Caught Red-Handed - John 8:1-11
A mob of men bring a woman caught in the act of adultery to Jesus and wants to know if they can kill her for this sin - they had, after all, caught her red-handed.
But they soon find that Jesus has caught them red-handed in their own sin, while Jesus offers the woman safety, love, and a new hope.
Jesus does the same for us.

The Hard Way - John 6

Message on how a bunch of people found Jesus' teaching to be too hard, so they stopped following Him - as found in John chapter 6. What does this mean for us? What do we do when Jesus' teaching seems too hard? What can we do in a time where it seems like so many people who call themselves Christians really act nothing like Jesus? What can we do when we've been hurt by churches, Christians, past...

Message on Jesus feeding the 5,000 in John 6:1-15. Have you ever felt overwhelmed? ...like life was just throwing too much at you? ...like you're just running on empty, and what you have just isn't enough? What if all we have to give really isn't enough? But what the not-enough that we have to give is actually more than enough for Jesus to do something amazing in and through us?

"Pride and Prayerfulness" goes through the parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector, as found in Luke 18:9-14. This is a story about how we approach God. Will we be like the Pharisee and try to approach God by relying on our own good works, religiousity, and legalism? Or will we be like the Tax Collector and approach God with humility and authenticity - as sinners that rely on God's grace,...

    @22:20 More importantly than being accused of being an anabaptist would be being derided and called a Christian in the true Biblical sense. A true Christian bares Christs’ title and mission. Acts 11:26 the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. I Peter 4:16 If any man suffer let him suffer as a Christian.

    @12:40 Their (anabaptists) executions were the very flame that spread abroad the faith in 16th century Europe. 2 Cor 4:10-13. The principle being - sacrifice at the cost of death and through death - reproduction. So then death worketh in us but life in you. They took to heart (faith) the very thing the Lord called for - Jn 12:24-26 All who tried to spread or even defend their beliefs by force and the sword (as in Melchior Hoffman in Munster Germany 1534 or Ulrich Zwingli in Zurich 1531 ) - perished. 12:25. No descendants of either Hoffman or Zwingli today, for they, few they are if any, went back into Catholicism or factions of reformed Protestantism. But their non-resistant so called “enemies” exist today in the millions under the names of Mennonites, Hutterites, Amish, Brethren in Christ, German Baptists, etc. What took seed in 16th century Europe will spread again here in the Americas, Europe and worldwide, His Body the Church, persecuted by the “church” through the authority of the state.

    Doubt is only useful if you commit to finding the truth WHEREVER it leads. Otherwise, you're just pouring gas all over the car hoping some makes it into the tank.

    • @PastorAmor
      @PastorAmor 6 месяцев назад

      Yes! I think doubt is a starting point that can lead us to asking questions and open us up to change. Perhaps it leaves some room for curiosity and for the Holy Spirit to nudge us to move beyond what we believe we already know to be true so that we can be open to God's truth. Thank you for watching and for your comment! I like your metaphor by the way - though perhaps I'd see doubt as the light that goes on saying we're almost out of gas. We can keep driving and we can stay in the car after it runs out, but we aren't getting anywhere unless we pull over and do something about it. I think certainty blinds us to not just the gas light, but also the other warning lights.

    Years ago, my Sunday school class had a short sermon. It was a hot summer day and the A/C didn't work, so the pastor gave us a short lesson. "God is good. Sin is bad. Hell is hot." After everyone finished laughing, I heard him jokingly tell a few people," that was the best sermon I've ever taught." LOL.

    Very informative and helpful. I will revisit my readings of Anabaptists. Thank you. Core problem not addressed (which if you could direct me to specific books/authors from the 16th century I’d appreciate it) - Caesar can only exercise his rule with the sword. If all his subjects are professing Christians, then he cannot. It is the ruler’s responsibility to punish evil. How can he under an Anabaptist system? In short, Anabaptists can be sheep because others will be sheep dogs against the wolves. Second, the Wars of Religion were really about the development of the nation state with religion being a means to an end. It wouldn’t be until AFTER these wars that religious freedom would be secured.

    • @PastorAmor
      @PastorAmor 9 месяцев назад

      I'd say the quick answer is that Anabaptism doesn't allow for us to be in charge of earthly governments. We do not need sheepdogs, because we will also love our enemies or give our lives in the process. This is, of course, easier said than done - but I think the historical witness of these communities support such a commitment. Religions and nation states are often tied together. I'd go as far to say that many nations have their own national religion that supports their endeavors - sometimes this masquerades itself as "Christianity." This is an older video, and I spoke on the Anabaptists again in detail and what that means to me personally in the Spring of 2023, if you're interested: Let Me Tell You What I Really Think... The Accidental Anabaptist! ruclips.net/video/QSyXgu3rP0A/видео.html For more on nation states and religion and violence etc, you may find this message of interest from our series, "The Early Church: After Acts" Constantine and the Empire Church ruclips.net/video/g9XiM_a3Fv4/видео.html Blessings friend, ~Tim

    • @PastorAmor
      @PastorAmor 10 месяцев назад

      No, that is not something that was practiced… seems like the important aspects for them were that it was an individual choice/commitment by a consenting adult. It doesn’t seem that there was a specific preference for method either - at least not that was recorded (e.g. pouring, sprinkling, dunking/immersion, etc).

    The early Church in the book of Acts and church epistles, was led by a plurality of Elders in every city not just one man over an entire city. The practice of putting one man over an entire city is the beginning of error that led to the ultimate error of the Roman Catholic Church

    Unfortunately, Calvinism: Only an arbitrary pre-chosen some will irresistibly turn to Christ, consequently all others have been pre-ordained to destruction by God's divine decree... isn't even close to God's saving grace available to any, all, everyone???

    • @NoName-oy2tk
      @NoName-oy2tk 9 месяцев назад

      I think one of the big issues for me about Calvinism is most of them are fruit inspectors. You must show evidence to them to show you are saved. All the while they are probably hypocrites doing things that God would not approve of either, but this is why they all want to say they were led of the Spirit. Like it says let every man be a liar, but let God be true. We are all hiding something we wouldn't want others to know, but that is why we all needs God's grace. Nobody is saying 'making light of sin', but I would say those who say such claims do not understand the grace of God. People who say to live out your lives like Christ are usually hypocrites. We should, but God knows us from the beginning and knew we would fail. That is why Jesus Christ did what he did, because we couldn't. He loved us while we were yet enemies of God.

    • @jeffreybrannen9465
      @jeffreybrannen9465 9 месяцев назад

      Not even close. That’s a caricature of a nuanced and biblical perspective. From your comment, I’m guessing you have not read Calvin on this topic. Please do so. Blessings 😊

      Peace, friend. Thank you for listening and for your encouraging words! I named sexism, racism, and bigotry in my message because they are expressions of sin that we may encounter more frequently with opportunities to stand up and say something. Coming from where I served in the midwest of the USA, loving my neighbors also meant challenging the way they used language to demean others created in the image of God. I would suggest that it is the sinful aspects of sexism, racism, and bigotry that actually divides us far more than whatever use they see in media. My concern and time isn't spent on being discipled by what the media says, but through prayer, scriptures, and endeavoring to love as Jesus loves as a part of His community called the Church. Perhaps you could prayerfully consider how you could hear the those words and have them connected to how you might better love your neighbors in Jesus' name, instead of however you have experienced them as used in divisive ways by media. Blessings, ~Pastor Tim
