  • This message covers the birth and impact of the Anabaptist movement (who were often called "Radical Reformers"), and the unique contributions they brought to church reform.
    From Felix Manz and Conrad Grebel, to Dirk Willems, to Menno Simons, the Anabaptists challenge our understanding of being citizens in God's Kingdom, and what it means to render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's.
    From the series "The Reformers." Preached by pastor Tim Amor at both Beatrice Mennonite Church and First Mennonite Church on November 5, 2017.

    Thank you for the review. Like so many well intended beginnings Anabaptists took matters like nonviolence, purity of faith, regulated dress and practice become legalistic extremes and not Biblical Christianity.

    I wrote a couple of essays on Mennonite history and Menno Simons while working on my Master's degree. I know I'm not the Master. I simply earned His degree.

    As a reformed baptist, I believe our differences are minor. I also acknowledge the awful persecution of the Anabaptists during the reformation. I would hope we could consider each other brothers and sisters in Christ.

      We will see when the cycle repeats. As it will.
      Protestants history goes back to Augustine's thought, who happened to change the historic faith given to the Saints. (Ante-Nicean Father and Galatians 1:8- Polycarp on)
      He happened to kill people for rebaptising too, among plenty other things.
      What do you think a modern day context of the Reformation looks like? Who is the 'Good guy' fighting against the 'bad guy'. Back then it was Protestant v Catholic..
      Now we got this left/right thing going on. Mixing Church and State again, out of some 'need'.. but will be antichrist.

      Murdering thousands of people is not a MINOR sin especially when it has been perpetrated by one group of professing believers against thousands of others. However, rather than assess the serious of that crime by our own judgment let us see what the Master already said about how serious it is:
      40 And the King answering, will say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did it to Me.’41 Then also He will say to those on the left, ‘Depart from Me, those being cursed, into the eternal fire, having been prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I hungered, and you gave to Me nothing to eat; and I thirsted, and You gave Me nothing to drink; 43 I was a stranger, and You did noytake Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’
      (Matthew 25:40-43)
      I see no evidence that Luther repented from what he did to the Anabaptists or to the Jewish people.
      9 If anyone claims to be in the light but hates his brother, he is still in the darkness. 10 Whoever loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no cause of stumbling in him. 11But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness. He does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
      (1 John 2:9:11)

      Calvin never repented from
      burning people at the stake either. He died in violation of the P of his own system.

    The Magisterial Reformers - Luther Zwingli Calvin participated in the persecution and massacre of the Anabaptists. Jesus said "Inasmuch as you have done it unto the least of these my brethren you have done it unto me. This showed that they did not understand the love of God

    What belongs to God?
    Psalms 24:1 Of David. A psalm. The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it
    So what belongs to Caesar?
    Thus the Jews marvelled at his answer.

      Luther was a violent racists who the Jews still remember as a persecutor. During their rallies the Nazis passed put Luther's "On the Jews and their lies" to stoke of hatred" Try reading it and tell yourself it doesnt matter

    When baptizing, didn't they also bring the baptize to a near death experience state before raising them out of the water?

    • @PastorAmor
      @PastorAmor  9 месяцев назад +1

      No, that is not something that was practiced… seems like the important aspects for them were that it was an individual choice/commitment by a consenting adult.
      It doesn’t seem that there was a specific preference for method either - at least not that was recorded (e.g. pouring, sprinkling, dunking/immersion, etc).

    Unfortunately, Calvinism: Only an arbitrary pre-chosen some will irresistibly turn to Christ, consequently all others have been pre-ordained to destruction by God's divine decree... isn't even close to God's saving grace available to any, all, everyone???

    • @NoName-oy2tk
      @NoName-oy2tk 8 месяцев назад

      I think one of the big issues for me about Calvinism is most of them are fruit inspectors. You must show evidence to them to show you are saved. All the while they are probably hypocrites doing things that God would not approve of either, but this is why they all want to say they were led of the Spirit. Like it says let every man be a liar, but let God be true. We are all hiding something we wouldn't want others to know, but that is why we all needs God's grace. Nobody is saying 'making light of sin', but I would say those who say such claims do not understand the grace of God. People who say to live out your lives like Christ are usually hypocrites. We should, but God knows us from the beginning and knew we would fail. That is why Jesus Christ did what he did, because we couldn't. He loved us while we were yet enemies of God.

      Not even close. That’s a caricature of a nuanced and biblical perspective. From your comment, I’m guessing you have not read Calvin on this topic. Please do so. Blessings 😊
