    Wow…you’re crazy…but what a hobby…..I loved the stratos as my dream car and when I was in school in banbury, my friend’s dad had a Beta….what a beauty…..stick to what you love….good luck

    Used to be able to pick up a Beta Scorpion here in the States for $1,500 - $2000. A lot were hauled off for scrap and not too many here any more and they weren't that bad and very cool looking.

    I'm already subscribed because of your Esprit project and I've just watched this because I'm looking at getting a Montecarlo; I agree, ideal stablemates. I'm not looking at doing an 037 project but I will be followowing yours. If you ever get to the Goodwood Festival of Speed you'll often see real ones there, handy for taking reference pics. The O37 was a fabulous car and a very worthy project. Good luck with this, I look forward to seeing the next installment. Cheers

    Looking forward to updates on your build Jon having just filmed a video I'm about to embark on the edit with featuring Keith Salmon and his 037 tribute here in Australia. He took me out for a run in the other day. What an exhilarating experience and inspiring to say the least. Total admiration for the likes of Keith and yourself and the work you do.

    Get out of my head 😅I've gathered three Scorpions (US version of the Monte) in the hopes to build a 037 tribute car. I'm eager to see how you get on with yours. You have a great resource in the UK for parts called The Monte Hospital.

      Cool but you dont need that much from the original car as far as I can tell, literally a handful of things. I think you need perhaps the grill and the hood vents at the front, and a few random bits. Luckily I have both doors with the handles which I have been struggling to source for anything less than "HOW MUCH ?!?!". Same for the indicator stalk.
      Gonna be a long journey so don't wait for me to finish - in depth plan coming next.

    I remember them rallying to, Your certainly taking on shedloads of work, but your previous work has been extremely thorough and to a very high standard.

      Thanks - I do the best I can which = time and money. My biggest issue right now is actually lack of space or there would be more projects!

    Jon, I'm so excited to watch this unfold, and am glad you're saving that poor car! I'm in the USA, and currently have Rally Legend Recreations making me a roller. I was initially afraid of doing the fab work myself, but I've since learned that you just have to go for it (feel free to check out the chassis swap project on my channel). And you're right, having two projects in parallel is by far the most efficient, you just have to justify it to the wife! Subscribed...

      Awesome, I had a long chat with the owner of RLR, Mick, who was really knowledgeable and helpful on the car. I'm still very much un-decided on whether to do the frames myself or to get them made. There are plusses and minuses for both that cancel each other out right now - luckily I don't need to make that decision right away.
      The Merc project looks ace - gotta get me one of those mechanical hacksaws!
      No wife here - just as Bob Marley said "No Woman, more cars" :D

    You may already have thought of this, but in terms of what made the rally car feel so good, Davide Cironi's interviews with some of the Fit group engineers from back in the day might be helpful (for example, Materazzi who worked on the Stratos programme). Also Maturo work on Deltas and 037, (with some input from Kankkunen) so I'm sure they have a lot of info on engineering, handling and setup.

    My Respect 🙏 hope you may. Resilience 🥂💪👍. Maybe there exists a Fans Group that may help.... that car had and amazing engine sound, design, performance, history.... can't tell from 037 and the S4 what I like most 🎉

    Just subscribed! Looking forward to watching you build this as I will be building one as well. Looks like you have the space frames drawn up in solid works?

    • @JonHimself
      @JonHimself  Год назад +1

      They are sketches right now - if you've seen my other work I plan on digitising a lot of the 037 mainly because it helps planning and design, its just the way I work.
      Whether I build the frames myself or not is still up for grabs. For me the issue is authenticity and accuracy, mounting the suspension just 3-4mm off target can result in adverse handling (those that know, know) and I can't have that since this car is all about the handling. It also has to fully integrate into the roll cage, there is a lot to study and mull over before welding.
      The other reason is to do engineering design study on the frame, stress analysis and evaluation.
      Lots to do!

    Don't think about the whole project and let it weigh you down... Just do one thing at a time, fix some little thing, then next weekend do the same, etc, repeat, etc. one day, it will be done !

  • @Nials-Projects
    @Nials-Projects Год назад +1

    You can buy almost every 037 part you need/want, engines are a push and eye wateringly expensive. Be aware that 037 floor pans aren’t the same as Monte floor pans.

    • @JonHimself
      @JonHimself  Год назад

      Still researching, you can buy it all but you can also get smashed on the mark ups (bearings).
      All the reference image I have seen the floors are the same, although some have been replaced due to damage, some are in kevlar, and some are very hard to tell if they are original cars or replicas they are so well made.
      I need to get eyes on an original one at some point to so more research. There's a lot to get right and wrong on these.

    • @Nials-Projects
      @Nials-Projects Год назад

      @@JonHimself The rear section of the floor is lowered 45mm to give extra head clearance although I only lowered the floor on mine by 25mm as that was enough.

      @@JonHimself Door handles are a pain to get hold of, I have made a 3d printable door handle that takes a Toyota Hilux key. You can pick up brand new indicator stalks for less than £40.
