this for ages on your live feed
We had 2weims ( not together - one at a time) and they REQUIRE both mental stimulation and a lot of exercise. Even though we both had jobs outside the home, in the evenings - winter & summer - we took them where they could run free and chase the wildlife every day. Our one dog had an absolute hated for squirrels and if she saw one she'd go crazy. She was able to open the doors and would often run out into the yard if she saw a squirrel in the bird feeder. Thus , if we were not home we had to be absolutely certain the doors were all locked, esp. the sliding door to the backyard. They are extremely intelligent and easy to train.
Great video about the breed. I have a Weimaraner as my explosives detection partner, he's simply amazing! The ONLY thing I wish the AKC hadn't done to this breed was docking their tails. My Weim was purchased by the Federal Gov't straight from a top breeder in Germany and they don't dock the tails. It's not needed and to tell you the truth, I wouldn't want him any other way. I absolutely LOVE his "happy meter"! The breed standards in Europe are far superior to our AKC standards and I really wish America would get on board and make our standards respectable.
I have to disagree. Tail docking was never initiated for "looks" or "aesthetics". It has been done for centuries to many HUNTING breeds, and for good reason. I own a setter and a pointer (long tails). I have come out of the grouse woods on occasion with my dog's exuberantly happy tail throwing blood! They LIVE/LOVE to hunt more than anything else, but that tail takes a beating now and again. Not the case with the docked tails. I wouldn't own anything but a setter or pointer but when I had Brittanys, I never had this issue. Of course, those against hunting or that don't hunt their BIRD dogs are beyond reason.
@@shug2795 Although I do understand your reasoning, the AKC does not have docking as a standard because of hunters like yourself. The vast majority of hunting dog owners never use their dog for hunting, it's simply the truth. In my case, my bird dog hunted bombs....not birds.... and 90% of all of his training was indoors or in a parking lot searching vehicles. So yeah, I LOVE his tail and thank God he came from Europe (you know, the place the breed was made) with a tail....which is of course the standard over there and they actually hunt with their dogs with tails intact. If I hunted like you did, I would 100% agree with docking after I saw just one pup come out of the bush bleeding!

I liked the multiple interviews at the major trial. I like that there were different perspectives from different people in one event. Only thing which we see in other videos from single breeders is the info on the dogs in the videos. Would have been nice to get the stats on the individual dogs, ages, weight, height, titles. That's what I was waiting for. But otherwise nice to see a new type of video. This is how new people would meet a breed and breeders.
I love making videos with my Weims. This video is AWESOME!! My boy Berkeley is one of Holly's McKnight's BOYS!!! I didn't get to meet Holly when we picked him up, but I did get to meet John. Super people!!! Well done! Your cinematography is outstanding. I Amy just be a little byes cause I love watching Weimaraners. I'm defiantly going to check out your other vids for sure. Is there really a breed that can just be left out in the yard? Or that won't have behavioral problems if they dont get sufficient mental and physical exercise? Even flock guardians do better when they're well socialized/integrated with their human family. Sad to see any family dog left out in the yard alone all day. Could you please do a video on supplements for highly active or working dogs. Like what do different people use as preventatives or treatments for arthritis.
Livestock guardian dogs are a lot more independent and prefer to spend some time by themselves roaming outside, but of course they also want to spend some time with people too. Weimaraners are not happy unless they spend ALL their time with their people...you cannot go to the bathroom to pee without them coming with you lol
Jane Dobiesix the bathroom thing can also be true of any breed. Just depends on how the dog is raised. I have huskies, which are a very independent breed. They follow me to the bathroom. All dogs will be more well-rounded if raised as part of a human family.
Daria Rylkova Definitely, all dogs will benefit from human contact, but different breeds have varying requirements for how much is enough. A Great Pyrenees will be totally happy to roam by himself during the day, provided you have enough acreage and livestock for him to protect. That doesn't mean you can totally ignore them, but they need far less human contact since they're relatively independent. Whereas "velcro" dogs will become neurotic if they are consistently left alone all day. Weimaraners are extreme velcro dogs and their human social needs are far greater than just about any other breed. Viszlas are the same, and Great Danes are close but still have some independence. Weimaraners/Viszlas have zero independence and as working dogs are happier not just being by your side but having a job to do.
I knew someone who had a Labrador who just loved hanging out outside all day. They'd try to bring him in but he just wanted to spend his days outside. He slept inside and was a pet. But. I guess it does happen.
I'm Getting a Weimaraner pitbull mix pup to be my next service dog. It was an accidental litter but the puppies are so intelligent already. They have a great work ethic. They need quite a bit of exercise. Overall great dogs. Thinking of also getting an actual Weimaraner....
This is the mix I have!!! very very affectionate and intelligent while still having that silly puppy personality. She's my emotional support animal; and has been doing so well.
Layla S around 60/70 pounds and I'd say up to my knee. Her mother (the pit) was around that height too. shes perfect size in my opinon. I have another pit that's bigger than her.
i absolutely dislike showpeople, a dog's true nature is it's ability and intelligence not it's looks, disqualifying a dog with a different pigmentation than what is considered "breed standard" is just ridiculous
I dislike most show breeders but in some of the rarer breeds a lot more people are breeding for show and working ability which is fine by me as long as they always put working ability first
Docking the tail is NOT cosmetic. My Weimaraner has her tail and she has broken it 3 times. They dock them so they don't snap them while in heavy brush. I wish they would have done it to mine but they didn't.
Did she say "extra eyelashes" at four minutes and 16 seconds in? That is interesting, but would that really be a problem/concern to make sure a dog does not have that? Also, at six minutes and 19 seconds, it was said that the colors blue and black are disqualifications to the American Weimaraners. Does this mean that thorough-bred/fully-red, standard Weimaraners can be blue or black in other places? If so, I feel it is odd to try to judge based on a specific color, even when there are other colors that are known and accepted in the breed. That sounds more like a show-ring standard which does little, or nothing, to judge the actual quality or legitimacy of a dog.
Anmol S Well, dogs are able to rub their eyes. They may not be able to specifically pluck something that has fallen into or onto their eyes, but they are able to address it and movie it out by rubbing. Also, eyes are fascinating parts of the body that have self-cleaning and lubricating methods.
I believe distichiasis is the name of extra eyelashes which don't grow on the normal eyelash hairline and can cause problems long term and could go undetected. There are some breeders of blue (and they didn't mention longhair) Weimaraners in Europe that can trial for hunting but not conformation. Black is a dominant color, so anyone attempting to pass off a black "Weimaraner" as pure would have a crossbreed mix. Breed standard has nothing to do with breeders. People believe that non-show dogs are exempt from following breed standard and that's not true.
Are you sure about that with the black? Loads of breeds have colors that have been carried in lines from far back in their history and just pop up from time to time. Also there are dominant and non-dominant forms of black genetically. However not sure how it works when up against genes for the grey. THere are legitimate black and tan labradors for example that are not crosses.
To open the fridge and bring you beer. I was able to teach mine to open the fridge, but he would eat the food instead. I'm still waiting on my beer 7 years later
If you want to keep dog as a family dog weimaraner any day. It's a dog which is more intelligent than most of the smartest breeds out there and cannot be left alone. If you want a field dog pointers are a bit better.
I have two weimaraners & If you ever plan on having one, and you plan on going out for fee minutes or hours, and it’s not well trained, doggy proof wherever you leave them and give them all kinds of toys, cause their curiosity will cause them to do bad things lol
They are with UKC but not AKC however they used to be. The blues were beating the grays in the show ring and the gray owners had the money so they basically paid the AKC to ban them. You can have AKC registered blues but you can't show them. Blues can compete in all other events as far as I know and definitely can do field trials just no show ring.
We had one that was a dangerously amazing gaud dog. That was not the intention but, what he became. He was an alpha as well. We spent a lot of money in the beginning for him in a well know(to the area) obedience school that was spacifc to shepherds. They said he was the smartest dog they've ever seen and would never try to train another. Very dangerously protective of the family. He was extremely smart and stubborn. Anyways yes an amazing guard dog but required a very high level of caution when anyone outside family was around.
The people in this video are not all breeders. But the best way to find a good dog is to locate your local Weimaraner club. They will know the most reputable breeders in your state or country.
As far as I know, blue or black weimaraner are not included in the standard for breeding. (There might be exceptions) Also many blue or black weimaraner come from illegal breeding. (Again there might be exceptions) It just saddens me that there are so many people who buy them simply for their coat. I find the coat rather boring-ish? Maybe it's because I grew up with weimaraner. We got our Gustav for hunting and after his death, we took in a female long hair weimaraner, we intend to train for mantrailing. They are definitely not the kind of dog you will have an easy ride with. Especially if you are inexperienced. Personality-wise these dogs are a perfect match for our family.
That is the case in all countries other than the US. In the US, they are a disqualifying fault in the standard but are registerable. They can participate in all performance events.
Dogumentary TV I personally prefer the one breed / one breeder concept. Because it‘s your genuine style. But it‘s great to try out new stuff. The breeder couple right at the beginning definitely know their breed!
The A and O with Weimaraner is discipline. They have to learn strict discipline at the first day - people who can´t teach this discipline should not bye a Weimaraner, also not people who look for a coach potatoe dog. This are hunting dogs and they need hunting or at least similar things to kept busy.
I also don't understand why she said the world is split between Weimaraner people and non Weimaraner people. I have a beautiful Ridgeback male and would love to pair him up with a male Weimaraner because they are both smart energetic breeds that love to run. I think it would be fun to have them both in the house. I also love labs, pointers and Dutch Shepherds. So where do I fall in on her spectrum? This is what happens when you breed for 40 years and you start believing in your own mind that you can only have and accept on type of dog. lol
Does anybody know why weimaraners are not used for protection work? They are fiercely protective but I never see them being used in that capacity. These dogs not only point and retrieve, they literally hunt down animals. I have a Weimarane that is the most Protective and courageous dog that I have ever owned and it is not unique this is a breed characteristic. Do they get too aggressive and that is why they are not used? The Doberman (The breed created for purpose to protect humans) was CREATED with Weimaraners. The doberman intelligence and protection is exactly like Weims, & Weims are bigger & have SUPERIOR athleticism.
When people say that weimaraners can be used in both big game hunt and bird hunt, what do they mean? A. The same dog (specific dog specimen I mean) can be used in BOTH big game AND bird hunt. Same dog specimen, One day hunting boars (as a bay dog ?) and next day hunting birds (bay dog?) B. That the breed in general can be trained to EITHER big game OR bird hunt.
Just found this documentary after rescuing a weimaraner-lab mix. Please do not dock your weimaraner tails like these people do, it is purely for human cosmetic purposes and has zero benefits for the dog. If you actually care about these beautiful animals please do not dock tails unless for specific medical reasons which are honestly rare.
VB31 To be fair, if you are hunting with your dog it can be beneficial as a long tail can get trapped or injured. If you have ever been in the unfortunate position of dealing with an injured tail, you’ll known that those things do not mend easily. For pets and show however, I have to agree with you. Here in Australia the practice of ‘docking’ a tail on a weimaraner is banned and I believe the same now in the UK. My weim had a full whip-like tail that could clear the coffee table with one happy wag. 😆
This past February our pure breed Weimaraner just passed away. We pet rescued a Blue Weimaraner just recently. The only difference between the so called pure breed and the Blue are his blue eye's and his coat has some blue in it. There is nothing else different. I even looked up the difference and their color is the only difference. I have come to the conclusion that your pure breed industry is "Racist" to Blue Weimaraners. Very sad!
The Weimaraners I know are unstable. My uncles one is so unpredictable it’s attacked people he knows and hates dogs. Really weird because he was brought up in an amazing environment. Socialised, exercised well, mentally stimulated.
DWC my in-laws got theirs at 6 months and he’s been socialized and has two older sisters (different breeds) but he does not like other dogs/people. He’s aggressive towards people he doesn’t know, especially in his territory. I learned it was because my In-laws let him run the house... so I did some training with him and he knows I’m alpha and behaves around me.
My first was unpredictable around other animals. Would never hurt a child though. He got in a fight with 3 pitts killed one I shot one and the other ran away. He was 120 pounds larger for the breed but a very sweet soul. The one I have now is also animal aggressive. They hunt other animals it's in there blood. But would never hurt a child, but very weary of strangers.
so only brown gray?? the off tone of grey sounds like a really shitty reason to not accept a dog; blue grey is personally much more elegant and beautiful.
Actually you're wrong. They used to cut the tails to prevent wounds that might get infected and have to cut it anyways, with the risk of infection and deseace. When you're hunting on rough ground you might encounter heavy brush and the dog might snap it. There's a use. I'm all against cutting tails just for show, but you need to inform yourself before making statements like this. p.s: I have a weimaraner, I do go hunting with him and I haven't cut off his tail. I specifically asked the breeders not to, but I'm always in fear that something might hurt his tails while out on the field.

Docking the tail is NOT cosmetic. My Weimaraner has her tail and she has broken it 3 times. They dock them so they don't snap them while in heavy brush. I wish they would have done it to mine but they didn't.
good point they should allow any ol stray street dog in. smh
3:42... someone was excited🤣
Delightful Addition dogs cant get eyelashes out of their eyes if they fall in.
Anmol S Well, dogs are able to rub their eyes. They may not be able to specifically pluck something that has fallen into or onto their eyes, but they are able to address it and movie it out by rubbing. Also, eyes are fascinating parts of the body that have self-cleaning and lubricating methods.
Eyelashes can turn inwards into the eye and cause irritation and potentially damage. Also thoroughbred is a breed of horse, it doesn't mean purebred.
Hi, when is the next event in Mojave for 2020?
you are the best zeke
thanks
i have a seven month old weimaraner what should i start teaching him
To open the fridge and bring you beer. I was able to teach mine to open the fridge, but he would eat the food instead. I'm still waiting on my beer 7 years later
Which one is better, short hair pointer or weimaraner???
If you want to keep dog as a family dog weimaraner any day. It's a dog which is more intelligent than most of the smartest breeds out there and cannot be left alone. If you want a field dog pointers are a bit better.
What colour coats are these Weimaraners?
Grey
thanks
I need one of those were can you get them at
I have two weimaraners & If you ever plan on having one, and you plan on going out for fee minutes or hours, and it’s not well trained, doggy proof wherever you leave them and give them all kinds of toys, cause their curiosity will cause them to do bad things lol
why is the blue and black not classified?
They are with UKC but not AKC however they used to be. The blues were beating the grays in the show ring and the gray owners had the money so they basically paid the AKC to ban them. You can have AKC registered blues but you can't show them. Blues can compete in all other events as far as I know and definitely can do field trials just no show ring.
They use to be considered imperfections
What is field? They never said anything about them as guard dogs
@@lukegardiner900 thanks for your time great amswer
Field trials are training and/or proof of hunting abilities.
what blood line? Looking for speed llike that. Who can I contact?
How come people cut there tail ? I often wonder who and why did my dog have a cut tail. these dogs are awsome
Tales get docked to prevent injuries that can later in life be extremely damaging, painful, parilyzing or even cause death.
Love your videos should do one on a Working Bandog would be great
Due the St Bernard! There are some good breeders in so cal
Great video, could you please do living with vizslas?
I’m currently at a Field Test in California Citty, made a connection to do a Living WithVizsla.
Dogumentary TV yess thanks! Your videos are awesome by the way!!
My fav breed❤
I'd love to see Australian Cattle Dogs!
HERDING DOGS: BORDER COLLIE VS. AUSTRALIAN CATTLE DOGruclips.net/video/XhpMtDrgFII/видео.html
How to contact with their kennel?
The people in this video are not all breeders. But the best way to find a good dog is to locate your local Weimaraner club. They will know the most reputable breeders in your state or country.
I used to have a weimarinar but she died a few months ago rip
Please do a polish lowland sheep dog
Brennon Schwartz yes that would be amazing!
My dog is 50% Beagle, 25% Weimereaner, 25% Border Collie. Best dog ever
Sounds like an awesome mix
Blue weims FTW
that dog at 2:00 looks like it has lymphoma... thats what killed my first weimaraner just awful to see those lumps again
Pleaseee more videos of DOGO ARGENTINO Pleasee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another Great video - although you bent your style rules
Thanks. I’m not sure how I feel about it. But wanted to try something new.
Do the chow chow
I also don't understand why she said the world is split between Weimaraner people and non Weimaraner people. I have a beautiful Ridgeback male and would love to pair him up with a male Weimaraner because they are both smart energetic breeds that love to run. I think it would be fun to have them both in the house. I also love labs, pointers and Dutch Shepherds. So where do I fall in on her spectrum? This is what happens when you breed for 40 years and you start believing in your own mind that you can only have and accept on type of dog. lol
So you’ve never had a Weim then…😂
Great video!
I have a weimaraner, his name is shadow and for some reason he has no prey drive.
A Generic Highschooler the exact same as mine!
The field dog is way superior to any show dog.
Shh. It’s a secret that they are great protectors! Better for the unsuspecting home invaders. 🤫
Can you do one on papillons
A video about Pomeranians please
I have to whip around a huge field on an electric scooter to tire mine out. He chases me at 15mph
Wow ...
When people say that weimaraners can be used in both big game hunt and bird hunt, what do they mean?
A. The same dog (specific dog specimen I mean) can be used in BOTH big game AND bird hunt. Same dog specimen, One day hunting boars (as a bay dog ?) and next day hunting birds (bay dog?)
B. That the breed in general can be trained to EITHER big game OR bird hunt.
Originally a big game dog now a versatile upland dog... Mostly
Can they go hog hunting whit a pack of other dogs
Yes
Just found this documentary after rescuing a weimaraner-lab mix. Please do not dock your weimaraner tails like these people do, it is purely for human cosmetic purposes and has zero benefits for the dog. If you actually care about these beautiful animals please do not dock tails unless for specific medical reasons which are honestly rare.
Why. Do. We. Ignore. Genetics. With. People. ......?
Because mutts beat pure breds every time
I can't take people serious who are cutting their pets tails. Poor world..
I’ve got one 😅
CBR Please 🙏🏻
This past February our pure breed Weimaraner just passed away. We pet rescued a Blue Weimaraner just recently. The only difference between the so called pure breed and the Blue are his blue eye's and his coat has some blue in it. There is nothing else different. I even looked up the difference and their color is the only difference. I have come to the conclusion that your pure breed industry is "Racist" to Blue Weimaraners. Very sad!
Paul Frank my Blue Weim female is a big sweetie! I don’t care if she’s not grey.
Probably show bloodline?
I wish you wouldn't dock their tales. No need mine was happy with his whole tale all his life
so only brown gray?? the off tone of grey sounds like a really shitty reason to not accept a dog; blue grey is personally much more elegant and beautiful.
They use to kill the blues as they were seen as an imperfection. I think they are better looking myself
And it's grey or blue no brown
Mine is good at doing nothing. She sleeps a lot
Couch potatoe. Some are.
Miss your voice tho
Weimaraner vs Vizsla
Weimaraner
I had thought getting one of those . I'm such a bulldog guy... Am Pit bull, Am Bulldog and so on
Stop cutting the tails!
It has no use to cut them, basicly you molest them.
It's a breed standard. I do agree but they are not a dog that requires the tail for balance.
@@xxXBRUJO13Xxx In the 1600 it was still custom to beat your wife, it was standard, we changed that.
Well I understand that not my decision though. Do shoot the messenger.
Sorry if I misspelled some words.
Nope. They are stubborn
Weird story but me and the boys actually shot a Weimar before while hunting quails, he survived. But he's horrifically disfigured now.
What the fuck do you think he was?
Sad
