Recently brought an Anatolian puppy to my sheep pasture. Got to see his sire and dam out with sheep as well as a 1 year old sibling. They all knew their jobs well, weren't happy to see a stranger but as I was with the owner they soon settled back into working mode. Very happy to have him around. With tight fences we haven't had any trouble, thinking now it's even less of a worry! Great dogs.

My pup's parents work a 200 acre ranch in the Smokies with 300 sheep and 200 cattle...her mother is the top guardian on the farm. But when my husband and our 5 little children got out, even though I'm certain mama knew we were there to take 1 of her babies, she even surprised her owner by how wonderful she was to us and the children. He tried to put her in a fence while we chose (and had to chase) a puppy but she effortlessly escaped the fence twice and came lovingly and politely back to see our children. She clearly was introducing herself. There was something exceptionally wise and kind about that dog, I will never forget her. I would have taken her if I could have but I got her daughter, the next best thing.

@michellesmithunroe2463 That means a lot to me! I knew I wasn't imagining it. Never had a dog look into my soul like that, she was the first ASD I ever met. Now that I have gotten to know my Daisy I see the same uncanny wisdom in her, deep like a person more than a dog. She just understands things. I'm not even a dog nut, I'm picky about what dogs I like, but there is something very special about this breed. It sneaks up on you.

    • @michellesmithunroe2463
      @michellesmithunroe2463 Год назад

@@angelmartin7310 unlike most "normal" dogs who have been manipulated to forget their instincts, LGDs seem to be born "wise old souls" already knowing how to do the things it takes months to teach others. I am inclined to say they understand English but that's not as logical since it's not their native language and they aren't very far removed from their home lands in terms of time. It's just more evidence of their deep connection with their shepherds. I'm grateful to the many before us for facilitating the creation of such magnificent partners and companions. 💗
Interestingly, our pups dam's name is Daisy. We continued the botanical theme, naming our girls Aster and Crista, short for the plant genus Asteraceae and Chamaecrista respectively. I am reasonably certain that they are fairly closely related to our first LGD which made the connection with their mom even more intriguing.

Man, my ASD isn't food motivated at all. She would rather scavenge her own food and only eagerly accepts raw meat. If she eats dog food it's only a little at a time, I resorted to meat finally in hopes of keeping her weight on as she grows.

We adopted our boy Odin from a shelter about 4 years ago. We were told he was an Anatolian Shepard, to which we said sarcastically, "surrrrrreeeee, pure blood, 11 month old Anatolian Shepard, surrendered to a shelter." Welp we ate our sarcastic words as he is absolutely 💯 Anatolian Shepard. After extensive research we decided to have his DNA tested to be sure. He is a big teddy bear and the absolute best dog we have ever had. Until we found him we knew nothing of the breed. Absolutely beautiful animals.

Best explanation I have heard so far. We got what we were told was a kangal from a rescue 5 years ago to go with our then 5yo shep/pit mix. When sharing pictures had half of the people saying yes, he's kangal, including some kangal breeders. Took awhile to get an explanation as to why he was an anatolian, but that didn't go beyond head and eye shape. Thanks again. Would love to send you a pic to get your opinion.

Incredibly smart and aware at all times and great protector, BUT he was the naughtiest, most headstrong puppy we've ever had. NOT a breed for anyone not willing to invest much time and consistency into training.

I have a kangal, and it's exactly right. Darker eyes, the mask ends at the snout, longer n thinner face, n they won't hit 185lbs. Mine is about 130lbs, n that is considered a good sized kangal. Now I've had an anatolian, which was a kars dog n kangal mixed- mean as hell, larger head, larger dog, and would guard anything. My kangal, nicest dog, and a big baby and wants attention all the damn time. Decent guardian, but not like my anatolian (basically just means its mixed w a kangal, or really any of the 4 turkish dogs mixed, malaklisi, kars, akbash and kangal).

I rescued an abused Anatolian, but got confused if she was Kangal instead because she is golden in color with black mask and finer boned frame. Now I know her golden eyes, head stop, and longer limbs make her Anatolian. An amazing dog whose ancient Turkish history tells the history of the people too :) I love that fate brought us together. I got an Anatolian Shepard, or at least that was what she was sold as, in the US state Oklahoma. The dog has been one of the nicer parts of the state...but the circumstances she was bred under were awful. These dogs are not dumb, and they are not insensitive to human contact. Because the breeder kept the isolated till she was three months old, she was severely emotionally and socially damaged. She's okay now, she is a great dog, but these working dogs are very misunderstood. They are smarter than most humans in the USA....

This is like comparing an American Staffordshire Bull Terrier to an American Pitbull Terrier. Genetically they're near identical, with slightly different physiques (Am Staffs are, bulkier/less agile with bigger heads). The Akbash, Kangal, & Anatolian Shepherd descend from a common ancestor. If you bred all 3, that would be the most elite working dog/guard dog.

First of if you it helps, if you want to be taken seriousely and if you dont want to talk serious about stuff you clearly dont av a clue, if you would know the name of the breeds you use give an example with, just a small sugestion.
Second, the american staffordshire TERRIER and American pitbulll terrier are not genetically near identical , they are genetically 100% identical, sp it is actually one and the same breed and a perfect example of what happens if you breed in different directions, ONE breed. One direction stayed on course which they were bred for and kept the name untouched after that split aka the pitbull terrier, while the other direction was was focused on the look of the breed and keeping them more unified fiscally which was totaly unimpotant to dogmen only gameness is important so we today have the amstaff which got mainly totaly ruined as a breed and the pit still the same as he was, the best at hes job. So one breed and such big difference and you so blatantly, if this and that thet you have blsh blah. You dont haved a clue about breeding but that doesnt stop you from wanting to make gtotaly wrong scomparisements about a breed you dont even know th right name and end that with a nice threesome

A number of years ago I lived on a horse farm with my horse and whippets. The owner adopted an Anatolian shepherd- she had the most beautiful movement I've ever seen in a dog. I'm used to assessing movement in animals and people so the AS was such a delight to watch. I understand that they also have a 15° angle to the lower hind leg that helps in navigating the challenging terrain of Turkey. I share your concern for non- Turkish breeders who will not breed the AS as they were meant to be.

Thank you for helping me understand the difference’s. We are looking to either get a Kangal ( hard to come by in US) or an Anatolian Shepherd to help on the Homestead once we acquire our livestock. I wasn’t sure of the difference understanding much better now.

Anatolian breeders introduced a lot of Kangal blood into their lines so some of their dogs may have the appearance of Kangals.

I very much appreciate the English! I've seen so many videos about the Turkish breeds and wish I could understand the audio. It's so important for us to know the breed standards and history to make sure we do our best to maintain them.
